Human Predators
Loc Truong Anthr 1A 10/4/2016 Analysis Assignment The topic that is most interesting to me is Rise
of the Human Predator by Wong K. In addition, this article is simply foundered on the formation and
development of human predator. It includes three separate parts which are Brave New World ,
Butchered Bones and Deep Impact . Each part has its own content about how our ancestors gradually
becomes the most successful predator in the world. But it also points out an interesting nowadays
reality, In our era of supermarkets and fast food, it is easy to forget that we humans are natural born
hunters , but we were and we always are the most lethal predator on earths. Firstly, Brave The World

For decades experts have debated whether early Homo hunted or scavenged , there are many
evidences but the one from The Kanjera is the solid one for hunting so far. Joseph Ferraro of Baylor
University, Thomas W. Plummer of Queens College, C.U.N.Y., and their collaborators have unearthed
thousands of stone tools and animal bones that were stripped of their flesh and marrow. They also find
out most of the bones are from the little animals and carnivores, that lead them to the idea of the
Hominins hunts and eats those themselves. By listing many of the evidences before ending with the
evidence from The Kanjera and calling it the oldest solid evidence , the author answers the doubts
inside the reader clearly, also, the evidence from Joseph and his collaborators is strong enough for
Wong to convince the readers. By researching, the evidence determines if those little species are killed
by large carnivores, they would have completely consumed the carcasses rather than leaving any
tissue behind , as I read just to this point, this is not solid enough to convince me. But at the end of
Butchered Bones , analyses of the tools from the site show that they were also processing plants,
including tubers , then I totally agree and believe to what the author

The Toa Payoh Heritage Trail
I have selected to go on the Toa Payoh Heritage Trail because it is one of the most popular heritage
trail as I noticed that is has the most number of likes as compared to the other trails launched by
National Heritage Board. Before I went for the trail, I downloaded the Toa Payoh Heritage Trail e
booklet found on the website. The booklet was very useful as it was very informative. It provided me
many information about Toa Payoh as well as the sites in the trail. It helps me to understand Toa
Payoh and the sites and its history better as I do not live in that area and by far, I have only gone to
Toa Payoh once when I was very little. Hence, I was not familiar with Toa Payoh at all. According to

The Impact Of Technology On Evolution Of Knowledge
There are many false claims in the science world that goes back and forth on their ideas and
sometimes it s the public s choice to decide which fact is reliable. With research, it is shown that
people believed what others thought were true without needing evidence to back up the claim. With
new technology it became easier for the people to judge which claim is accurate due to the new
science findings that supports that specific subject claim. Scientific facts are explained by evidence
proven by multiple experiments that are tested by many other scientists. If a scientific claim is proven
to be true, why is it that in some cases after years of studying the fact are re evaluated and proven to
be false? To what extent does development of technology play a role in the evolution of knowledge?
How do we know what scientific fact is reliable?
When a new scientific theory or claim is made, the scientist tries to confirm it is the truth by using
new technology to test out their idea. Some of the time, their old claim is outdated or falsified and they
must admit they were wrong. Remember before 2006 people thought Pluto was the 9th planet from the
sun? International Astronomical Union changed the status of Pluto by reclassifying as a dwarf planet
because it did not meet the criteria of a planet. More significant claims have been made and many
people are aware of some well known superseded scientific theories and wonder why they were
believed to be true in the first place.

Designing an Orientation and Training Program Essay
Designing an Orientation and Training Program By designing and implementing an orientation and
training program, a company can expect to receive benefits. These benefits may include improved
communications, knowledgeable employees, increased productivity, and improved employee
satisfaction levels. This training could also have impact on employee retention, thus lowering turnover
rates, which can cause a company valuable time and money. In designing these types of programs, a
company should assess the needs of itself and employees. A training supervisor should have a
classroom, within the administrative center of the business. This classroom should be stocked with
appropriate supplies and tools a training supervisor will need, ... Show more content on

then proceed to explain the organization s operations and levels of authority, and how they relate with
each other (Rue Byars, 2004). This will also cover the functions of management. The training
supervisor explains the job functions and responsibilities and these topics will be covered during later
training. The next topic will cover the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the organization.
General office practice and business etiquette is also defined during this time, along with city, state,
and any federal laws in which applies to an employee s job function (Rue Byars, 2004). Conditions of
employment, which include punctuality, attendance, conduct, hours of work, overtime, and terminate
should be covered along with what is expected of the new employee (Rue Byars, 2004). These
expectations include attitude, reliability, initiative, emotional maturity, and person appearance (Rue
Byars, 2004). It is imperative that the training supervisor stops after each section which is covered and
ask if any of the employees have questions related to a section. This is to ensure that the employees
understand the material put before them. The supervisor will move on to cover pay procedures and
personnel policies. At this time it would be beneficial to discuss what benefits are included with their
employment as well as when those

Driving In The Summer Compare And Contrast
Comparing and contrasting driving in the winter and driving in the summer. They both can be very
dangerous weather to drive in. but there are differences between the two and there are similarities. The
similarities of driving in the winter and the summer is that they both have inclement weather that can
be hard to drive in. That can cause it to be very dangerous on the roads. The differences is that in the
summer it is clear blue skies making it easier to see when you are driving. It can also be very difficult
to see when the sun is shining the sun can be often very bright. Also sometimes in the summer it s
hard to tell whether the light is yellow green or red due to the sun shining. Also in the summer the heat

Determinism Vs Compatibilism
Freewill has been thoroughly discussed by ancient philosophers and modern scientist alike yet no
conclusion has ever been reached. With the issue that whether freewill is consistent or inconsistent
with the idea that everything happens out of mechanistically that is deemed appropriate by the
universe. There are three common camps of thoughts on the matter of free will. Determinism and
Libertarianism and Compatibilism. This essay argues the fact that freewill is indeed not an illusion and
attempts to redress the balance between these camps of thoughts by offering an overview of strategy
via that of a compatabilism point of view.

The argument is based on a crucial differences between the past and the future. Simply put, the future
is a open for things to happen without our prior knowledge of what is to come. It is possible to look
back at the past and reflect on what has happened but the same cannot be said for the future. We are
able to influence what the past became but we cannot literally change the past even if we admit the
possibility of time travel. The asymmetry between past and future is illustrated by the fact that we do
not deliberate about what has happened but we do so about what is to come. One can certainly
question about whether the past action that we have chosen is the best, but one can also both question
what future acts would be best as well as which future action should be performed, making the future
open in a way the past is not. When an individual is using free will, what is happening is that the
person is given a range of different opinion and selecting the best course of action, each option is
possible given the past and the laws of nature. This view of free will is often called the Garden of

Dr. Greg Forbes
Dr. Greg Forbes
What is a hero to you? According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, a hero is someone who is
greatly admired for their qualities or actions. A hero does not have to be famous or have extraordinary
powers. A new day brings a new hero and as times change, so does the hero. For the majority of
people, a hero is a person who makes a difference with an insignificant action, but yet, it has a
tremendous impact in their life. That hero in my life, is Dr. Greg Forbes.
Greg Forbes was creative and open. Some call meteorology a guessing game, and not a science, so
maybe he had to be creative to begin with. Working under the great Dr. Ted Fujita, Forbes expanded
the Fujita scale to involve path and width along with Fujita s original wind speed determination of
tornadoes. He also expanded the field of tornado research by examining the possibility of multi vortex
tornadoes, helping confirm that hook echoes indicate tornadoes along with serving as the field
manager of Project NIMROD, determining the effects of wind damage associated with downbursts
and microbursts. Clearly by his involvement in so many research projects, Forbes had an open and
creative mind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Weather Channel, especially over the spring and summer. Since joining The Weather Channel in 1999,
Greg has alerted those who are and will be in the path of the severe thunderstorms to take shelter

Pain Essay
Pain is defined as an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience that inevitably everyone in society
will experience at some stage throughout his or her lifespan, and every individuals experience will
differ from that of another s (Mac Lellan, 2006). This maybe due to any number of factors that can
affect an individual, such as age, gender, emotional state, culture, or previous encounters with pain
(Funnell, Koutoukidis, Lawrence, 2005). In this reflective assignment I will discuss not only how
some of those contributing factors affected a pain episode that I recently experienced. But also how an
inability by medical staff to carry out a simple pain assessment and to prescribe and administer
adequate pain management impacted on my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But regardless of the pains cause and site of origin, for most people pain is simply as stated before an
unpleasant sensory and emotional experience (Mc Lellan, 2006).
An experience that medical professionals like to define in much broader terms, one that states that
Pain is whatever the patient says it is, existing wherever the experiencing person says it is (Farrell,
2005). This definition very much emphasises how subjective in nature the whole pain experience
tends to be, because it relies not only totally on the patient s ability to self report on their level of pain
being experienced, but also on how effective their pain management interventions have been (Farrell,
2005). This important tool known as a pain assessment not only aids in making a diagnosis of a patient
s medical condition, it also gives medical staff a reliable indicator of the patient s location of pain, its
quality and intensity, onset and duration, and any measures that help to relief it (Crisp Taylor, 2009). A
failure to carry out such an assessment could result in not only in the patient suffering with
unnecessary pain, but can also result in the patient experiencing symptoms such as stress, fatigue,
insomnia, an inability to eat or mobilize, social isolation or depression (Crisp Taylor, 2009).

