Colour Scheme
My magazine would have will have a colour scheme of Red, Green and Blue because, my first magazine was inspired by
the magazine ‘Billboard’ which use a range of bright and vibrant colours which anchor the public to view their magazine.
Also, my magazine will include most of their bright and vibrant colours to enhance the inspiration of the magazine
‘Billboard’, such as the example shown below, my magazine ‘TeensRule’ which is aimed to both the male and female
gender. The hand drawn draft presented on the right, is what my final outcome of my first magazine should look like. With
the combination of the simple and complimentary colours, this would amplify the magazine and become interesting to the
public. The colour of a bright red, with amplify the masthead to the public because of the black bold text. The colour green
connotes the enhancement of the magazine by bringing the features indicated, for example the pull quote, this suggests
that this would attract the public to read the magazine. The colour red, connotes the amplification of the masthead, as
such of the white text, which would draw in consumers to the relative content. Finally, the colour of a dark blue would
notify the reader about the main headline, related to the musical industry, also by placing the main headline in the center
of the magazine, the qualification of the main image, would bring out the use of the headline to the public.
Font Style
My magazine font style would be in the font known as ‘Gunplay’ because, this will enhance the background colour(s) of
the magazine on the; front and back cover, along with the text shown on a double page spread. This font is clear to read
with the need for hesitation and the bold text also enhance the quality of the magazine, such as the features on the
magazine cover, for example; the cover lines and the pull quote.
Social Media
The social media links along with the website address, will be placed at the back of the magazine in the barcode,
because, by having my magazine with a decent amount of feature to anchor the public to read the magazine. Also, this is
a result of Technical Convergence which is; ‘The company presents. Wide range of social interactions, along with a
variety of different products, such as paperback products (magazines) and digital products (online update/websites).’ This
is an example of technical convergence because, my magazine includes a wide variety relating to the paperback product,
this also relates to the convergence of online, because of the website address contained within the barcode along with the
price and issue date.
Straplines
An Indication of what the magazine may contain or a brief small paragraph about the background of the magazine that
would inform the public about the magazine and therefore anchor them to the front cover.
House Style - TeensRule
House Style - RockStarsColour Scheme
To resemble my inspired magazine ‘RESPECT’ and ‘KERRANG’ I have decided to alter the colours used in my
hand drawn draft shown below, by changing the colours to the use of black and white, because, my second
magazine would relate more the male gender. By doing so, this will allow me to enhance the quality of the
magazine more, with the use bold and large green text for my magazine brand, along with the background colour
of grey, this magazine would interest the male public, as the magazine is eye-catching however, not so out there,
in comparison to the first magazine. With the simplicity of the three colours of; grey to connote the masthead and
enhance the brand name, black and white images overall colour of the magazine would interest the male gender,
because the magazine does not contain colours that overwhelm the public, and finally red to underline the or
outline the borders of the content on the magazine, for example, the cover lines and anchorage text.
Font Style
I want my second magazine to interest the male public. Therefore I have decided on the font style of ‘The Blacklist’
because, in my opinion, this font would resemble the boy gender of today’s society. With this type of font, the
masthead (brand name) will be enhanced by the green colour and the grey background, which would relate the
male gender, along with the primary use of black, grey, white and red as to enhance the simplicity however,
professional look, that would anchor the male public to read the magazine.
Social Media
By also relating my magazine with the use of most common social media of; Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, the
public can be notified on the latest issue release, gossip and background information in relation to the musical
industry. By providing the public with social media links on the front cover, barcode or contents page, with the
release of every issue, subscribers are constantly notified, due to the visual imagery and the bright colours.
Straplines
These can act as a slogan to inform the reader about the magazine, they can be a short sentence which can
explain why this magazine is popular or what the magazine relates to in terms of the musical industry

For my first magazine, I have decided on
choosing this is as my first magazine flat plan,
this is because of the well organised layout
that would attract the public to read the
magazine. With my front cover and back
cover, I would include my own images, in
which a close friend of mine would model with
his musical instruments.
With the use a magazine flat plan, I can easily
understand, what would go in each double
page spread and also understand the
anchoring features that would draw the public
of my target audience to the magazine
My vibrant main images and interesting text
would relate to my chosen music genre of
hip-hop and rock as well as content that would
be relevant for this type of magazine, as such
by including a variety; for example, interviews
and music reviews.

Magazine Flat Plan Explanation - RockStars
For I would have a similar number of pages
because, my magazine would be released as
a monthly issue, each double page spread,
will include an even amount of context and
images, that would interest the reader due to
the images relating to the context.
In this magazine flat plan, similar to my
‘TeensRule’ I have included my created
double page spread (as shown below) which I
have design to go in my magazine. Along with
my design front cover, that would include and
image/ images that I have taken from a friend
who will be modeling my front cover, with
content that would relate to my music genre of
hip-hop and rock.

My interview has been inspired by the magazine Billboard. I would like to create an interview in the various different ways, such as different questions and answers. The use of including an interview in my magazine, will attract the
public readers to it because, of the revealing background information about the artist. As well as bring out the understanding of what an interview is like and what kind of replies I would get.
Q1. Hi Theodore, how is your day going?
Hello Patrice, oh and you can call me Theo and my day is going great, a little crazy and chaotic, but all is going great. How are you?
Q2. I’m doing great thanks for asking. So, in relation to our next mon-ths issue, I heard that you will be on tour for two weeks. Shall we talk about it?
Sure, I would love to talk about my upcoming tour. I cannot believe that I’m starting in two days, then it’s off travelling around the world to different countries and enjoying the concerts. Mostly the late night shows with all the bright
lights and loud music. I really enjoy going on tour, I mean besides the long plane and bus journeys, it’s really worth it cause I love making my fans happy. It’s always a fun time to travel.
Q3. Oh, well your really excited then. With this upcoming tour, what are you most excited for?
(Pauses and thinks) The one thing I’m really excited for is that I get to see all my fans on stage, and at the meet and greet after the show. I really love all the hugs and kisses. I receive even small gifts I get from all the cute little
ones. I absolutely adore meeting my fans, cause it feels like they are part of my family, as well as being just a face in the crowd. Whenever I go on tour, I am always excited to see all the new faces and sometimes recognise a few.
But yeah, I am always excited to see my ‘Theodore Squad’ (laughs). It just makes my day as well as everyone else's.
Q4. That’s so cute (Theo blushes). And when you go on tour. What are your most needed essentials?
Well, that’s a difficult one but, my most likely needed essentials are, to always have a small pillow, cause, you know, ya boy Theo always has to be comfy (laughs). But really, I do need a pillow, some snacks and water of course
because I gotta keep yourself hydrated. And whenever I go on tour it is just like non-stop rehearsals and interviews; but to be honest I love interviews more than rehearsals and that’s why I need my energy and nutrients… Also, my
phone is my most needed essential. I always have a few minutes before I go onstage and after the show, before I go on the bus or head off to an interview; I manage to send a text my close friends, my girlfriend or a family
member, and see how they are doing. For me it’s also a must to listen to some jammin’ tunes… Oh and I almost forgot, if I don’t have a blanket with me, I must have a jacket to keep myself warm and comfy throughout my tour.
Q5. Wow, that’s a lot of items (Theo smiles in embarrassment). Ok, well then, since you sometimes travel by bus or plane, what is the most needed item?
Oh that one is easy, as addictive as this may sound and many may agree with me, I must have my phone on me, because, no matter how my day is going, I will always have enough time to text or call my family and friends; chat
on the updates on the latest family news along with my own updates on where I am on tour, where I will be going, and if I got them a few gifts. My phone is my most needed essential, besides listening to tunes and scrolling through
Facebook and twitter, I do have a little spare time to listen to an audiobook while planning my next music piece.
Q6. That’s really sweet Theo. (Theo smiles) So when you travel, what do you really miss when you go on tour?
Every time I go on tour to a new country and onstage to see all my fans; after the concert I really miss their smiling faces and sometimes hear the out of tune singing voices (chuckles)..… but, the saddest thing about going on tour
is that it feels like I only have a limited amount of time with them, then leave the next day or the day after; it can vary sometimes depending on how busy my schedule is, but (sighs) it’s a shame that I probably might not see many of
them for a very long time. (pauses)
Q7. I see, but to lighten the mood a little. (Theo smiles) I have heard that many other celebrities bring a surprise guest to appear on stage at a few of their concerts. Will you be bringing any surprise celebrities?
I am really tempted to tell you guys who I’m bringing to appear on stage at my concert in California, but I’m trying not to give any spoilers but, I might be bringing a few people to appear on stage, maybe on this upcoming tour I
might have someone appear.
Q8. Ooo I can’t wait. And you’ve been to many countries over the past few years correct? (Theo nods in agreement). So, what is your favourite country you have visited?
Oh.... that’s a tough one but, my absolute favourite country would have to be Paris, cause of course the city of love (blushes). It is always an amazing tour of exploring the most popular landmarks, like the Eiffel Tower. But I also
like to get myself a little croissant here and there (laughs). But when it comes to the late night shows, the crowd goes wild and I do remember on one of my tours two years ago, I could hear most of my lyrics being sung in French.
Q9. (Laughs) Well that is actually kind of adorable. (Theo smiles) And every time you go on a new tour, what is it that you would likely change about it if you could?
I would really like to change how long I get to stay in that country for. Cause I only get a limited amount of time, a maximum of one and a half days. But mainly, I would like to extend the time by a few days, cause it would be nice to
explore and meet new people, or run into familiar faces.
Q10. Do you ever get any worries when you go on tour?
In my opinion, I worried fifty percent of the time. And to be honest, on stage I’m afraid that I would fall, and probably rip my pants or break my mic. (Gives an embarrassed expression) But when traveling or before I set of, I check
the news and I sometimes see car accidents or an update on bad weather, and I’m afraid that I may encounter an accident and start to panic a little.
Q11. I understand. But do you have any plans for when you finish your tours?
(Smiles) My main plan is, to get as much sleep as possible (laughs) but also try and spend as much time with my friends and family after being away with them for quite some time.
Okay, thank you for your time and I hope that we see each other again in the future.
Alright, and thank you Patrice for your questions. I absolutely loved answering them and I hope to you see you in the future as well.

Interview - Draft for DPS
What will you ‘Repeat’ (Steve Neale - 1980) Front
Cover - TeensRules
On my first magazine, which is called ‘TeensRule’ and has been
inspired by the magazine ‘Billboard’, I would keep the font style of
the magazine the same, because, this would result in the
uniqueness of the magazine as a whole. The font style I have
been using was inspired by the website ‘Dafont’; which consisted
on a variety of the different font styles. Eventually, I ended on the
font style of; ‘Gunplay’ which would portray a sense of
enlightenment as to how this magazine would stand out to the
public, from the other magazines.
I would also keep the location of certain key features at the front
of my magazine, for example; the bold writing of the text which
would amplify the magazine to the eyes of the public, also the
location of the cover lines and the barcode, because this would be
more reachable to the reader as this would allow them to gain full
access to the key information presented; such as the price of the
magazine, and the latest news and updates in relation to the
music industry.
The text side would also be repeated, therefore a decent amount
of information will onto the front cover, without overwhelming the
reader. And to enhance the text information, the use of the bold
bright colours as shown below would be repeated with every
issue of the magazine, resulting in a more recognisable
appearance as well as the masthead. However I would keep the
location of the masthead the same but only when my front cover
includes one main image (one artist) With many of my issues, I
would keep this the same because, I want the magazine front
cover to be eye-opening to the public; with the sense of creating a
unique and probably irresistible anchorage to the magazine.
Finally, I would repeat the location of the social media links as
such of the enhancement of the vibrant colours that would amplify
the; masthead, main image and social media links.
“For Media texts to be successful, they must
have elements of ‘Repetition’ and ‘Difference’”
From my magazine of inspiration, I will use
Steve Neale’s idea and repeat the location and
positioning of the Masthead as this would
identify to the public about the magazine brand
and how this its organised layout will resemble
the music industry.
Also on the masthead, I would repeat the
conventions of the colour scheme as this would
enhance the quality of the magazine as of the
bright colours would amplify the application of
the key features such as the cover lines,
strapline and the monthly headline.
I would also repeat the use of the pull
quote, as of its location and status.
This would amplify the quality of the
magazine as such of its purpose to
attract the reader.
What will you ‘Repeat’ (Steve Neale - 1980) DPS -
TeensRule
I would preferable repeat the layout of my DPS as this would give a
sense and realisation that the layout would interest the reader, as of
the well organised arrangement and design of the magazine double
page spread.
I would repeat the use of colour, as this would also intrigue the eyes of
the public as of the combination of text and images that would anchor
the reader into reading the content. However in my hand drawn drafts,
most of the colours used, will be repeated throughout the magazine,
as of a identification on the key features. For example, the magazine
headline, would be kept the same; to amplify the reader about the
contents that would be contained within the double page spread. As
similar to the pull quote, this will anchor the reader as to what the
magazine double page spread would have in relation the headline.
Also, shown in my graphic layout as shown below, this layout
represents a simpler version as to how the organisation of the
magazine would be presented to the reader. In every issue release of
my monthly magazine, this layout out of my double page spread,
would be found near the beginning of the magazine, because of the
continuous repetition of the organisation as to how the magazine
would be exploited to the viewer’s eyes.
As this double page spread would be contained within every issue of
the magazine, the amplification the simplistic colours would uphold an
attract to the headline/ main story and to the text; as this can vary
depending on the information presented.
The colour scheme shown below is an example of what would be
included in the magazine. The use of the two simplistic, would be
Steve Neale’s use of ‘Repetition as of the repetition of the double page
spread layout, along with the repetition of small details such as:
website address, masthead - brand name and social media links.

