Explain the Teleological Arguments for the Existence of...
Explain the Teleological arguments
The word teleological originates from the Greek telos meaning end or purpose. It infers the
existence of God from a particular aspect or character of the world, namely the presence of order,
regularity and purpose, and thus, is most commonly known as the design argument; it postulates the
idea of a designer for all that has been designed. As its name suggests, the teleological argument
attempts to seek the ultimate end or purpose.
Furthermore, the teleological argument holds the belief that this designer is the primary cause of
such existences, and is therefore what Aristotle would believe to be the uncaused cause , the
unmoved mover . It is never assumed that this initial cause could be God, yet ... Show more content

Thus, there must be a superior being, big enough to create a supreme artefact such as the universe.
Finally, David Hume likened the world to one great machine subdivided into an infinite number of
lesser machines . This theory however leads to the philosophy that similar effects require a similar
cause. Through the thrust of Hume s argument, he introduces us to two characters that express the
argument for design; whilst a third, namely Philo, criticises the argument. Swinburne identifies the
argument from design and the argument to design, also known as the anthropic argument. The
former form usually involves analogy, and the latter, argues that nature provides for the needs of
intelligent beings. This would however, require an extreme intelligence such as God. The heart of
this argument is that non intelligent material things produce beneficial order and therefore require
an intelligent being to elicit this. Three features of the world particularly impressed eighteenth
century thinkers; firstly the world as a whole, specifically the solar system as described by Newton
s gravitational theory. Secondly, the bodily forms of all animals and plants, in particular organs
such as the eye. Finally, the providential arrangement of things on earth amazed eighteenth century
philosophers. This leads us back to the design argument for the pocket watch, an aspect that also
impressed people at the time; it was a new invention and a clear sign of breakthrough in

Interactionism In College
Upon graduating high school, many students are faced with the decision to continue their education
at a higher learning institution or approach the work force: more often than not, especially in today
s society, these students are pushed to attend college, in the hopes of creating better job
opportunities and a wholesome lifestyle. When many of these students do approach college, it is
clear that the workload is much more strenuous and tedious than what they have previously dealt
with, often wondering how they will accomplish seemingly never ending schoolwork. A fraction of
these students are also involved in student athletics, adding practices and games to their already
hectic schedule: how do these students handle being a student for half... Show more content on

to why these football players from Notre Dame, among other athletes at different institutions

when caught, the repercussions are strong and deemed unacceptable by both the NCAA and the

Data Analysis And Interpretation Of The Data Essay
Data Analysis and Interpretation
The objective of this chapter is to describe the procedures used in the analysis of the data and
present the main findings. It also presents the different tests performed to help choose the
appropriate model for the study. The chapter concludes by providing thorough statistical
interpretation of the findings.
The research data was analyzed using a statistical software called STATA. Before running the
data for the regression analysis, panel unit root test was performed to see if data is stationary over
time so that it can be used in estimating the variables in question. The value of the variables in the
model throughout the research period is not constant; that means, there are some periods where
there are spikes. These periods of ups and downs in value of economic variables are called shock in
economic jargon. The notion behind testing for stationarity is to identify whether the effect of such
shocks is permanent or transitory. If the effect of such shocks is temporary, the subsequent values
of the variables will return to their long term equilibrium suggesting that the data is stable even
with the presence of shocks.
4.1. Presentation and Interpretation of research findings
Table 4.1 presents the panel unit root test results. There are two groups of hypotheses that are
involved here. In the first four methods, the null hypothesis is: there is panel unit root and the
alternative hypothesis is: there is no panel unit root and the decision

Pro Forma Balance Sheet Analysis
Pro Forma Balance Sheet
The Balance Sheet table below shows the Pro Forma Balance Sheet projections. As is illustrated,
the asset base will grow through accumulated cash balance and retained earnings will grow through
accumulated net profits. Based on these financial projections, the management of DELIGHT
TYME expects to build a business with a solid balance sheet for years to come.
The balance sheet shows the firm s financial position with respect to assets and liabilities at a
specific point in time. An example of a balance sheet is presented in Table..... The balance sheet
provides three types of information: assets, liabilities, and owners equity. Assets are what the
company owns, and they include current assets those that can be converted ... Show more content on

The projection for cash indicates that each year within the three year projection will end with a
positive accumulated cash flow total.
With continued sales growth, cost controls, and gross margin maintenance, the financial projections
contained in this Business Plan should allow DELIGHT TYME Enterprise to maintain a positive
cash flow and cash balance for years to come. This indicates the DELIGHT TYME will have the
ability to sustain its operational cash requirements and provide DELIGHT TYME s ownership with
dividend distribution.
For clarification, dividend distribution in addition to their salaries can be taken by owners
whenever desired. However, even though loan repayment (if applicable) has been accounted for in
the Projected Cash Flow, dividend distribution had not been accounted for in the Projected Cash
Flow. Therefore, the ending cash balance for
Year 3 represents the total cash that would be available for divided distribution if all financial
projection is accurate.
Breakeven Point (BEP)
A company has achieved breakeven when its total sales or revenues equal its total expenses. No
profit has been made at the breakeven point, nor have any losses been incurred. This calculation is
critical for any business owner because the breakeven point is the lower limit of profit when

How Many People Celebrate Thanksgiving
Over 354 million people celebrate Thanksgiving. Just to think its all started as a feast between
two very different types of people. The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in between the The
England Colonists called the Pilgrims and a Wampanoag Indian tribe. The Pilgrims celebrated
thanksgiving as a day of prayer not a feast. The holiday is connected from the feast held in
Autumn 1621 which was the Pilgrims first successful harvest. The Pilgrims came from England to
expand territory. When they got here Winter was coming soon and they did not put first things

Stonewall Jackson
Thomas Stonewall Jackson was born on January 21, 1824 in Clarksburg, Virginia. His father and
younger sibling had died of typhoid fever when Jackson was very young. This left himself, his
mother and a younger sister. His mother remarried and fell into debt with her more current husband.
Because of the immense financial struggles distressing the family, Jackson was forced to go live
with an uncle. Jackson s uncle paid little to no attention to him, even when young Jackson showed
an interest in learning. As stated in the Stonewall Jackson: The Man, The Soldier, The Legend, a
childhood friend said that Jackson was by no means... brilliant, but was one of those untiring, plain,

(Published in the Charleston Mercury on July 25, 1861). Some thought that by the Union taking
over Richmond, the head of the Confederacy, that it would end the Civil War (MacDonald 12). The
Confederate army was committed to protecting all routs to Richmond.
One year later, in 1862 Jackson blindsided the Union and defeated two Union forces. The blindside
defeat of the Union proved that Jackson was a relentless and determined military mind. Jackson did
this during the Shenandoah Valley campaign. George McClellan, commander of the Union Army,
came up with a plan to capture Richmond, the Confederate capital. McClellan was not known as the
most efficient of commanders, always seeming hesitant to commit his troops to battle. When
McClellan s troops were preparing to start their campaign, Stonewall Jackson s Confederate Army
charged through the Shenandoah Valley, making it seem as if they were going to attack
Washington, the Union s capital. This campaign that Jackson raged upon lasted from May 4th until
June 9th, 1862. This is where Jackson defeated the two Union forces.
Jackson s Shenandoah Valley campaign included battles such as Fort Royal, Winchester, Cross
keys, and Port Republic (Virginia Military Institute Archives). He defeated Union soldiers at all of
these battles. Due to Jackson s success with his Shenandoah Valley