A Research Study On Global Integration
To start off, the first thing that comes to mind is to define what global integration is. I guess you can
say it is another way of saying free trade throughout the world. Throughout my research I found that
there was not any true definition of global integration. So to define global integration there is really
only one way. Global is defined as of or relation to the whole world and integration is the action or
process of integrating. To put the words together global integration is defined as the action or process
of integrating to the whole world. That is the definition I came up with. Now in my research I found a
definition that was suitable and it is the process by which a company combines different activities
around the world so that they operate using the same methods. Now that there are different definitions
that we can use, there are a couple of things that I found interesting about global integration. In this
paper I will be discussing four things about global integration. These four items are the history,
advantages, disadvantages, and just my opinion of if global integration is either good or bad.
Hopefully throughout this paper you will learn many things that you did not know about global
integration. The history of global integration goes back many years. How did people come up with
this form of integrating? Who invented the term? Who was the first person to use this in the world?
These are just some of the questions that are asked when you start

I Am A Camp Counselor
I absolutely adore my job. It s far from my home in Massachusetts and it doesn t pay much, but I

worth the commute. I am a camp counselor at an equestrian camp and all my campers are the lights of
my life. The weather here in Florida isn t great but it s mostly manageable. I am the counselor for
group 1A which is the youngest group of kids. I adore my campers, each one is different in their own
special way and they each have a unique way of making me smile. I love walking through the glass

Hurricane Matthew was brutal, and nothing short of a heart break. A few families actually drive down

instant shock. What if someone is hurt, I asked myself, what if a camper is hurt? Then it hit me, what
if one of my campers is hurt? The thought of it made me ache, I tried to ignore the feeling but it was
nothing short of impossible, my campers are in danger. I told myself I was overreacting, there s no
way that out of the people who were getting hurt, one of my campers could actually be one of them.
Then we received an email: We are not sure on details but we believe one of our younger campers may
be severely injured by Hurricane Matthew, we will keep you updated. Please stay safe, everyone! As I
read it, my heart dropped further down with each word until eventually it felt like my heart had fallen

worst enemy, I couldn t stop myself from reading it over and over again, and every time I read it, I
analyzed it more, and it began killing me from the outside in. The email read one of our youngest
campers so it has to be on of my girls... but I don t know who, what, or how. I spent the next two days

The Change Of Lancelot s Character In Oedipus The King
In the third book a new character is introduced, a character that can also be seen as a typical hero.
Lancelot is a knight serving under Arthur, but as he wants to serve his typical knightly duties and tells
Arthur that I want to go on a quest. I want to find an adventure (ch. 6). Questing was very typical for
knights, in order to prove their worth, and to achieve eternal glory. Book three centers around the story
of Lancelot and his hero s journey, rather than Arthur s. Lancelot s character is equally as complex as
Arthur s as both have their code of morals and loyalty to the other, but at the same time face
challenges that make them question said loyalties.
18. Guenever is at this point an old woman, but her love for Lancelot is no longer a purely physical
thing. She looked singularly lovely, not like a film star, but like a woman who had grown a soul (8, ).

who wanted much more than Arthur could give her. For Guenever to grow a soul ... Show more

unconsciously that the only solution for him and for his loved ones must lie in his death (ch. 41). He
begins his reflection on his life s decisions, and finds them to be full of regrets. His son hates him, and
will probably kill him. He slept with his half sister, and his wife is sleeping with his best friend. He
also killed a lot of innocent children. Arthur has tried for years to make up for the things that he has
done, and has tried to solve things equally and just. But now he knows that the only way all of his
mistakes will be resolved is in his death, and he has to accept that fact. This marks the end of Arthur s
life almost, as everything after this will be Arthur saying his goodbyes and attempting to fix things one

Tribal Sovereignty Controversy
Tribal sovereignty is a highly debated concept and an important aspect of Native American society. It
refers to a tribe s power to govern itself, manage its membership, and regulate tribal relations. As
Joanna Barker stated, Sovereignty carries the awful stench of colonization. Tribal sovereignty must be
traced to the beginning of colonization in North America. Colonizing nations asserted sovereignty
over indigenous people and took away their independent status. The term tribal sovereignty carries
with it multiples meanings and implications for tribal nations (Cobb, 2005). Amanda Cobb (2005)
defines sovereignty as a nation s power to self govern, to determine its own way of life, and to live
that life to whatever extent possible free from interference. If tribal sovereignty falls under Cobb s
definition, Native American tribes in the United States are not completely sovereign, for some aspects
of their lives are still under the control of the federal government. Tribal councils are still regarded as
having tribal sovereignty, but they are limited by federal funding and authority. Sovereignty is a nation
s relative independence from and among other states (Cobb, 2005). In this case, tribal sovereignty of
Native nations depends upon recognition by the United States. This is ironic; their tribal sovereignty
has been granted to them by the Unites States federal government. No single nation is completely
independent of foreign influence. Tribal nations more so

Judicial Reform Act 2005 Essay
Judicial independence is the concept that the judiciary should be separate of the legislative and
executive branches of government. It can be argued that to a moderate extent the Constitutional
Reform Act 2005 and Courts and Crime Act 2013 do enforce and protect judicial independence.
Evidence is provided within sections s.3 and s.7 of CRA 2005 along with the reforms introduced by
the Act. Other acts such as the Act of Settlement 1701 also safeguards independence.
Dame Mary Arden argued that judicial independence involved at least two things being the judge in
any individual case being free to reach the decision which he or she considers to be in accordance with
the law, free from any influence, and it means institutional independence meaning ... Show more

This enforces independence because it allows the Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice to handle
complaints about discipline and conduct with the help of solely the Ombudsman meaning they are not
being assisted by anyone else. The JACO also protects independence for this exact reason.
One important amendment made by the Crime and Courts Act 2013 is that the Lord Chancellor s
powers to accept, reject or ask for reconsideration of recommendations for judicial appointments
below the High Court have been transferred to the Lord Chief Justice . This means the LC would then
focus on the more senior judicial positions. As the LCJ is not a political executive this would enforce
independence as the branches of government would continue to stay separate and allow judicial
diversity, which was a goal of the JAC s .
However, the Act of Settlement 1701 guarantees independence as it gives senior judges security of
tenure, which means that their continued office is not dependent of the favour of the executive

Financial Problems With Bad Debt Management
Bad debt management is at an all time high. More people are having more financial problems than
ever before. Bankruptcy is at an all time high. Financial stress is tearing families apart.
Many people think debt consolidation is the answer to all their financial problems. Just think... you get
one loan to pay off all your debts. Then, you only have to deal with one company and one payment.
You have to admit, it sounds very good.
However, getting a debt consolidation loan will not likely resolve existing financial problems until or
unless one learns how to manage their debts. Financial abuse can get out of control. It can become
additive just like drugs or alcohol. Often, financial mismanagement occurs because of lack of
understanding. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Women In Vietnamese History
I have always admired the women in Vietnamese history that stood up for the right of the country.
Although Vietnam has always been a paternal country ever since the beginning of time, there has been
many cases of women in dynasties before that fought for the independent like Hai Ba Trung sisters.
These women were inspirational to both my grandmother and me. Grandma was born to a middle
class family in Hue, the old capital of Vietnam before the Anti France Resistance War. She was
protective of her family even at a young age, my great grandfather, a kindergarten teacher, being taken
away by the French. She took care of both her siblings and brought food to jail everyday for her father.

