Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
One famous example of pollution is the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. It happened in the Gulf of
Mexico and it is the largest oil spill in United States history. It was caused by a BP oil well
explosion. This was said to have happened because the managers misread pressure information
and replaced drilling fluid with ocean water. According to the co chair there was not a culture of
safety on that rig . The oil spill was discovered April 22, 2010. It is still not entirely cleaned up.
The polluted water contained 40% Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) than most oil spills.
PAHs are carcinogens found in fossil fuels, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill contained 35% more
methane than the 5% average. These toxins can cause irregular heartbeats leading

Roman Water System Essay
During the ancient Roman time period, there was a problem towards water. The Romans used
water every day in fountains and for recreational uses. But how could this water be transported for
everyday use and then how was the water to be disposed of? The Romans managed to find the
solution to these problems. They used the idea of the aqueductto transfer the water from sprigs to
Rome. Once the water was in Rome, it went right to use, either by sending the water directly to a
bathhouse to be heated up by a hypocaust, or to a fountain to be seen by all the people of Rome.
The water would then be disposed of and travel to the sewer system where it was disposed of. But
how did these revolutionary water systems work and what good did they bring to... Show more

The sewer system would collect water from baths, latrines (a public pay toilet), palaces, fountain,
and other urban runoff (Hasan). From here, the sewers would flow through town to either the
nearest river or to out onto fields for irrigating and fertilizing soil (Wikander 176, 655). However
not every Roman citizen could afford the cost of a bath or bathroom in their house, so they
would be forced to either use a latrine or a chamber pot (Hasan). A latrine was a public pay toilet
and a chamber pot was a pot where bodily excretions went (Hasan). The chamber pot became a
problem as most people became too lazy to properly empty them, so they dumped the chamber
pot out of the window. With this problem rising, the Romans decided to use an open sewer
system as well with the regular sewer system (Wikander 168). The open sewer system is exactly
how it sounds, it s an open sewer where sewage runs through town to the nearest disposal sight.
This helped with the disposal of the chamber buckets. Later an emperor named Vespasian came up
with the idea to collect all the urine (Hasan). Vespasian had discovered that the ammonia in urine
had cleaning properties, so he collected the urine to wash clothes

Jury Duty In Canada s Jury System
In Canada, jurors are poorly paid and most of the times, jurors suffer from personal hardship. In
Ontario, A juror gets virtually no payment for the first 10 days of work and $50/day for the next
39 days and $100 a day after that. What s more, the jurors are expected to cough up money for
parking. Add to it, the price of gas, the daily trip to the courthouse can be really expensive for a
long trial. ( Opinion | EDITORIAL: Juryduty is legalized theft , 2011) Individuals fortunate
enough to work for an employer with generous welfares might receive their regular salaries, but
most jurors get nothing more than a promise that their job will be there when they come back to
work at the end of the trial. (Stastna, 2012) Such minor payment places an unfair burden on the
people who have to serve on juries and is a significant limitation of Canada s jury system.... Show

( Opinion | EDITORIAL: Jury duty is legalized theft , 2011) Every week across the country,
thousands of Canadians receive a summons to appear in a court to perform jury duty. Every
week, judges give intense speeches to the gathered displeased panel of prospective jurors to
persuade them that serving on a jury is their civic duty, that they should be willing to give up
their salary, to be part of the justice system. (Stastna, 2012) This situation has been in place for
decades. Trial by jury is a fundamental part of our justice system. But it should not be functioned
in a way that penalizes the jurors. Every year, people who are convicted of a crime receives
millions of dollars for legal aid lawyers, but a little is given to taxpaying Canadians who sit on

Canada s Healthcare System Of Canada Essay
Canada s Healthcare Several countries are unique in their own individual ways. One reason that
makes Canada so unique is their healthcare system. Many have no knowledge of how the
healthcare system works, especially in the United States. Each state has its own healthcare system
and works by their own rules and laws. One thing which separates Canada with these other states is
the cost, the structure and the ratios they have. When people think about healthcare, you get a little
bit of both sides. You get the group of people who cannot afford healthcare, and the other group
who not only have the income to pay for their healthcare but those who have their private doctors.
Many people do not see this as an issue, however they do not even care at the fact that they do not
even have any type of healthcare. From generation to generation, there have been several changes in
the healthindustry. This industry is a trillion dollar a year industry which still needs more work.
In my report I will explain and educate as to why I believe Canada s healthcare system is not
only such a great organized system but also how they manage to keep their infant mortality rate
so low as well as the average life expectancy increase. I will also discuss how the population and
health status have an impact in Canada. Following these topics I will discuss, the laws and
regulations which Canada has to enforce these types of services as well as private and public health
insurances that Canada

Reliability Is Defined, Within Psychometric Testing
Reliability is defined, within psychometric testing, as the stability of a research study or
measure(s). Reliability can be examined externally, Inter rater and Test Retest, as well as
internally; which is seen in internal consistency reliability methods. It s best to establish inter
rater reliability outside of the context of the study s measure. If the reliability is incorporated in
the measure and is extremely low, this can cause serious issues for the researchers going
forward. It is highly recommended that a pilot study be done to establish the inter rater
reliability. It is also a good idea to periodically assess the inter rater reliability if the study will be
conducted for an extensive amount of time. There is a difference in how to assess categorical
versus continuous measures inter rater reliability. If the measure is a compilation of categories,
then the researchers could have the raters mark each category that is applicable to the observations.
From those selections, the research team should calculate the percentage of agreement among the
raters. However, the research team could also calculate Cohen s Kappa, for a more stable
percentage. Cohen s Kappa Cohen s Kappa states: where Pr(a) is the observed agreement among
raters, and Pr(e) is the conjectural likelihood of chance agreement, using the observed data to
calculate the probabilities of the raters hypothetically choosing each category. With this calculation,
if the raters are in complete agreement then