Plagiarism In College Essay
Plagiarism in College Writing Introduction Plagiarism occurs in many forms. Self plagiarism and
inadvertent plagiarism are two forms of plagiarism. Students plagiarize for many reasons. Self
plagiarism is a form of plagiarism that is difficult to detect and often over looked. Inadvertent
plagiarism is often caused by sloppy work and poor citation preparation skills. Proper education
and practicing citations along with the use of online tools will assist the student in preparing
citations. Self plagiarism Self plagiarism is perhaps one of the most common but most overlooked
forms of plagiarism. Simply put, self plagiarism involves the handing in of the same work for more
than one assignment (MacDonell,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To avoid inadvertent plagiarism students should learn and practice these skills until they are
second nature. Conclusion Avoiding plagiarism in academic writing is something that must be
taken seriously by both faculty and students. Many online tools exist that can be used to avoid
plagiarism, both for the student and the faculty member. As simple as plagiarism is to do,
plagiarizing is just as easy to get caught. Students who resort to plagiarism during their college
years do so to due to laziness or even poor time management. All this is being done when the
students should be trying to learn to be better writers. But by plagiarizing they are only hurting
themselves, when they will not be able to write successfully a paper of any kind when asked to
do so. Learning to be a successful writer is a crucial part of the college experience. Students who
do not learn to become effective writers will feel the effects of this after they finish college and
enter the working world. Graduates will soon learn and wish that they had taken the time to build
their writing skills while in school. Becoming an effective writer and avoiding plagiarism is
sometimes a difficult task. The rewards in the end can be very fruitful. Businesses often call upon
employees to use their college writing skills on a daily basis. The Owl at Purdue states Give credit
to researchers who have come before you but make your own significant contribution. By making

The City Of New York City
The aroma of food vendors, taxi cabs, and flowers molest the face of a person as they walk the
streets of New York City. The rush of a city can often be overwhelming. Even though that may be
true, 80.7 percent of the U.S. population lived in urban areas as of the 2010 Census. Living in
New York City is better than living in a Haysi. Living in a cityoffers many more conveniences,
opportunities, and more diversity. Living in a city offers many amenities and service that might
very well not be available in a rural area. New York Cityfor example, has terrible traffic. A typical
commute of five miles can take between seven minutes and two hours in a car. One major
advantage to a city, NYC in particular, is their flawless public transportation system. Taking the
subway, the commute can be shortened to an average time of ten to fifteen minutes. Take out
service is great as well. Imagine it is two o clock AM, if someone were to wake up hungry, they
could call their local takeout restaurant and more than likely, they would be open. Cities have so
many grocers as well. Not only do cities have more conveniences, but they also offer more
opportunity. 8.406 million Americans call New York City their home. Due to the large population,
there is a large diversity. Many different cultures often bring in new opportunity for work that
might not have been thought of in the past. Living in a large city such as NYC also means a
larger, broader job market. More than likely,

The Historical Existence Of Jesus Essay
Introduction
Some scholars argue that evidence of Jesus of Nazareth s existence can only be found within the
writings of the New Testament. They believe that the New Testament is a biased and unreliable
source for the existence of Jesus. They therefore claim that Jesus did not exist. The historical
existence of Jesus is necessary to demonstrate the truth of Christianity. While Christian scholars do
not discount the reliability of the New Testament as a historical document, they are also able to
point to other historical documents and consider non Christian writings which support the existence
of Jesus. In this paper I will argue that Jesus the Nazarene was an actual, historical person and that
this can be demonstrated through extra Biblical resources.
Tacitus
Tacitus, perhaps the greatest Roman historian, provides us with an account of the fire of Rome.1 It
is within this account, recorded in The Annals, that Tacitus mentions Jesus. In chapters 38 through
45 of Annals 15, Tacitus discusses how Nero implicated Christians as those responsible for the fire.
But neither human resourcefulness nor the emperor s largesse nor appeasement of the gods could
stop belief in the nasty rumor that an order had been given for the fire. To dispel the gossip Nero
therefore found culprits on whom he inflicted the most exotic punishments. These were people
hated for their shameful offences whom the common people called Christians. The man who gave
them their name, Christus, had been executed

Brief Biography And Accomplishments Of Oprah Winfrey
Brief Biography and Accomplishments Oprah Winfrey is an icon and role model to men and
women all over the world. Many would find it difficult to pinpoint her greatest accomplishment
as Oprah has affected the lives of so many in catastrophic ways. However, Oprah wasn t someone
who was simply brought up on sums of money, she created her own luck and surpassed traumatic
obstacles that continued to sculpt her into the woman she is today. For Winfrey it all began
when she was born in 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She had a less than traditional upbringing
since her parents were never married and drifted apart, leaving Oprah in the care of her
grandmother. This is where she learned to read and write and develop the speaking skills that
she carried with her through her carrier. As a child she developed these skills through poetry
recitals and other public speaking events. Winfrey s troubles began around the age of 9 when
she started to act out. Her lack of parental supervision left Winfrey extremely vulnerable as she
sought attention elsewhere. Before the age of 10 Winfrey was sexually abused by various men,
including her teenage cousin and mother s boyfriend. Winfrey felt ashamed and held this
experience a secret with her for years to come. As Winfrey continued to act out her mother
shipped her off to live with her father in Tennessee. He was a strict disciplinary figure, something
Winfrey greatly lacked in her life, and it was this man who changed her life drastically. My

Critical Criticism Of Dr Faustus
Often a hero is thought to be simple, with few complexities that hinder them within a story.
Although the typical hero is not one filled with desires for darkness, the qualities and actions of
the tragic hero, Dr. Faustus , are considered to be dark and internal dilemmas. Though he has
obtained expansive knowledge through studying, for him the world s knowledge is not enough.
Consequently, in his quest for more knowledge at the price of his soul, he in turn had to be
constrained to the views of the people at the time. Marlowe s character, Dr. Faustus ,
dissatisfaction and boredom with the bounds of his knowledge not only complicates his character,
but hints at the author s criticism of the beliefs of his time. All of the knowledge in the world is
not enough to satisfy Dr. Faustus. Within the first couple of lines in scene one Faustus states to
himself Then read no more, thou has attained the end; A greater subject fitteth Faustus wit. (scene
1 lines 10 1) With this statement he acknowledges Aristotle s wisdom, but claims to have grown
tired of it and craves to excel past the renowned philosopher. His brashness exhibits not only his
smugness, but reinforces that he is an educated Doctor. Although Faustus is an educated man, it is
odd how he became bored of ideas that are still studied in depth today. Which then begs the
question, if Dr. Faustus is unsatisfied then does that make him a fool who only reads the surface, or
is this scene a statement by Marlowe? First, it

Dbq Appeasement Research Paper
Appeasement was not the right policy for Britain in 1938 because without this policy, Britain and
France could have stopped Hitler and World War 2 from occuring.
The appeasement policy was not ideal for Europe. It proved to allow Hitler opportunities to gain
control over most of Europe. Winston Churchill, a politician and army leader, stated that, I have
always held the view that the maintenance of peace depends upon the accumulation of deterrents
against the aggressor, coupled with a sincere effort to redress grievances. (Document B). Churchill
believed that if France or Britain put in an effort to strategize and stop Germany, they would have
prevented Germany from invading Czechoslovakia. Churchill also further states that, ... I ventured
to ... pledge that in conjunction with France and other powers they would guarantee the security of
Czechoslovakia ... and I still believe that if that course had been followed events would not have
fallen to this disastrous state... (Document B). This shows how Europe had many chance to stop

They let Germany do as it pleased to a certain extent in hopes that Germany would stop after they

revealed when George F. Kennan, a historian and American diplomat claims that, We know today
that is was unnecessary ... because the Czech defenses were very strong... and because the German

Europe had the potential to stop Germany and Hitler and also preventing World War 2. But
because of the appeasement policy, Britain and France didn t do anything and let Germany invade
and take land. This allowed Hitler to attempt to take over most of Europe, ultimately causing world