Women had been involved in the war, for the most part, such as carrying and transporting heavy
weapons to the remote frontline, they also were imprisoned, tortured, murdered by the enemies. My
grandmother told me about the time where she could not be able to do anything about her friend s
situation. She was executed in front of my grandma for taking a stand against the French soldiers. It
imprinted on her mind of how cruelty the war were. The liberation force created programs for
educating women, liberating women, and making them warriors during the war. My grandmother was
one of the former youth volunteers in northern Vietnam. Her patriotism is the main reason she chose to
volunteer to go to war. A young woman at age 21 took to the jungle and joined the guerrilla struggle,
specializing in mixing acid, alcohol, and a few other ingredients to make gunpowder. She did tasks
that were meant for men, her empowerment and her knowledge got her to that position.. The liberation
of women in the resistance wars against the French and Americans are very positive mention. From
the anti French resistance war against the US through, millions of women were involved in the

The Pros And Cons Of The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War is one of the most controversial topics in American history, and even now it still
continues to be debated. With over three million deaths from the war, was it really worth it? From the
abominable outcome of this war, it is highly favorable that United States Troops should not have been
deployed to Vietnam due segregation it caused within the American country and resulting over 58,000
American deaths. As complex as this war may seem, this disputable conflict started earlier in spite of
what others might imagine. Vietnam is a southeastern Asian country that has been occupied by the
French since the early 19th Century. During War War II Japanese forces invaded Vietnam. In order for
the native Vietnamese to fight off both the French Colonial Administration and the invading Japanese,
political leader Ho Chi Minh inspired by Soviet Communism, established the League of Independence
of Vietnam. After Japan s defeat in World War II in 1945, the Japanese withdrew their forces from
Vietnam. The French educated Emperor Bao Dai was now back in control of Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh
saw this as an opportunity to finally gain control and almost immediately took control of the northern
city of Hanoi. Ho Chin Minh declared himself as president. In hopes to regain control of Hanoi,
France backed Emperor Bao and created the state of Vietnam in 1949. Although both sides wanted the
same goal of uniting Vietnam, their government views were drastically different. Ho and his followers
wanted the nation to be modeled after other communist countries. While Bao and his followers wanted
their country to be in close ties with democratic countries in the west. These causes led to a civil war
for the sole control of Vietnam.
The Vietnam War and active United States involvement in the war began in 1954, although the
ongoing conflict in the region had stretched back several decades. It wasn t until 1965 that President
Johnson, with the support of the general public, decided to deploy US combat forces to battle in
Vietnam. Eventually, 82,000 combat troops were stationed in Vietnam, and soon military leaders were
calling for 175,000 more men by the end of 1965 to help aid the struggling South Vietnamese army.

The Music Of The 20th Century
Have you ever partaken in piano or keyboard classes as a child, then this music piece should be
nothing new for you. It is one of the most famous but at the same time the most mysterious classical
masterpieces of the 18th century. It is Fur Elise ; a classical music piece composed by German
composer Ludwig van Beethoven. This piece of music was actually published in 1867, 40 years after
Beethoven passed away in the year of 1827. When Ludwig Nohl (a german music scholar) published
his piece, he uncovered the original manuscript for Fur Elise which was dated April 27th, 1810
(Fuld,241). This means the music piece was actually published 57 years after Beethoven first
composed it. Not only has this music piece been used to teach keyboard all around the world but a
famous American rapper by the name of Nas also used samples of this piece in his hit single I Can ,
and Gus Van Sant also used bits and pieces of this composition in his Elephant movie back in 2003.
The main reason I chose this music piece is that even though I haven t played a keyboard for over 2 to
3 years, the one piece of music that I will never forget how to play is Fur Elise , it s the first thing you
learn but the most memorable. The connection that I have with this piece is based on solely on the
way it sounds, but would knowing the history, and all of its musical features/techniques change the
way I react. Will it add value to my musical experience, or will everything just stay the same? That is

Factors Of Scooterino
The main political factor that would influence the success of Scooterino in a particular economy is
state regulations concerning ridesharing business. Specifically, the more regulations there are in a
given country targeted at a ridesharing business, the harder it will be to develop and sustain Scooterino
in that economy.
What is interesting in this analysis is that the four cities under consideration Berlin, London, Madrid
and Paris are, naturally, all parts of the EU political and legal framework. It is worth noting that one of
the biggest names in a ridesharing business Uber has faced considerably more obstacles on its rise to
prominence in Europe, compared to the United States, where it originated. As it appears, in Europe,
traditional modes of transportation business prove to be a bigger resistance towards ride sharing
business. . And in fact, currently there are undergoing discussions at the European Commission on the

One of the major factors deciding whether a ridesharing business will sustain in the long run is the
corruption level in a particular economy. Specifically, the higher the corruption level is, the easier it
would be for competing businesses to using various bribing schemes to enforce a ban on your
business. In the case of a ridesharing platform, the ban might be initiated in the interest of taxi
industry, and such cases are outlined further in the section dedicated to analysis of legal factors.
While there is no evidence to suggest that bans on ridesharing sector are caused solely by corrupt state
officials, in certain cases it is virtually to impossible to identify other reasons for restrictive legislative
acts. The more corrupt the particular state is, the easier it is for a particular lobbying company to
enforce legislative acts that would limit their competitors

Shutter Island Film Analysis
The following is written to examine a connection made between the varying texts using manipulation
and how it impacts the audience s perception of reality. The texts I will include which are evident of
manipulation are Shutter Island a visual thriller directed by Martin Scorsese, Inception a visual action,
adventure conducted by Christopher Nolan, Twelfth Night written by William Shakespeare, and Tell
Tale Heart produced by Edgar Allan Poe. I decided to choose texts that are recognized for their
brilliance. Both visual and written texts are contrasted in relation to time, the visual texts are of
modern era whereas the written texts are of a previous generation.

Towards the final scenes of the film, Daniels becomes increasingly aware of the impact he has made
on his society, hence the title Shutter Island//Shot her Island . Daniels realizes his guilt through the
way the characters have helped him to discover who he really is, Daniels is able to sum it up to the
audience through the dialogue Which would be worse: To live as a monster, or to die as a good man?
The audience is able to understand that Daniels has accepted his reality, making him the good man . A
common theme today is not accepting reality or being in denial, this is due to the way denying the
reality of something enables the body to cope (bodies defence mechanism1). The character of Daniels
helps to influence today s society by showing us that accepting the reality we create is better than to
regret or deny it. Thus, changing the way, we perceive reality.
In the film Inception , Nolan influences the audience to connect to the character of Dominic Cobb.
Like Shutter Island the character (Cobb) in this film is also revolved around. Nolan uses a theme
evident in today s society, the perception of reality to develop and connect the portrayal of Cobb and
connect the audience. In terms of Cobb, this theme can be translated to his internal conflict of dreams
versus reality. Nolan inflects an emotional connection to Cobb and the audience through this internal
conflict. A

Gender Role In Men And Women In The 1960 s
During the 1950 s 1960 s men and women followed strict gender roles that complied with society s
expectation at the time. Women played domestic roles in which it was implied they were only useful
in the kitchen and taking care of their husbands. Throughout this time period it was more important
for women marry a man than it was to attend college and be educated. Some women had college
degrees and still chose to be housewives. At the time even secondary schools prepared young girls for
this type of role; lessons were given in cookery, household management, darning, sewing and even
how to iron a shirt properly. Women were prepared to take on the housewife role both at school and at
home; housewives did not have a career so they depended on their husband. Sexism was rampant
during this era; the attitude carried over into advertising, which did little to advance gender roles and
ran advertisements that implied women were idiots who cared mostly about pleasing their men.
Advertisements often implied that women were only useful in kitchen, cooking and taking care of the
kids. Image A displays a women in the kitchen looking outside the kitchen window at her husband
with her daughter. The kitchen is portrayed with light white, yellow, and beige colors. The
advertisement has a caption placed at the bottom and it states, Women don t leave the kitchen! The
caption was the quote in a big font and then in a smaller font it talks about how a woman s place is in

Peripheral Intravenous Device Insertion Is The Most...
Peripheral intravenous device insertion is the most commonly performed invasive procedure in
hospitalized patients, with an estimated 150 million placed each year in North America alone
(Rickard, McCann, Munnings McGrail, 2010). They are important for maintaining hydration,
administering medications, providing blood and blood products and even nutrition to the patient, but
are not without their complications. These complications include thrombophlebitis, infiltration and
blood stream infection. Thrombophlebitis is among the most common complications of having
intravenous access. Symptoms of phlebitis include pain, redness, tenderness upon palpation, swelling
and warmth at the IV site and are all related to the inflammation of the vein (Uslusoy Mete, 2008).
Several studies were completed with the aim to determine predisposing factors that lead to a patient
developing phlebitis. The other research articles discussed looks at the acceptance of a policy that is
supposed to prevent phlebitis and other complications associated with IV access. Literature Review
Research by Pasalioglu Kaya (2008) looked at factors such as age, gender, number of catheterizations,
the size of the catheter, anatomical site of the IV, administration of antibiotics, the duration the
catheter remained in the vein, the cause of removal of IV and the level of phlebitis, if present, by
utilizing a pre determined staging key (Pasalioglu Kaya, 2008). Pasalioglu Kaya (2008) determined,