485 Forensic Law Midterm Exam Essay
JUS 485 Midterm Exam
Answer the following questions, which are based upon the first four modules of the course.
1. Explain why it is that evidence gained through the forensic science process is almost always
considered to be circumstantial evidence.
The most important fact that makes forensic evidence circumstantial is because science cannot be
clearly defined by law. The legal system have created standards and written legal rules regarding
the admissibility of forensic evidence. When forensic evidence that is presented in court is rarely
unaccompanied by an expert witness to provide the court room with a professional explanation
backing the reliability of the forensic process used to collect the relevant evidence. This is one the

Expert witnesses are used by attorneys to give professional opinion and explanation of
information that the common individual would otherwise have no understanding of. Searching
the web I discovered SEAK a website devoted to compiling information on expert witness. All of
the expert witnesses listed on the site have been previously used in cases to provide testimony to
specific evidence that is within the parameters of their expertise and professional credentials. Jill
Kessler Miller is a great example of a specific expert witness. Jill resides in Southern California and
is an expert in forensic science and dogs. She has testified in nine trials over the past four years.
She has had over twenty five years of experience with training dogs. She has a college degree in
English and a graduate certification in Animal Policy Advocacy. The site also lists the multiple
specific topics she gives testimony to. This is a great example of an expert witness because she
lists are her professional credentials and specific fields that she will testify about in court. Dog
bites and veterinary forensics are her direct links to forensic evidence.
An expert witness s expertise, training and special knowledge of a subject allows them to be give

Regardless, an expert witness s opinion must be unbiased and bases solely on their special
knowledge, train, and expertise in the field. The

Social Dominance Theory
A major point of social dominance theory is that all humans belong to various groups. There are
powerful groups that provide status and authority and there are powerless groups as children that
are easy targets of violence. Some adults sexually abuse a child to feel the power and control they
don t feel in their relationships with other adults. Sometimes, adults who have intimate sexual
relationships with other adults may sexually abuse children in moments of unusual stress. Other
adults are primarily sexually attracted to children and act impulsively when presented with an
unexpected opportunity to sexually abuse a child. Each person who sexually abuses a child is
motivated by issues unique to that individual. Some adults who sexually abuse children recognize
that it is wrong and are deeply repentant. Other adults believe their behavior is okay and that what
they do shows their love for children. b.Psychological Explanation:... Show more content on

There is no single profile that accurately describes or accounts for all child molesters. There are
many variables among individuals in terms of their personal characteristics, life experiences,
criminal histories, and reasons for committing such offenses. One common misconception is that
molested children grow up to become child molesters themselves. Most adults who sexually use
or abuse children were, during their own childhoods, abandoned, abused sexually, physically, and
/or emotionally. In reaction to those experiences of abuse, neglect, betrayal and powerlessness,
they may have attempted to find feelings of power and control over others including sexual power
over children. Some people who sexually use or abuse children have high social status in a group

Compare And Contrast The Tzar And Trotsky
The Enemy of my Enemy
The premise of the Russian Revolution was to achieve economic and political equality through
Marxism, but were the Revolutionaries successful in eliminating class warfare and a hierarchical
system? Marxist theory states that revolution is a natural process of social classes being
oppressed and their desire to overcome this oppression, but in the process of overcoming their
oppression, they will, in turn, oppress other social classes. This natural process of revolution would
eventually lead to socialism, or economic equality, where there will be no hierarchical system.
Social class warfare and a steep hierarchical system are prominent in autocratic governments, such
as the Russian Tzarist regime. Trotsky s The Tzar and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When enemies join forces and defeat a larger, common enemy, the fact remains that they will
resume fighting when they have defeated the common enemy. The common enemy, in this case,
was the autocratic Tzarist regime and the enemies that allied were the Bolsheviks and non
Bolsheviks, which include fellow Marxists and capitalists. The toppling of the [Tzar] did not in
itself bring the hoped for democratic freedoms for women. The dual authorities, the Soviets and
the Provisional Government, that emerged with the end of autocracy both temporized on women
s suffrage. (Ruthchild, 240). This shows that problems continued even after the Tzarist regime
ended. The dual powers disappointed many and resulted in the Russian Civil War. The
Bolshevik Revolution is perceived to be a proletariat socialist revolution but it was far from
creating equality. It was another group seeking to oppress as they have been oppressed. Although
there were many instances where the Revolution had brought together groups of people with
differing political views and social standings, Lenin s party, [the Bolsheviks in power,] would not
give up power even if it lost working class support...a socialist party taking power prematurely
would find itself isolated and forced into repressive dictatorship (Fitzpatrick, 67). The Bolshevik

Essay about The Effectiveness of the Takamine Guitar...
The Effectiveness of the Takamine Guitar Advertisement
The Takamine guitar advert can be viewed as an effective piece of media in an array of different
ways. The ways used play on a very unconventional style, which is not often used for a musical
instrument. For example most guitar advertisements would use such images as a lead guitarist of a
band standing tall whilst making his guitar scream out whilst he is backed by a huge amp or some
such and the other.
The first thing that this advertising piece has you drawn to is its picture, although on first sight you

The background of the image is distorted and blurred so as to show exactly where you should be
looking and so draws the attention to the couple and the guitar. Although, the guitar may be key to
this picture but the headstock that holds the company brand name is off the view of the lens, this
could have been a clever ploy as to make the viewer read on and find out what the brand is.
It is always an awfully easy thing to sell a guitar over any other instrument as it is a very
glamorous instrument (unlike a bass) and so the people used are also very young and attractive in
themselves. This gives a sense of youth to the company and would make them much more
appealing to a buyer, especially a first time buyer.
Now onto the text: the text used in this piece is very peculiar indeed and for the most of it the
idea of the guitar has shifted onto that of a partnering agency. Many of the words used such as
partner , right for you and wonderful cast up totally different thoughts from that of a guitar and this
is where the adverts key selling point really delivers.
It leads on in such a way that you must read on to understand what is actually going on in the
advert and leaves you in complete shock at the end when they refer you to go to Your local