Pull Quote
From my magazine of inspiration, I plan to use the
repetition of the the location of the masthead and the
cover lines, as this would connote the continuous
coordination on the layout of the double page spread.
Similarly I would repeat the colour scheme based on this
dps, and therefore you this to my advantage on my own
magazine and therefore, make this stand out to anchor the
reader into viewing my magazine.
What will you ‘Repeat’ (Steve Neale - 1980) Layout -
TeensRule
In my first magazine, I would
repeat the layout of the magazine
because, subscribers and viewers
would also have the chance to
understand the layout of the
magazine and give them quick
access as to the variety of the
different pages, with the exception
of the different information
presented with every new monthly
issue release.
The organised layout, would be
repeated with every new issue, as
such of the location on my main
DPS, because the content page
would repeat the same layout and
identify the location as to where
the reader wants to skip to.
Along with the repetition of the
colour scheme to the entire
magazine would be repeated as
such of the presentation of its
uniqueness and how the bright
colours would make the magazine
stand out from the others.
What will you ‘Different’ (Steve Neale - 1980) Front
Cover - TeensRule
However, with my first magazine, I would
differentiate the organisation of what is on
the magazine. For example, f my main
image consists of two artists, the
organisation of the key features
presented on the magazine would be
altered to enhance the quality of the
magazine and reveal the popular artists,
which would relate to most of the
information contained within/ throughout
the magazine.
I would also recommend that, with every
new issue the layout of my magazine
front cover would have an altered
perspective of the, for example, if my
magazine front cover has two artists, the
Masthead would be placed horizontally
across the top of the magazine and the
headline/ strapline would be placed
directly underneath, as well as there
would no a frequent indication of there
being a pull quote; as this would
overwhelm the reader because of the due
to a large amount of information that
would be crammed into one confined
space.
What will you ‘Different’ (Steve Neale - 1980) DPS -
TeensRule
In the circumstance of my first magazine, the main feature that I would
change, would probably have to be the altering of the information the
given, as although my double page spread would have the same layout
with every issue release, I would change what content/ context would go
on the magazine double page.
For example, my first magazine release would contain, an artist
interview along with main images of that artist as well as a pull quote of
what they said and some additional information underneath would the
artist. And with my next issue, I would have the alternative of the
changing the headline to a different topic along with the rest of the
layout of the double page spread, because, although this DPS would be
repeated in every new release, the informational content would have a
different perspective on the what context would be presented on the
pages.
What will you ‘Different’ (Steve Neale - 1980) Layout
- TeensRule
I would mainly alter the information that I would
present within each magazine, and the
information given would interest the viewer or a
subscriber to the magazine to read my
magazine.
For instance on one of my double page spread,
say for example, pages 10 & 11, I would alter
the competition as in; trips, and rewards. By
doing this I will be able to differentiate the
perspective as to what the public want in the
magazine.
However, by not changing the layout of the
magazine, this will allow me to achieve the
content would be easily accessible to the
public, as of the contents page would allow
them to quickly and easily access the content
they want. Furthermore, this would take away
most of the magazine’s uniqueness as of the
continuous repetition of the magazine the
repetition of the colour scheme, the content
presented should interest the reader, by
anchoring them to the written verbal content of
interviews and the main headline, as well as the
non- verbal content of the main images.
Although, with the practise of creating a front
cover and a double page spread, I will be able
to achieve the aspect of understand the
process of the production of a magazine.

As my second magazine was inspired by the male targeted ‘RESPECT’ I would like to repeat
their layout of the magazine, as for their continuous use of the location of many of their key
features, such as the masthead stretch across the top of the magazine and the main
headline/ strapline directly underneath.
I would also repeat the positioning of the cover lines, as this magazine is targeted to the
male gender, the content on the front cover, would attract the public to read the magazine,
along with the repetitive use of the colour scheme as shown below and the bold text; similar
to my first magazine and would enhance the quality of the magazine further, my second
magazine would have an interest of what would be aimed towards the male gender.
I would also repeat the position of the magazine front cover: as shown in the final graphic
layout, my second magazine would have relevant and appropriate content that would draw
men to the magazine.

HeadlineAnchorage
Text
With my double page spread, I would repeat the use of the positioning of the Headline and of the text, as this would amplify how the magazine brand is portrayed to anchor
the reader to the magazine. With the use of Steve Neales’ Repetition, similarly to my double page spread of my first magazine, I would repeat the layout as of the positioning
of the magazine, I would also repeat the placement of the headline and the text. This would anchor the male gender the context of the magazine and read it. The use of this
repetition, would interest the reader, due to its bright and vibrant colours that would be eye-catching to the reader, in contrast to the rest of the magazine.
However, in the hand drawn draft shown in the bottom right corner, I would not consider the use of the colours scheme, as such for this magazine, the male gender would
prefer the use of dark colours such as; grey, black and white. Although the example on the bottom left corner, the layout of the double page spread is more clear and
understanding as to how I would want to present the magazine to the male sex.
I would repeat the subject of the headline, in relation to the music industry; more likely towards the male gender, as of its likelihood of pulling the reader towards the
magazine. In addition, the point I am trying to get across is that, this dps that I would repeat with every issue release of the magazine, I would repeat the topic on the dps; for
example, competition or interview.

With the magazine flat plan shown, I would
repeat most of the double page spreads; as
such of my main dps: 14&15. With a magazine
that would aimed towards the male public, I
would like to repeat most of the plan, as this
would anchor the read a little more, similar to my
first magazine, due to the quick and easy
access to the magazine, in relation to the
contents page, this use of Steve’s ‘Repeat’ the
public would allowed to have quick and easy
access to what the men want to see.
I would also repeat the layout of most of the
images as this would draw in the reader to what
the magazine is trying to get across, as this
magazine, along with my first magazine, I would
like to have the repetition of most of my images,
to connote that my second magazine is mainly
aimed towards the male public.
The main features that I would repeat would to
be;
● The features of the Front and back
cover, as these would notify the reader
that this magazine is mainly aimed to
the men.
● Contents and New issue pages, as this
would help the male public with the
identification of the release of the next
issue, and the location of the different
pages within the magazine.
What will you ‘Different’ (Steve Neale - 1980) Front
Cover - RockStars
With my second magazine, The front cover would have very little changes as this magazine is
aimed to the male gender, I want the layout of the front cover to anchor my target audience of
the male gender to the be drawn to the magazine front cover, as well as keeping most of my
front cover features. However, with every new issue release my magazine would have a
different outcome, therefore this would interest the male public, as of the alterations with every
new magazine release.
The first feature that I would change is the the orientation of the Puff Promotion as this would
alter the justification of drawing in the reader. Also, I would alter the positioning of where the
barcode would go, as this would distract the reader for what the music magazine is trying to
portray, therefore with most of my issue most of my issue releases, I would have the barcode
placed on the back cover.

I would differentiate the use of the context, as this is the most important
part when my double page spread would be repeated throughout the
magazine, this is because, as shown in my hand drawn drafts I would
differentiate the colours used, due to the theme of black, grey and
white, the layout of my double page spread would have the colours of
grey and white, with the outline of red and black which would enhance
its features and therefore attract the male public to the magazine. Also
similar to my first magazine, I would keep the layout of my DPS the
same, however, I would alter the presentation of the context of the
magazine, because my magazine would have a monthly issue release
the information and presentation should vary in relation to the music
industry.
Finally, I would not really change very many of the features on my
double page spread, except for the information and images that would
be presented out the double page spread. In my second magazine, not
very much information would be placed on my double page spreads as
this magazine is mainly aimed towards the male public eye, as well as
having information that would be appropriate and acceptable due to my
age range target audience of 16 to 22

In the variation on the monthly magazine issue

of repetition of some double page spreads that may
have the same or similar layout/ context in relation to
the music magazine.
In some cases I would differentiate the magazine flat
plan every few months, as this would allow the reader
to have enough time to adjust to the layout of the
magazine before the next change. I have decided that
the magazine flat plan would vary every few months
because of the contents page, due to subscribers or
reader have the accessible source to the location as
to which the; competition, interview or questionnaire is
located.

• The magazine uses Hartley’s theory to
enhance interest of young consumers,
due to the low target audience

• The magazine focuses the view point of
stating both genders equally as they
create content that is both visible and
interesting to males and females
• The magazine states that their content
does not or is not likely to give
information that may offend people of a
certain race or for what they may
believe in. The magazine focuses on
valid content that will not cause any
disagreements.
• As the magazine continues to grow,
there has been more and more use of
the content that the magazine aims
most of their content towards; Explorers
and Caregivers because of Maslow’s
theory of self-motivation.
• The magazine use this as an
advantage to draw people into buying
their magazine, however focus on the
information of the news, such as; ads
and leaflet, which can be found in other
magazines like; Q or XXL.
• The reference of the music industry in
the magazine, is quite high as such of
the common Personal Identification of
famous celebrities and famous artists
on the front covers and throughout their
content.
• The Personal Relationship from the
magazine to the consumer suggests
that they their target audience to be

given.
• The magazine used Katz theory with
the following of advertising their website
such as involving adds popping up in
the center of the screen.

Age Gender Class
With the use of Hartley’s
theory, for my first
magazine, I have decided
to aim the content
produced towards the
young public between the
age range of; 14 to 19. I
have decided to choose
this age range because,
as my first magazine is
aimed towards the young
public, a young age range
would anchor the public to
that age range to the
magazine, as the context
would relate more towards
them. Therefore, through a
monthly issue release, the
age range of 14 to 19
would be drawn into the
magazine and in
conclusion result in an
appealing of young
teenagers to be anchored
into its content.
As my first magazine is
aimed to the young society
of the world’s population,
my first magazine would
be aimed to both the male
and female gender, as this
magazine would contain
content that would interest
both genders. This
magazine would have
content that would anchor
them both because of the
context would be
appropriate and relatable
as of the verbal content
presented, as well as the
non-verbal content
revealing an interest
towards the male public.
Although my magazine
does not focus this as the
key focal point, my
magazine would relate to
all the classes, as this will
not cause any
judgemental
disagreements. However,
most of the content that
would be contained in the
magazine would relate
more towards the middle
and upper class.
In addition, my first
magazine would not have
it full attention on the class
status, as my magazine is
in relation to the musical
industry, the content would
not relate to the
differentiation of the class
status.
As for my second
magazine, the age range
would resemble to the
slightly older generation. I
have decided to present
my magazine and its
content towards the age
range of 16 to 22, I have
decided on this age range,
as my second magazine
would contain information
that would relate more to
them.
As of this age range, the
public would be drawn into
the magazine as of the
verbal sna non verbal
content, with the
connotations of the
headline, cover lines and
the pull quote,
In comparison to my first
magazine which is aimed
to both the male and
female genders, my
second magazine which
is mainly a rock genre;
the male public of my
target audience will be
attracted to this
magazine, because of
the more simplistic
outcome of the front
cover, as theme as well
as the colours scheme,
of white, grey and black
would have enhance the
masthead and main
image of the front cover.
Class is not really a key
point of my second
magazine as the
content would be aimed
to all classes. In
addition the content
presented would also
have appropriate text
that would not cause
any disagreements or
arguments that would
relate to any of the
classes.

If the magazine
becomes a
likelihood interest
would the target
audience of the
male and female
gender.
Many subscribers
to the magazine
would like to
explore the
different contents
within the
magazine;
therefore my
magazine would
vary in the issue
content for
example, some
issues would
contain a
competition, and
the next issue
would have an
artist interview.
As my magazine
does not relate to
any source of
survival, except in
the relation to the
music genre, for
example music
taste of the rock
genre.
However, the
beneficial cause
for the production
and selling of the
magazine, the
benefits of the
money raised will
go to a good
cause.
Similar to
survivors, the
beneficial cause of
having a music
magazine will
allow the public to
interact with the
magazine; updates
on social media
sites.
The positive side
of Maslow’s
Theory was that
social climbers
would given the
chance to self
motivate and
interact with the
music magazine
as well as the rest
of the public.
Also, Maslow
wanted to achieve
his theory but
bringing the public
together. Due to
my magazine
being the basis of
the musical
industry. My
magazine content
would contain
entertainment that
would interest the
reader. For
example,
competition,
background
information of an
artist, within an
interview.
The male public
will be allowed to
have an interest in
exploring the wide
variety of the rock
background. Also
by having a
magazine that
would allow the
public to explore
the wide range of
the background of
the music rock
genre.
Similar to my first
magazine, the
explorers would
have a likelihood of
view the different
perspectives of
how the music
industry presents
the different sides
of ‘Rock’
Due to my
second magazine
having the basis
of rock; my
second magazine
would result in
the helpfulness of
having content
that would relate
to artists; for
example,
background
information in
interviews as well
as rock artists
with the interest
of songs/ albums.
In comparison to
my first magazine
the content would
not have a
relatively high
interest on social
standards.
Because this
magazine will be
pointed towards
the male public
the social
interaction would
be lower than my
first magazine.
However, my
magazine would
contain content
that would
interest the male
public. Although
my second
magazine is
based on mainly
‘Rock’ most of
content would
provide
information, in
which Maslow
wanted to
achieve in some
social interaction.

my first magazine
would have the

educating the
younger

the background of
the musical

My first magazine
would have the
influence of public
on their personal

For example, over
few issues, my
magazine would
contain a personal
Q&A/ Quiz on
which they will be
informed on who
they relate; in
terms of the music
industry (artists).
With my first
magazine, I would
have
entertainment
advantage of
drawing in the

this will be aimed
to the young public
eyes of 14-19.
The Personal
Relationship from
the magazine to

suggests that they

My first magazine
aims to present a

which the interest

Due to hip-hop
genre, the
magazine aims to
interact with the
public about the

My first magazine
aims to bring both

Also this magazine
aims to avoid the

the context being

as what is
contained within
the magazine.
Finally, the
magazine wants to
achieve the aspect
of having a
likelihood to its
originality of the
hip-hop genre.
My second
magazine would
have the privilege
of having a opinion
to the ‘rock’ genre.
This contents
would have a
perspective that
would interest the
male gender to
read the magazine;
along with the
influence of having
a specific
advantage focal
point, that would
interest the male
public to read the
magazine.
The information
presented must be
eye-catching
towards the male
public.
As of the male
gender. Personal
identification
should relate to
men between my
target age range
of 16-22.
With the
limitations of
providing
information that
would relate to
only the male
genre. My second
magazine must
provide
information that
would relate to
my target male
audience as well
as having an
anchoring front
and back cover
that would relate
to male public.
My second
magazine must
have a subjective
influence as to
the relationship
between the
magazine and the
public, along with
enhancing or
accentuating the
possibility of the
personal
relationship
between the age
range of my
target audience.
However, this
magazine will be
only aimed at the
male gender; this
provide a
diversion as to
the magazine
having a
separation
between the male
and female
genders. Also,
the social
interaction would
be less in
comparison to my
first magazine.