Ambrose Bierce s Influence On War
Most authors write mysteries not live in them, most authors write about war not fight in it, most
authors do not leave theories in their (supposed) death, most authors are not Ambrose Bierce.
Ambrose Bierce was a unique author/veteran (whichever you prefer). Even now people still are
trying to figure out what happened to him.
Bierce was an author who disappeared with little trace leaving behind many theories.
During the Civil War, Ambrose Bierce joined the military, fought in many battles, and wrote fiction
inspired by his time serving. Ambrose Bierce was part of the Ninth Regiment in Indiana. He
won the rank of major before the end of the war. He also fought in multiple battles. He wrote books
about the civil war like Civil War Stories and Tales of Soldiers and Civilians . He wrote a few more
but not many.
War adventures resulted in the finest, some say the only, fiction to emerge from the Civil War and
all of it remains in print. Swaim 1. Bierce Fought at Chickamauga during the civil war and wrote a
short story called Chickamauga in 1889. This book was written more than 20 years after the actual
battle of Chickamauga which occurred in 1863.
He fought in many battles and wrote stories about them after the war had ended. He was a well
known author but, in 1913 he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why I Like Penelope
I like some of the characters but some I don t like because they are rude to people in the novel.
Some of the characters I like are penelope, jaime, and maribella. I like them because they are nice
people and they believe that some people make a mistake but are a really good person or people
who hurt people for the fun of it. Maribella made a big mistake but Jaime forgave her because he
knew she did it for a good reason and not for the fun of it. I love people like this because it shows
that those people try to find the good in everyone. A reason I like Penelope is because she is so
sweet to everyone and she has a very big heart. She wants everyone to be safe and looks out for
everybody she knows and loves. Even though she makes some mistakes

Hurricane Katrina s Impact On New Orleans Essay
Migration, whether permanent or temporary, has always been a traditional response or survival
strategy of people confronting the prospect, impact or aftermath of disasters (Hugo 1996).
However, today, more than ever, the complex nature of disasters such as Hurricane Katrina in the
city of New Orleans, bring with them an enormous potential for the uprooting of large numbers of
people. The increasing complexity of disasters is rooted in the interplay of social and economic
factors in the environment, exacerbating the vulnerability of people and environments and
intensifying their impacts when they occur. Hurricane Katrinas impact on New Orleans was
compounded by an excessive dependence on technology and half a century s assault on the natural
defenses of the environment of southern Louisiana, leaving the city tragically vulnerable. Virtually
the entire population of the city has been displaced, a large proportion of it perhaps permanently,
presenting a host of profound economic, social and psychological challenges to individuals,
communities and all levels of government.
Despite technological and scientific advances in prediction and mitigation, we have seen a serious
increase in both mortality and economic losses from disasters since 1960, particularly in the
developing world. Disasters are, in fact, increasing in impact and scope through the combined
effects of economic, social, demographic, ideological and technological factors. Greater numbers of

Causes Of Climate Change
What are the main contributing factors in climate change, and what should we do about it?
Climate change is undeniably one of the biggest problems which the world at large is currently
having to deal with. There are many factors that are causing climate change but more importantly,
there are numerous ways to combat it.
One of countless examples is environmental damage. Through this issue, mega cities like Delhi
which is the capital city of economically developing India suffer constantly with problems like
smog. Due to New Delhi being blanketed in thick smog, their very own chief minister, Arvind
Kejriwal, has labelled the mega city as a gas chamber . This major problem leads to severe
consequences which were suffered at the hands of the Delhi citizens who were choking, rendering
them unable to breathe properly. It is clear that the smog that floats above cities is the most
obvious form of air pollution and in turn, environmental pollution. In megacities like Mexico City,
cars are indeed the main source of pollutants and an effective way to combat this problem is
introducing electric cars which do not run on petrol or diesel. Electric cars reduce the amount of
greenhouse gas emissions where common fuel would emit a large quantity of carbon dioxide and
additional gases. If these gases were to pollute the air, it could contribute to the greenhouse effect
and thus, lead to global warming. One pollutant related to climate change and is in actual fact an
element of smog, is

Comparing Poems Industrialization And Soft Rains
We came into this world and started to take over nature which, in the past, ruled the world itself. In
the poems industrialization by Oni and Soft Rains by Sara Teasdale, they both share the message
that nature s cycles will forever go on regardless of technology through the use of syntax and
figurative language.
In industrialization Oni demonstrates the overall idea of human unimportance by using sentence
structure. what is a human/ but a cosmic spec/ of semi wanderlust... . The sentence structure of the
previous quote helps prove the theme of human unimportance because every line of the poem does

First, the third stanza the poem writes Robins will wear their feathery fire,/ Whistling their whims
on a low fence / Wire; . Alliteration is present in the lines that say feathery fire and whistling their
whims since they both use the same first letter as one another. This alliteration shows how nature
does not need humans in order for it to carry out its daily functions. Humans are not a necessary part
of life, the robins will still keep doing what they need to without the invasion of humans. In the last
stanza, the poem states And spring herself, when she woke at/ Dawn/ Would scarcely know that we
were gone. . This is an example of personification because it shows spring waking up and continuing
her routine which gives an inanimate object a human characteristic. This stanza also helps prove
the theme of the unimportance of humans since the quote is saying that spring arouse and did not
even notice the lack of existence of humans. The quotes above use figurative language to relate the
theme of human unimportance to nature carrying on its normal responsibility. Both show that
nature does not need human interference to continue with

Human Resources Management Foundations
March 10, 2014
Material Requirements Planning (MRP) is a production planning and inventory control system
used to manage the manufacturing process. Most MRP systems are software based. However, it
is possible to conduct MRP by hand as well. The intent of a MRP system is to simultaneously
meet three objectives; (1) Ensure materials are available for production and products are available
for delivery to customers; (2) Maintain the lowest possible level of inventory; and (3) Plan
manufacturing activities, delivery schedules, and purchasing activities.
As expected, there are certain functions of human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These employees should perform business processes and change management. However, they
should not perform administrative activities. By separating transactional and administrative
functions from strategic improvement responsibilities, an organizational development group can
help accelerate operational changes (Power, 2012).
Although the human resources department does not typically lead the change and process
improvement initiatives, nonetheless, the skills potentially found within employees drawn to the
field present a clear opportunity (Power, 2012). Human resources employees should be considered
fundamental members of the MRP implementation team.
Based on the planned growth of the organization with the implementation of a MRP system, three
factors that might impact the organization s ability to hire new employees that possess the
technical skills needed to perform a job include forecasting, goal setting and strategic planning, and
the program implementation and evaluation (Noe et al., 2014, p. 131).
The first step is forecasting is for human resources to determine the demand for specific job skills
area. After this area has been identified, then a determination for the demand for each area of
skill. This can be done using statistical methods or trend analysis, which measures the labor
demand for a certain period or range of time (Noe et al., 2014, p. 131).
Secondly is the need for setting goals and strategic planning. This is

The Green Berets and Casualties of War. Both of these films deal with issues concerning the
Vietnam War. The Vietnam War was viewed as unpopular and pointless by society; The Green
Berets objective was to gain support for the Vietnam War. The film puts great emphasis on liberal
war journalist George Beckwith (David Janssen). Beckwith originally doubts America s
involvement in the war, but after spending time with the GreenBerets, his attitude changes
significantly. Casualties of War has a different perspective on the Vietnam War. The film is based
on a real life incident and it focuses on the emotional and psychological aspects of war. The film...