Sexual Fulfillment in Chopin s Awakening
Society keeps order, allows for advancement, and gives humanity a good face. It also imposes morals,
roles, and limits a person s potential development. If someone wishes to reach beyond what society
expects of them, they must cast aside social restrictions. Edna Pontellier, in Kate Chopin s The
Awakening, feels the urge to cast off the veil society burdens her with and live as she chooses to. The
driving factor behind her desire to awaken is her lack of sexual fulfillment. She lives her life following
conduct becoming of a woman who marries into the Creole elite of New Orleans. While her husband,

Robert presents himself as a solution to the lack of romantic love in Edna s life. A young, nice looking
man, he spends his summer devoted to Edna. She likes his attention and his adoring manner draws her
to him. As they spend more time together, he begins to sing her songs and recite romantic poetry. This
romantic aspect fills a void in her life. For the first time, she recognized the symptoms of infatuation
which she had felt incipiently as a child, as a girl in her early teens, and later as a young woman (45).
Robert gives her the picture perfect, model, swept off her feet in love romance that she direly needs.
However, he soon retires to Mexico for a business venture and leaves Edna to pine for him in his
absence. While he is gone, Edna thinks constantly of Robert and begs Mademoiselle Reisz to allow
her to read the letter Robert sends. Devastated, she finds no mention of her name in the letter. When
Robert finally returns, he pays little attention to her and again departs, telling her he is leaving because
he loves her. She writhed with a jealous pang. She wondered when he would come back. He had not
said he would come back. She had been with him, had heard his voice and touched his hand. But some
way he had seemed neared to her off there in Mexico (103). While Robert helped awaken Edna s
sexuality, he left her again, and she now knew the true joys and pains of

Edelman Leave No Child Behind Summary
People have different interpretations of what success may mean to them. In the article, Leave No
Child Behind by Marian Wright Edelman, the author explains many lessons on the steps to become
successful. According to some, success is measured by social status and wealth. I agree with Edelman
s lessons that there is no free lunch, we should not be afraid of taking risks or being criticized, and we
should never think that life is not worth living.
I agree that there is no such thing as free lunch. I notice there is nothing given to us without a price tag
on it. One time I remembered when I really wanted the new Barney rolling backpack. I told my
mother I wanted it. She told me that I would have to work for it, or else I would not receive it. There I
was, a little 8 year old girl, cleaning around the entire house. Edelman says, Don t feel entitled to
anything you don t sweat and struggle for. I agree with Edelman that if we do not put hard work and
sweat into wanting what we want, then we will not achieve it. In a related incident, which I ... Show

The Benefits of Cloning Essay
The Advantages of Cloning
The first successfully cloned mammal was created on February of 1997. It was a breakthrough in
scientific research when the Scottish scientists cloned a sheep by the name of Dolly. The method of
cloning requires the extraction of DNA from anywhere on a subject s body and inserting that DNA
into a woman s egg. Worldwide attention was turned to the prospect of human cloning and with a push
for sweeping prohibition (Tribe 459) legislatures around the world banned any research related to
cloning because of its nature. To get rid of cloning research would be very harmful and detrimental to
society. If cloning humans is allowed then it will benefit us all because of the medical advances and

A cloned person is just like a twin, only years apart. A cloned person has its own personality because it
is the environment and experiences that make the person. Any beliefs that clones are mindless human
beings are wrong. Many assume the worst that the worst could happen. People always assume the
worst, recall The Boys From Brazil, a story of identical offspring of Adolf Hitler being raised in order
to further his horrible work (Wilson 463). The prevailing belief that people will start cloning a master
race or clone Hitler is unrealistic. The cloning of humans will not depreciate humanity. Instead it will
be a bonus to mankind. Even if Hitler were to be cloned, it wouldn t mean that the clone would be like
or even succeed in continuing the original Hitler s plan.
Another concern and the strongest of the arguments that many have is that it goes against Gods will
(Wilson 463). Since reproduction through copulation is the norm everything that goes against that is
wrong, many assert. There was similar criticism of the aforementioned birth control pills and organ
transplant surgery but they have
gradually gained acceptance. When revolutionary advances occur there are always those who oppose
it because it disrupts the normality of things.
Another primary argument is the fact that as of now the cloning technology is too risky. Dolly was the
only lamb to emerge out of 277 attempts, and we still do not know how long she

The Importance Of Clinical Reasoning And Judgement In The...
Clinical Reasoning and Judgement in The Nursing Process
Critical thinking and clinical reasoning are essential skills to develop a sound clinical judgement.
Nurses use critical thinking models and processes to support and organize the interventions that they
perform in the clinical setting. In the scenario of Mr. Patient requesting for a Do Not Resuscitate order,
I used the nursing process to serve as the framework of the patient care and the Lasater s Clinical
Judgment Rubric by Kathie Lasater (2007) to guide my reflection. In this paper, I will describe the
skills that were used in relation to the nursing process, provide analysis of the model and application
of learning in terms of CNO competencies, and evaluate my clinical decision making in terms of
patient outcomes. While, the nursing process, served as a guide to organize my thought process in
relation to the overall picture of the patient, I also incorporated thinking structures such as ABC and
Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs to determine the prioritization in each activity. Furthermore, I utilized
the Structured Prebriefing Worksheet by Karin Page Cutrara (2015) to make inferences from the data
before engaging in the scenario.
Clinical Reasoning Skills in Scenario
The main clinical issue in the scenario is the need of a Do Not Resuscitate order by the client. In the
pre briefing process, I predicted that the patient needs medication to reduce his chronic pain related to
his previous medical history of prostate cancer and transurethral resection of prostate. Using the
nursing process, I am able to systematically assess and deliver appropriate interventions to the patient.
I prioritize his chronic pain over his feelings, based on the Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. As I
complete his physical assessment, I noticed that his pain level is the only variable that is out of the
normal limits. I examined his pain in detail using the PQRST pain assessment tool. I tried to look for
more gaps in my assessment when I inquire about his feelings in which I learned that patient would
like to have a DNR order.
In the planning phase, the health care team had a discussion about prioritization. On one hand, the
patient s pain level is eight out of ten that needed

During this adventure Oskar attempts to find closure and shows his true emotions. The title Extremely

Oskar s relationship with his father, as well as Oskar s emotional state during the film.

Disadvantages Of Books
It is time to be honest, these days who has the time to sit down with a book and read for hours and
hours. Sure, there is this nostalgic ideal of cozying up with a good book, drinking some tea, and
getting lost in a brand new world. However, this appealing scene isn t practical for most people. Most
people are too busy, and even if they found an hour or two; the time most likely won t be enjoyable.
To really enjoy and comprehend reading a book a person must be stress free and relaxed, but due to
the stress of an individual s life that can seem impossible. So, is humanity doomed to a future filled
with un intellectual people who know nothing of literature? The answer is no because there is a
solution that has been around for quite a while, but a lot of people don t take advantage of it. The
solution is audiobooks. With the rising use of technology in people s everyday lives one can see why
audiobooks are the next step in a reader s life. As a result, Audiobooks are a growing industry which
has clear benefits that physical books lack.
The most important factors when considering if one should read using audio books are the benefits to
one s comprehension of the content in said audiobook. Unlike other forms of entertainment like

Daisy Miller Essay
Daisy Miller by Henry James, is a study of a young American girl s rebuttal of all things proper and
refusal to conform to social standards. One can see that realism is apparent throughout the text. The
characters utilize free will throughout, are affected by their environment and familial relationships,
and ultimately make their own choices. These choices eventually affect the outcome in an unhappy
ending. Jame s creates characters that encompass both sides of the social sphere in this work.
Winterbourne, Mrs. Costello and Mrs. Walker are all individuals that come from old money, a higher
societal background, and expectations of what is deemed right and proper. In contrast, Daisy Miller,
Mrs. Miller, Randolph and Eugenio are the opposite in many ways coming from an average societal
realm and more realistic, modest lifestyle. Winterbourne has a rather telling conversation with Mrs.
Walker and her statement to him upon asking what exactly it is that Daisy does that pushes too far
sums up the overall reputation Daisy is establishing for herself. (she does) Everything that is not done
here. Flirting with any man she could pick up; sitting in corners with mysterious Italians; dancing all
the evening with the same partners; receiving visits at eleven o clock at night (James, p. 1537). Daisy s
ability to make her own choices and follow her free will are aspects of realism which writers began to
utilize. Again, her environment and family most definitely affect her behavior.