Evaluation of Photographs
With my image, I decided to go for images that
reveal a good presentation of my magazine
and its hip-hop genre. The usefulness of the
colours, red and blue are very good
complimentary colours and therefore, enhance
the quality of the magazine and make it stand
out to the public eyes.
As shown in the photograph, these colours
can amplify the magazine as well as the
masthead towards the young eye of my target
audience of 14 to 19. In addition this may
attract the usefulness of the ‘Female Gaze’;
Diana Saco, by which the female gender may
become more anchored to more than the male
public. However, this magazine is aimed
equally to both the male and female public.
Furthermore the usefulness of having a boy
model bright and eccentric colours, will draw
the public to the magazine, as well as confirm
an identity of the music genre. In conclusion,
the theme of my first magazine is colourful, as
a result, the bright and bold colours will
compliment, or otherwise make the masthead
and the rest of the feature on the magazine
front cover and the contents within the
magazine stand out to the young public.
In comparison, my second magazine is aimed mainly
towards the male gender public, as of the use of the
dark colours that would complement the masthead very
well, I also wanted to go for a backsplash that would be
very easy for me to achieve and also edit my
photographs in photoshop with the easy and accessible
Adobe Photoshop CC 2015.5
With these images, I will be able to achieve the fulness
of enhancing with the helpfulness of editing, I will be
able to achieve the what the magazine is trying to
portray, as this magazine is of the music genre of
Rock, the dark coloured clothes will be able to amplify
the magazine further towards to the male
Public. Finally, the theme of my second
magazine is black and white, Therefore with
the use of deep dark colours, this would
enhance the red masthead.
Production Process
Date of
Publication
Managing the
Schedule
Editorial and Budgetary
Decision
Content Acquisition
The first thing to do
is to set up the date
of publication; the
issue date of the
magazine when it is
released to the
public. Once the
date is established,
you are now
operating with a
schedule. A
schedule that is the
plan as to how you
are going to go
about the production
process and when
of the process will
occur.
An extremely important step
that should not be taken for
granted, especially when it
comes to the production of
the magazine. If the
magazine wants to be
produced successfully, then
the schedule must properly
be managed. The schedule
must be made in such as
way that there are
provisions for the certain
mishaps that may occur.
When these mishaps occur,
you can always meet the
deadline. This is the reason
as to why a proper
management of the
schedule is very vital.
The next step in the production
of a magazine is the editorial
decision. These involve the the
magazine’s editorial team
assembling and deciding on
the topics that will be covered in
the next issue. The editorial
team is about talks about the
various contents that make up
the magazine. After deciding
which article ideas/topics, new
stories, illustrations and
photographs, the team then
make the budgetary decisions,
but looking at how much
money is available and how
much money will be spent
towards the production of the
magazine.
The content acquisition process is
arguably the most important step, this is
because without content, there would
simply be no magazine in the first place.
There are two major ways that content
can be gathered. The first is through
in-house staff writers (work inside the
industry, eg. research) and the second is
through external writer (news reporters)
that are commissioned to write on the
topics that are specialist in nature. At this
stage, it is the artwork graphics which
are also worked on. The artwork is also
defined as illustrations and pictures that
undergo this process and then placed in
the magazine. In simpler ways,
Graphics are the images/pictures that
are designed with a computer program.

Sub-editing Page Layout Proofreading Distribution
Sub-editing focuses on one
major priority, Quality Control.
If the media organisation is
large enough, to contain a
sub-editor, then this person is
going to be responsible for this
job; if there is no sub-editor,
then the editor does this job.
This step involves the following;
● Checking the accuracy of
all the facts in the article
● Making sure that words are
properly spelled
● Grammar and
Punctuation is used
correctly
● All articles follow the
house-style
● Working on the page
layout
In big publications, there is a
special team that is
responsible for the page
layout; this team is known as
the Layout staff. Their job is
to typeset and layout the
various pages that come
together to make a
magazine.
In the performing of this task,
the team uses a powerful
Desktop Publishing
Program (DPP/DTP) such as
InDesign or Pagemaker. It is
at this stage that Adverts
from advertisers are placed
into the content.
After the page layout is
complete, the next stage is to
proofread.
The editorial department will
print out a hardcopy of the
magazine for the sole purpose
of reading through the
magazine to find and correct
any mistakes.
It is easier to proofread a
hardcopy than to proofread a
soft copy
Any mistakes that are spotted
is quickly corrected on the
DTP file. The editorial team
keeps proofreading, until a
member of the team is
satisfied that all the mistakes
have been corrected.
The final stage of the entire
process. With the printing
company having finished with
the continuous printing of the
magazines, they are then
packaged neatly and sent to a
warehouse, for international
transport and storage. After
the magazines have been
stored in the warehouse for a
short amount of time, the
copies are then taken out of
the warehouse and distributed
to the public, via the post or in
a shop.

Calendar Events; Issue Date: 07/07/2018
Why?
Why did I choose this Issue date? What could affect the issue date? Why would this date be appropriate for
my target audience?
Why would this magazine be suitable for
this issue date?
-For my first magazine, I decided to go
for the issue date of a week or two into
the summer holidays. I choose this date
because my target audience, may or
may not be quite active; this would
therefore allow me to release my
magazine to the public that would
interest them to view my magazine, in
the locations of a widely populated
areas. The issue date of the summer
break may increase the number of
issues released and bought; therefore
this may help the company with their
increase in profit that would benefit the
production process of the magazine.
-Along with my second magazine, I also
decided to choose the issue date of
during the summer holidays because,
this is when most of the population will
be on vacation, and by selling a new
product to the public may allow them a
chance to review the music magazine.
-As my first magazine is aimed at the
young target audience of the ages
14-29, the date of release a few weeks
into the summer holidays, would be
suitable for those who would like to be
entertained and also have an interest in
the release of a new magazine would
anchor the public to view my first
magazine. By having my magazine
released to the public on this date was
because, of the content contained within
my magazine would be interesting and
also anchor the public to my magazine,
as such the content would relate quite
well to the theme of summer; due to the
bright colours involved and the images
include might also relate to the mood of
summer.
-As for my second magazine, my target
audience for this magazine is aimed at
the slightly older generation of the male
public with the age range of 16-22,
factors that may affect the date of
release could be the effectiveness of the
number of copies launched and sold.
-With a young target audience, this may
interest the viewer to read my
magazine, because, of the genre:
hip-hop; the young target audience may
be attracted to the magazine, with the
likelihood of the content, containing
information that would entertain those
who may be interested in music.
As of the release of summer vacation,
this issue date would be appropriate for
my target audience because, teenagers
would have the chance to gain
inspiration, or to be entertained by the
musical genre.
-In comparison to my first magazine, this
issue release date would also be
suitable for the older male public as of
the summer vacation season, this may
allow them to have the entertainment of
a music magazine with content that
relates to the spectacle of the ‘Rock’
genre.
-My target audience, which is normally
based on the young generation of
today’s population, is mostly likely to be
interested along the musical aspect of
information, in relation to the musical
industry of hip-hop and pop music; in
relations to the use of bold and bright
colours, this magazine would be suitable
for a launch date of a few weeks into
summer vacation, the young public
would be anchored into the magazine as
well as its content.
-With the theme of black and white, the
slightly older generation is most likely to
be anchored into a magazine that would
have a release date of a few weeks into
the summer holidays. By having a
release date that is the same as my first
magazine, this could provide the public
with a variety of choice between the two
magazines.
Magazine Front Cover Images
TeensRule RockStars
For my first magazine, I decided to go for the photo shown below as my front cover.
Because, this is was useful way for portraying my magazine genre of hip-hop. With
the use of bright colours that compliment each other quite well, I would then be able
to enhance the quality of my magazine front cover. For my first magazine, my chosen
genre is hip-hop, and I wanted to go for a bright colour scheme that will make the
front cover contents stand out to the public and therefore anchor them to read my
magazine front cover. From my the helpfulness from my inspirational magazine:
‘Billboard’ I was then able to plan, produce and present what I am aiming for my final
product to look like. Presented in the next few slides is what I have planned for my
front cover and dps to look like and I also want to produce a magazine that resembles
my inspiration and shows a confirmation of having a unique style.
Finally, the colour scheme must also relate to my magazine of inspiration, therefore I
chose the colours of red and blue and positioned my model in a way that would also
make my magazine stand out to my aimed target audience of the middle ages
teenagers; in which I decided to have my best friend model for my front cover. And by
having this photo on the front cover of my first magazine, I will be able to achieve the
aspect that my first magazine is of the ‘hip-hop’ genre.
And for my second magazine, I wanted to go for a different perspective, in
comparison to my hip-hop magazine, I went for a different genre of ‘Rock’. Therefore,
I decided on a black and white colour scheme, which would bring out the masthead
and the rest of the contents. I have decided that this image will be black and white,
however, the matchstick flame will remain in colour; this would be presented in the
next few slides where I will be presenting my final product. In addition, this magazine
would stick to a certain colour scheme that would the enhance the features of the
magazine, and with the main colours of: dark reds, black white and grey, I would be
able to achieve and resemble my magazine of inspiration ‘Kerrang’ and ‘RESPECT’
Furthermore, I wanted me magazine to present the likelihood of having an organised
layout which would be beneficial in anchoring my chosen target audience. Along with
the dark colour scheme that would amplify the magazine front cover to my target
audience of the male gender and that the content/context presented anchors in the
public eye to my magazine.
This image is what I will use for my
front cover, as the positioning and
colours will work well for my front
cover.
For my front cover, I also wanted
my model to be positioned in a way
that would relate to my magazine of
inspiration, and also bring out the
identification of my chosen genre of;
‘Hip-hop’
This image is what I will use for my
front cover, as the positioning and
colours will work well for my front
cover. Whereas in terms of my
second magazine, the use of this
main image would be quite
beneficial for my front as this image
is a good representation of my
chosen magazine ‘Rock’ genre, and
therefore aimed to my target
audience

In relation to my hand drawn draft, I decided to follow the layout and present my idea
on what I want my magazine double page spread to appear like. I want to stay with
the same colour scheme, however use different images that have a different pose and
may include props.
I wanted to include the verifications of the other photographs I took, as the colours
that my model used relate very well to my magazine colour scheme; as such from my
inspirational of ‘Billboard’ I wanted to include y inspiration and ideas gained to be
expressed and presented through the final outcome of my first magazine. As
presented in my hand drawn draft shown below, the use of the organised layout,
allowed me to achieve the aspect of achieving the full outcome of the additional
placement of two main images as, well as shooking the reader with the use of having
a lot of text. However, I may or may not use this colour scheme, as this could change
depending on the outcome of my DPS.
Similar to my hand drawn draft plan shown below, I have decided to choose this as my
main image on my double page spread as this would be a very useful way on the
identification of my magazine as well as its genre. By having a magazine that contrasts
with my previous magazine, my second magazine would have a different outcome on
what I would want to present to my public audience.
With my second magazine, I aimed to include and relate the colour scheme to my
inspiration gained from the inspirational magazines of ‘KERRANG’ and ‘RESPECT’ the
hand drawn draft below was the inspiration I gained when I did some background
research as to what my magazine would look like; although I will not be using the colour
scheme for my second magazine as, when panning and scanning I wanted to present
the location and organisation of the points of my components, that will go onto my front
cover magazine. My following my hand drawn draft shown below, I will be able to
achieve the aspect of having a magazine that would be able to layout and organise my
dps
Front Cover:
TeensRuleOverall, this is what my final outcome of my first magazine looks like. I am proud with the final outcome
of my product; along with the presentation of my hand drawn drafts and two images of my inspirational
magazine ‘Billboard’. I got this colour scheme ideas, from the use of the bright and vibrant colours that
made the magazine as a whole stand out. My model also makes the front cover stand out because, of
his bright coloured hoodie and dark coloured jeans, in which this enhanced the quality of the magazine
further. From following along the lines of my hand drawn drafts and my graphic layout, I then managed
to achieve the aspect of how my final magazine would looks like.
With the additional use of including the price, barcode and social media links, I was able to achieve the
full presentation of my magazine and how this would then anchor my public target audience to my first
magazine. From my inspirational magazine ‘Billboard’ I decided on following along the lines of making
my front cover resemble the genre of ‘hip-hop’ and have context that would anchor in the public target
audience of young to middle aged teenagers. Finally, I went for a gradient of a white on blue affect, as I
aimed to make the masthead, main image and headline stand out, as well as enhance the other
features. Also, in comparison to my second magazine (presented in the next slide) I wanted to express
the main image, by keeping the surrounding contents simple but also “out there” and due to the bright
coloured hoodie, the main images and masthead are enhances, and compliment the background very
well, which gives the identity that my first magazine is of the ‘hip-hop’ genre.
Front Cover:
RockStarsSince my second magazine is of the popular music genre of ‘Rock’, I decided on going for the theme of
black and white, which will then allow me to create and expose key features that would be eye-catching to
my target audience of young adults. Similar to the masthead in my first magazine, the gradient effect also
made my second magazine stand out really well, I then decided to choose font styles that would amplify the
front cover to my aimed target audience, as well as using the same model; but instead, as shown in my
‘Photographs’ slide, I edited the image in photoshop and with the use of the quick selection tool, I selected
the image, and with the edit of ‘Subtract from Selection’ I outline the the image around the match flame and
change the theme of the image from colour to black and white. I am really proud with my final product of my
second magazine, as the design and layout is unique and anchoring to the public to my target male
audience. Overall I got this inspiration from two magazines of the ‘Rock’ genre to inspire me with the layout,
colour scheme and rock artist ideas for my front cover.
In comparison to my first magazine, this magazine is aimed mainly to my chosen target audience of the
male genre as such, there is additional content and context onto the magazine and therefore anchor the
public to read it. From the magazines of inspiration shown below; which are both of the ‘Rock’ genre and
follow a colour scheme of dark colours which are then enhanced by the bright colours; for example the reds
and the greens. Therefore the magazine as a whole relates to my magazines of inspiration, because of the
contrast of the colours and the colour scheme of the blacks and greys which then amplify the masthead and
bring out the main image; in which I wanted the public to be drawn to, to reveal the identity that my second
magazine is of the ‘Rock’ genre.
Practice DPS Product: TeensRuleAs a part of my experimenting stage, I
decided to experiment and create a brief
layout in Photoshop as to what my DPS
for my first magazine would be like.
Although I originally thought that we had
to create both two magazine front covers
and two DPS with the use of Photoshop.
However, after working outside of
lessons, I decided to experiment and
present my first magazine practise DPS,
as well as following the layout of my
hand drawn and graphic layout.
I decided to make a practise of my first
magazine, as to justify the layout as a
whole and also identify any corrections
that i should make, in order to achieve
what my magazine should look like.
After creating this practise I have come
to the conclusion of altering and adding
some improvements that will make my
magazine relate more to my main genre
of ‘hip-hop’ and be more attractive to the
public, of my aimed target audience.
The image example below is how I got
my inspiration for my first magazine
double page spread.