Lighting is also used to tell the dramatic state of mind of a character, as is the case with Private
Eriksson in Casualties of War. Eriksson suffers an injury from combat and taken to a hospitable.
Shadows from the fan blowing on him go around his face in a rapid motion. As this is shown,
Eriksson dreams of hearing the screams of the Vietnamese woman who was killed by Sergeant
Meserve. As the screams increase in volume, the shadows from the fan go around Eriksson s face
at a faster pace. Right when the screams and shadows reach their height in intensity, Eriksson
wakes up from his dream. With this expressionistic use of lighting, it allows the audience to see
how much of an impact the murder of the Vietnamese woman had on Eriksson. Now that we have
covered lighting, let s take a look at color in these two films. The use of color in The Green Berets
creates a mood for the audience. The Green Berets were labeled the liberators from oppression,
and the film creates an environment that is colored in green to express that slogan. By using the
color green, it creates a tranquil and comfortable mood for the audience. The colors blue and green
help create what a character is feeling. This is proven when George Beckwith is telling John Wayne
about his change of heart toward the war. The shot shows Beckwith with a blue sky and

Divorce Impact On Divorce
The Family Law Act 1975 (cth) defines divorce as the termination of a marriage otherwise than
by the death of a party to the marriage. The concept of divorce and marriage has dramatically
altered as the values and beliefs of society has changed, starting with the abolishment of the fault
divorce system in 1975, to the creation of online divorce kits by the Federal Magistrates Courts
in 2004. While prior to the Family Law Act 1975 (cth), divorce could be considered too difficult to
attain, today it is considered too easy to divorce. However, the process of marriageis seen as
overcomplicated, requiring multiple prerequisites to be considered legal. When compared to the
relatively difficult process of marriage, divorce can be considered too easy to attain, as a result
impacting the lives of unhappily married couples and their families throughout Australia.
The definition of marriage, as stated in the Marriage Act 1961 (cth), specifies that for a couple to

Paper One
Contemplating Death
Both philosophers and non philosophers stand on a level of equality with respect to death. There
are no experts on death, for there is nothing to know about it. Even those who study the death
process have no edge on the rest of us. We are all equals in thinking about death, and we all begin
and end thinking about it from a position of ignorance. One trouble with discussing this topic is
the instinctive fear of death. We tend to avoid death in our thoughts and actions. However, if we
could forget our fears for a minute, we could see more clearly how interesting the concept actually
is from a more detached point of view. One of the most interesting views on death comes from an
ancient Greek philosopher, Socrates. In the texts that are going to be analyzed in this essay,
Apology and Phaedo, are the retellings of words and thoughts of Socrates by Plato, a pupil and
admirer of Socrates. Both texts lecture about the topic of death and though both are the thoughts of
Socrates at different times of his life, they have similar and contrasting views on the outlook of
death.
The Apology is the most authentic account that has been preserved of Socrates defense of himself
as it was presented before the Athenian Council. Socrates accusers are poets, craftsmen, politicians
and orators who accuse him of corrupting the youth by making them lose confidence in the
government that has jurisdiction over them. Socrates speaks

There are for example different techniques to twist the yarns or types of finishing. Thread can also
differ in size, tenacity, loop or breaking strength and color fastness (YIL Corporation, n.d./2010).
This means thread can be differentiated easily, to satisfy customers needs and wishes. It is also
important to emphasize that without differentiation the consumers are in the position to make a
trade off in quality by switching to a company from an emerging country, like China, to get much
lower prices due to local and undervalued labor costs (Athukorala, 2007). To sum it up, the
industrial thread industry within the EEA is very competitive. The only striking factor is the
production of a differentiated product which can be explained by the increasing competition from
the East. The damage by the cartels can therefore be estimated to be very extensive, so it is now
interesting to investigate what agreements were made by the cartel members.
2.2 The Agreements
A competitive market is what an economy should strive for. It maximizes total welfare and
benefits all parties. The textile industry itself is very competitive, so that it is impossible for
individual firms to generate additional economic profits in the long run. Some companies would
therefore find it very beneficial to coordinate their actions. For example they could reduce the
quantity supplied, so that the market price would rise artificially. In the thread market there were
two kinds of agreements

Explain Why Christians Should Create A Society Separate...
REST OF THE WORLD
Consideration: Christians should create a society separate from the rest of the world.
Objection 1: In the Bible, God commanded his people to go out and evangelize the rest of the
world. Thus, Christians should live in a society with a non religious population and be part of the
world.
Objection 2: By living in a separated community, people tend to think they are greater than everyone
else, thus losing the virtue of humility.
Objection 3: Living in a separate society is unnecessary, as separation can cause a person to lose
touch with reality. Therefore, Christians should remain in the world and not try to separate
themselves from it.
On the contrary: In the second book of Thessalonians 3:6, it says: Now we command you, brethren,
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother who leads an unruly
life and not according to the tradition which you received from us. The brethren of our Lord
should avoid all men who are a bad influence on them. Our world today is so corrupt that many
non Christian men and women will lead Christians to a life of sin and a way of life that is not

going to have to spend more time away from the world, in deep prayer and substantial spiritual

give the world what we do not have. The Christian people have themselves too often become
corrupted by the world. If they were to live in their own separate community they could rebuild
their faith. For these reasons, Christians should work on the strength of their own faith before they
try to pass it on to others. Only when their faith is strong can they bring Christ to the

France, one of the oldest countries in Europe, has been the home to many languages since the dawn

Centuries prior to the French Revolution, France was a land mass occupied by many people of

needed to ensure reliability and validity. Can be useful to check the ownership of evidence to
ensure that students are familiar with things that other forms of assessment indicate that they have
learned well. Virtually no scope for plagiarism Can provide a free exchange of ideas on a topic
Generally used supported by other assessment methods Allows for description, evaluation and
reflection Structured discussion allows for gaps to be covered The authenticity (ownership) of the
product is not without doubt Disadvantages Can be too leading Can be disjointed; learners need
preparation time to ensure logical flow of ideas A criticism could be that it tests communication,
understanding, and capacity to think quickly under pressure. Oral work can be less stressful for
some students Cultural and individual difference can result in some candidates underperforming
when asked questions by figures of authority. Not suitable for assessing large amounts of subject

These group Norms are essential to the effectiveness of the organization and I believe that it is
the task of the superiors to bend these Norms in favor of the organizational effectiveness.
Understanding how group norms develop and why they are enforced is important for two
reasons. first, group norms can play a large role in determining whether group will be productive

Robert Cohn Quotes
Ernest Hemingway was born in 1899 and The Sun Also Rises was originally published in 1926.
During this time period, post war Europe was especially hesitant toward immigrant populations
and the dislike of Jews was common around the world. Hemingway used real life experiences and
people as inspiration for characters, setting and plot in the novel and supposedly created the main
character, Jake Barnes, as himself. In the Sun Also Rises, the anti semitic attitudes expressed
toward Robert Cohn reflect Hemingway s personal anti semitic beliefs, which were a product of
his time. Many aspects of Robert Cohn s character are stereotypical. One trait often found in
stereotypical Jewish characters is their fascination with money. Hemingway makes remarks
throughout the novel to imply that Cohn is always concerned with getting his money s worth, and
is only interested in arguments or sporting events if there s money involved. Cohn sent a telegram
to Jake and Bill during their fishing trip saying VENGO JUEVES COHN. Jake replies: What a

might be a fictional construct, created by the anti semitism of Jake and his crowd, attached to

Rainforests are vital for countless reasons; for example they produce the essential oxygen that all
species need to survive. However, despite their significant importance, rainforests are disappearing
at an alarming rate. Rinkesh states, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture
Organization, an estimated 18 million acres of forest are lost each year (Rinkesh). The rapid loss
of rainforests is due to deforestation, the clearing, destroying, or otherwise removal of trees through
deliberate, natural or accidental means ( Effects of Deforestation ). While there are many valid
reasons for deforestation, it s important to consider the destructive consequences if the rapid rate of

