When researching media institutions and distribution companies I searched for companies that had a lot of experience and knew what they were
doing, so that my magazine would be distributed evenly. Having a big distribution company processing your magazine also gets your magazine a
larger name meaning it'll be bought by more shops to sell on further. I discovered the British media company ‘IPC’ that specialise in the
distribution and production of magazines. The institution currently works with larger magazines such as NME and not many alternative magazines
such as mine. Although as they are a large company they are looking to expand and broaden their markets and may be interested in distributing
smaller scales indie magazines. My magazine is different to others they work with in the sense that it fits into a smaller sub-genre and has a
smaller audience. Although my magazine maybe smaller than others they work with, IPC may want to distribute my magazine as it has potential
and stands out against others in a smaller genre in which there are only a few similar magazines. IPC would be attracted to a more niche
indie/alternate styled magazine as it has a specialist audience and are already a large company. The company would be interested in producing
and distributing my magazine as it will add another magazine to an already large and successful collection in which there are currently no
indie/alternate magazines similar to my own. I also like the look of many of the magazines they work with, such as NME, meaning that they could
help me with the creation of the media products and help my magazine reach its full potential and sell as much as possible. Another media
institution I could work with could be ‘The Church of London’. This company publish indie magazines such as 'Little White Lies' and 'Huck'
magazine. This organisation would be a prime example of someone I could potentially use as a publisher as the genre of work and products that
they work with directly relates to the piece I plan to create myself. They have previous in lower popularity magazines but also know how to
distribute them and increase their stature.