Theory of Demographic Transition Essay
The Theory of Demographic Transition
Demography is the study of the components of population variation and change. Death rate and
birth rate are two determinants of population change. Theory of Demographic Transition is
comparatively recent theory that has been accepted by several scholars throughout the world. This
theory embraces the observation that all countries in the world go through different stages in the
growth of population. A nation s economy and level of development is directly related to that
nation s birth and death rates. Population history can be divided into different stages. Some of the
scholars have divided it into three and some scholars have divided it into five stages. These stages
or classifications demonstrate a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the death rate exceeds the birth rate, which triggers the population increasing very slowly or
almost stable. In this stage, birth rate becomes high due to less use of contraception and
sterilization. Most of the people do survive in agriculture where the children are considered as
economic assets and so people are encouraged to get many children. Similarly death rate
becomes high due to diseases, natural calamities, wars, etc. Infant death rate is also found very
high. Because of poor health facilities provided by the state to the people, lack of clean water
and sanitation and food shortage, health of the people will be weak so that the people will depart
the life in high numbers. Before 1920, China and India were at this stage (Raj, H. 2003). This stage
is generally found in the countries where people depend on agriculture as a main source of
surviving. At present, the countries like Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Angola, etc. are passing
through this stage (Raj, H.2003)
The Early Expanding Stage:
This is the second stage of the Theory of Demographic Transition. In this stage, birth rate does not
come down from the High Stationary Stage but death rate gets very much declined, which triggers
very rapid growth in the population change. In this stage, the nation provides the better public
health services to the people so that the people will not depart from the life so rapidly, and the
declining in infant

Typically, where I would love to find and highlight all of the negative things about the Airius
products vs. ours, there is truly only one, which I will point out later. However, there are a few

of insurance sales professionals: Insurance Managing General Agents, Insurance Brokers, and
Insurance Agents. The Insurance Managing General Agent is defined legally as an individual or
business entity appointed by an insurer to solicit applications from agents for insurance contracts
or to negotiate insurance contracts on behalf of an insurer and, if authorized to do so by an
insurer, to effectuate and countersign insurance contracts. (Commission) An Insurance Broker can

than the pure administrative duty of the agent. (Boop) Brokers normally charge an administrative

Essay about Gene s Coming of Age in A Separate Peace
Gene s Coming of Age in A Separate Peace
The novel, A Separate Peace, by John Knowles, is the coming of age story of Gene Forrester.
This novel is a flashback to the year 1943, when Gene is attending Devon School during his
senior year and the summer before it. Gene s youth and inexperience make him ill equipped to
deal with situations that require maturity (Overview: A Separate Peace 2). However, Gene is a
follower of Finny and therefore gains experiences that provoke his development into adulthood.
Some of these experiences include: breaking Finny s leg, training for the 1944 Olympics, and
killing Finny. Through these three experiences Gene is forced to grow out of his childish self and
become a man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gene becomes more disciplined and athletically inclined. He is undertaking circumstances that he
knows will never come true, the 1944 Olympics, yet making the best of them to please his best
friend. Gene is learning to do things although he does not want to do and that have no purpose.
This is a difficult task for an immature child; however, through Gene s ability to train for the
inexistent Olympics, shows that he is growing up. He looks at his training as if he were preparing
for the war. Accepting that he must go to war is also another sign of maturity brought on by the
training for the Olympics with Finny. Through his preparation for the Olympics, Gene s coming of
age becomes more and more evident.
Finny s death causes the greatest maturity growth in Gene s character. After Finny dies, he
realized how his own hatred caused the death of his best friend. He came to understand Finny s
innocence and purity which causes Gene to see flaws within himself and forces him to grow up
(Alton 1). Being able to admit your own flaws is critical in maturing. When Gene finally sees his
impact of immature behavior, he realizes how much he needs to mature. Even though Finny is
physically gone, his spirit remains with Gene and essentially makes him the adult that he grows
up to be. Finny s death is a crucial part of Gene s coming of age. When Finny dies, Gene s
immature behaviors also die. Because Gene s hatred was gone, he entered war as a man.

President Bill Clinton said `A preemptive action today, however well justified, may come back

My Experience In My Family
The environment in which I was raised was very thrilling. My family and close friends have had
such an impact on my life and I ll always be so grateful for them. They are very encouraging and
always keep an open mind. I ve learned so much within my seventeen years of life. As I ve been
growing up they ve helped me realize that It s okay if it s not right just keep moving and don t
take the melancholy parts of life too hard, always learn to be and have a sanguine attitude. They
re always proud of me no matter what I do or who I am. Growing up it was a must to have a
celebration no matter where or what it was. Every weekend my dad would go outside and blast
music up until two or three in the morning. He always told me that life is kind of like a party so
I need to learn to enjoy it. These celebrations meant so much to me because we d always end up
having hearty profound conversations. We d always talk about how either he s so proud of me or
he share stories of his childhood and tell me i m doing what he can t. I think that s why it means
so much to me because the fact that I m making my parents proud and doing what they can t means
the world to the both of us and I feel honored that, that s what I m doing. Just last night I told my
parents that I was thinking about enlisting into the Air Force. In my head I thought that they d be
taken aback and startled by me even thinking about it but, their reaction was completely different
than what I expected. Both, my mom and dad,