The removal of forests results in a decrease of clouds, which in return means less rainfall (Bala et
al.). The trees help in the water cycle process, as they return water vapor back into the atmosphere
( Deforestation ). Deforestation disrupts the water cycle, as tress can no longer evaporate the
ground water, and as a result the climate becomes drier. If the trees aren t able to do their part in
the water cycle, then the rainforest turns into more of a desert. A study was done that concluded
deforestation in the Amazon reduces rainfall in the US Midwest and northeast China
(Mcsweeney). Rainforests play such an important role in the water cycle that just one rainforest
can effect rainfall on the other side of the world. Rainforests take the water from the soil and
turn it into moisture in the air, thus cooling the air (Mcsweeney). Without trees this cooling
effect wouldn t occur and the additional moisture wouldn t be added to the air. The decrease in
moisture in the air will then result in a drier climate, and the rainforest would become more like
a desert resulting from the lack of trees. This puts a risk on agriculture as well, as the climate
becomes drier due to the lack of rainfall. Not only does the rainforest play an important role in the
water cycle, but in preventing soil erosion as

Pros And Cons Of A Compulsory Voting System
A compulsory voting system within the United States threatens America s founding ideals and
ultimately causes more negatives than positives. Preventing the United States from creating a
compulsory voting system eliminates the demand for an unnecessary disciplinary system,
guarantees the reliability of the majority vote, and ensures that America continues to live up to its
promise of Liberty.
Consequently, creating a new law comes with the responsibility for the government to construct a
new disciplinary system to protect the law and to make certain the law is obliged by. In this case,
someone that fails to vote would be unreasonably disciplined. Creating a disciplinary system would
cause an added stress on those who must enforce this law. This... Show more content on

Most people that do not vote today are those who do not take the time to fully evaluate the
candidates to make a well thought out vote. Creating this system will not make these people try
harder to choose the best candidate, but instead make a donkey vote or a vote that is random
without background knowledge. Preventing a compulsory voting system will also prevent a major
decision from being decided by many voters that randomly selected a candidate. Compulsory
voting lessens the value of the votes of people who choose the candidate that accurately stands for
their views. If individuals have no background knowledge of the candidates, their votes carry no
meaning toward a true majority decision. Fundamentally making it possible for a politician to
become the president of the United States based on a vote made by an unmethodical whim. Votes
should only made by those who strongly believe in the people they vote for, not by individuals
who vote because it is a legal issue. By preventing a compulsory voting system, the United States
would be able to ensure the United States of America makes the right decisions based upon a true

Examples Of Malebolge In Dante s Inferno
I was once loved and adored. I once shone brightly inside everyone ever created. I was heir to The
Powers , which allow you to influence anyone. I was once somebody, but now I am nobody. I am
despised among all races . I am no longer the heir to The Powers . I used to be known as Life, but
currently I am known as Malebolge, or evil ditch. Malebolge is also the eighth ring of Hell in Dante

Malebolge again. Who is she? He wondered. Jason, honey, you awake? said a muffled voice from
outside his door. Jason groaned. He woke up because of a nightmare and landed in another one.

The Importance Of Anabolic Steroids
Most serious athletes will tell you that the competitive drive to win can be fierce. Besides the
satisfaction of pers onal accomplishment, athletes often pursue dreams of winning a medal for
their country or securing a spot on a professional team. In such an environment, the use of
performance enhancing drugs has become increasingly. Anabolic steroids is the familiar name for
synthetic substances related to the male sex hormones. They promote the growth of the muscles
and the development of male characteristics in both males and females. Anabolic steroids is a

Pores grow large and acne problems that are not aided by typical over the counter medication can
occur. Stretch marks also become prominent, though they are not directly caused by steroids. They
stem from the rapid weight gain and muscle growth that steroids bring. Now the cardiovascular
system has been associated with anabolic steroid use. Steroid use can also increase the level of
low density lipoprotein and decrease the level of high density lipoprotein. Because of the high
and low ratio it can increase the risk of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerotic is a condition in which
fatty substances are deposited inside the arteries and disrupt the blood flow. Basically what that
means is that if the blood is prevented from making it to the heart that the result can be a heart
attack. If the blood cannot reach the brain that can also result in a stroke. Steroid use can also
affect the liver in multiple ways too. Since the steroids are taken inside the body we all can expect

Informative Essay On Prostate Cancer
Prostate Cancer
Ruben Tinoco

Prostate Cancer
Origin/Overview
The prostate is a gland in the male reproductive system, about the size of a walnut and surrounds
the urethra. One of its main functions is that it produces a fluid that makes up part of the semen.
As men age, the prostate may enlarge and expand, and in the enlarged state, it begins to block the
flow of urine. This is a symptom of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and while not cancerous,
surgery is required to correct urine flow. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the
United Sates after skin cancer, and it s the 2nd leading cause of death from cancer in men. Almost
all prostate cancer cases are classified as adenocarcinomas, meaning that ... Show more content on

For example, age is the biggest factor. We all know that as men age and get older they run a
higher chance of their prostate enlarging and developing cancer. Family history and race are also
the other two big ones. If people in your immediate family have had the cancer, then you run a
higher risk of contraction because you re already genetically predisposed to getting prostate
cancer. Also, African American men are more likely to be diagnosed with the cancer, with white
and Hispanic men following behind. According to the CDC, from the years 1999 2013, black men
had higher mortality and contraction rates than men of other races and ethnicities.1 Hormones are
also a risk factor; should the male be producing a lot of testosterone could put him at risk.
Statistics
In the United States, it s estimated that roughly 1 in 5 men will be diagnosed with prostate
cancer. According to the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program (SEER) of the
National Cancer Institute, the number of new cases of prostate cancer was 129.4 per 100,000 men
per year. The number of deaths was 20.7 per 100,000 men per year. These rates are age adjusted
and based on 2009 2013 cases and

The Session Initiation Protocol Sip
The Session Initiation Protocol SIP is responsible for signaling and controlling communication over
the internet. The public switch telephone network is what can connect two telephone servers and
allow them to connect with one another. In its birthing years, the PSTN was very simply operated.
This network could connect two telephones to allow conversations from homes to businesses by
telephonelines. As technology increased private branch exchanges were created. The PBE helped
the capability of increasing telephone lines to multiple different destinations. Although the
advancement on technology is extremely helpful to those who conduct international business
affairs, it also opens the door for many protocol vulnerabilities.

This type of communication is widely used across the United States and other countries for both
business and personal usage, because it is among the simplest. Call setup is the way that two
telephones can recognize one another and share information via those two lines. This means that
SIP understands call setup is the main application layer.
The act of using voIP over the internet opens the window for many internet attacks and security
and protocol issues. Protocol vulnerabilities include numerous attacks all at once, security
vulnerabilities, and attacks exploiting private and crucial information. VoIP is a freely opened
environment, therefore, there is a large window of opportunity to the hacking world. What this
means is that the internet is easily assessable to a multitude of people, some with good intent
and some with malicious intent. Because this is made to be so easily accessed, it is easy for a
person to act in a criminal manor and disrupt the flow of private conversations. To help eliminate
some of these issues SIP has evolved as the signaling protocol to recognize and handle mass media
sessions for the internet and its extremities. These vulnerabilities are so severe because attackers
can exhaust and misuse available resources, create false responses to malicious requests, or
discover more security vulnerabilities.
To secure VoIP networks can be very complicated. The first VoIP vulnerability is insufficient
verification data. This weakness