Theme Of Self Image In 12 Angry Men
Self image is a largely talked about issue. From negative to positive outlooks, it can be seen in most
magazines, heard on most talk shows, and is mentioned in almost every article on the internet. The
1957 MGM film Twelve Angry Men compels the characters in the film and the audiences to view their
own self image when making a decision on the guilt of an eighteen year old boy who is accused of
killing his father. By using logic, reflection, and attitude, the movie shows each of the characters to
review their views and beliefs and how they see themselves and others. During the film, logic was
required on everyone s part. They were deciding on an eighteen year old kid s life! It was not a
decision to be made quickly. Mr. Davis realizes this and is the only one to vote not guilty when taking
the first vote (Lumet). Logic came into play because Mr. Davis thought logically about all of the
evidence presented and because of this he felt that there was a reasonable doubt and could therefore,
not sentence the young man. Throughout the rest of the film, we see more of the men thinking
logically, for example, when Juror Nine realizes that the woman who claims she witnessed the murder,
wore glasses and would not have been able to clearly see the boy if she claimed to be laying in bed
trying to fall asleep. Another example is when juror number five, who grew up in the same area of
town that the defense did, shows the proper way of using a switchblade knife, making a logical

remaining a neutral country. Next are the American Loyalists, the ones whom remain faithful to
Britain throughout the American Revolution. During the revolution, there were the Loyalists and the
Patriots. Patriots were also known as the Revolutionaries. The Patriots or the Revolutionaries were
fighting against Britain and the crown for power of their own. They did not want to be under Britain s
reign nor let Britain have say so over anything they done. To intimidate the Loyalists, the Patriots did
terrible things. One of the few things that the Loyalists had to go through was tar and feathering . Tar
and feathering was the process where people are stripped naked, drenched in tar, then covered in
feathers. Whilst covered in this disgusting mixture they are to parade around town while being
mocked then having the feathers plucked off their naked bodies. Another way Loyalists were tortured
was not necessarily physically but they often had property seized and were under personal attacks
constantly. Personally, I feel for them because I know living through this must have been hell. On the
same token, they possibly should have considered remaining faithful to their country by moving back
rather than staying here to get harassed and killed. As for the remaining slaves owned by Loyalists
after the war they were freed by Britain they still did not

Of Identity And Diversity John Locke
In his essay Of Identity and Diversity, Locke talks about the importance of personal identity. The title
of his essay gives an idea of his view. Identity, according to Locke, is the memory and self
consciousness, and diversity is the faculty to transfer memories across bodies and souls. In order to
make his point more understandable, Locke defines man and person. Locke identifies a man as an
animal of a certain form and a person as a thinking intelligent being. Furthermore, to Locke, a person
has reasons and reflections and can consider itself as being itself in different times and places; and
he/she does it with his/her consciousness (429). Basically, personal self is a particular body and
personal identity is consciousness. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the one hand, if in the past one lived by acting in a
good way one hopes to be rewarded in the future. And on the other hand, if one lived by acting in a
bad way one fears to be punished in the future. For instance, John acted in a bad way when he was 20,
he committed war crimes; hence, he should expect to be punished for his actions. But Locke s analysis
is not that simple; according to his definition of personal identity, people should be held responsible
for their actions only if they remember doing those actions. Consequently, based on Locke s view,
John should not be punished for the war crimes he committed since he does not remember what he did
at 20. In this example, Locke does not punish John, who committed terrible war crimes, just because
he does not remember. Is Locke s judgment fair to people who committed the same crimes but
remember what they did? Or, is his judgment fair to the victim s families? Locke s judgment is only
based on whether or not the wrong doer remembers his actions; it does not take into account other
important elements; that is one of the reasons why Locke s theory about personal identity has been
criticized.
Locke s view on personal identity has strengths but it also has several weaknesses or limitations. One
important strength is when Locke states that a person should be held responsible for his/her actions if
he/she recalls doing those actions. In this case, the person

Charles Dickens And The Victorian Era
Charles Dickens and the Victorian Era The various themes and ideas of the Victorian era are perfectly
showcased in the many novels and short stories of Charles Dickens. The writers of the Victorian era
produced an enormous amount of the greatest novels to ever be written those that were realistic,
thickly plotted, crowded with characters, and long. They, more often than not, showed the
characteristics of the different social classes in society. Generally humorous, most books were targeted
to the middle, as they could relate to them the most easily. Dickens own works have extensive plots
woven throughout each of them, one in particular being that of Bleak House. That novel is considered
to be Dickens longest and contains a grand total of fifty characters, all of which are interconnected by
some standard. Its plot surrounds a mysterious murder and lawsuit. A large portion of Dickens
inspiration for his works came from his own childhood and adolescence. He was born Charles John
Huffam Dickens to parents John and Elizabeth on February 7, 1812. Charles was the second of their
eight children. As a child, the family employed two servants. One was named Mary Weller, and she
was instrumental in Charles life. She told him and his siblings made up stories, which she swore were
true, and thus stretched his imagination and fascination for storytelling. His father was employed as a
clerk in the

America s Orchestras Are In Crisis Analysis
In the article America s Orchestras are in Crisis , Kennicot underlines the fact that the American
orchestras have been undergoing a rough patch in the recent times. He uses the example of the
Schermerhorn Symphony Center, which in spite of the massive investment that was made its creation,
it has been accumulating debts and having a bleak future. This is also the case for Nashville
Symphony, which has been accumulating deficits to the tune of $10 to $20 million per year. This
shows an extremely bleak picture as far as the future of symphony orchestra is concerned. Indeed,
similar sentiments are expressed by Jennie Dorris in The Audition , where she gives the story of
Tetreault, a Colorado based percussionist who has put in 100 hour weeks ... Show more content on

This statement is pointing at the increased disconnect between the likes and preferences of the youth
population or rather the younger entrepreneurs and the ideas that are increasingly propagated by the
orchestra players. It should be noted that a large number of individual donors and institutional funders
are questioning the continued investment in orchestras, yet the musicians continue to build their hopes
on the efficiency of renewed fundraising efforts without considering the change or dynamic nature of
the feelings of younger generations regarding this type of music. In essence, the orchestra musicians
simply want to ignore their current need for gratification and instead pay attention to ideas that are
alien to them. This should point to what is already wrong with the orchestra world of music. Of
course, there are people who are attracted to it simply because it sets them apart from the masses who
would not feel at ease paying excessively for a type of music that does not offer gratification to their
immediate needs. However, a vast majority would only feel comfortable paying for music that appeals
to their souls. Essentially, it should be clear that the financial problems that are attributable to the

Mccloskey Cosmological Argument
To say that something is a proof one must understand that this something must have been tested and
with sufficient evidence, in order to produce a belief in its truth. An argument on the other hand is not
so. An argument can be a discussion involving differing points of view. Moreover, mainly an argument
is a person s attempt to persuade or present evidence from their point of view. Nevertheless,
McCloskey makes claims from arguments as though they are proofs. He then gives reasons as to why
these arguments are not adequate enough to be presented as proofs. But McCloskey has somehow in
his mind attempted to present arguments as proofs in order to validate his personal argument and push
his claims as opposition to the Cosmological and Teleological arguments. But these arguments were
not meant to be used as proofs of Gods existence but to merely shed insight and to persuade or
something one may consider as a basis for their belief. McCloskey does not allow himself to be
persuaded because he is considering these arguments as proofs which ... Show more content on

First and foremost, the cosmological argument does not necessarily make an argument for God s
existence. This particular argument leads us to a first cause. It is simply saying that everything that
exists needs a cause. According to Manis and Evans, God is not a contingent being. Atheists argue that
everything has a cause or an origin but if God had an Origin then he wouldn t be God. The
cosmological argument is not an end all prove all to the existence of God it is merely an argument that
pushes us to go deeper and to study God and the origin of the universe more intensively. McCloskey
attempts to dismiss this argument altogether but for the previous reasons mentioned he is misguided
when he states that the cosmological argument does not entitle us to postulate and all powerful, all

Short Summary Of Segu By Marys Conde
When Maryse Conde wrote the book Segu she tells what life would have been like at the point in
which slavery and Islam begin to take a hold on the African continent. It also shows the
implementations of it on life. Conde s description of Islam and Arabs throughout the story can be very
problematic view of society at that time for the reader.
There was confrontation between religion and culture on the African continent. There is an internal as
well as external struggle for the individuals in the story from religion and culture. When considering
slavery there had always been slavery of some sort throughout the African country. This would occur
when one clan conquered another and took some people as their spoils and to live in enslavement. The
culture of the native people is rather ritualistic and traditional. There are certain practices and
behaviors that appear to act as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Arabs are also portrayed as though they are not African or have no African identity. Instead just
being depicted as a temporary location for the Arabs to live in. The Arabic culture is also shown as
though it does not have culture instead the focus being religion and business. The Arabs are described
as though they see themselves better than everyone else; this can be depicted by this quote he had
hoped to be able to become part of the famous city, to make friends and connections there. But he
gradually came to see that this was impossible. The pride and arrogance of the scholars he came in
contact with ruled it out. A man had to be well born ...(Conde, 88). Although Tiekoro was muslim as
well he still was not accepted by the arabic community. Arabs are portrayed as snobbish. It has a sense
of foreshadowing that the Arabs will attempt to take over the continent and depriving the land. Even
the characters are shown as not having any type of compassion their only desire is to become wealthy