How Does Edgar Allan Poe Use Imagery
When reading a novel I often get engaged by the amount of detail the author includes. I find
myself most interested when I can picture myself in the character s shoes and feel like i m in the
novel myself. This kind of feeling is caused by imagery. Imagery is defined as the use of vivid
figurative language to represent objects, actions or ideas. Authors tend to use imagery to create a
mental image in the audience s head. This is often done with the use of your senses. Incorporating
details about touch, taste, or smell often gives the audience a specific idea of what the author is
trying to portray. Imagery is important in all literature but was especially prominent during the
romantic era. Edgar allan poe was a poet of the Romantic era who relied strongly on imagery to
portray his emotion. Poe had a difficult upbringing and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poe wrote this poem in 1829 at the age of twenty, however it did not get published until 1875
long after his death. Poe begins this poem with the first stanza that reads From childhood s hour
I have not been as others were; I have not seen as others saw; I could not bring my passions from
a common spring In that first stanza Poe expresses that growing up he felt different from the others
kids. He conveys that the things that made the other kids happy were not the same things that
fulfilled his happiness. Poe explains that he never viewed life the same as other people and that
there was something special about him and the way he thinks. The line And all I loved I loved
alone reiterates that through the good and bad times he remained the same. This is justified with
the line from the depth of good and ill . This signifies that his opinion was never changed by others .

Powerpoint Business Cycle
The PowerPoint is going to talk about the basic economic cycle and how it relates to the market
The business cycle will also be discussed and the impact it has on employment, the market, the
inflation as well as demand and supply.
The stock market cycle and its relationship to the economic or business cycle will be discussed.
The business cycle is a cycle the economy goes through every 7 to 10 years.
It is very unpredictable due to constant change in the market. Each stage of the cycle differs on
length of time based on market and outside factors.

Comparing Aquinas, And Paley s Natural Theology
A watch embodies all appearances of intelligent design. It has purpose, a certain disposition or
instruction. It is a complex object; all parts are needed for it to fulfil its purpose and we could not
substitute any of these parts. It is made of a specific set of materials; we do not find smelted gold
or blown glass naturally occurring in nature. The watchalso has a regular motion. All these
properties and dispositions a watch personifies show it is a creation and not just a naturally
occurring object. The same is said about the human eye through analogy. This is the reason William
Paleychose to use the watch as well as the human eye to highlight his argument for design in his
work Natural Theology, (1802). The teleological argument he puts forth is one we can know
empirically through observation. It is not the purpose of the argument to fully convince us that the
argument is correct in every way. The purpose is to offer the audience a logical and suggestible
conclusion. However the argument... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He argues that what we see within nature always acts towards an end. He goes on to explain things
in nature achieve their end, not fortuitously but designedly Although the end things achieve may
not be seen as purpose it can be a cause for acting in a certain way.
This is where the idea of creating objects to fulfill purposes becomes blurred. A reasonable
comparison would be to fill up a glass with water and then have the water amazed at the fact the
glass has been made to fit it perfectly, when in fact it could be no other way. This is an example
of a weak anthropic argument. If such a thing as the universe was different in any of way we
would not be around to know about it. We are left to inhabit the only known universe able to exist.
Maybe it is the human race which has adapted for the universe, not the other way around, as the
human eye has been finely tuned for

Joseph as well as Esther, Mordecai, and Daniel all rose to a position of power in a foreign
government. Joseph was his father Jacob s favorite son, just as Ahasuerus loved Esther more than
all of the other women who wanted to be Queen. Daniel also was the favorite of King Baltassar.

Bless Me Ultima
Topic #2
Abid Ahmad
Abid Ahmad #1 An essential part of someone s life is a place where they are left alone with their
own thoughts, not being judged by anyone or anything outside of them. In many cases, this sense of
safety can only be found within themselves, because their world is being torn apart by outside
influences that have little regard for their own perspective. Similarly, this is ever present with
Antonio and his family in the book Bless Me Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. In almost every aspect ,
Antonio s family persistently attempts to influence him to their own accord, with even his brothers
becoming distant memories that left him and expecting him to fulfill his parents antithetical wishes.

While his mom argued it would be best for him to become a Luna and be connected to the Earth,
his father s side argued that the Marez blood inside of him would compel him to become a
vaquero, free to roam the grassy plains and not being shackled by anything. His dream
encapsulated the idea of his thinking and identity being imposed on him literally from birth. A
child s mind is like clay that can be molded in an infinite amount of directions. The absolutely
worst thing a person could do to this flower of growth is to put it in a box that restricts it from
germinating on its own. The only saving grace that Tonie found in this dream was Ultima, who
eloquently scolded both sides of the family in saying that only she knows what Antonio will
become in life. This concept of Antonio s parents tearing him apart from either side and Ultima
giving him the peace of mind of his own critical thinking is a recurring theme. As Antonio s mother
and father were simultaneously attempting to pull him to completely opposite shores of happiness,
they created a chasm of uncertainty that Antonio had become very susceptible to crashing through.
Unfortunately, the people furthest away from Antonio only increased the pressure on his
shoulders. Antonio had a deep admiration for all three of his brothers that went off to war.Since
his brothers were gone for so long, they are portrayed as distant characters that were always so far

My Favorite Students
All it takes is seven seconds to completely assess and categorize a person you ve barely met. This
has happened to everyone, especially as a student. Small visual clues such as one s expression, their
race, gender, demeanor, and clothing, set the precedent for how the teacher will view their students
from the beginning of the school year to the last day. Most favoritism teachers dole out is
subconscious. The reason they may gravitate towards and dote on particular kids could stem from
the initial assessment they made or even bias. Humans tend to gravitate towards others similar to
them. While there is the belief that teachers playing favourites is natural, necessary, and
unavoidable, this behavior is harmful to the student, harmful to their peers, and is often completely
irrational. To begin, the mindset of having a favourite student is harmful to the subject. When kids
are given special treatment, especially at a young age, things can begin to go wrong. The teacher
can excuse misdemeanors that would otherwise be punished. This leads the student to either
believe that they re above rule following and will likely do it again, or become overly sensitized
to criticism and correction. A year of consistent praise and good feedback is also dangerous. The
student may set their standards higher than is realistic, and become disheartened whenever they re
awarded a grade lower than their impossible standards. From nda.org, Mary Beth Solano,