After planning and creating what my final double page spread would look resemble very well to my chosen
magazine ‘TeensRule’ which has been inspired by the magazine ‘Billboard’ the final result of this magazine,
indicated the type of magazine that this would be suitable for.
Along with the vibrant colour scheme and the organised layout, this would therefore anchor my chosen target
audience of the teenagers.
DPS Product: RockStars
From the magazine double page spread
shown below, I decided to follow a similar
layout, as presented in my hand drawn
drafts and graphic layout, I aim to create a
practise double page spread, in which I
could demonstrate how I can achieve the
outcome I want, as well as plan any possible
changes to make my DPS relate to my
inspirational of ‘RESPECT’ and ‘KERRANG’
The final outcome presented on the right is a
rough example of what I want to aim for with
my second magazine.
I wanted to create an example of what my
dps for my second magazine as this would
help me with any alterations that would
make this magazine stand out and anchor
the public to my target audience, as well as
relate to my chosen music genre of ‘Rock’.
In addition, creating a practise double page
spread, this would help me when planning
my final product, similar to the example
shown below.
From my inspirational magazine of ‘KERRANG’ and ‘RESPECT’ I decided to create a magazine which relates of
my magazines of inspiration. For example, I was inspired by the colour scheme that ‘RESPECT’ presents, which
enhances the eye-catching Masthead along with the rest of the content around the main image. In addition, the
main image was also inspired by ‘RESPECT’; however, I wanted a certain area of my chosen final main image,
to have a pop of colour that would bring out the main image; as shown in my final example, I made the whole
image white and grey and left the candle in colour. This was very useful and helpful way to present that my
magazine was of the ‘Rock’ genre.
Furthermore, I also got my layout and organisation plan from my second magazine of inspiration ‘KERRANG’.
From this magazine, the way that the production lays out their content is very simple however anchoring to the
public. Therefore, with my ‘RockStars’ magazine, I wanted to involve the use of having an organised context with
the same/similar font styles and font size, and also contain a relative colour scheme; as well as the effect that
the main image is placed in front of the masthead.
With the effectiveness of searching interesting font styles; for instance, the website of: ‘Dafont.com’, I was then
able to experiment with the different types of font styles that symbolise the ‘Rock’ genre quite well and therefore
incorporate them into my magazine front cover. For my magazine, I decided to choose the font styles of: The
Blacklist, Rockout, White on Black and Enter the Grid. In which these font styles helped me present a simple, but
eye-catching and unique magazine front cover.
From my magazines of inspiration, which are shown below, I decided on focusing their layout of organisation and
the layout of the their colour scheme. Because of this, I was able to sum up how my final magazine front cover
would look like. Therefore, for my final magazine, I decided to combine the two and create a magazine that
presents a unique and organise original design.

Production Process of ‘RockStars’
Magazine
STEP ONE
1. Open up Adobe Photoshop CC 2015.5 and go to; ‘File, New, International Paper, A4, RGB Colour and OK
2. Before I began editing and creating my magazine front cover, I needed to create a border in which I will be able to position my Main Image,
Masthead, Cover Lines etc. I achieved this by pressing ‘Cmd R’, which then presented the ruler border, by clicking and dragging on the ruler
I was able to align my border for my magazine front cover. After template and borders have been created, I wanted my background to have a
gradient effect. Therefore, with the use of the ‘Gradient Tool’, by pressing ‘G’ and holding shift, I dragged my mouse from the top of my
template to the base while holding down shift. This helped me create a straight line, which resulted in the gradient effect of black and white.
In the next stage of this LO. I must represent my step by step guide as to how I created my magazine front cover.
Each step will be accompanied with a screenshot as to reveal the appearance of the stages of my production.

STEP TWO
1. After taking multiple images of my model, I chose my final image and opened it on a separate template. Selecting the quick selection
tool, I selected the main image leaving a small gap around the candle flame (which is what I wanted to keep in colour) and went to;
‘Image, Adjustments, Black and White.
2. I deselected my image and again with the ‘Quick Selection tool’ I selection the entire image of my model and copied (Cmd C) and pasted
it onto my background (Cmd V) onto a new layer name ‘MAIN IMAGE’. Along the ‘Move tool’ (M), I moved my image and placed it in the
centre of my magazine template.

STEP THREE
1. The next stage in creating my magazine front cover was inserting my magazine masthead/ brand name: ‘RockStars’. However, I wanted
my masthead to present my chosen music genre of ‘Rock’. Therefore, with the helpful website ‘DaFont.com’ I was able to search and
experiment with different font styles that would relate very well to my magazine front cover. After experimenting with a variety of different
font styles, I finally chose the font style ‘The Blacklist’ which in my opinion presented the rock vibe.
2. When I inserted my masthead, I wanted to present the inspiration that I gained from my two inspiration magazines: ‘KERRANG’ and
‘RESPECT’, therefore, I decided to place my main image in front of the masthead, by: Going into layer and dragging the ‘Main Image’
layer and placed it below my ‘Masthead’ layer. The final results depict the inspiration that I gained to the magazine ‘RESPECT’
3. With my ‘Masthead’ layer, I double clicked on the layer and edited the; ‘Texture, Inner/ Outer Glow, Inner and Outer Shadow’ etc. Until I
came with the outcome that I wanted on my front cover.

STEP FOUR
1. Next, with a simpler font style, I created a new layer; which I labelled ‘STRAPLINE’ and after getting inspired from other magazine
straplines, I decided to create my known strapline that would be simplistic but out there.
2. I decided that with my ‘ANCHORAGE TEXT’ layer, I wanted to include an eye- catching title that would draw the public to the front cover.
3. However, with my ‘COVERLINE’ layers I experimented with the different coloured text, by staying within my colour scheme of; Black, White,
Grey and Red. Therefore I created five different cover lines, each containing a maximum of two font colours and having the same font style.

STEP FIVE
1. I also decided to include a ‘PUFF PROMOTION’ in which I got inspired from the magazine ‘KERRANG’, with the indication of “WIN” and this
would therefore attract the public eye, as I tried to follow the layout of my magazine.
2. Finally, I added a barcode accompanied with; social media icons, web address, issue date and price. I also added an additional white box,
which enhanced the visibility and quality of the magazine front cover further.
3. After following my hand drawn draft and graphic layout, I managed to achieve the final result of my magazine front cover. As the borders
were a very useful way of helping me. I presse Cmd. H to hide the borders. This then presented me with a clear and clean end result, and
because of this, the alignment of my content was straight and organised.

1. By starting with the same ‘International Paper’ layout, I was able to create the dps canvas by doubling the canvas size.
2. After creating the canvas size, I then create a rough border of the magazine dps, by pressing ‘Ctrl R’ - the ruler tool, in which I was
able to create a successful border around my magazine and then with the ‘Rectangular Marquee tool’ and with the ‘Subtract from
selection’ I drew the outline and with the ‘Paintbrush tool’ I then paint the selected area.
3. Once I completed that I pressed ‘Ctrl H’ which hides the blue ruler outline, which I was therefore able to see the neat border.

1. As shown in the following screenshots, I align each form of text to have the same
width from each other, as each paragraph resembled a new layer.
2. However with the text on the right, I had to change the format and also align each
paragraph to be equal from the text on the left.
3. Each layer of text contained the same font style of ‘Arial’ and the same text size of
roughly between ‘9 and 12’
4. As presented in the last screenshot on the left, I decided to add a quote from the artist,
which is indicated in bright blue, I also did this with the same font size and font style.
5. After I completed my dps, I pressed ‘Ctrl H’ to hide to blue ruler outline, which then
helped me see the final resulted
6. I finally saved the finished product as a ‘PSD’ (Photoshop Format) and as a JPEG
format (flatten image of all the layer)
7. As shown on the left, this is the final product of my DPS for my second chosen
magazine ‘RockStars’
How have I altered my Final ProductWith the final outcome of my magazine front cover, I wanted my content to focus on my chosen
music genre of ‘Rock’ and therefore appeal to my target audience. With the use of an organised
layout, I will be able to achieve what my magazine is trying to portray.
After planning what changes I could alter to my front cover, I have decided to narrow down the
spacing as to having the context being the same font style and size, yet however contain a
variation of colours that would resemble my colour scheme
I also decided to alter the appearance by having a decent amount of magazine features that
would anchor my target audience of male adults around my target age range of 16 to 22 year
olds. With the usefulness of include popular logos; such as ‘Beats’ that would suit my magazine
quite well and enhance the colour scheme of my magazine. However, my before graphic design
of my ‘ROCKSTARS’ front cover (as shown in the bottom left) I decided to involve a range of
bright colours that would compliment the front cover as a whole. Although, during the editing
process, I decided to alter my graphic layout to appear more suitable to the public eye; with a
simplistic approach, however an appearance of complexity.

As a part of this course, I was told to create and design a backpage
advertisement. Although this would be placed at the back of my magazine, I
wanted to keep the style and content simple but effective towards my target
audience.
From the previous photographs that I took for my double page spread and front
cover; I found numerous photographs that gave me a variety of ideas that
would be interesting for a advertisement
I decided to choose this photograph as this for a advertisement of a Canon
camera as well as staying within the same colour scheme to my front cover, as
shown below.
Along with the gained inspiration from a different magazine (in the bottom left), I
wanted to keep the content, colours and caption simple however very
eye-catching.
Backpage Advertisement
RockStars
Similar to my first magazine, I also wanted to keep the content simple but
appeal to my target audience.
I wanted to go towards the mens fashion side for this magazine advertisement
as such the grey hoodie works really well to the fashion company ‘YSL’ and the
black and white gradient effect.
Along with the inspiration gained from the magazine of inspiration ( as shown in
the bottom left), the layout is well organised and links very well to the front
cover; therefore, with my magazine front cover I wanted to stay within the
boundaries my magazine.
Backpage Advertisement - Step by Step - Step One
1. With the use of Adobe Photoshop 2015.5 I created a new format with the selection of ‘International Paper’
2. Before I began creating my advertisement, I had to create limited boundary/ border round my magazine. By pressing ‘Ctrl/ Cmd R’ this
then created a ruler scale, and with my mouse I then placed the light blue lines around my magazine to create the border.
3. By selecting the ‘Gradient Tool’ on the left-hand side toolbar, I selected the black to white gradient effect.
4. To create the effect (as shown above) I started off the template and dragged down by holding ‘Shift’ (which keeps the line straight) until
I reached about half a centimeter from the bottom and this then created the final result as shown above.

Printing Quotes and Cost https://print24.com/uk/product/magazines/
As each magazine will cost £20.35 to print and produce, this may affect the costing
price of the printing 2000 copies of my magazine every month.
Overall, this may have an impact on the profit and loss that the company have
benefit from this, or may have a problem with. Along with no additional properties
added to the magazine, such as: what the ‘Refinery Cover’ will look like.
With the reasonable pricing of printing each magazine individually, this could affect
the profit gained from selling the magazine every month.
In addition, having my magazine produced and delivered within a suitable time and
within the UK will be beneficial with the monthly issue date for the magazine.
Each magazine
will cost a
Total of £20.35
By selling a total of
2000 copies of the magazine
The Total price will cost
£1,832.63
With the price of producing and printing 2000 copies every month, this may affect
profitable money gained that the money loss. From each magazine costing £20.35 to
print and having to produce 2000 copies will result in the expensive price shown
above of £1,832.63 with the additional cost of the delivery. However, the company
have a slight advantage of the having the magazines produced and delivered in the
UK; similar to the production of each magazine individually.
With the reasonable pricing of £1,800.00 + is due to the features that will included
into each magazine; for instance, the glossy property cover and the matt contents,
with the additional coated art paper would help with the distribution of the magazine.
Distribution to Retailer
I plan to sell and distribute my
magazine in popular companies that
will attract the public, such as
WHSmith, and local supermarkets
such as; Sainsbury's, Tesco and M&S.
If possible collaborate with other
magazine companies such as
‘Kerrang’ and ‘Mojo’
As shown in the pie chart below, the
average amount of the population who
chose their favourite genre, resulted
in: ‘Kpop’, ‘Pop’ and ‘R&B’. Therefore
this will allow me to understand the
average likelihood of what today’s
population magazine music genre they
prefer.
http://www.frontlinedistribution.co.uk
In conclusion, the distribution (also shown above) as to the collaboration of different
retailers will help me distribute my magazine over a wider variety.