An Article On The Point Of Flashpoint
The Point of Flashpoint While searching for the right research topic for me, I took into consideration
everything I had written about in all of my essays before. From dogs to Walmart nothing seemed to
stick with me. Every topic I chose seemed to fall through within the first 5 minutes of brainstorming.
At first I wanted to write about cockatoos, which in hindsight was a poor decision on my part. Then I
thought about religion and was interested in the topic, unfortunately Logan was already writing about
Christianity and Buddhism. So once again I was left without a topic and nowhere to begin looking for
one. So while I was researching for topics I stumbled upon an article about the new season of the flash
on Netflix, and then it hit me! A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because his speed lets him stop criminals, Barry acquires enemies. Of which not all are completely
human and also have different abilities, these metahumans as they are called in the DC universe, push
Barry farther than he ever thought possible and unlock his true potential. In every battle he wins and
loses The Flash learns a new way to use his speed and save the day. The Flash is a very popular
superhero mainly because he can save so many people with just speed, however it isn t just speed. His
speed allows him to do so much more than just run fast. He can time travel, phase through objects and
walls, run up the side of a building, and even throw lightning. With all this knowledge I have learned,
there is also so much I have not.
What I want to Know After all the comics and tv shows that I have seen, I have never heard the origin
stories of the other three Flash s. Who were they? Did they all get their speed the same way as Barry?
In the comics, shows and films I have seen, it is never stated what The Flash s top speed is. So how
fast can The Flash actually go. Specifically is there a max speed that The Flash s body is able to go
before he can t physically accelerate anymore? The Flash used his speed to travel through time many
times in his existence to warn people of the future or save people in the past, but how does his speed
let him travel through time? With so many

Forensic And How It Helps Determine Child Abuse
Forensic Osteology of Child Abuse By: Heather Hogue ANTH328 101 11/26/2016 In my paper, I will
explain forensic osteology and how it helps determine child abuse. I will also explain different
cultures and situations where child abuse cases take place. I will describe where child abuse has taken
place even in ancient times. Lastly, I will explain the challenges of forensic osteology in determining
child abuse, what could be mistaken for it, and how it s properly analyzed. My first article is about
forensic radiology and how it determines unexplained head injuries in child mummies. Janet Davey
and Olaf H. Drummer explained that the identification of cause of death in ancient Egyptian child
mummies have changed since advanced visual workstations have produced more detailed virtual data
that allowed more accurate reporting on injuries and cause of death. They elaborated on the fact that
virtual images from computerized tomography (CT) data have revolutionized the study of ancient
mummified remains. It has also removed the need for destructive procedures linked to unwrapping of
bodies and has been used in a number of forensic pathology institutions. Forensic radiology protocols
were used in the study of two small child mummies from the human remains collection in a British
museum. They have been mummified and wrapped two thousand years ago. They explained that the
bodies presented unique problems in interpreting the radiological data due to external linen