The Unattainable American Dream
When the phrase American Dream is uttered, it is typically associated with having money or
striving to have money. The dream of much of the public is to have money and to be able to
purchase anything they desire whenever they want. For some, this dream is not about money, but it
is about having the opportunity to better his or herself and his or her loved ones. In either case,
there are certain circumstances and obstacles that make this dream increasingly difficult to attain.
Some would even be willing to argue, the American dream is unattainable. American Dream is
defined as the concept of every citizen of the United States having an equal opportunity to achieve

We cannot let our work and living conditions limit our success, we must take control of the
situations in our lives. As much as we have all heard it, we need to keep a positive attitude and
mindset, or at least try to. This is probably the easiest way to take control of the situations you
are in; keeping a positive attitude has been known to increase your physical and mental health,
which can really only benefit you. In a study performed by the University of California,
Riverside, in which productivity, happiness, and overall physical and mental well being were
analyzed in working individuals, it was concluded that a positive attitude and outlook has a
great effect on one s life. Generally positive, or happy people, were found to be more satisfied
with their jobs, to perform tasks better, and less likely to be unemployed and more likely to be
physically healthier and live longer than their less happy peers (Joy). Positive people being less
likely to be unemployed allows these individuals to accumulate more money, which makes the
general public happier nowadays, and this ultimately makes the dream of having success more
easily attainable. Happy individuals being found to be healthier and to therefore live longer than
less happy individuals gives these happy individuals more time to attain the American Dream as
well. Keeping

Prokaryotic Vs Eukaryotic Essay
Prokaryotic are organisms whose DNA is not confined within a membrane enclosed nucleus.
Prokaryotic organisms are single, but some prokaryotic organisms are multicellular. Eukaryotes are
organisms who cells are organized into complex structures by internal membranes and a
cytoskeleton. (Cundy, 2012) The most characteristic membrane bound structure is the nucleus.
Animals, plants, fungi, and protists are eukaryotic. Prokaryotic organisms are typically between
0.1 to 5.0 um in size while Eukaryotic organisms are between 5 10 um. Prokaryotic organisms have
pili, cytosol, ribosomes, capsule, cellwall, plasma membrane, DNA, and chromosome also known as
plasmids. (Cundy, 2012) They do not have a nucleus, lysosomes, microtubules, endoplasmic
reticulum,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is what allows prokaryotes to attach to other surfaces. Cytosol is a water like fluid found in
the cytoplasm. Cytoplasm is inside the plasma membrane but outside the nucleus. The cell wall is
made of polysaccharides just outside the plasma membrane and its made of cellulose. (Cundy,
2012) The plasma membrane is the outer boundary of the cell with a layer made of phospholipids.
DNA is a double polymer of nucleotides that store genetic information. DNA stands for
Deoxyribonucleic Acid with a phosphate group of four nitrogenous bases which are adenine,
cytosine, guanine, and thymine. The largest organelle is the nucleus. The nucleus contains DNA.
The mitochondria have a double membrane and it is known for supplying energy to the cell.
Ribosomes produce proteins. These ribosomes can be found in the cytosol of cells. The nucleolus
is what makes ribosomes and RNA. Lysosomes have digestive enzymes. The endoplasmic
reticulum is an inner membrane system that makes some proteins. (Cundy, 2012) There are two
endoplasmic reticulum, one is rough and the other is smooth. The rough endoplasmic reticulum has
ribosomes on it while the smooth endoplasmic reticulum does not have ribosomes on them. The
Golgi apparatus prepares proteins to be taken out of the cell. The vacuole is storage for water and
other nutrients a call may need and this is most commonly found in plant cells. The cytoskeleton
shapes the cell wall and consists of protein

The Treaty Of Versailles And The Great Period Of Peace
Diplomacy would rely more on naked power than on shared values (Kissinger, 1994 page 94). In
world history we can reflect on two treaties that had the intention to achieve the same goal of
stability; however they had diverse approaches. Henry Kissinger and other proponents of The
Congress of Vienna argue that the great period of peace in Europe, between all great powers,
was successful in creating longevity in peace due to the realist theories encompassed in The
Congress of Vienna. Further, many realists also believe that The Treaty of Versailles produced
the precise opposite of what they had set out to do because, unlike The Congress of Vienna, it
was composed of liberalist, constructivist and ideological principles (Kissinger, 1994, page 245).
I agree with Kissinger s argument and further argue that The Treaty of Versailles, which failed to
include legal obligations and concrete mechanisms, was a primary cause of World War II. Even
though there are numerous explanations for why the Congress of Vienna produced greater
stability than the Treaty of Versailles, in this essay I will compare two major reasons. The first is
that the Congress of Vienna focused on restoring the balance of power, while the Treaty of
Versailles wanted to enforce collective security. The second reason is evident through comparing
the outcomes of both treaties; while the Congress of Vienna produced the Concert of Europe, the
Treaty of Versailles produced the infamously unsuccessful League of

18th Century Music
During the 18th century, music was used as a social enhancement on the rising middle class who
showed interest in intellectual ideals of Enlightenment. The rising middle class were people who
would come between the working class and the upper class. Such as craftsman, bankers, and
merchants. These select few decided that since they can now afford some of life s pleasures, that
they would spend it on music that aristocrats and nobility would listen to. While on the other hand,
during the 19th century, music began to develop a more story base theme with a moral lesson. Such
as Ballets and Grand Operas. So basically, during the 18th 19th century, music has evolved from just
sound or noise to a elegant and graceful story played through musical notation with different
musical instruments while advancing the growth of the middle class.
To begin with , the 18th century was the Classical era. In which music had order, symmetry, and
formal restraint. Composers such as Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig
van Beethoven began creating music that pulled away from music that was mainly created for
churches. This secular music they created became entertainment for the aristocrats and the nobility.
A composer by the name of Johann Stamitz organized one of preliminary forms of the classical
orchestra. This orchestra consisted of the string section, the woodwind section, the brass section,
and the percussion section. The largest of the orchestra was called a symphony.