The table shown below is a presentation of the breakdown of what the production and is possible the
distribution of my magazine; as such, what my magazine contains, the pricing of how much the production of
this feature will cost, the amount need for this feature and the total cost of how much the company must pay in
order to achieve the full completion of the magazine. With the use of the ‘Advertising Rates’ table, as indicated
on the right, this allowed me with the advantage and usefulness of how the production and key features a
magazine company needs, in order to achieve the production and distribution of selling a magazine.
Profit and Loss Breakdown
Background Advertising Marketing Equipment Cost
My magazine will have a
buying cost of £3.50 and
therefore with this
affordable price would
increase profit in the
distribution of copies sold.
As for a magazine costing a
reasonable price, the
advantage of selling roughly
2000 copies of my
magazine monthly,the
result in having 1500 copies
sold, will result in 500
copies loss of not being
distributed.
Furthermore, as presented
in the ‘Pricing’ column, the
printing quotes and the cost
of the magazine will cost a
price of £20.35 each, which
will result in the
achievement of buying and
distributing 2000 copies of
the magazine will result in
the total cost of £1,832.63.
Each magazine that would
be sold in ideal locations
that would be suitable for
the magazine will cost
£3.50 to buy, which will
result in the profit of £7,000
I plan to distribute my
magazine in popular
locations, for instance;
WHSmith and local
supermarkets such as ‘Tesco’
and ‘Sainsbury’s’
Along with the distribution of
my magazine being sold in
local areas, I plan to sell my
magazine in the mail, as well
as download from the
magazine international
website.
Due to this, the magazine
would increase in profit as of
the £3.50 pricing. Although
advertising my magazine
would be a challenge the use
of distributing my magazine in
popular locations and other
branches that could increase
the profit of the magazine,
this would result in the
beneficial indication of the
magazine and help the
company and the production
of the magazine itself.
Therefore, the total overall
cost of advertising the
magazine will equal a total of
£230,683.
With a helpful magazine
production company, the
advantage of Marketing the
magazine would also increase
the profit and the distribution
of the amount of magazines
being sold each month every
year. However with only 2000
copies of the magazine being
produced and distributed; the
Marketing and Finance
member will have the
advantage of indicating the
magazine in a variety of
different locations; online and
in store.
Along with the usefulness of
an organised magazine
production team; having a
‘Marketing and Finance’ team
and team leader, will allow the
magazine to have a positive
outcome profit of creating
awareness and social
interaction to boost the profit
and sales of the magazine.
Finally, the distribution of the
magazine would include the
retail costs of where I could
sell my magazine and
increase the profit gained.
By planning and
contributing the price of
the production of the
magazine, this would
result in the amount and
pricing plan of how much
the production of the
magazine will cost and
the result of the
distribution will cost.
Pricing
● Along with the payment weekly salary
of the staff,
● Costing price of the production of the
magazine
● Costing of how much each magazine
costs
● The standard delivery of 2000 copies
The pricing of the production company of
producing the magazine will result in the the
advantage of profiting from the magazine,
however the loss of affording how the
magazine will be produced and distributed.
Along with the additional production of the
magazine and the costing of the printing
quotes and cost, the magazine company would
loss profit, due to the high pricing of printing
2000 magazines, and printing each magazine
individually.
Along with the pricing of the equipment cost,
the profitable loss will have an effect on the
overall loss that the magazine company will
gain and will lose in the span of one year.
As shown in the next slide, the overall
breakdown of the how much the company will
profit from and what the company will lose
money from.

  • 3. Colour Scheme My magazine would have will have a colour scheme of Red, Green and Blue because, my first magazine was inspired by the magazine ‘Billboard’ which use a range of bright and vibrant colours which anchor the public to view their magazine. Also, my magazine will include most of their bright and vibrant colours to enhance the inspiration of the magazine ‘Billboard’, such as the example shown below, my magazine ‘TeensRule’ which is aimed to both the male and female gender. The hand drawn draft presented on the right, is what my final outcome of my first magazine should look like. With the combination of the simple and complimentary colours, this would amplify the magazine and become interesting to the public. The colour of a bright red, with amplify the masthead to the public because of the black bold text. The colour green connotes the enhancement of the magazine by bringing the features indicated, for example the pull quote, this suggests that this would attract the public to read the magazine. The colour red, connotes the amplification of the masthead, as such of the white text, which would draw in consumers to the relative content. Finally, the colour of a dark blue would notify the reader about the main headline, related to the musical industry, also by placing the main headline in the center of the magazine, the qualification of the main image, would bring out the use of the headline to the public. Font Style My magazine font style would be in the font known as ‘Gunplay’ because, this will enhance the background colour(s) of the magazine on the; front and back cover, along with the text shown on a double page spread. This font is clear to read with the need for hesitation and the bold text also enhance the quality of the magazine, such as the features on the magazine cover, for example; the cover lines and the pull quote. Social Media The social media links along with the website address, will be placed at the back of the magazine in the barcode, because, by having my magazine with a decent amount of feature to anchor the public to read the magazine. Also, this is a result of Technical Convergence which is; ‘The company presents. Wide range of social interactions, along with a variety of different products, such as paperback products (magazines) and digital products (online update/websites).’ This is an example of technical convergence because, my magazine includes a wide variety relating to the paperback product, this also relates to the convergence of online, because of the website address contained within the barcode along with the price and issue date. Straplines An Indication of what the magazine may contain or a brief small paragraph about the background of the magazine that would inform the public about the magazine and therefore anchor them to the front cover. • 4. House Style - RockStarsColour Scheme To resemble my inspired magazine ‘RESPECT’ and ‘KERRANG’ I have decided to alter the colours used in my hand drawn draft shown below, by changing the colours to the use of black and white, because, my second magazine would relate more the male gender. By doing so, this will allow me to enhance the quality of the magazine more, with the use bold and large green text for my magazine brand, along with the background colour of grey, this magazine would interest the male public, as the magazine is eye-catching however, not so out there, in comparison to the first magazine. With the simplicity of the three colours of; grey to connote the masthead and enhance the brand name, black and white images overall colour of the magazine would interest the male gender, because the magazine does not contain colours that overwhelm the public, and finally red to underline the or outline the borders of the content on the magazine, for example, the cover lines and anchorage text. Font Style I want my second magazine to interest the male public. Therefore I have decided on the font style of ‘The Blacklist’ because, in my opinion, this font would resemble the boy gender of today’s society. With this type of font, the masthead (brand name) will be enhanced by the green colour and the grey background, which would relate the male gender, along with the primary use of black, grey, white and red as to enhance the simplicity however, professional look, that would anchor the male public to read the magazine. Social Media By also relating my magazine with the use of most common social media of; Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, the public can be notified on the latest issue release, gossip and background information in relation to the musical industry. By providing the public with social media links on the front cover, barcode or contents page, with the release of every issue, subscribers are constantly notified, due to the visual imagery and the bright colours. Straplines These can act as a slogan to inform the reader about the magazine, they can be a short sentence which can explain why this magazine is popular or what the magazine relates to in terms of the musical industry

