12. About the Product - Harmony
The name term Harmony means; ‘the combination of simultaneously sounded notes’, and
therefore I decided on this because my social website is to promote communication
between people of different ages. With the presentation of appropriate content which would
engage the audience to interaction in new ways in the form of music, creativity and
expression through the users choice. Mainly, the unique selling point of the social website
is to connote that creativity can be expressed in song and dance as to imply that social
interaction in the site can be entertaining and engaging. I wanted to go for a font style that
would connote the the social site is for an expressed social connection between individuals
and groups, by which I went to dafont.com and chose the style ‘Musicals’ as the
presentation of the lettering would enhance by ideal colour scheme of red and black as of
the smooth contrast between the dark black and bright red, and by keeping the title black
and white.
Furthermore, the type of synergy that my social media would a digital way of interaction an
expression of one’s personality and interests; a more greater and simpler way to connect
with friends and others internationally. Finally, my aimed target audience would be both
genders of all ages as my social site has no age limit, to due to the connection and
expression in many forms and genres like comedy.
13. Legal and Ethical Issues
In relation to musicians copyright is a protection of both songs and records which includes
the melody and lyrics; with the idea of the a “fix” requirement, meaning that there is no
protection for the song that may be “fix” written down, recorded or saved onto a hard drive.
However, playing the song live does not meet the “fixed” requirement but when you record a
live performance you have not “fixed” the song.
Music Publishing
A business of exploiting a song, cover, film, video games and ringtones are usually in the
form of a license fee. Mainly songwriters own the copyright in the music and lyrics to what
they write earn money; although the ‘publishing income’ does not come from the ownership
of copyright, it comes from the ownership of the copyrights in the songs.
Record Label
A record label, or recording company, is to manufacture, distribute, market, promote and sell
an artist’s music. ‘Recording agreements are often 50 to 80 pages long and contain complex
language and terms that are not only difficult to understand but can significantly impact the
artist’s rights, obligations, and compensation’

14. Copyright
With the issue on Copyright and in particular the social media website, the key point of
Copyright; especially linked to music it is important that the songs undergo the process of
Copyright to prevent future problems for the social network.
What does musical copyright have to do with music publishing?
A designation of intellectual property similar to a patient or trademark. When the original
composition has then been fixed in a medium by which can then be reproduced, the
composer is granted exclusive rights if the piece of music includes the right to; reproduce
the song, distribute the song, perform the song and create derivative works
Every recorded piece of music has two different copyrights:
The composition itself; The type where the songs of a particular composition are owned
by the artist/ writer.
The sound recording: A specific version where the copyright belongs to the label/
recording artist
Although the idea of exploitation is in this case not a bad situation as in the musical industry,
copyright must be practiced in a variety of ways.

15. Privacy Policy
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privacy_policy
A statement or legal document that discloses some or all the ways of party gathers, users,
discloses and manages a customer or client’s data. It fulfills a legal requirement to protect a
customer or client’s privacy.
In addition, my social media site would also have an agreement to a privacy policy as to the
agreement to the terms and conditions of creating a profile.
The need for the privacy policy is to result in the responsibility that the user is responsible
for the content they create and the content they post: for any social media website, it is a
legal requirement for the user and for their content.

include the idea of a terms and conditions near the base, by which creating an account

17. Conclusion
The main aim of working on Unit 35 was to understand and create two different social media
applications and connote the needed key points and terms of how and why this is important
in the social industry. Key points such as; legal and ethical issues and terms and conditions
was where I had to consider how this would relate to my social applications. Along with the
planning of my two social applications and explaining the background such as; target
audience, colour scheme, font style and content and connote why these needed to be taken
into considerations. Harmony is a social networking app in the form of musical expression
and communication, which was inspired by facebook, snapchat and musical.ly where the
user would be able to express their personality and skill. Hype on the other hand is also a
entertaining way of social communication as such the inspiration from twitter, instagram and
skype. A social app where the user can connect socially in real time through facetime and
connection digitally through photos, comments and videos. Throughout this unit I have
understood the impact and background checks on why so many social media applications
are unique and popular, as my social applications were designer from scratch and
presented in eye-catching ways with the use of Adobe Photoshop.