Animal Rights For Animals
George Bernard Shaw once said, the worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them,
but to be indifferent to them: that s the essence of inhumanity. The issue of giving animals rights
has dated back to the ancient Greek in Romans. They believed that people who died who be
reborn in a new life as an animal. This issue has date since sixth century B.C.E until now. As of
now the biggest controversy was the seaworld case involving their interaction with the orcas that
had been the stars of their park. There were many other cases and the issue soon began to escalate
as the number of injuries and occasional deaths increased. Once the problems go to court a decision
of removing the exhibit was the best way to decrease injury by no longer creating contact with the
animals. The United Statesshould create a set of rightsfor animals in the entertainment industry in
order to give those animals proper treatment. The film documentary Blackfish discusses the issues
with Seaworld s orca exhibit and they expose all the problems and issues that orca s experience
after the show. During the documentary multiple trainers and seaworld employees who captured
the orcas for the shows came to a realization. This is a multi billion dollar corporation that makes
its money through the exploitation of Orcas. The cruelty in their methods of capturing showed in

a safe food. As a matter of fact, it even contains more vitamins, proteins, and healthy fats as long as

They love peanut butter, but they definitely hate medicines. Hence, most dog owners trick their
dogs to drink the medicine by hiding them inside the peanut butter that their dogs will eat up
unnoticed.
When it comes to dog training, peanut butter dog treats are also used as a reward for your
pooches. Once they do something great or if they are following certain instructions, they
sometimes find it boring to get the same old dog biscuits every time. Hence, in order to spice
things up and keep them very much interested, a peanut butter dog treat can always be the key.
Saying such, it is very important that we provide our dogs what they really need, and that is to
give them peanut butter dog treats that will enhance their appetite. You do not need to purchase
these peanut butter dog treats at all since you can just make them personally with a touch of your
own love and recipe. If you do not know how to make a peanut butter dog treat for your dog,
simply follow these instructions and you will be able to provide your dog the best peanut butter
treats in the world.

The Business Communication Skills That I ll Be Discussing...
The business communication skill that I ll be discussing is writing skills. The reason that I chose
writing skills is because I honestly feel that writing skills are the most important when it comes to
everyday life but more in business. Written communication is important for people success in today
s world.
Writing has been around since the beginning of people and plays an important role in business.
Having good writing skill is important when dealing with business. If the writing quality is poor
when communicating in business it could have a serious negative effect on the company.
Writing starts with a person when they enter school from when they are kids and progress as
they get older. Writing is an activity or skill of marking coherent words on paper and composing
text. When dealing with writing in business it is important to have good quality. Recent studies
on the need for good writing skill the business environment explain why these skills are
important. Whether it s for a job or for a promotion. (Fisher, 2012). Writing skills is mostly
important when making up a resume or filling out an application. Communicating through writing
is important in the today s world and is becoming even more so as we are part of what is now
known as the information age. Now that computers have taken over the world we live in it is
important that people having good quality in their writing. Dr. Hogan explains in an article entitled

Neutralizing Antacid
Which antacid brand is most effective at neutralizing the excess stomach acid produced during
heartburn? My hypothesis was that if Rite Aid s antacid was added to heartburn acid, then it will
turn neutral with less medicine. This was hypothesized because I think that the ingredients were
best for neutralizing acid. The hypothesis that was reached was incorrect. The CVS generic brand
was able to neutralize stomachacid using the lowest average amount of antacid. Over three trials, it
is clear that the CVS antacid is best at neutralizing excess stomach acid with the lowest amount of
antacid. The average amount of CVS antacid needed to neutralize the acid was only 4 drops. This
means that the consumer would need less antacids to neutralize the... Show more content on

This means that the amounts of acid and antacids may not have been equal for each trial. The
size of the drops of acid and antacid could have been different. There are many ways that every
experiment could be improved. One way would be to have two name brand antacids and two
generic antacids. This would ve helped us to figure out whether or not generic brands were
better than name brands. Another way to improve the experiment would be to use larger amounts
of the hydrochloric acid for each trial. Although it would be more expensive, the experiment
would be more realistic to what people go through when they get heartburn. Also, using smaller
amounts makes it harder to define whether or not the data is accurate. Since the units are
smaller, it is a bigger difference when the data is inconsistent. The information gathered from this
lab can easily be applied to the real world. Looking at the data, Rite Aid s antacid was only
effective when you used the same amount of acid as antacid. CVS and Gaviscon s antacid only
needed half of the amount of acid to neutralize. Rite Aid s antacid wouldn t be useful for consumers
with lots of stomach acid/

Film Making Personal Statement
Film making runs within my family, which is how I was able to find my passion for it. It all
began with my father, who spent his whole career in both the television and the film industry.
Before I was born, my father had been a weatherman for news stations all over the country. As a
kid, I remember watching him on the television. I always looked up to my dad and admired his
profession, which later on inspired me to follow in his footsteps. When my dad moved to San
Antonio, Texas, he opened up his own production company. He was the jack of all trades. He
would make commercials, television shows, and even direct and produce small scale films. Being
exposed to this environment gave me a lot of opportunities in the field of filmproduction, thus
confirming my... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My love for film was evident since I was a kid. My brother, my sister, and I would always make
home movies together and put them in the VCR to watch. In the fifth grade, I was assigned a
book report project. The assignment instructions gave you the choice of writing a summary on
the book or making a short video about it. Out of all the fifth graders at my elementary school, I
was the only one to make a video. Even though it was a very silly and lighthearted production,
my teacher still loved it. I recall the class watching it three times. That project truly showed me
early on in my life that I had the potential to pursue film production. When I was thirteen, my dad
started to film a television show with one of his partners from work. I was one of his production
assistants, which I was absolutely ecstatic about. I was exposed to how a television show was
filmed from the beginning processes of production to the end, when it was ready to be