  • 7. For my first magazine, I have decided on choosing this is as my first magazine flat plan, this is because of the well organised layout that would attract the public to read the magazine. With my front cover and back cover, I would include my own images, in which a close friend of mine would model with his musical instruments. With the use a magazine flat plan, I can easily understand, what would go in each double page spread and also understand the anchoring features that would draw the public of my target audience to the magazine My vibrant main images and interesting text would relate to my chosen music genre of hip-hop and rock as well as content that would be relevant for this type of magazine, as such by including a variety; for example, interviews and music reviews. • 8. Magazine Flat Plan Explanation - RockStars For I would have a similar number of pages because, my magazine would be released as a monthly issue, each double page spread, will include an even amount of context and images, that would interest the reader due to the images relating to the context. In this magazine flat plan, similar to my ‘TeensRule’ I have included my created double page spread (as shown below) which I have design to go in my magazine. Along with my design front cover, that would include and image/ images that I have taken from a friend who will be modeling my front cover, with content that would relate to my music genre of hip-hop and rock. • 9. My interview has been inspired by the magazine Billboard. I would like to create an interview in the various different ways, such as different questions and answers. The use of including an interview in my magazine, will attract the public readers to it because, of the revealing background information about the artist. Mostly the late night shows with all the bright lights and loud music. I receive even small gifts I get from all the cute little ones. But really, I do need a pillow, some snacks and water of course because I gotta keep yourself hydrated. And whenever I go on tour it is just like non-stop rehearsals and interviews; but to be honest I love interviews more than rehearsals and that’s why I need my energy and nutrients… Also, my phone is my most needed essential. I always have a few minutes before I go onstage and after the show, before I go on the bus or head off to an interview; I manage to send a text my close friends, my girlfriend or a family member, and see how they are doing. Oh that one is easy, as addictive as this may sound and many may agree with me, I must have my phone on me, because, no matter how my day is going, I will always have enough time to text or call my family and friends; chat on the updates on the latest family news along with my own updates on where I am on tour, where I will be going, and if I got them a few gifts. My phone is my most needed essential, besides listening to tunes and scrolling through Facebook and twitter, I do have a little spare time to listen to an audiobook while planning my next music piece. Q6. That’s really sweet Theo. (Theo smiles) So when you travel, what do you really miss when you go on tour? Every time I go on tour to a new country and onstage to see all my fans; after the concert I really miss their smiling faces and sometimes hear the out of tune singing voices (chuckles)..… but, the saddest thing about going on tour is that it feels like I only have a limited amount of time with them, then leave the next day or the day after; it can vary sometimes depending on how busy my schedule is, but (sighs) it’s a shame that I probably might not see many of them for a very long time. (pauses) Q7. I see, but to lighten the mood a little. (Theo smiles) I have heard that many other celebrities bring a surprise guest to appear on stage at a few of their concerts. Will you be bringing any surprise celebrities? I am really tempted to tell you guys who I’m bringing to appear on stage at my concert in California, but I’m trying not to give any spoilers but, I might be bringing a few people to appear on stage, maybe on this upcoming tour I might have someone appear. But I also like to get myself a little croissant here and there (laughs). But mainly, I would like to extend the time by a few days, cause it would be nice to explore and meet new people, or run into familiar faces. Q10. Do you ever get any worries when you go on tour? In my opinion, I worried fifty percent of the time. And to be honest, on stage I’m afraid that I would fall, and probably rip my pants or break my mic. (Gives an embarrassed expression) But when traveling or before I set of, I check the news and I sometimes see car accidents or an update on bad weather, and I’m afraid that I may encounter an accident and start to panic a little. • 10. What will you ‘Repeat’ (Steve Neale - 1980) Front Cover - TeensRules On my first magazine, which is called ‘TeensRule’ and has been inspired by the magazine ‘Billboard’, I would keep the font style of the magazine the same, because, this would result in the uniqueness of the magazine as a whole. The font style I have been using was inspired by the website ‘Dafont’; which consisted on a variety of the different font styles. Eventually, I ended on the font style of; ‘Gunplay’ which would portray a sense of enlightenment as to how this magazine would stand out to the public, from the other magazines. I would also keep the location of certain key features at the front of my magazine, for example; the bold writing of the text which would amplify the magazine to the eyes of the public, also the location of the cover lines and the barcode, because this would be more reachable to the reader as this would allow them to gain full access to the key information presented; such as the price of the magazine, and the latest news and updates in relation to the music industry. The text side would also be repeated, therefore a decent amount of information will onto the front cover, without overwhelming the reader. And to enhance the text information, the use of the bold bright colours as shown below would be repeated with every issue of the magazine, resulting in a more recognisable appearance as well as the masthead. However I would keep the location of the masthead the same but only when my front cover includes one main image (one artist) With many of my issues, I would keep this the same because, I want the magazine front cover to be eye-opening to the public; with the sense of creating a unique and probably irresistible anchorage to the magazine. Finally, I would repeat the location of the social media links as such of the enhancement of the vibrant colours that would amplify the; masthead, main image and social media links. “For Media texts to be successful, they must have elements of ‘Repetition’ and ‘Difference’” From my magazine of inspiration, I will use Steve Neale’s idea and repeat the location and positioning of the Masthead as this would identify to the public about the magazine brand and how this its organised layout will resemble the music industry. Also on the masthead, I would repeat the conventions of the colour scheme as this would enhance the quality of the magazine as of the bright colours would amplify the application of the key features such as the cover lines, strapline and the monthly headline. I would also repeat the use of the pull quote, as of its location and status. This would amplify the quality of the magazine as such of its purpose to attract the reader.
  • 11. What will you ‘Repeat’ (Steve Neale - 1980) DPS - TeensRule I would preferable repeat the layout of my DPS as this would give a sense and realisation that the layout would interest the reader, as of the well organised arrangement and design of the magazine double page spread. I would repeat the use of colour, as this would also intrigue the eyes of the public as of the combination of text and images that would anchor the reader into reading the content. However in my hand drawn drafts, most of the colours used, will be repeated throughout the magazine, as of a identification on the key features. For example, the magazine headline, would be kept the same; to amplify the reader about the contents that would be contained within the double page spread. As similar to the pull quote, this will anchor the reader as to what the magazine double page spread would have in relation the headline. Also, shown in my graphic layout as shown below, this layout represents a simpler version as to how the organisation of the magazine would be presented to the reader. In every issue release of my monthly magazine, this layout out of my double page spread, would be found near the beginning of the magazine, because of the continuous repetition of the organisation as to how the magazine would be exploited to the viewer’s eyes. As this double page spread would be contained within every issue of the magazine, the amplification the simplistic colours would uphold an attract to the headline/ main story and to the text; as this can vary depending on the information presented. The colour scheme shown below is an example of what would be included in the magazine. The use of the two simplistic, would be Steve Neale’s use of ‘Repetition as of the repetition of the double page spread layout, along with the repetition of small details such as: website address, masthead - brand name and social media links. Headline Text Text 6 7 Pull Quote From my magazine of inspiration, I plan to use the repetition of the the location of the masthead and the cover lines, as this would connote the continuous coordination on the layout of the double page spread. Similarly I would repeat the colour scheme based on this dps, and therefore you this to my advantage on my own magazine and therefore, make this stand out to anchor the reader into viewing my magazine.
  • 12. What will you ‘Repeat’ (Steve Neale - 1980) Layout - TeensRule In my first magazine, I would repeat the layout of the magazine because, subscribers and viewers would also have the chance to understand the layout of the magazine and give them quick access as to the variety of the different pages, with the exception of the different information presented with every new monthly issue release. The organised layout, would be repeated with every new issue, as such of the location on my main DPS, because the content page would repeat the same layout and identify the location as to where the reader wants to skip to. Along with the repetition of the colour scheme to the entire magazine would be repeated as such of the presentation of its uniqueness and how the bright colours would make the magazine stand out from the others.
  • 13. What will you ‘Different’ (Steve Neale - 1980) Front Cover - TeensRule However, with my first magazine, I would differentiate the organisation of what is on the magazine. For example, f my main image consists of two artists, the organisation of the key features presented on the magazine would be altered to enhance the quality of the magazine and reveal the popular artists, which would relate to most of the information contained within/ throughout the magazine. I would also recommend that, with every new issue the layout of my magazine front cover would have an altered perspective of the, for example, if my magazine front cover has two artists, the Masthead would be placed horizontally across the top of the magazine and the headline/ strapline would be placed directly underneath, as well as there would no a frequent indication of there being a pull quote; as this would overwhelm the reader because of the due to a large amount of information that would be crammed into one confined space.
  • 14. What will you ‘Different’ (Steve Neale - 1980) DPS - TeensRule In the circumstance of my first magazine, the main feature that I would change, would probably have to be the altering of the information the given, as although my double page spread would have the same layout with every issue release, I would change what content/ context would go on the magazine double page. For example, my first magazine release would contain, an artist interview along with main images of that artist as well as a pull quote of what they said and some additional information underneath would the artist. And with my next issue, I would have the alternative of the changing the headline to a different topic along with the rest of the layout of the double page spread, because, although this DPS would be repeated in every new release, the informational content would have a different perspective on the what context would be presented on the pages.
  • 15. What will you ‘Different’ (Steve Neale - 1980) Layout - TeensRule I would mainly alter the information that I would present within each magazine, and the information given would interest the viewer or a subscriber to the magazine to read my magazine. For instance on one of my double page spread, say for example, pages 10 & 11, I would alter the competition as in; trips, and rewards. By doing this I will be able to differentiate the perspective as to what the public want in the magazine. However, by not changing the layout of the magazine, this will allow me to achieve the content would be easily accessible to the public, as of the contents page would allow them to quickly and easily access the content they want. Furthermore, this would take away most of the magazine’s uniqueness as of the continuous repetition of the magazine the repetition of the colour scheme, the content presented should interest the reader, by anchoring them to the written verbal content of interviews and the main headline, as well as the non- verbal content of the main images. Although, with the practise of creating a front cover and a double page spread, I will be able to achieve the aspect of understand the process of the production of a magazine.
  • 16. What will you ‘Repeat’ (Steve Neale - 1980) Front Cover - RockStars Masthead Main Headline Barcode Main Image Puff Promotion Cover lines Anchorage Text Cover lines As my second magazine was inspired by the male targeted ‘RESPECT’ I would like to repeat their layout of the magazine, as for their continuous use of the location of many of their key features, such as the masthead stretch across the top of the magazine and the main headline/ strapline directly underneath. I would also repeat the positioning of the cover lines, as this magazine is targeted to the male gender, the content on the front cover, would attract the public to read the magazine, along with the repetitive use of the colour scheme as shown below and the bold text; similar to my first magazine and would enhance the quality of the magazine further, my second magazine would have an interest of what would be aimed towards the male gender. I would also repeat the position of the magazine front cover: as shown in the final graphic layout, my second magazine would have relevant and appropriate content that would draw men to the magazine.
  • 17. What will you ‘Repeat’ (Steve Neale - 1980) DPS - RockStars Text 14 15 HeadlineAnchorage Text With my double page spread, I would repeat the use of the positioning of the Headline and of the text, as this would amplify how the magazine brand is portrayed to anchor the reader to the magazine. With the use of Steve Neales’ Repetition, similarly to my double page spread of my first magazine, I would repeat the layout as of the positioning of the magazine, I would also repeat the placement of the headline and the text. This would anchor the male gender the context of the magazine and read it. The use of this repetition, would interest the reader, due to its bright and vibrant colours that would be eye-catching to the reader, in contrast to the rest of the magazine. However, in the hand drawn draft shown in the bottom right corner, I would not consider the use of the colours scheme, as such for this magazine, the male gender would prefer the use of dark colours such as; grey, black and white. Although the example on the bottom left corner, the layout of the double page spread is more clear and understanding as to how I would want to present the magazine to the male sex. I would repeat the subject of the headline, in relation to the music industry; more likely towards the male gender, as of its likelihood of pulling the reader towards the magazine. In addition, the point I am trying to get across is that, this dps that I would repeat with every issue release of the magazine, I would repeat the topic on the dps; for example, competition or interview.
  • 18. What will you ‘Repeat’ (Steve Neale - 1980) Layout - RockStars Key DPS: Pages 14 & 15 Patrice Insua 5107 = Images= Front and Back Cover With the magazine flat plan shown, I would repeat most of the double page spreads; as such of my main dps: 14&15. With a magazine that would aimed towards the male public, I would like to repeat most of the plan, as this would anchor the read a little more, similar to my first magazine, due to the quick and easy access to the magazine, in relation to the contents page, this use of Steve’s ‘Repeat’ the public would allowed to have quick and easy access to what the men want to see. I would also repeat the layout of most of the images as this would draw in the reader to what the magazine is trying to get across, as this magazine, along with my first magazine, I would like to have the repetition of most of my images, to connote that my second magazine is mainly aimed towards the male public. The main features that I would repeat would to be; ● The features of the Front and back cover, as these would notify the reader that this magazine is mainly aimed to the men. ● Contents and New issue pages, as this would help the male public with the identification of the release of the next issue, and the location of the different pages within the magazine.
  • 19. What will you ‘Different’ (Steve Neale - 1980) Front Cover - RockStars With my second magazine, The front cover would have very little changes as this magazine is aimed to the male gender, I want the layout of the front cover to anchor my target audience of the male gender to the be drawn to the magazine front cover, as well as keeping most of my front cover features. However, with every new issue release my magazine would have a different outcome, therefore this would interest the male public, as of the alterations with every new magazine release. The first feature that I would change is the the orientation of the Puff Promotion as this would alter the justification of drawing in the reader. Also, I would alter the positioning of where the barcode would go, as this would distract the reader for what the music magazine is trying to portray, therefore with most of my issue most of my issue releases, I would have the barcode placed on the back cover. Masthead Main Headline Barcode Main Image Puff Promotion Cover lines Anchorage Text Cover lines
  • 20. What will you ‘Different’ (Steve Neale - 1980) DPS - RockStars Text 14 15 HeadlineAnchorage Text I would differentiate the use of the context, as this is the most important part when my double page spread would be repeated throughout the magazine, this is because, as shown in my hand drawn drafts I would differentiate the colours used, due to the theme of black, grey and white, the layout of my double page spread would have the colours of grey and white, with the outline of red and black which would enhance its features and therefore attract the male public to the magazine. Also similar to my first magazine, I would keep the layout of my DPS the same, however, I would alter the presentation of the context of the magazine, because my magazine would have a monthly issue release the information and presentation should vary in relation to the music industry. Finally, I would not really change very many of the features on my double page spread, except for the information and images that would be presented out the double page spread. In my second magazine, not very much information would be placed on my double page spreads as this magazine is mainly aimed towards the male public eye, as well as having information that would be appropriate and acceptable due to my age range target audience of 16 to 22
  • 21. What will you ‘Different’ (Steve Neale - 1980) Layout - RockStars Key DPS: Pages 14 & 15 Patrice Insua 5107 = Images= Front and Back Cover In the variation on the monthly magazine issue release, my magazine layout would vary, in the case of repetition of some double page spreads that may have the same or similar layout/ context in relation to the music magazine. In some cases I would differentiate the magazine flat plan every few months, as this would allow the reader to have enough time to adjust to the layout of the magazine before the next change. I have decided that the magazine flat plan would vary every few months because of the contents page, due to subscribers or reader have the accessible source to the location as to which the; competition, interview or questionnaire is located.