Theme Of Comradery In All Quiet On The Western Front
The psychologist Sigmund Freud once said, Because every man has a right over his own life and
war destroys lives that were full of promise; it forces the individual into situations that shame his
manhood, obliging him to murder fellow men, against his will. He initially stated this when he was
corresponding with Albert Einstein via letter. This quote is also a great explanation of the events
that take place during war that people chose to not recognise. War is terrible, and no matter how
hard we try, nothing will change that. Erich Maria Remarqueshows us that soldiers have endured
dreadfully throughout World War I
in his book All Quiet on the Western Front. The character in the
book, Paul Baumer, endures through the tragedies of war with some of his old schoolmates as
well as new comrades that he meets along the way. They survive through all of the tragedies
together, but in the end, the war made them lose their friendships as well as their lives. The reality
is that war comes with consequences while it destroys people, and there is nothing that will ever
be able to change that. The book All Quiet on the Western Front shows how war comes destroys
people s lives with its consequences through three of its themes: the importance of comradery, the
loss of innocence, and the horrors and brutality of war.
Comradery proved to be a great importance to all of the soldiers throughout the war. Whenever
somebody would get into a troublesome time, there was always another soldier

Neutrinos Research Paper
Recently, scientists found the first known evidence of oscillating neutrinos, and have come to
believe that they re getting very close to understanding these bizarre particles.
FERMILAB LAUNCHES NEUTRINOS FARTHER
This scientific advancement is the result of Fermilab s ongoing NOvA experiment, which hopes to
uncover the secrets of those elusive particles called neutrinos. The study released its final results
earlier this week. The experiment s gigantic particle detector is capable of detecting neutrinos fired
from an impressive 500 miles distance, but the scientists are having a hard time forming significant
conclusions from this recent success. It s incumbent for these quantum physicists to progress their
theories because to understand which neutrinos are heavier or lighter will help us construct theories
about how these particles accumulate mass. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

FERMILAB S EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE
In order to detect these far flung neutrinos, Fermilab s neutrino beam uses an underground detector
capable of measuring the neutrino composition of each shot. After being fired, the neutrinos
oscillate 500 miles through the Earth s crust. When one of the neutrinos collides with one of the
atoms in the detector, a signature trail of particles and light is released which is used to identify the
neutrino as an electron, muon or tau. Most neutrinos shot out of Fermilab are composed of muons,
but because of this experimental method, scientists can actually infer how many are transform in
transit from muon to electron.

Digital Image And Its Effect On The Quality Of Image
Abstract: In image processing, noise reduction and restoration of image is expected to improve
the qualitative inspection of an image and the performance criteria of quantitative image analysis
techniques Digital image is inclined to a variety of noise which affects the quality of image. The
main purpose of de noising the image is to restore the detail of original image as much as possible.
The criteria of the noiseremoval problem depends on the noise type by which the image is
corrupting .In the field of reducing the image noise several type of linear and non linear filtering
techniques have been proposed . Different approaches for reduction of noise and image
enhancement have been considered, each of which has their own limitation and advantages.

Dissolution Of Coral Reefs
The dissolution of coral reefs is a growing consequence of human activities. While efforts toward
regulation of anthropogenic factors and of ocean acidification project small feats of improvement,
time is essential to determine whether or not reduction of these factors correlate with restoration of

explored, as it effectively aims to return coral ecosystems by _______.

means of active restoration requires very little training, meaning that moving and reattaching
Elkhorn coral fragments can be done by recreational divers (Wiley Blackwell, 2010). One of the
most enticing qualities of this method is its fiscal convenience, as cost of all materials, use of a
boat and scuba, and scientist salary totaled US$21 per transplant (Garrison et al.

The Difference between American and German Thinking
The way Germans and Americans think is totally opposite. Germans think deductively, and take a
scientific approach. On the other hand Americans tend to think inductively, they first form a goal
and figure out the details later. These styles but head because Germans often think of the American
approach as unrealistic. The negative side to the German thinking is that while are German is
planning an American may beat him to putting an item on the market. The Americans might not be
100 percent error free but they got the product out first. Communication styles are also very
different in the two countries. Americans do not like to disagree with one another. They hardly ever
tend to respond with firm answers and try to beat around the bush and try to politely tell someone
no. Germanslike to debate with each other when they are facing a problem. If a German disagrees
with you they will be sure that it is made know.
A difference between Germany and America is freedom vs. security. Americans believe in having
freedom even at the cost of sacrificing security. Germans on the other hand like to have security.
They like to be able to plan ahead for long periods of time. They find the fact that in the US a
person can be fired from their job for almost no reason at all very distressing. There is also a great
difference in freedom of speech in the two countries. For example in the US racist Nazi
propaganda would be legal where in Germany it is completely illegal. The American view is I