Paper On Stephen Hawking
Stephen Hawking (January 1942 Present)
Few minds of this century have had an impact like that of Stephen Hawking. His discoveries and
work have expanded the forefront of knowledge with a likeness to that of Einstein and Newton.
Despite the clear adversity Hawking has faced, his achievements have been nothing shore of
extraordinary. His work on the understanding of space, time, and the origins of the universe has set
the golden standard for theories on the universes beginnings and mysteries, proving a staple
teaching of modern education which we may take for granted. Born January 8, 1942 in Oxford,
England Stephen William Hawking was not quite the extraordinary mind that he is known as
today (Witherbee 1). He was the son of Frank and Isabella Hawking, who were of modest means
and were the first among their own families to make more of themselves; Frank was the first to
attend college, graduating from Oxford with his degree in medicine (Eicher 2). Both parents knew
the importance of education and adventure, pushing their children to strive for excellence and do
better for themselves than they had (Witherbee 1). Stephen came into the world during World War
II, in the midst of the Nazi blitz bombings throughout England (Eicher 2). Some of his earliest ...

Hawking has not let his disease define him, publishing many books, teaching at Cambridge for
some time, and receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barak Obama in 2009
(Witherbee 3). Hawking overcame an obstacle few others could have, all while revolutionizing the
understanding of the universe. He proved the mainstay of modern knowledge, through his work on
the Big Bang Theory, and made various other contributions. Stephen Hawkingis one of the most
talented individuals of the 21st Century, not only due to his work In the field of math and physics
but also for the extraordinary life he has