  • 23. Target Audience - Hartley’s Theory TeensRule Age Gender Class RockStars Age Gender Class With the use of Hartley’s theory, for my first magazine, I have decided to aim the content produced towards the young public between the age range of; 14 to 19. I have decided to choose this age range because, as my first magazine is aimed towards the young public, a young age range would anchor the public to that age range to the magazine, as the context would relate more towards them. Therefore, through a monthly issue release, the age range of 14 to 19 would be drawn into the magazine and in conclusion result in an appealing of young teenagers to be anchored into its content. As my first magazine is aimed to the young society of the world’s population, my first magazine would be aimed to both the male and female gender, as this magazine would contain content that would interest both genders. This magazine would have content that would anchor them both because of the context would be appropriate and relatable as of the verbal content presented, as well as the non-verbal content revealing an interest towards the male public. Although my magazine does not focus this as the key focal point, my magazine would relate to all the classes, as this will not cause any judgemental disagreements. However, most of the content that would be contained in the magazine would relate more towards the middle and upper class. In addition, my first magazine would not have it full attention on the class status, as my magazine is in relation to the musical industry, the content would not relate to the differentiation of the class status. As for my second magazine, the age range would resemble to the slightly older generation. I have decided to present my magazine and its content towards the age range of 16 to 22, I have decided on this age range, as my second magazine would contain information that would relate more to them. As of this age range, the public would be drawn into the magazine as of the verbal sna non verbal content, with the connotations of the headline, cover lines and the pull quote, In comparison to my first magazine which is aimed to both the male and female genders, my second magazine which is mainly a rock genre; the male public of my target audience will be attracted to this magazine, because of the more simplistic outcome of the front cover, as theme as well as the colours scheme, of white, grey and black would have enhance the masthead and main image of the front cover. Class is not really a key point of my second magazine as the content would be aimed to all classes. In addition the content presented would also have appropriate text that would not cause any disagreements or arguments that would relate to any of the classes.
  • 24. Target Audience - Maslow’s Theory TeensRule Explorers Survivors Social Climbers Caregivers RockStars Explorers Survivors Social Climbers Caregivers If the magazine becomes a likelihood interest would the target audience of the male and female gender. Many subscribers to the magazine would like to explore the different contents within the magazine; therefore my magazine would vary in the issue content for example, some issues would contain a competition, and the next issue would have an artist interview. As my magazine does not relate to any source of survival, except in the relation to the music genre, for example music taste of the rock genre. However, the beneficial cause for the production and selling of the magazine, the benefits of the money raised will go to a good cause. Similar to survivors, the beneficial cause of having a music magazine will allow the public to interact with the magazine; updates on social media sites. The positive side of Maslow’s Theory was that social climbers would given the chance to self motivate and interact with the music magazine as well as the rest of the public. Also, Maslow wanted to achieve his theory but bringing the public together. Due to my magazine being the basis of the musical industry. My magazine content would contain entertainment that would interest the reader. For example, competition, background information of an artist, within an interview. The male public will be allowed to have an interest in exploring the wide variety of the rock background. Also by having a magazine that would allow the public to explore the wide range of the background of the music rock genre. Similar to my first magazine, the explorers would have a likelihood of view the different perspectives of how the music industry presents the different sides of ‘Rock’ Due to my second magazine having the basis of rock; my second magazine would result in the helpfulness of having content that would relate to artists; for example, background information in interviews as well as rock artists with the interest of songs/ albums. In comparison to my first magazine the content would not have a relatively high interest on social standards. Because this magazine will be pointed towards the male public the social interaction would be lower than my first magazine. However, my magazine would contain content that would interest the male public. Although my second magazine is based on mainly ‘Rock’ most of content would provide information, in which Maslow wanted to achieve in some social interaction.
  • 25. Target Audience - Katz’s Theory TeensRule Inform & Educate Personal Identification Personal Relationship Diversion RockStars Inform & Educate Personal Identification Personal Relationship Diversion As of this magazine having a relative influence on both the male and female public, my first magazine would have the likelihood informing the public about the hip-hop music genre as well as educating the younger generation about the background of the musical industry. My first magazine would have the influence of public on their personal identification. For example, over few issues, my magazine would contain a personal Q&A/ Quiz on which they will be informed on who they relate; in terms of the music industry (artists). With my first magazine, I would have entertainment advantage of drawing in the public to my magazine; mostly this will be aimed to the young public eyes of 14-19. The Personal Relationship from the magazine to the consumer suggests that they their target audience to be immersed in the factual information given. My first magazine aims to present a publication as to which the interest of a relationship between the public and the magazine. Due to hip-hop genre, the magazine aims to interact with the public about the music industry. My first magazine aims to bring both the male and female genders together by having a similar contents that would interest them both. Also this magazine aims to avoid the separation, as of the context being an anchorage connotation towards the magazine, as well as what is contained within the magazine. Finally, the magazine wants to achieve the aspect of having a likelihood to its originality of the hip-hop genre. My second magazine would have the privilege of having a opinion to the ‘rock’ genre. This contents would have a perspective that would interest the male gender to read the magazine; along with the influence of having a specific advantage focal point, that would interest the male public to read the magazine. The information presented must be eye-catching towards the male public. As of the male gender. Personal identification should relate to men between my target age range of 16-22. With the limitations of providing information that would relate to only the male genre. My second magazine must provide information that would relate to my target male audience as well as having an anchoring front and back cover that would relate to male public. My second magazine must have a subjective influence as to the relationship between the magazine and the public, along with enhancing or accentuating the possibility of the personal relationship between the age range of my target audience. However, this magazine will be only aimed at the male gender; this provide a diversion as to the magazine having a separation between the male and female genders. Also, the social interaction would be less in comparison to my first magazine.
  • 26. Photos for TeensRule With my first magazine, I decided to go for complimentary colours that would enhance the quality of the magazine, along with the helpfulness of props that would identify the public that my first magazine would relate to the musical industry.
  • 27. Photos for RockStars Before I edited my images, my originals had the school logo. The nest slide presents how I altered the appearance. I achieved this through the use of the ‘Stamp Tool’ which helped me blend the logo with the rest of the image.
  • 28. Photos for RockStars: Edited In Photoshop, I edited the logo out of my models hoodie, this give the clothing more of a simplistic appearance. Which is what I am aiming for with my first magazine.
  • 29. TeensRule RockStars Evaluation of Photographs With my image, I decided to go for images that reveal a good presentation of my magazine and its hip-hop genre. The usefulness of the colours, red and blue are very good complimentary colours and therefore, enhance the quality of the magazine and make it stand out to the public eyes. As shown in the photograph, these colours can amplify the magazine as well as the masthead towards the young eye of my target audience of 14 to 19. In addition this may attract the usefulness of the ‘Female Gaze’; Diana Saco, by which the female gender may become more anchored to more than the male public. However, this magazine is aimed equally to both the male and female public. Furthermore the usefulness of having a boy model bright and eccentric colours, will draw the public to the magazine, as well as confirm an identity of the music genre. In conclusion, the theme of my first magazine is colourful, as a result, the bright and bold colours will compliment, or otherwise make the masthead and the rest of the feature on the magazine front cover and the contents within the magazine stand out to the young public. In comparison, my second magazine is aimed mainly towards the male gender public, as of the use of the dark colours that would complement the masthead very well, I also wanted to go for a backsplash that would be very easy for me to achieve and also edit my photographs in photoshop with the easy and accessible Adobe Photoshop CC 2015.5 With these images, I will be able to achieve the fulness of enhancing with the helpfulness of editing, I will be able to achieve the what the magazine is trying to portray, as this magazine is of the music genre of Rock, the dark coloured clothes will be able to amplify the magazine further towards to the male Public. Finally, the theme of my second magazine is black and white, Therefore with the use of deep dark colours, this would enhance the red masthead.
  • 30. Production Process Date of Publication Managing the Schedule Editorial and Budgetary Decision Content Acquisition The first thing to do is to set up the date of publication; the issue date of the magazine when it is released to the public. Once the date is established, you are now operating with a schedule. A schedule that is the plan as to how you are going to go about the production process and when of the process will occur. An extremely important step that should not be taken for granted, especially when it comes to the production of the magazine. If the magazine wants to be produced successfully, then the schedule must properly be managed. The schedule must be made in such as way that there are provisions for the certain mishaps that may occur. When these mishaps occur, you can always meet the deadline. This is the reason as to why a proper management of the schedule is very vital. The next step in the production of a magazine is the editorial decision. These involve the the magazine’s editorial team assembling and deciding on the topics that will be covered in the next issue. The editorial team is about talks about the various contents that make up the magazine. After deciding which article ideas/topics, new stories, illustrations and photographs, the team then make the budgetary decisions, but looking at how much money is available and how much money will be spent towards the production of the magazine. The content acquisition process is arguably the most important step, this is because without content, there would simply be no magazine in the first place. There are two major ways that content can be gathered. The first is through in-house staff writers (work inside the industry, eg. research) and the second is through external writer (news reporters) that are commissioned to write on the topics that are specialist in nature. At this stage, it is the artwork graphics which are also worked on. The artwork is also defined as illustrations and pictures that undergo this process and then placed in the magazine. In simpler ways, Graphics are the images/pictures that are designed with a computer program. https://hosbeg.com/the-magazine-production-process/
  • 31. Production Process (continued) Sub-editing Page Layout Proofreading Distribution Sub-editing focuses on one major priority, Quality Control. If the media organisation is large enough, to contain a sub-editor, then this person is going to be responsible for this job; if there is no sub-editor, then the editor does this job. This step involves the following; ● Checking the accuracy of all the facts in the article ● Making sure that words are properly spelled ● Grammar and Punctuation is used correctly ● All articles follow the house-style ● Working on the page layout In big publications, there is a special team that is responsible for the page layout; this team is known as the Layout staff. Their job is to typeset and layout the various pages that come together to make a magazine. In the performing of this task, the team uses a powerful Desktop Publishing Program (DPP/DTP) such as InDesign or Pagemaker. It is at this stage that Adverts from advertisers are placed into the content. After the page layout is complete, the next stage is to proofread. The editorial department will print out a hardcopy of the magazine for the sole purpose of reading through the magazine to find and correct any mistakes. It is easier to proofread a hardcopy than to proofread a soft copy Any mistakes that are spotted is quickly corrected on the DTP file. The editorial team keeps proofreading, until a member of the team is satisfied that all the mistakes have been corrected. The final stage of the entire process. With the printing company having finished with the continuous printing of the magazines, they are then packaged neatly and sent to a warehouse, for international transport and storage. After the magazines have been stored in the warehouse for a short amount of time, the copies are then taken out of the warehouse and distributed to the public, via the post or in a shop. https://hosbeg.com/the-magazine-production-pro cess/