  • 2. Explain the Teleological Arguments for the Existence of... Explain the Teleological arguments The word teleological originates from the Greek telos meaning end or purpose. It infers the existence of God from a particular aspect or character of the world, namely the presence of order, regularity and purpose, and thus, is most commonly known as the design argument; it postulates the idea of a designer for all that has been designed. As its name suggests, the teleological argument attempts to seek the ultimate end or purpose. Furthermore, the teleological argument holds the belief that this designer is the primary cause of such existences, and is therefore what Aristotle would believe to be the uncaused cause , the unmoved mover . It is never assumed that this initial cause could be God, yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, there must be a superior being, big enough to create a supreme artefact such as the universe. Finally, David Hume likened the world to one great machine subdivided into an infinite number of lesser machines . This theory however leads to the philosophy that similar effects require a similar cause. Through the thrust of Hume s argument, he introduces us to two characters that express the argument for design; whilst a third, namely Philo, criticises the argument. Swinburne identifies the argument from design and the argument to design, also known as the anthropic argument. The former form usually involves analogy, and the latter, argues that nature provides for the needs of intelligent beings. This would however, require an extreme intelligence such as God. The heart of this argument is that non intelligent material things produce beneficial order and therefore require an intelligent being to elicit this. Three features of the world particularly impressed eighteenth century thinkers; firstly the world as a whole, specifically the solar system as described by Newton s gravitational theory. Secondly, the bodily forms of all animals and plants, in particular organs such as the eye. Finally, the providential arrangement of things on earth amazed eighteenth century philosophers. This leads us back to the design argument for the pocket watch, an aspect that also impressed people at the time; it was a new invention and a clear sign of breakthrough in ... • 3. Interactionism In College Upon graduating high school, many students are faced with the decision to continue their education at a higher learning institution or approach the work force: more often than not, especially in today s society, these students are pushed to attend college, in the hopes of creating better job opportunities and a wholesome lifestyle. When many of these students do approach college, it is clear that the workload is much more strenuous and tedious than what they have previously dealt with, often wondering how they will accomplish seemingly never ending schoolwork. A fraction of these students are also involved in student athletics, adding practices and games to their already hectic schedule: how do these students handle being a student for half... Whether it be laziness or desperation to play in their upcoming game, when caught, the repercussions are strong and deemed unacceptable by both the NCAA and the university. • 4. Data Analysis And Interpretation Of The Data Essay Data Analysis and Interpretation The objective of this chapter is to describe the procedures used in the analysis of the data and present the main findings. It also presents the different tests performed to help choose the appropriate model for the study. The chapter concludes by providing thorough statistical interpretation of the findings. The research data was analyzed using a statistical software called STATA. Before running the data for the regression analysis, panel unit root test was performed to see if data is stationary over time so that it can be used in estimating the variables in question. The value of the variables in the model throughout the research period is not constant; that means, there are some periods where there are spikes. These periods of ups and downs in value of economic variables are called shock in economic jargon. The notion behind testing for stationarity is to identify whether the effect of such shocks is permanent or transitory. If the effect of such shocks is temporary, the subsequent values of the variables will return to their long term equilibrium suggesting that the data is stable even with the presence of shocks. 4.1. Presentation and Interpretation of research findings Table 4.1 presents the panel unit root test results. There are two groups of hypotheses that are involved here. In the first four methods, the null hypothesis is: there is panel unit root and the alternative hypothesis is: there is no panel unit root and the decision ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pro Forma Balance Sheet Analysis Pro Forma Balance Sheet The Balance Sheet table below shows the Pro Forma Balance Sheet projections. As is illustrated, the asset base will grow through accumulated cash balance and retained earnings will grow through accumulated net profits. Based on these financial projections, the management of DELIGHT TYME expects to build a business with a solid balance sheet for years to come. The balance sheet shows the firm s financial position with respect to assets and liabilities at a specific point in time. An example of a balance sheet is presented in Table..... The balance sheet provides three types of information: assets, liabilities, and owners equity. Assets are what the company owns, and they include current assets those that can be converted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The projection for cash indicates that each year within the three year projection will end with a positive accumulated cash flow total. With continued sales growth, cost controls, and gross margin maintenance, the financial projections contained in this Business Plan should allow DELIGHT TYME Enterprise to maintain a positive cash flow and cash balance for years to come. This indicates the DELIGHT TYME will have the ability to sustain its operational cash requirements and provide DELIGHT TYME s ownership with dividend distribution. For clarification, dividend distribution in addition to their salaries can be taken by owners whenever desired. However, even though loan repayment (if applicable) has been accounted for in the Projected Cash Flow, dividend distribution had not been accounted for in the Projected Cash Flow. Therefore, the ending cash balance for Year 3 represents the total cash that would be available for divided distribution if all financial projection is accurate. Breakeven Point (BEP) A company has achieved breakeven when its total sales or revenues equal its total expenses. No profit has been made at the breakeven point, nor have any losses been incurred. • 7. Stonewall Jackson Thomas Stonewall Jackson was born on January 21, 1824 in Clarksburg, Virginia. His father and younger sibling had died of typhoid fever when Jackson was very young. This left himself, his mother and a younger sister. His mother remarried and fell into debt with her more current husband. Because of the immense financial struggles distressing the family, Jackson was forced to go live with an uncle. Jackson s uncle paid little to no attention to him, even when young Jackson showed an interest in learning. As stated in the Stonewall Jackson: The Man, The Soldier, The Legend, a childhood friend said that Jackson was by no means... brilliant, but was one of those untiring, plain, matter of fact persons who would never give up... until he... Some thought that by the Union taking over Richmond, the head of the Confederacy, that it would end the Civil War (MacDonald 12). The Confederate army was committed to protecting all routs to Richmond. One year later, in 1862 Jackson blindsided the Union and defeated two Union forces. The blindside defeat of the Union proved that Jackson was a relentless and determined military mind. Jackson did this during the Shenandoah Valley campaign. George McClellan, commander of the Union Army, came up with a plan to capture Richmond, the Confederate capital. McClellan was not known as the most efficient of commanders, always seeming hesitant to commit his troops to battle. When McClellan s troops were preparing to start their campaign, Stonewall Jackson s Confederate Army charged through the Shenandoah Valley, making it seem as if they were going to attack Washington, the Union s capital. This campaign that Jackson raged upon lasted from May 4th until June 9th, 1862. This is where Jackson defeated the two Union forces. Jackson s Shenandoah Valley campaign included battles such as Fort Royal, Winchester, Cross keys, and Port Republic (Virginia Military Institute Archives). He defeated Union soldiers at all of these battles. Due to Jackson s success with his Shenandoah Valley ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Plagiarism In College Essay Plagiarism in College Writing Introduction Plagiarism occurs in many forms. Self plagiarism and inadvertent plagiarism are two forms of plagiarism. Students plagiarize for many reasons. Self plagiarism is a form of plagiarism that is difficult to detect and often over looked. Inadvertent plagiarism is often caused by sloppy work and poor citation preparation skills. Proper education and practicing citations along with the use of online tools will assist the student in preparing citations. Self plagiarism Self plagiarism is perhaps one of the most common but most overlooked forms of plagiarism. Simply put, self plagiarism involves the handing in of the same work for more than one assignment (MacDonell,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To avoid inadvertent plagiarism students should learn and practice these skills until they are second nature. Conclusion Avoiding plagiarism in academic writing is something that must be taken seriously by both faculty and students. Many online tools exist that can be used to avoid plagiarism, both for the student and the faculty member. As simple as plagiarism is to do, plagiarizing is just as easy to get caught. Students who resort to plagiarism during their college years do so to due to laziness or even poor time management. All this is being done when the students should be trying to learn to be better writers. But by plagiarizing they are only hurting themselves, when they will not be able to write successfully a paper of any kind when asked to do so. Learning to be a successful writer is a crucial part of the college experience. Students who do not learn to become effective writers will feel the effects of this after they finish college and enter the working world. Graduates will soon learn and wish that they had taken the time to build their writing skills while in school. Becoming an effective writer and avoiding plagiarism is sometimes a difficult task. The rewards in the end can be very fruitful. Businesses often call upon employees to use their college writing skills on a daily basis. • 9. The City Of New York City The aroma of food vendors, taxi cabs, and flowers molest the face of a person as they walk the streets of New York City. The rush of a city can often be overwhelming. Even though that may be true, 80.7 percent of the U.S. population lived in urban areas as of the 2010 Census. Living in New York City is better than living in a Haysi. Living in a cityoffers many more conveniences, opportunities, and more diversity. Living in a city offers many amenities and service that might very well not be available in a rural area. New York Cityfor example, has terrible traffic. A typical commute of five miles can take between seven minutes and two hours in a car. One major advantage to a city, NYC in particular, is their flawless public transportation system. Taking the subway, the commute can be shortened to an average time of ten to fifteen minutes. Take out service is great as well. Imagine it is two o clock AM, if someone were to wake up hungry, they could call their local takeout restaurant and more than likely, they would be open. Cities have so many grocers as well. Not only do cities have more conveniences, but they also offer more opportunity. 