  • 2. Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill One famous example of pollution is the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. It happened in the Gulf of Mexico and it is the largest oil spill in United States history. It was caused by a BP oil well explosion. This was said to have happened because the managers misread pressure information and replaced drilling fluid with ocean water. According to the co chair there was not a culture of safety on that rig . The oil spill was discovered April 22, 2010. It is still not entirely cleaned up. The polluted water contained 40% Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) than most oil spills. • 3. Roman Water System Essay During the ancient Roman time period, there was a problem towards water. The Romans used water every day in fountains and for recreational uses. But how could this water be transported for everyday use and then how was the water to be disposed of? The Romans managed to find the solution to these problems. They used the idea of the aqueductto transfer the water from sprigs to Rome. Once the water was in Rome, it went right to use, either by sending the water directly to a bathhouse to be heated up by a hypocaust, or to a fountain to be seen by all the people of Rome. The water would then be disposed of and travel to the sewer system where it was disposed of. But how did these revolutionary water systems work and what good did they bring to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sewer system would collect water from baths, latrines (a public pay toilet), palaces, fountain, and other urban runoff (Hasan). From here, the sewers would flow through town to either the nearest river or to out onto fields for irrigating and fertilizing soil (Wikander 176, 655). However not every Roman citizen could afford the cost of a bath or bathroom in their house, so they would be forced to either use a latrine or a chamber pot (Hasan). A latrine was a public pay toilet and a chamber pot was a pot where bodily excretions went (Hasan). The chamber pot became a problem as most people became too lazy to properly empty them, so they dumped the chamber pot out of the window. With this problem rising, the Romans decided to use an open sewer system as well with the regular sewer system (Wikander 168). The open sewer system is exactly how it sounds, it s an open sewer where sewage runs through town to the nearest disposal sight. This helped with the disposal of the chamber buckets. Later an emperor named Vespasian came up with the idea to collect all the urine (Hasan). Many have no knowledge of how the healthcare system works, especially in the United States. Each state has its own healthcare system and works by their own rules and laws. One thing which separates Canada with these other states is the cost, the structure and the ratios they have. When people think about healthcare, you get a little bit of both sides. You get the group of people who cannot afford healthcare, and the other group who not only have the income to pay for their healthcare but those who have their private doctors. Many people do not see this as an issue, however they do not even care at the fact that they do not even have any type of healthcare. From generation to generation, there have been several changes in the healthindustry. This industry is a trillion dollar a year industry which still needs more work. Reliability can be examined externally, Inter rater and Test Retest, as well as internally; which is seen in internal consistency reliability methods. It s best to establish inter rater reliability outside of the context of the study s measure. If the reliability is incorporated in the measure and is extremely low, this can cause serious issues for the researchers going forward. It is highly recommended that a pilot study be done to establish the inter rater reliability. It is also a good idea to periodically assess the inter rater reliability if the study will be conducted for an extensive amount of time. There is a difference in how to assess categorical versus continuous measures inter rater reliability. If the measure is a compilation of categories, then the researchers could have the raters mark each category that is applicable to the observations. From those selections, the research team should calculate the percentage of agreement among the raters. However, the research team could also calculate Cohen s Kappa, for a more stable percentage. Cohen s Kappa Cohen s Kappa states: where Pr(a) is the observed agreement among raters, and Pr(e) is the conjectural likelihood of chance agreement, using the observed data to calculate the probabilities of the raters hypothetically choosing each category. Similarly death rate becomes high due to diseases, natural calamities, wars, etc. Infant death rate is also found very high. I find myself most interested when I can picture myself in the character s shoes and feel like i m in the novel myself. This kind of feeling is caused by imagery. Imagery is defined as the use of vivid figurative language to represent objects, actions or ideas. Authors tend to use imagery to create a mental image in the audience s head. This is often done with the use of your senses. Incorporating details about touch, taste, or smell often gives the audience a specific idea of what the author is trying to portray. Poe begins this poem with the first stanza that reads From childhood s hour I have not been as others were; I have not seen as others saw; I could not bring my passions from a common spring In that first stanza Poe expresses that growing up he felt different from the others kids. He conveys that the things that made the other kids happy were not the same things that fulfilled his happiness. Poe explains that he never viewed life the same as other people and that there was something special about him and the way he thinks. The line And all I loved I loved alone reiterates that through the good and bad times he remained the same. This is justified with the line from the depth of good and ill . • 26. Comparing Aquinas, And Paley s Natural Theology A watch embodies all appearances of intelligent design. It has purpose, a certain disposition or instruction. It is a complex object; all parts are needed for it to fulfil its purpose and we could not substitute any of these parts. It is made of a specific set of materials; we do not find smelted gold or blown glass naturally occurring in nature. The watchalso has a regular motion. All these properties and dispositions a watch personifies show it is a creation and not just a naturally occurring object. The same is said about the human eye through analogy. This is the reason William Paleychose to use the watch as well as the human eye to highlight his argument for design in his work Natural Theology, (1802). The teleological argument he puts forth is one we can know empirically through observation. It is not the purpose of the argument to fully convince us that the argument is correct in every way. This is where the idea of creating objects to fulfill purposes becomes blurred. A reasonable comparison would be to fill up a glass with water and then have the water amazed at the fact the glass has been made to fit it perfectly, when in fact it could be no other way. This is an example of a weak anthropic argument. If such a thing as the universe was different in any of way we would not be around to know about it. Bless Me Ultima By Rudolfo Anaya Bless Me Ultima Topic #2 Abid Ahmad Abid Ahmad #1 An essential part of someone s life is a place where they are left alone with their own thoughts, not being judged by anyone or anything outside of them. In many cases, this sense of safety can only be found within themselves, because their world is being torn apart by outside influences that have little regard for their own perspective. Similarly, this is ever present with Antonio and his family in the book Bless Me Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. In almost every aspect , Antonio s family persistently attempts to influence him to their own accord, with even his brothers becoming distant memories that left him and expecting him to fulfill his parents antithetical wishes. ... His dream encapsulated the idea of his thinking and identity being imposed on him literally from birth. A child s mind is like clay that can be molded in an infinite amount of directions. The absolutely worst thing a person could do to this flower of growth is to put it in a box that restricts it from germinating on its own. The only saving grace that Tonie found in this dream was Ultima, who eloquently scolded both sides of the family in saying that only she knows what Antonio will become in life. This concept of Antonio s parents tearing him apart from either side and Ultima giving him the peace of mind of his own critical thinking is a recurring theme. As Antonio s mother and father were simultaneously attempting to pull him to completely opposite shores of happiness, they created a chasm of uncertainty that Antonio had become very susceptible to crashing through. Small visual clues such as one s expression, their race, gender, demeanor, and clothing, set the precedent for how the teacher will view their students from the beginning of the school year to the last day. Most favoritism teachers dole out is subconscious. The reason they may gravitate towards and dote on particular kids could stem from the initial assessment they made or even bias. Humans tend to gravitate towards others similar to them. While there is the belief that teachers playing favourites is natural, necessary, and unavoidable, this behavior is harmful to the student, harmful to their peers, and is often completely irrational. To begin, the mindset of having a favourite student is harmful to the subject. When kids are given special treatment, especially at a young age, things can begin to go wrong. The teacher can excuse misdemeanors that would otherwise be punished. This leads the student to either believe that they re above rule following and will likely do it again, or become overly sensitized to criticism and correction. A year of consistent praise and good feedback is also dangerous. The student may set their standards higher than is realistic, and become disheartened whenever they re awarded a grade lower than their impossible standards. In world history we can reflect on two treaties that had the intention to achieve the same goal of stability; however they had diverse approaches. Henry Kissinger and other proponents of The Congress of Vienna argue that the great period of peace in Europe, between all great powers, was successful in creating longevity in peace due to the realist theories encompassed in The Congress of Vienna. Further, many realists also believe that The Treaty of Versailles produced the precise opposite of what they had set out to do because, unlike The Congress of Vienna, it was composed of liberalist, constructivist and ideological principles (Kissinger, 1994, page 245). I agree with Kissinger s argument and further argue that The Treaty of Versailles, which failed to include legal obligations and concrete mechanisms, was a primary cause of World War II. Even though there are numerous explanations for why the Congress of Vienna produced greater stability than the Treaty of Versailles, in this essay I will compare two major reasons. The first is that the Congress of Vienna focused on restoring the balance of power, while the Treaty of Versailles wanted to enforce collective security. The second reason is evident through comparing the outcomes of both treaties; while the Congress of Vienna produced the Concert of Europe, the Treaty of Versailles produced the infamously unsuccessful League of ... Also, using smaller amounts makes it harder to define whether or not the data is accurate. Since the units are smaller, it is a bigger difference when the data is inconsistent. CVS and Gaviscon s antacid only needed half of the amount of acid to neutralize. Rite Aid s antacid wouldn t be useful for consumers with lots of stomach acid/ ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Film Making Personal Statement Film making runs within my family, which is how I was able to find my passion for it. It all began with my father, who spent his whole career in both the television and the film industry. Before I was born, my father had been a weatherman for news stations all over the country. As a kid, I remember watching him on the television. I always looked up to my dad and admired his profession, which later on inspired me to follow in his footsteps. When my dad moved to San Antonio, Texas, he opened up his own production company. He was the jack of all trades. Out of all the fifth graders at my elementary school, I was the only one to make a video. Even though it was a very silly and lighthearted production, my teacher still loved it. I recall the class watching it three times. That project truly showed me early on in my life that I had the potential to pursue film production. When I was thirteen, my dad started to film a television show with one of his partners from work. I was one of his production assistants, which I was absolutely ecstatic about. I was exposed to how a television show was filmed from the beginning processes of production to the end, when it was ready to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Born January 8, 1942 in Oxford, England Stephen William Hawking was not quite the extraordinary mind that he is known as today (Witherbee 1). Both parents knew the importance of education and adventure, pushing their children to strive for excellence and do better for themselves than they had (Witherbee 1).