  • 2. Human Predators Loc Truong Anthr 1A 10/4/2016 Analysis Assignment The topic that is most interesting to me is Rise of the Human Predator by Wong K. In addition, this article is simply foundered on the formation and development of human predator. It includes three separate parts which are Brave New World , Butchered Bones and Deep Impact . Each part has its own content about how our ancestors gradually becomes the most successful predator in the world. But it also points out an interesting nowadays reality, In our era of supermarkets and fast food, it is easy to forget that we humans are natural born hunters , but we were and we always are the most lethal predator on earths. Firstly, Brave The World contents the idea of an adaption of our predecessors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For decades experts have debated whether early Homo hunted or scavenged , there are many evidences but the one from The Kanjera is the solid one for hunting so far. Joseph Ferraro of Baylor University, Thomas W. Plummer of Queens College, C.U.N.Y., and their collaborators have unearthed thousands of stone tools and animal bones that were stripped of their flesh and marrow. They also find out most of the bones are from the little animals and carnivores, that lead them to the idea of the Hominins hunts and eats those themselves. By listing many of the evidences before ending with the evidence from The Kanjera and calling it the oldest solid evidence , the author answers the doubts inside the reader clearly, also, the evidence from Joseph and his collaborators is strong enough for Wong to convince the readers. By researching, the evidence determines if those little species are killed by large carnivores, they would have completely consumed the carcasses rather than leaving any tissue behind , as I read just to this point, this is not solid enough to convince me. But at the end of Butchered Bones , analyses of the tools from the site show that they were also processing plants, including tubers , then I totally agree and believe to what the author ... • 4. The Impact Of Technology On Evolution Of Knowledge There are many false claims in the science world that goes back and forth on their ideas and sometimes it s the public s choice to decide which fact is reliable. With research, it is shown that people believed what others thought were true without needing evidence to back up the claim. With new technology it became easier for the people to judge which claim is accurate due to the new science findings that supports that specific subject claim. Scientific facts are explained by evidence proven by multiple experiments that are tested by many other scientists. If a scientific claim is proven to be true, why is it that in some cases after years of studying the fact are re evaluated and proven to be false? To what extent does development of technology play a role in the evolution of knowledge? How do we know what scientific fact is reliable? When a new scientific theory or claim is made, the scientist tries to confirm it is the truth by using new technology to test out their idea. Some of the time, their old claim is outdated or falsified and they must admit they were wrong. Remember before 2006 people thought Pluto was the 9th planet from the sun? International Astronomical Union changed the status of Pluto by reclassifying as a dwarf planet because it did not meet the criteria of a planet. More significant claims have been made and many people are aware of some well known superseded scientific theories and wonder why they were believed to be true in the first place. A ... Designing an Orientation and Training Program Essay Designing an Orientation and Training Program By designing and implementing an orientation and training program, a company can expect to receive benefits. These benefits may include improved communications, knowledgeable employees, increased productivity, and improved employee satisfaction levels. This training could also have impact on employee retention, thus lowering turnover rates, which can cause a company valuable time and money. In designing these types of programs, a company should assess the needs of itself and employees. A training supervisor should have a classroom, within the administrative center of the business. They both can be very dangerous weather to drive in. but there are differences between the two and there are similarities. The similarities of driving in the winter and the summer is that they both have inclement weather that can be hard to drive in. That can cause it to be very dangerous on the roads. There are three common camps of thoughts on the matter of free will. Determinism and Libertarianism and Compatibilism. The argument is based on a crucial differences between the past and the future. Simply put, the future is a open for things to happen without our prior knowledge of what is to come. It is possible to look back at the past and reflect on what has happened but the same cannot be said for the future. We are able to influence what the past became but we cannot literally change the past even if we admit the possibility of time travel. The asymmetry between past and future is illustrated by the fact that we do not deliberate about what has happened but we do so about what is to come. One can certainly question about whether the past action that we have chosen is the best, but one can also both question what future acts would be best as well as which future action should be performed, making the future open in a way the past is not. When an individual is using free will, what is happening is that the person is given a range of different opinion and selecting the best course of action, each option is possible given the past and the laws of nature. • 8. Dr. Greg Forbes Dr. Greg Forbes What is a hero to you? According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, a hero is someone who is greatly admired for their qualities or actions. A hero does not have to be famous or have extraordinary powers. A new day brings a new hero and as times change, so does the hero. For the majority of people, a hero is a person who makes a difference with an insignificant action, but yet, it has a tremendous impact in their life. That hero in my life, is Dr. Greg Forbes. Greg Forbes was creative and open. Some call meteorology a guessing game, and not a science, so maybe he had to be creative to begin with. Working under the great Dr. Ted Fujita, Forbes expanded the Fujita scale to involve path and width along with Fujita s original wind speed determination of tornadoes. He also expanded the field of tornado research by examining the possibility of multi vortex tornadoes, helping confirm that hook echoes indicate tornadoes along with serving as the field manager of Project NIMROD, determining the effects of wind damage associated with downbursts and microbursts. Pain Essay Pain is defined as an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience that inevitably everyone in society will experience at some stage throughout his or her lifespan, and every individuals experience will differ from that of another s (Mac Lellan, 2006). This maybe due to any number of factors that can affect an individual, such as age, gender, emotional state, culture, or previous encounters with pain (Funnell, Koutoukidis, Lawrence, 2005). But regardless of the pains cause and site of origin, for most people pain is simply as stated before an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience (Mc Lellan, 2006). An experience that medical professionals like to define in much broader terms, one that states that Pain is whatever the patient says it is, existing wherever the experiencing person says it is (Farrell, 2005). This definition very much emphasises how subjective in nature the whole pain experience tends to be, because it relies not only totally on the patient s ability to self report on their level of pain being experienced, but also on how effective their pain management interventions have been (Farrell, 2005). This important tool known as a pain assessment not only aids in making a diagnosis of a patient s medical condition, it also gives medical staff a reliable indicator of the patient s location of pain, its quality and intensity, onset and duration, and any measures that help to relief it (Crisp Taylor, 2009). A failure to carry out such an assessment could result in not only in the patient suffering with unnecessary pain, but can also result in the patient experiencing symptoms such as stress, fatigue, insomnia, an inability to eat or mobilize, social isolation or depression (Crisp Taylor, 2009). • 10. A Research Study On Global Integration To start off, the first thing that comes to mind is to define what global integration is. I guess you can say it is another way of saying free trade throughout the world. Throughout my research I found that there was not any true definition of global integration. So to define global integration there is really only one way. Global is defined as of or relation to the whole world and integration is the action or process of integrating. To put the words together global integration is defined as the action or process of integrating to the whole world. That is the definition I came up with. Now in my research I found a definition that was suitable and it is the process by which a company combines different activities around the world so that they operate using the same methods. Now that there are different definitions that we can use, there are a couple of things that I found interesting about global integration. In this paper I will be discussing four things about global integration. These four items are the history, advantages, disadvantages, and just my opinion of if global integration is either good or bad. Hopefully throughout this paper you will learn many things that you did not know about global integration. The history of global integration goes back many years. How did people come up with this form of integrating? Who invented the term? Who was the first person to use this in the world? These are just some of the questions that are asked when you start ... The thought of it made me ache, I tried to ignore the feeling but it was nothing short of impossible, my campers are in danger. Lancelot is a knight serving under Arthur, but as he wants to serve his typical knightly duties and tells Arthur that I want to go on a quest. I want to find an adventure (ch. 6). Questing was very typical for knights, in order to prove their worth, and to achieve eternal glory. Book three centers around the story of Lancelot and his hero s journey, rather than Arthur s. Lancelot s character is equally as complex as Arthur s as both have their code of morals and loyalty to the other, but at the same time face challenges that make them question said loyalties. 18. She looked singularly lovely, not like a film star, but like a woman who had grown a soul (8, ). • 13. Tribal Sovereignty Controversy Tribal sovereignty is a highly debated concept and an important aspect of Native American society. It refers to a tribe s power to govern itself, manage its membership, and regulate tribal relations. As Joanna Barker stated, Sovereignty carries the awful stench of colonization. Tribal sovereignty must be traced to the beginning of colonization in North America. Colonizing nations asserted sovereignty over indigenous people and took away their independent status. The term tribal sovereignty carries with it multiples meanings and implications for tribal nations (Cobb, 2005). Amanda Cobb (2005) defines sovereignty as a nation s power to self govern, to determine its own way of life, and to live that life to whatever extent possible free from interference. If tribal sovereignty falls under Cobb s definition, Native American tribes in the United States are not completely sovereign, for some aspects of their lives are still under the control of the federal government. Tribal councils are still regarded as having tribal sovereignty, but they are limited by federal funding and authority. Sovereignty is a nation s relative independence from and among other states (Cobb, 2005). In this case, tribal sovereignty of Native nations depends upon recognition by the United States. This is ironic; their tribal sovereignty has been granted to them by the Unites States federal government. No single nation is completely independent of foreign influence. Tribal nations more so ... • 16. Judicial Reform Act 2005 Essay Judicial independence is the concept that the judiciary should be separate of the legislative and executive branches of government. It can be argued that to a moderate extent the Constitutional Reform Act 2005 and Courts and Crime Act 2013 do enforce and protect judicial independence. Evidence is provided within sections s.3 and s.7 of CRA 2005 along with the reforms introduced by the Act. Other acts such as the Act of Settlement 1701 also safeguards independence. Dame Mary Arden argued that judicial independence involved at least two things being the judge in any individual case being free to reach the decision which he or she considers to be in accordance with the law, free from any influence, and it means institutional independence meaning ... This enforces independence because it allows the Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice to handle complaints about discipline and conduct with the help of solely the Ombudsman meaning they are not being assisted by anyone else. The JACO also protects independence for this exact reason. One important amendment made by the Crime and Courts Act 2013 is that the Lord Chancellor s powers to accept, reject or ask for reconsideration of recommendations for judicial appointments below the High Court have been transferred to the Lord Chief Justice . This means the LC would then focus on the more senior judicial positions. As the LCJ is not a political executive this would enforce independence as the branches of government would continue to stay separate and allow judicial diversity, which was a goal of the JAC s . However, the Act of Settlement 1701 guarantees independence as it gives senior judges security of tenure, which means that their continued office is not dependent of the favour of the executive ... Although Vietnam has always been a paternal country ever since the beginning of time, there has been many cases of women in dynasties before that fought for the independent like Hai Ba Trung sisters. These women were inspirational to both my grandmother and me. Grandma was born to a middle class family in Hue, the old capital of Vietnam before the Anti France Resistance War. She was protective of her family even at a young age, my great grandfather, a kindergarten teacher, being taken away by the French. It imprinted on her mind of how cruelty the war were. The liberation force created programs for educating women, liberating women, and making them warriors during the war. My grandmother was one of the former youth volunteers in northern Vietnam. Her patriotism is the main reason she chose to volunteer to go to war. A young woman at age 21 took to the jungle and joined the guerrilla struggle, specializing