8.406 million Americans call New York City their home. Due to the large population, there is a large diversity. Many different cultures often bring in new opportunity for work that might not have been thought of in the past. Living in a large city such as NYC also means a larger, broader job market. More than likely, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Historical Existence Of Jesus Essay Introduction Some scholars argue that evidence of Jesus of Nazareth s existence can only be found within the writings of the New Testament. They believe that the New Testament is a biased and unreliable source for the existence of Jesus. They therefore claim that Jesus did not exist. The historical existence of Jesus is necessary to demonstrate the truth of Christianity. While Christian scholars do not discount the reliability of the New Testament as a historical document, they are also able to point to other historical documents and consider non Christian writings which support the existence of Jesus. In this paper I will argue that Jesus the Nazarene was an actual, historical person and that this can be demonstrated through extra Biblical resources. Tacitus Tacitus, perhaps the greatest Roman historian, provides us with an account of the fire of Rome.1 It is within this account, recorded in The Annals, that Tacitus mentions Jesus. In chapters 38 through 45 of Annals 15, Tacitus discusses how Nero implicated Christians as those responsible for the fire. But neither human resourcefulness nor the emperor s largesse nor appeasement of the gods could stop belief in the nasty rumor that an order had been given for the fire. To dispel the gossip Nero therefore found culprits on whom he inflicted the most exotic punishments. These were people hated for their shameful offences whom the common people called Christians. The man who gave them their name, Christus, had been executed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Brief Biography And Accomplishments Of Oprah Winfrey Brief Biography and Accomplishments Oprah Winfrey is an icon and role model to men and women all over the world. Many would find it difficult to pinpoint her greatest accomplishment as Oprah has affected the lives of so many in catastrophic ways. However, Oprah wasn t someone who was simply brought up on sums of money, she created her own luck and surpassed traumatic obstacles that continued to sculpt her into the woman she is today. For Winfrey it all began when she was born in 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She had a less than traditional upbringing since her parents were never married and drifted apart, leaving Oprah in the care of her grandmother. This is where she learned to read and write and develop the speaking skills that she carried with her through her carrier. As a child she developed these skills through poetry recitals and other public speaking events. Winfrey s troubles began around the age of 9 when she started to act out. Her lack of parental supervision left Winfrey extremely vulnerable as she sought attention elsewhere. Before the age of 10 Winfrey was sexually abused by various men, including her teenage cousin and mother s boyfriend. Winfrey felt ashamed and held this experience a secret with her for years to come. As Winfrey continued to act out her mother shipped her off to live with her father in Tennessee. He was a strict disciplinary figure, something Winfrey greatly lacked in her life, and it was this man who changed her life drastically. My ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Critical Criticism Of Dr Faustus Often a hero is thought to be simple, with few complexities that hinder them within a story. Although the typical hero is not one filled with desires for darkness, the qualities and actions of the tragic hero, Dr. Faustus , are considered to be dark and internal dilemmas. Though he has obtained expansive knowledge through studying, for him the world s knowledge is not enough. Consequently, in his quest for more knowledge at the price of his soul, he in turn had to be constrained to the views of the people at the time. Marlowe s character, Dr. Faustus , dissatisfaction and boredom with the bounds of his knowledge not only complicates his character, but hints at the author s criticism of the beliefs of his time. All of the knowledge in the world is not enough to satisfy Dr. Faustus. Within the first couple of lines in scene one Faustus states to himself Then read no more, thou has attained the end; A greater subject fitteth Faustus wit. (scene 1 lines 10 1) With this statement he acknowledges Aristotle s wisdom, but claims to have grown tired of it and craves to excel past the renowned philosopher. His brashness exhibits not only his smugness, but reinforces that he is an educated Doctor. Dbq Appeasement Research Paper Appeasement was not the right policy for Britain in 1938 because without this policy, Britain and France could have stopped Hitler and World War 2 from occuring. The appeasement policy was not ideal for Europe. It proved to allow Hitler opportunities to gain control over most of Europe. Winston Churchill, a politician and army leader, stated that, I have always held the view that the maintenance of peace depends upon the accumulation of deterrents against the aggressor, coupled with a sincere effort to redress grievances. (Document B). Churchill believed that if France or Britain put in an effort to strategize and stop Germany, they would have prevented Germany from invading Czechoslovakia. Churchill also further states that, ... • 19. Hurricane Katrina s Impact On New Orleans Essay Migration, whether permanent or temporary, has always been a traditional response or survival strategy of people confronting the prospect, impact or aftermath of disasters (Hugo 1996). However, today, more than ever, the complex nature of disasters such as Hurricane Katrina in the city of New Orleans, bring with them an enormous potential for the uprooting of large numbers of people. The increasing complexity of disasters is rooted in the interplay of social and economic factors in the environment, exacerbating the vulnerability of people and environments and intensifying their impacts when they occur. Hurricane Katrinas impact on New Orleans was compounded by an excessive dependence on technology and half a century s assault on the natural defenses of the environment of southern Louisiana, leaving the city tragically vulnerable. Virtually the entire population of the city has been displaced, a large proportion of it perhaps permanently, presenting a host of profound economic, social and psychological challenges to individuals, communities and all levels of government. Despite technological and scientific advances in prediction and mitigation, we have seen a serious increase in both mortality and economic losses from disasters since 1960, particularly in the developing world. • 20. Causes Of Climate Change What are the main contributing factors in climate change, and what should we do about it? Climate change is undeniably one of the biggest problems which the world at large is currently having to deal with. There are many factors that are causing climate change but more importantly, there are numerous ways to combat it. One of countless examples is environmental damage. Through this issue, mega cities like Delhi which is the capital city of economically developing India suffer constantly with problems like smog. Due to New Delhi being blanketed in thick smog, their very own chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has labelled the mega city as a gas chamber . This major problem leads to severe consequences which were suffered at the hands of the Delhi citizens who were choking, rendering them unable to breathe properly. It is clear that the smog that floats above cities is the most obvious form of air pollution and in turn, environmental pollution. In megacities like Mexico City, cars are indeed the main source of pollutants and an effective way to combat this problem is introducing electric cars which do not run on petrol or diesel. Electric cars reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions where common fuel would emit a large quantity of carbon dioxide and additional gases. If these gases were to pollute the air, it could contribute to the greenhouse effect and thus, lead to global warming. One pollutant related to climate change and is in actual fact an element of smog, is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Comparing Socrates Apology And Phaedo Riya Roy HON 105 Will McNeil 04/15/14 Paper One Contemplating Death Both philosophers and non philosophers stand on a level of equality with respect to death. There are no experts on death, for there is nothing to know about it. Even those who study the death process have no edge on the rest of us. We are all equals in thinking about death, and we all begin and end thinking about it from a position of ignorance. One trouble with discussing this topic is the instinctive fear of death. We tend to avoid death in our thoughts and actions. However, if we could forget our fears for a minute, we could see more clearly how interesting the concept actually is from a more detached point of view. One of the most interesting views on death comes from an ancient Greek philosopher, Socrates. In the texts that are going to be analyzed in this essay, Apology and Phaedo, are the retellings of words and thoughts of Socrates by Plato, a pupil and admirer of Socrates. Both texts lecture about the topic of death and though both are the thoughts of Socrates at different times of his life, they have similar and contrasting views on the outlook of death. The Apology is the most authentic account that has been preserved of Socrates defense of himself as it was presented before the Athenian Council. It is also important to emphasize that without differentiation the consumers are in the position to make a trade off in quality by switching to a company from an emerging country, like China, to get much lower prices due to local and undervalued labor costs (Athukorala, 2007). To sum it up, the industrial thread industry within the EEA is very competitive. It maximizes total welfare and benefits all parties. The textile industry itself is very competitive, so that it is impossible for individual firms to generate additional economic profits in the long run. Objection 1: In the Bible, God commanded his people to go out and evangelize the rest of the world. Thus, Christians should live in a society with a non religious population and be part of the world. Objection 2: By living in a separated community, people tend to think they are greater than everyone else, thus losing the virtue of humility. Objection 3: Living in a separate society is unnecessary, as separation can cause a person to lose touch with reality. Therefore, Christians should remain in the world and not try to separate themselves from it. On the contrary: In the second book of Thessalonians 3:6, it says: Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother who leads an unruly life and not according to the tradition which you received from us. As one of the most influential European nations, France has successfully spread its culture and language throughout the world. During this time period, post war Europe was especially hesitant toward immigrant populations and the dislike of Jews was common around the world. Hemingway used real life experiences and people as inspiration for characters, setting and plot in the novel and supposedly created the main character, Jake Barnes, as himself. In the Sun Also Rises, the anti semitic attitudes expressed toward Robert Cohn reflect Hemingway s personal anti semitic beliefs, which were a product of his time. Many aspects of Robert Cohn s character are stereotypical. One trait often found in stereotypical Jewish characters is their fascination with money. Hemingway makes remarks throughout the novel to imply that Cohn is always concerned with getting his money s worth, and is only interested in arguments or sporting events if there s money involved. The removal of forests results in a decrease of clouds, which in return means less rainfall (Bala et al.). The trees help in the water cycle process, as they return water vapor back into the atmosphere ( Deforestation ). Deforestation disrupts the water cycle, as tress can no longer evaporate the ground water, and as a result the climate becomes drier. If the trees aren t able to do their part in the water cycle, then the rainforest turns into more of a desert. A study was done that concluded deforestation in the Amazon reduces rainfall in the US Midwest and northeast China (Mcsweeney). Rainforests play such an important role in the water cycle that just one rainforest can effect rainfall on the other side of the world. Rainforests take the water from the soil and turn it into moisture in the air, thus cooling the air (Mcsweeney). Without trees this cooling effect wouldn t occur and the additional moisture wouldn t be added to the air. The decrease in moisture in the air will then result in a drier climate, and the rainforest would become more like a desert resulting from the lack of trees. This puts a risk on agriculture as well, as the climate becomes drier due to the lack of rainfall.