  • 36. Calendar Events; Issue Date: 07/07/2018 Why? Why did I choose this Issue date? What could affect the issue date? Why would this date be appropriate for my target audience? Why would this magazine be suitable for this issue date? -For my first magazine, I decided to go for the issue date of a week or two into the summer holidays. I choose this date because my target audience, may or may not be quite active; this would therefore allow me to release my magazine to the public that would interest them to view my magazine, in the locations of a widely populated areas. The issue date of the summer break may increase the number of issues released and bought; therefore this may help the company with their increase in profit that would benefit the production process of the magazine. -Along with my second magazine, I also decided to choose the issue date of during the summer holidays because, this is when most of the population will be on vacation, and by selling a new product to the public may allow them a chance to review the music magazine. -As my first magazine is aimed at the young target audience of the ages 14-29, the date of release a few weeks into the summer holidays, would be suitable for those who would like to be entertained and also have an interest in the release of a new magazine would anchor the public to view my first magazine. By having my magazine released to the public on this date was because, of the content contained within my magazine would be interesting and also anchor the public to my magazine, as such the content would relate quite well to the theme of summer; due to the bright colours involved and the images include might also relate to the mood of summer. -As for my second magazine, my target audience for this magazine is aimed at the slightly older generation of the male public with the age range of 16-22, factors that may affect the date of release could be the effectiveness of the number of copies launched and sold. -With a young target audience, this may interest the viewer to read my magazine, because, of the genre: hip-hop; the young target audience may be attracted to the magazine, with the likelihood of the content, containing information that would entertain those who may be interested in music. As of the release of summer vacation, this issue date would be appropriate for my target audience because, teenagers would have the chance to gain inspiration, or to be entertained by the musical genre. -In comparison to my first magazine, this issue release date would also be suitable for the older male public as of the summer vacation season, this may allow them to have the entertainment of a music magazine with content that relates to the spectacle of the ‘Rock’ genre. -My target audience, which is normally based on the young generation of today’s population, is mostly likely to be interested along the musical aspect of information, in relation to the musical industry of hip-hop and pop music; in relations to the use of bold and bright colours, this magazine would be suitable for a launch date of a few weeks into summer vacation, the young public would be anchored into the magazine as well as its content. -With the theme of black and white, the slightly older generation is most likely to be anchored into a magazine that would have a release date of a few weeks into the summer holidays. By having a release date that is the same as my first magazine, this could provide the public with a variety of choice between the two magazines.
  • 37. Magazine Front Cover Images TeensRule RockStars For my first magazine, I decided to go for the photo shown below as my front cover. Because, this is was useful way for portraying my magazine genre of hip-hop. With the use of bright colours that compliment each other quite well, I would then be able to enhance the quality of my magazine front cover. For my first magazine, my chosen genre is hip-hop, and I wanted to go for a bright colour scheme that will make the front cover contents stand out to the public and therefore anchor them to read my magazine front cover. From my the helpfulness from my inspirational magazine: ‘Billboard’ I was then able to plan, produce and present what I am aiming for my final product to look like. Presented in the next few slides is what I have planned for my front cover and dps to look like and I also want to produce a magazine that resembles my inspiration and shows a confirmation of having a unique style. Finally, the colour scheme must also relate to my magazine of inspiration, therefore I chose the colours of red and blue and positioned my model in a way that would also make my magazine stand out to my aimed target audience of the middle ages teenagers; in which I decided to have my best friend model for my front cover. And by having this photo on the front cover of my first magazine, I will be able to achieve the aspect that my first magazine is of the ‘hip-hop’ genre. And for my second magazine, I wanted to go for a different perspective, in comparison to my hip-hop magazine, I went for a different genre of ‘Rock’. Therefore, I decided on a black and white colour scheme, which would bring out the masthead and the rest of the contents. I have decided that this image will be black and white, however, the matchstick flame will remain in colour; this would be presented in the next few slides where I will be presenting my final product. In addition, this magazine would stick to a certain colour scheme that would the enhance the features of the magazine, and with the main colours of: dark reds, black white and grey, I would be able to achieve and resemble my magazine of inspiration ‘Kerrang’ and ‘RESPECT’ Furthermore, I wanted me magazine to present the likelihood of having an organised layout which would be beneficial in anchoring my chosen target audience. Along with the dark colour scheme that would amplify the magazine front cover to my target audience of the male gender and that the content/context presented anchors in the public eye to my magazine. This image is what I will use for my front cover, as the positioning and colours will work well for my front cover. For my front cover, I also wanted my model to be positioned in a way that would relate to my magazine of inspiration, and also bring out the identification of my chosen genre of; ‘Hip-hop’ This image is what I will use for my front cover, as the positioning and colours will work well for my front cover. Whereas in terms of my second magazine, the use of this main image would be quite beneficial for my front as this image is a good representation of my chosen magazine ‘Rock’ genre, and therefore aimed to my target audience
  • 38. Magazine DPS Images TeensRule RockStars In relation to my hand drawn draft, I decided to follow the layout and present my idea on what I want my magazine double page spread to appear like. I want to stay with the same colour scheme, however use different images that have a different pose and may include props. I wanted to include the verifications of the other photographs I took, as the colours that my model used relate very well to my magazine colour scheme; as such from my inspirational of ‘Billboard’ I wanted to include y inspiration and ideas gained to be expressed and presented through the final outcome of my first magazine. As presented in my hand drawn draft shown below, the use of the organised layout, allowed me to achieve the aspect of achieving the full outcome of the additional placement of two main images as, well as shooking the reader with the use of having a lot of text. However, I may or may not use this colour scheme, as this could change depending on the outcome of my DPS. Similar to my hand drawn draft plan shown below, I have decided to choose this as my main image on my double page spread as this would be a very useful way on the identification of my magazine as well as its genre. By having a magazine that contrasts with my previous magazine, my second magazine would have a different outcome on what I would want to present to my public audience. With my second magazine, I aimed to include and relate the colour scheme to my inspiration gained from the inspirational magazines of ‘KERRANG’ and ‘RESPECT’ the hand drawn draft below was the inspiration I gained when I did some background research as to what my magazine would look like; although I will not be using the colour scheme for my second magazine as, when panning and scanning I wanted to present the location and organisation of the points of my components, that will go onto my front cover magazine. My following my hand drawn draft shown below, I will be able to achieve the aspect of having a magazine that would be able to layout and organise my dps
  • 39. Front Cover: TeensRuleOverall, this is what my final outcome of my first magazine looks like. I am proud with the final outcome of my product; along with the presentation of my hand drawn drafts and two images of my inspirational magazine ‘Billboard’. I got this colour scheme ideas, from the use of the bright and vibrant colours that made the magazine as a whole stand out. My model also makes the front cover stand out because, of his bright coloured hoodie and dark coloured jeans, in which this enhanced the quality of the magazine further. From following along the lines of my hand drawn drafts and my graphic layout, I then managed to achieve the aspect of how my final magazine would looks like. With the additional use of including the price, barcode and social media links, I was able to achieve the full presentation of my magazine and how this would then anchor my public target audience to my first magazine. From my inspirational magazine ‘Billboard’ I decided on following along the lines of making my front cover resemble the genre of ‘hip-hop’ and have context that would anchor in the public target audience of young to middle aged teenagers. Finally, I went for a gradient of a white on blue affect, as I aimed to make the masthead, main image and headline stand out, as well as enhance the other features. Also, in comparison to my second magazine (presented in the next slide) I wanted to express the main image, by keeping the surrounding contents simple but also “out there” and due to the bright coloured hoodie, the main images and masthead are enhances, and compliment the background very well, which gives the identity that my first magazine is of the ‘hip-hop’ genre.
  • 40. Front Cover: RockStarsSince my second magazine is of the popular music genre of ‘Rock’, I decided on going for the theme of black and white, which will then allow me to create and expose key features that would be eye-catching to my target audience of young adults. Similar to the masthead in my first magazine, the gradient effect also made my second magazine stand out really well, I then decided to choose font styles that would amplify the front cover to my aimed target audience, as well as using the same model; but instead, as shown in my ‘Photographs’ slide, I edited the image in photoshop and with the use of the quick selection tool, I selected the image, and with the edit of ‘Subtract from Selection’ I outline the the image around the match flame and change the theme of the image from colour to black and white. I am really proud with my final product of my second magazine, as the design and layout is unique and anchoring to the public to my target male audience. Overall I got this inspiration from two magazines of the ‘Rock’ genre to inspire me with the layout, colour scheme and rock artist ideas for my front cover. In comparison to my first magazine, this magazine is aimed mainly to my chosen target audience of the male genre as such, there is additional content and context onto the magazine and therefore anchor the public to read it. From the magazines of inspiration shown below; which are both of the ‘Rock’ genre and follow a colour scheme of dark colours which are then enhanced by the bright colours; for example the reds and the greens. Therefore the magazine as a whole relates to my magazines of inspiration, because of the contrast of the colours and the colour scheme of the blacks and greys which then amplify the masthead and bring out the main image; in which I wanted the public to be drawn to, to reveal the identity that my second magazine is of the ‘Rock’ genre.
  • 41. Practice DPS Product: TeensRuleAs a part of my experimenting stage, I decided to experiment and create a brief layout in Photoshop as to what my DPS for my first magazine would be like. Although I originally thought that we had to create both two magazine front covers and two DPS with the use of Photoshop. However, after working outside of lessons, I decided to experiment and present my first magazine practise DPS, as well as following the layout of my hand drawn and graphic layout. I decided to make a practise of my first magazine, as to justify the layout as a whole and also identify any corrections that i should make, in order to achieve what my magazine should look like. After creating this practise I have come to the conclusion of altering and adding some improvements that will make my magazine relate more to my main genre of ‘hip-hop’ and be more attractive to the public, of my aimed target audience. The image example below is how I got my inspiration for my first magazine double page spread.
  • 42. DPS Final Product: TeensRule This is the final result as to how I edited and enhanced the double page spread more to relate to the magazine that inspired this (as shown below). With the more simplistic colour scheme and organised layout, this DPS indicates what inspired me to create this final product. Furthermore, I with the minimal use of roughly three font styles, I have managed to achieve the type of magazine DPS relates more to my chosen target audience.
  • 43. How I altered my DPS Headline Interview (Text) Main Image Main Image Pull Quote Text Headline Interview (Text) Pull Quote Text Main Image (Background) Original Design Idea; Graphic Layout Final Design Idea; Graphic Layout After planning and creating what my final double page spread would look resemble very well to my chosen magazine ‘TeensRule’ which has been inspired by the magazine ‘Billboard’ the final result of this magazine, indicated the type of magazine that this would be suitable for. Along with the vibrant colour scheme and the organised layout, this would therefore anchor my chosen target audience of the teenagers.
  • 44. DPS Product: RockStars From the magazine double page spread shown below, I decided to follow a similar layout, as presented in my hand drawn drafts and graphic layout, I aim to create a practise double page spread, in which I could demonstrate how I can achieve the outcome I want, as well as plan any possible changes to make my DPS relate to my inspirational of ‘RESPECT’ and ‘KERRANG’ The final outcome presented on the right is a rough example of what I want to aim for with my second magazine. I wanted to create an example of what my dps for my second magazine as this would help me with any alterations that would make this magazine stand out and anchor the public to my target audience, as well as relate to my chosen music genre of ‘Rock’. In addition, creating a practise double page spread, this would help me when planning my final product, similar to the example shown below.
  • 45. From my inspirational magazine of ‘KERRANG’ and ‘RESPECT’ I decided to create a magazine which relates of my magazines of inspiration. For example, I was inspired by the colour scheme that ‘RESPECT’ presents, which enhances the eye-catching Masthead along with the rest of the content around the main image. In addition, the main image was also inspired by ‘RESPECT’; however, I wanted a certain area of my chosen final main image, to have a pop of colour that would bring out the main image; as shown in my final example, I made the whole image white and grey and left the candle in colour. This was very useful and helpful way to present that my magazine was of the ‘Rock’ genre. Furthermore, I also got my layout and organisation plan from my second magazine of inspiration ‘KERRANG’. From this magazine, the way that the production lays out their content is very simple however anchoring to the public. Therefore, with my ‘RockStars’ magazine, I wanted to involve the use of having an organised context with the same/similar font styles and font size, and also contain a relative colour scheme; as well as the effect that the main image is placed in front of the masthead. With the effectiveness of searching interesting font styles; for instance, the website of: ‘Dafont.com’, I was then able to experiment with the different types of font styles that symbolise the ‘Rock’ genre quite well and therefore incorporate them into my magazine front cover. For my magazine, I decided to choose the font styles of: The Blacklist, Rockout, White on Black and Enter the Grid. In which these font styles helped me present a simple, but eye-catching and unique magazine front cover. From my magazines of inspiration, which are shown below, I decided on focusing their layout of organisation and the layout of the their colour scheme. Because of this, I was able to sum up how my final magazine front cover would look like. Therefore, for my final magazine, I decided to combine the two and create a magazine that presents a unique and organise original design. Final Product Analysis - RockStars
  • 46. Production Process of ‘RockStars’ Magazine STEP ONE 1. Open up Adobe Photoshop CC 2015.5 and go to; ‘File, New, International Paper, A4, RGB Colour and OK 2. Before I began editing and creating my magazine front cover, I needed to create a border in which I will be able to position my Main Image, Masthead, Cover Lines etc. I achieved this by pressing ‘Cmd R’, which then presented the ruler border, by clicking and dragging on the ruler I was able to align my border for my magazine front cover. After template and borders have been created, I wanted my background to have a gradient effect. Therefore, with the use of the ‘Gradient Tool’, by pressing ‘G’ and holding shift, I dragged my mouse from the top of my template to the base while holding down shift. This helped me create a straight line, which resulted in the gradient effect of black and white. In the next stage of this LO. I must represent my step by step guide as to how I created my magazine front cover. Each step will be accompanied with a screenshot as to reveal the appearance of the stages of my production.
  • 47. Production Process of ‘RockStars’ Magazine STEP TWO 1. After taking multiple images of my model, I chose my final image and opened it on a separate template. Selecting the quick selection tool, I selected the main image leaving a small gap around the candle flame (which is what I wanted to keep in colour) and went to; ‘Image, Adjustments, Black and White. 2. I deselected my image and again with the ‘Quick Selection tool’ I selection the entire image of my model and copied (Cmd C) and pasted it onto my background (Cmd V) onto a new layer name ‘MAIN IMAGE’. Along the ‘Move tool’ (M), I moved my image and placed it in the centre of my magazine template. Image - Adjustment - Black and White Quick Selection Tool Main Image Layer Move Tool
  • 48. Production Process of ‘RockStars’ Magazine STEP THREE 1. The next stage in creating my magazine front cover was inserting my magazine masthead/ brand name: ‘RockStars’. However, I wanted my masthead to present my chosen music genre of ‘Rock’. Therefore, with the helpful website ‘DaFont.com’ I was able to search and experiment with different font styles that would relate very well to my magazine front cover. After experimenting with a variety of different font styles, I finally chose the font style ‘The Blacklist’ which in my opinion presented the rock vibe. 2. When I inserted my masthead, I wanted to present the inspiration that I gained from my two inspiration magazines: ‘KERRANG’ and ‘RESPECT’, therefore, I decided to place my main image in front of the masthead, by: Going into layer and dragging the ‘Main Image’ layer and placed it below my ‘Masthead’ layer. The final results depict the inspiration that I gained to the magazine ‘RESPECT’ 3. With my ‘Masthead’ layer, I double clicked on the layer and edited the; ‘Texture, Inner/ Outer Glow, Inner and Outer Shadow’ etc. Until I came with the outcome that I wanted on my front cover. • 49. Production Process of ‘RockStars’ Magazine STEP FOUR 1. Next, with a simpler font style, I created a new layer; which I labelled ‘STRAPLINE’ and after getting inspired from other magazine straplines, I decided to create my known strapline that would be simplistic but out there. 2. I decided that with my ‘ANCHORAGE TEXT’ layer, I wanted to include an eye- catching title that would draw the public to the front cover. 3. However, with my ‘COVERLINE’ layers I experimented with the different coloured text, by staying within my colour scheme of; Black, White, Grey and Red. Therefore I created five different cover lines, each containing a maximum of two font colours and having the same font style. Text Tool Text Layers
  • 50. Production Process of ‘RockStars’ Magazine STEP FIVE 1. I also decided to include a ‘PUFF PROMOTION’ in which I got inspired from the magazine ‘KERRANG’, with the indication of “WIN” and this would therefore attract the public eye, as I tried to follow the layout of my magazine. 2. Finally, I added a barcode accompanied with; social media icons, web address, issue date and price. I also added an additional white box, which enhanced the visibility and quality of the magazine front cover further. 3. After following my hand drawn draft and graphic layout, I managed to achieve the final result of my magazine front cover. As the borders were a very useful way of helping me. I presse Cmd. H to hide the borders. This then presented me with a clear and clean end result, and because of this, the alignment of my content was straight and organised. Puff Promotion

  • 57. How have I altered my Final ProductWith the final outcome of my magazine front cover, I wanted my content to focus on my chosen music genre of ‘Rock’ and therefore appeal to my target audience. With the use of an organised layout, I will be able to achieve what my magazine is trying to portray. After planning what changes I could alter to my front cover, I have decided to narrow down the spacing as to having the context being the same font style and size, yet however contain a variation of colours that would resemble my colour scheme I also decided to alter the appearance by having a decent amount of magazine features that would anchor my target audience of male adults around my target age range of 16 to 22 year olds. With the usefulness of include popular logos; such as ‘Beats’ that would suit my magazine quite well and enhance the colour scheme of my magazine. • 58. Backpage Advertisement TeensRule As a part of this course, I was told to create and design a backpage advertisement. Although this would be placed at the back of my magazine, I wanted to keep the style and content simple but effective towards my target audience. • 67. Printing Quotes and Cost https://print24.com/uk/product/magazines/ As each magazine will cost £20.35 to print and produce, this may affect the costing price of the printing 2000 copies of my magazine every month. Overall, this may have an impact on the profit and loss that the company have benefit from this, or may have a problem with. Along with no additional properties added to the magazine, such as: what the ‘Refinery Cover’ will look like. With the reasonable pricing of printing each magazine individually, this could affect the profit gained from selling the magazine every month. In addition, having my magazine produced and delivered within a suitable time and within the UK will be beneficial with the monthly issue date for the magazine. Each magazine will cost a Total of £20.35 By selling a total of 2000 copies of the magazine The Total price will cost £1,832.63 With the price of producing and printing 2000 copies every month, this may affect profitable money gained that the money loss. From each magazine costing £20.35 to print and having to produce 2000 copies will result in the expensive price shown above of £1,832.63 with the additional cost of the delivery. However, the company have a slight advantage of the having the magazines produced and delivered in the UK; similar to the production of each magazine individually. With the reasonable pricing of £1,800.00 + is due to the features that will included into each magazine; for instance, the glossy property cover and the matt contents, with the additional coated art paper would help with the distribution of the magazine.
  • 68. Distribution to Retailer I plan to sell and distribute my magazine in popular companies that will attract the public, such as WHSmith, and local supermarkets such as; Sainsbury's, Tesco and M&S. If possible collaborate with other magazine companies such as ‘Kerrang’ and ‘Mojo’ As shown in the pie chart below, the average amount of the population who chose their favourite genre, resulted in: ‘Kpop’, ‘Pop’ and ‘R&B’. Therefore this will allow me to understand the average likelihood of what today’s population magazine music genre they prefer. http://www.frontlinedistribution.co.uk In conclusion, the distribution (also shown above) as to the collaboration of different retailers will help me distribute my magazine over a wider variety.

  • 70. Profit and Loss Breakdown Background Advertising Marketing Equipment Cost My magazine will have a buying cost of £3.50 and therefore with this affordable price would increase profit in the distribution of copies sold. As for a magazine costing a reasonable price, the advantage of selling roughly 2000 copies of my magazine monthly, the result in having 1500 copies sold, will result in 500 copies loss of not being distributed. Furthermore, as presented in the ‘Pricing’ column, the printing quotes and the cost of the magazine will cost a price of £20.35 each, which will result in the achievement of buying and distributing 2000 copies of the magazine will result in the total cost of £1,832.63. Each magazine that would be sold in ideal locations that would be suitable for the magazine will cost £3.50 to buy, which will result in the profit of £7,000 I plan to distribute my magazine in popular locations, for instance; WHSmith and local supermarkets such as ‘Tesco’ and ‘Sainsbury’s’ Along with the distribution of my magazine being sold in local areas, I plan to sell my magazine in the mail, as well as download from the magazine international website. Due to this, the magazine would increase in profit as of the £3.50 pricing. Although advertising my magazine would be a challenge the use of distributing my magazine in popular locations and other branches that could increase the profit of the magazine, this would result in the beneficial indication of the magazine and help the company and the production of the magazine itself. Therefore, the total overall cost of advertising the magazine will equal a total of £230,683. With a helpful magazine production company, the advantage of Marketing the magazine would also increase the profit and the distribution of the amount of magazines being sold each month every year. However with only 2000 copies of the magazine being produced and distributed; the Marketing and Finance member will have the advantage of indicating the magazine in a variety of different locations; online and in store. Along with the usefulness of an organised magazine production team; having a ‘Marketing and Finance’ team and team leader, will allow the magazine to have a positive outcome profit of creating awareness and social interaction to boost the profit and sales of the magazine. Finally, the distribution of the magazine would include the retail costs of where I could sell my magazine and increase the profit gained. By planning and contributing the price of the production of the magazine, this would result in the amount and pricing plan of how much the production of the magazine will cost and the result of the distribution will cost. Pricing ● Along with the payment weekly salary of the staff, ● Costing price of the production of the magazine ● Costing of how much each magazine costs ● The standard delivery of 2000 copies The pricing of the production company of producing the magazine will result in the the advantage of profiting from the magazine, however the loss of affording how the magazine will be produced and distributed. Along with the additional production of the magazine and the costing of the printing quotes and cost, the magazine company would loss profit, due to the high pricing of printing 2000 magazines, and printing each magazine individually. Along with the pricing of the equipment cost, the profitable loss will have an effect on the overall loss that the magazine company will gain and will lose in the span of one year. As shown in the next slide, the overall breakdown of the how much the company will profit from and what the company will lose money from.
