The document evaluates how effective the combination of a main film trailer product and ancillary tasks of a film poster and magazine cover are. It describes how film posters are widely viewed on different platforms to promote films and catch viewers' eyes. Magazine covers are also ubiquitous and allow viewers to learn more about a film. The creator's film poster and magazine cover keep continuity by being in black and white. The poster matches conventions by positioning characters back-to-back to imply a relationship while suggesting obstacles. Fonts are similar across products to create a brand image while reviews are consistently featured to also maintain branding.
2. ANCILLARY TASKS
-Film Poster - Magazine Cover
Along side my film trailer I had to make a promotional package containing a film poster and a magazine
cover. The point of these tasks is to promote the film.
Film Posters
Film posters are widely viewed on a range of
different platforms. You can have a film poster on
billboards, buses, taxis, advertisement boards e.g.
pubs, shops, café, inside magazines, on leaflets(
posted through doors), websites. They’re there to
catch the eye of the target market and make them
want to find out more about the film leading
them, hopefully to watching it.
Magazine Covers
Even though magazine are considered ‘old’ in the world of
new medias they are still everywhere you go, they will be in
shops, cafés, on public transport and many others. Meaning
that subconsciously or consciously they are always on view.
On the front cover the image will be eye-catching and give
slightly more information than poster. If the viewer wants
they can open the magazine and find out more about the
film like where its showing, reviews and director
commentary.
3. MY TASKS….
Film Poster Magazine cover
After making my magazine cover I thought a clever way to keep the continuity between the two tasks would be to
keep them in black and white too.
4. FILM POSTER…
My film poster
Similar film posters
To try and make my film poster
as successful as possible I have
tried to match it as closely as I
can to existing posters. Like the
above posters I have placed
my to main characters back to
back, the body language of the
two characters implies that
there possibly could be
something romantic between
them but it also suggests that
there is something standing in
the way of them. It is a typical
convention of a film poster so I
hope by doing it, potential
viewers will get a hint about
what genre the film is from.
5. CREATING A ‘BRAND’
Font:
For my poster, film trailer and magazine cover I have tried to use as
similar fonts as possible. I didn’t want to use the exact same font as I
wanted to show a variety/ creativity throughout my products.
Although to try and create a ‘brand image’ I did want to make them
similar. The reason I wanted to create a brand image is so that if
someone was to see just the typography out of the corner of their eye
they would know what it was associated with straight away, my film.
Reviews:
A typical code of a film trailer is to have a few reviews throughout it
and to keep the continuity between my film trailer and my film poster
I have added the same reviews to both. On my magazine cover I did
not use the same reviews, my reasoning for this was when it came to
creating it, it didn’t fit the codes and conventions of my type of
magazine cover. Instead I advertised the actress and the fact that the
magazine had the excusive debut interview with her. By putting this it
should draw in readers as they wont be able to find the interview
anywhere else.
