IPC Media would be the best publisher for a new hip-hop magazine as they publish different genres but not hip-hop, so there would be less competition. They publish magazines like Nuts, Women's Weekly, and Now. Distributing the magazine to local shops, corner shops, off licenses, and high street shops would allow it to compete against other music magazines. Selling in eye-level shops like Nisa, WHSmiths, Tesco, Asda's, CostCutter and Londis is best as the target audience shops there. Subscriptions and social media pages on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook would keep the audience updated and attract more people. An app made with Apple's help could initially target
1. What kind of media
institution might
distribute your media
product and why?
2. IPC MEDIA
IPC Media is my chosen Publishing house. I have decided
to choose this specific publisher as they publish different
types and genres of magazines. However, a magazine for
the genre of Hip-hop has not yet been published.
IPC Media publish magazines such as; Nuts, Women’s
Weekly, Now and Teen Now. This would lead to less
competition for my magazine, as I would necessarily gain
a particular audience.
3. MUSIC MAGS
I have not chosen Music Mags to publish my magazine,
however, if I wanted to I could as they haven’t yet
published any magazines that relate or are similar to my
genre. Music Mags publish magazines such as; Jazz
Times, Sound on Sound and Altpress.
4. BAUER
I would not necessarily use Bauer as a publisher for my
magazine as they already publish Mojo and FHM which
are similar to my magazine genre, which would lead to
conflict and competition in the selling market.
5. CONDE NAST
I have not chosen Conde Nast to publish my magazine,
however, if I wanted to I could as they haven’t yet
published any magazines that relate or are similar to my
genre. This would also mean that there would be less
competition and conflict with any other magazines,
however, it would still be attracting a larger audience.
7. DISTRIBUTION
I plan and aim on distributing my magazine to all local
shops, this includes corner shops, off license, high street
shops and stalls. By doing this, means that I am able to
compete against the other competitors who would have
similar genres of music to my magazine.
8. SELLING MY MAGAZINE
I plan on selling my magazine at eye level shops and
corner shops, these consist of places such as; Nisa,
WHSmiths, Tesco, Asda’s, CostCutter and Londis. I have
chosen these shops, as I believe that these are the kind
of shops that my target audience are likely to go into.
9. SUBSCRITIONS
In order for my audience to catch up and keep up to date
with recent events/information about my magazine, I will
persuade and encourage my audience to subscribe to my
magazine and become a monthly member. By doing this,
they will have the option of being updated by text, email,
through apps, etc. This will also enable me to see and
determine what periods the highest and lowest sales are
made of my magazine.
10. SOCIAL NETWORKS
In order to attract as much of my target audience as
possible, I will create Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and
Facebook pages in order to do so. I have targeted these
specific social network websites, as they are commonly
known to the teenage and my target audience society of
today.
11. WORKING WITH APPLE
As I want to attract as many people as possible, I plan to
work with Apple, who will help me create an App for my
magazine. This will clearly be aimed at my readers who
are iPhone users, however, in the future if the app
becomes successful, then I plan on making it available to
android and other phone users.