in mixing acid, alcohol, and a few other ingredients to make gunpowder. She did tasks that were meant for men, her empowerment and her knowledge got her to that position.. • 22. The Pros And Cons Of The Vietnam War The Vietnam War is one of the most controversial topics in American history, and even now it still continues to be debated. With over three million deaths from the war, was it really worth it? From the abominable outcome of this war, it is highly favorable that United States Troops should not have been deployed to Vietnam due segregation it caused within the American country and resulting over 58,000 American deaths. As complex as this war may seem, this disputable conflict started earlier in spite of what others might imagine. Vietnam is a southeastern Asian country that has been occupied by the French since the early 19th Century. During War War II Japanese forces invaded Vietnam. In order for the native Vietnamese to fight off both the French Colonial Administration and the invading Japanese, political leader Ho Chi Minh inspired by Soviet Communism, established the League of Independence of Vietnam. After Japan s defeat in World War II in 1945, the Japanese withdrew their forces from Vietnam. The French educated Emperor Bao Dai was now back in control of Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh saw this as an opportunity to finally gain control and almost immediately took control of the northern city of Hanoi. Ho Chin Minh declared himself as president. In hopes to regain control of Hanoi, France backed Emperor Bao and created the state of Vietnam in 1949. Although both sides wanted the same goal of uniting Vietnam, their government views were drastically different. Ho and his followers wanted the nation to be modeled after other communist countries. While Bao and his followers wanted their country to be in close ties with democratic countries in the west. These causes led to a civil war for the sole control of Vietnam. The Vietnam War and active United States involvement in the war began in 1954, although the ongoing conflict in the region had stretched back several decades. It wasn t until 1965 that President Johnson, with the support of the general public, decided to deploy US combat forces to battle in Vietnam. Eventually, 82,000 combat troops were stationed in Vietnam, and soon military leaders were calling for 175,000 more men by the end of 1965 to help aid the struggling South Vietnamese army. It is one of the most famous but at the same time the most mysterious classical masterpieces of the 18th century. It is Fur Elise ; a classical music piece composed by German composer Ludwig van Beethoven. This piece of music was actually published in 1867, 40 years after Beethoven passed away in the year of 1827. When Ludwig Nohl (a german music scholar) published his piece, he uncovered the original manuscript for Fur Elise which was dated April 27th, 1810 (Fuld,241). This means the music piece was actually published 57 years after Beethoven first composed it. Not only has this music piece been used to teach keyboard all around the world but a famous American rapper by the name of Nas also used samples of this piece in his hit single I Can , and Gus Van Sant also used bits and pieces of this composition in his Elephant movie back in 2003. Throughout this time period it was more important for women marry a man than it was to attend college and be educated. Some women had college degrees and still chose to be housewives. At the time even secondary schools prepared young girls for this type of role; lessons were given in cookery, household management, darning, sewing and even how to iron a shirt properly. Women were prepared to take on the housewife role both at school and at home; housewives did not have a career so they depended on their husband. Clinical Reasoning and Judgement in The Nursing Process Critical thinking and clinical reasoning are essential skills to develop a sound clinical judgement. Nurses use critical thinking models and processes to support and organize the interventions that they perform in the clinical setting. In the scenario of Mr. Patient requesting for a Do Not Resuscitate order, I used the nursing process to serve as the framework of the patient care and the Lasater s Clinical Judgment Rubric by Kathie Lasater (2007) to guide my reflection. In this paper, I will describe the skills that were used in relation to the nursing process, provide analysis of the model and application of learning in terms of CNO competencies, and evaluate my clinical decision making in terms of patient outcomes. While, the nursing process, served as a guide to organize my thought process in relation to the overall picture of the patient, I also incorporated thinking structures such as ABC and Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs to determine the prioritization in each activity. Furthermore, I utilized the Structured Prebriefing Worksheet by Karin Page Cutrara (2015) to make inferences from the data before engaging in the scenario. Clinical Reasoning Skills in Scenario The main clinical issue in the scenario is the need of a Do Not Resuscitate order by the client. In the pre briefing process, I predicted that the patient needs medication to reduce his chronic pain related to his previous medical history of prostate cancer and transurethral resection of prostate. Using the nursing process, I am able to systematically assess and deliver appropriate interventions to the patient. I prioritize his chronic pain over his feelings, based on the Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. The Social and Political Influences Leading up to the First World War Romanticism began in the closing decades of the Eighteenth Century. Influencing all spheres of life, pervading the populace of Europe and the first half of the Nineteenth Century with idealistic, yet unreal sentiment. Contradicting any romantic or idealistic belief were the uniform followers of rationalism and conservatism, descendents of Puritanism that arose in the Church of England during the early 17th Century. The German writer E. T. A. Within the space of thirty years, Germany had gone from being a cluster of insignificant states to the most powerful state in Europe full of nationalistic sentiment, patriotic people and militaristic Kaisers. Little over a century ago Italy was divided into five main groups, all subject to political arrangements made by their foreign rulers. It took 21 years of resistance in the name of Irredentism, to oust the puppet Autocratic government. Liberal views were enough, Liberal views and the invasion of Austria(1848), and for a second time in 1859, the invasions were used in order to establish the nation, and to expel Austrian emigrants from northern Italy, the theme of unifying ones nation through military action has been exemplified again. Sure, there is this nostalgic ideal of cozying up with a good book, drinking some tea, and getting lost in a brand new world. However, this appealing scene isn t practical for most people. Most people are too busy, and even if they found an hour or two; the time most likely won t be enjoyable. • 39. Daisy Miller Essay Daisy Miller by Henry James, is a study of a young American girl s rebuttal of all things proper and refusal to conform to social standards. One can see that realism is apparent throughout the text. The characters utilize free will throughout, are affected by their environment and familial relationships, and ultimately make their own choices. These choices eventually affect the outcome in an unhappy ending. Jame s creates characters that encompass both sides of the social sphere in this work. Winterbourne, Mrs. Costello and Mrs. Walker are all individuals that come from old money, a higher societal background, and expectations of what is deemed right and proper. In contrast, Daisy Miller, Mrs. Miller, Randolph and Eugenio are the opposite in many ways coming from an average societal realm and more realistic, modest lifestyle. Winterbourne has a rather telling conversation with Mrs. Walker and her statement to him upon asking what exactly it is that Daisy does that pushes too far sums up the overall reputation Daisy is establishing for herself. (she does) Everything that is not done here. Flirting with any man she could pick up; sitting in corners with mysterious Italians; dancing all the evening with the same partners; receiving visits at eleven o clock at night (James, p. 1537). • 40. Theme Of Self Image In 12 Angry Men Self image is a largely talked about issue. From negative to positive outlooks, it can be seen in most magazines, heard on most talk shows, and is mentioned in almost every article on the internet. The 1957 MGM film Twelve Angry Men compels the characters in the film and the audiences to view their own self image when making a decision on the guilt of an eighteen year old boy who is accused of killing his father. By using logic, reflection, and attitude, the movie shows each of the characters to review their views and beliefs and how they see themselves and others. During the film, logic was required on everyone s part. They were deciding on an eighteen year old kid s life! It was not a decision to be made quickly. Mr. Davis realizes this and is the only one to vote not guilty when taking the first vote (Lumet). Logic came into play because Mr. Davis thought logically about all of the evidence presented and because of this he felt that there was a reasonable doubt and could therefore, not sentence the young man. Throughout the rest of the film, we see more of the men thinking logically, for example, when Juror Nine realizes that the woman who claims she witnessed the murder, wore glasses and would not have been able to clearly see the boy if she claimed to be laying in bed trying to fall asleep. Another example is when juror number five, who grew up in the same area of town that the defense did, shows the proper way of using a switchblade knife, making a logical ... Then, in 1774 Parliament was passing laws and placing taxes upon the colonists which they did not agree with. They did not want to be under Britain s reign nor let Britain have say so over anything they done. To intimidate the Loyalists, the Patriots did terrible things. One of the few things that the Loyalists had to go through was tar and feathering . Tar and feathering was the process where people are stripped naked, drenched in tar, then covered in feathers. Whilst covered in this disgusting mixture they are to parade around town while being mocked then having the feathers plucked off their naked bodies. Another way Loyalists were tortured was not necessarily physically but they often had property seized and were under personal attacks constantly. Personally, I feel for them because I know living through this must have been hell. Identity, according to Locke, is the memory and self consciousness, and diversity is the faculty to transfer memories across bodies and souls. In order to make his point more understandable, Locke defines man and person. Locke identifies a man as an animal of a certain form and a person as a thinking intelligent being. Furthermore, to Locke, a person has reasons and reflections and can consider itself as being itself in different times and places; and he/she does it with his/her consciousness (429). On the one hand, if in the past one lived by acting in a good way one hopes to be rewarded in the future. And on the other hand, if one lived by acting in a bad way one fears to be punished in the future. For instance, John acted in a bad way when he was 20, he committed war crimes; hence, he should expect to be punished for his actions. But Locke s analysis is not that simple; according to his definition of personal identity, people should be held responsible for their actions only if they remember doing those actions. Consequently, based on Locke s view, John should not be punished for the war crimes he committed since he does not remember what he did at 20. In this example, Locke does not punish John, who committed terrible war crimes, just because he does not remember. Is Locke s judgment fair to people who committed the same crimes but remember what they did? Or, is his judgment fair to the victim s families? Locke s judgment is only based on whether or not the wrong doer remembers his actions; it does not take into account other important elements; that is one of the reasons why Locke s theory about personal identity has been criticized. Locke s view on personal identity has strengths but it also has several weaknesses or limitations. One important strength is when Locke states that a person should be held responsible for his/her actions if he/she recalls doing those actions. In this case, the person ... • 45. Charles Dickens And The Victorian Era Charles Dickens and the Victorian Era The various themes and ideas of the Victorian era are perfectly showcased in the many novels and short stories of Charles Dickens. The writers of the Victorian era produced an enormous amount of the greatest novels to ever be written those that were realistic, thickly plotted, crowded with characters, and long. They, more often than not, showed the characteristics of the different social classes in society. Generally humorous, most books were targeted to the middle, as they could relate to them the most easily. Dickens own works have extensive plots woven throughout each of them, one in particular being that of Bleak House. That novel is considered to be Dickens longest and contains a grand total of fifty characters, all of which are interconnected by some standard. Its plot surrounds a mysterious murder and lawsuit. A large portion of Dickens inspiration for his works came from his own childhood and adolescence. He was born Charles John Huffam Dickens to parents John and Elizabeth on February 7, 1812. Charles was the second of their eight children. As a child, the family employed two servants. One was named Mary Weller, and she was instrumental in Charles life. She told him and his siblings made up stories, which she swore were true, and thus stretched his imagination and fascination for storytelling. His father was employed as a clerk in the ... This is also the case for Nashville Symphony, which has been accumulating deficits to the tune of $10 to $20 million per year. This statement is pointing at the increased disconnect between the likes and preferences of the youth population or rather the younger entrepreneurs and the ideas that are increasingly propagated by the orchestra players. In essence, the orchestra musicians simply want to ignore their current need for gratification and instead pay attention to ideas that are alien to them. This should point to what is already wrong with the orchestra world of music. Of course, there are people who are attracted to it simply because it sets them apart from the masses who would not feel at ease paying excessively for a type of music that does not offer gratification to their immediate needs. Moreover, mainly an argument is a person s attempt to persuade or present evidence from their point of view. Nevertheless, McCloskey makes claims from arguments as though they are proofs.
