1. LSC FOOTBALL
Texas A&M-Commerce and Midwestern State square off this week as the only unbeaten Lone Star Conference
teams. The Lions host the Mustangs in a game that will be broadcast on ESPN3 as part of the Division II Football
Showcase schedule.
LSC football teams are 25-23 overall this season. The squads are 3-3 combined versus the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athle c Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Rocky Mountain Athle c Conference
teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.
LSC FOOTBALL ON ESPN3
A pair of Lone Star Conference football games are part of the 2016 Division II Football Showcase schedule and
will be broadcast on ESPN3 and WatchESPN.
For a second straight season, A&M-Commerce will host a na onal broadcast on October 8 as the Lions
welcome Midwestern State. The game starts at 7 p.m.
UT Permian Basin hosted West Texas A&M in the Falcon’s first LSC football game in the program’s ini al
season. Due to inclement weather the game was postponed and was not broadcast as scheduled.
NCAA Division II announced 18 of the 22 regular-season football games that will be carried on ESPN3,
WatchESPN and American Sports Network, a er the division entered a three-year agreement in 2015 to
deliver Division II athle cs events. By comparison, only seven games were televised in each of the 2013 and
2014 seasons.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Vincent Johnson, Midwestern State University, SO, RB, Lubbock, Texas, Monterey HS
Johnson rushed for three touchdowns in leading No. 7 Midwestern State to a 43-22 win over Western New
Mexico Saturday a ernoon at Altamirano Field. It was the third me this season the sophomore from Lubbock
Monterey High accounted for three rushing scores as Johnson ranks second in NCAA Division II in scoring at
16.5 points per game and third in total rushing TDs with 11 this season. The 5-10, 203-pound sophomore also
turned his second 100-yard rushing performance of the season going for 103 yards on 18 carries. Johnson
found pay dirt three mes in the second half as culminated an 11-play, 65-yard drive with a 3-yard run in the
third quarter before scoring twice in the final stanza on runs of 4 and 25 yards. His 25-yard touchdown run
came on fourth-and-1 and gave MSU a commanding 21-point lead with 7:24 to play.
DEFENSIVE
Jus n Jackson, Angelo State University, SO, LB, Missouri City, Texas, Fort Bend Ridge Point
Jackson helped the Rams defense to holding Texas A&M-Kingsville to just 262 total yards and only 76 yards on
the ground. The sophomore made six tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss. He broke up four passes and recovered
the fumble that sealed the victory for ASU.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Ovie Urevbu, Texas A&M University - Commerce, JR, Coverage, Plano, Texas, Legacy Chr. Acad.
Urevbu scored the Lions’ fi h touchdown of the first half on a fake field goal and had one of the more impressive
all-around performances in the 35-13 win at OPSU. His 28-yard touchdown recep on was his first touch of the
ball. The junior also had a tackle in kick coverage. Urevbu wound up as the Lions’ leading rusher on the day
with four carries for 64 yards.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Chivasiay Gallagher, Eastern New Mexico University, rushed for a career-high 122 yards and two scores to
lead Eastern to its third Wagon Wheel Game victory in the last four seasons. He was especially effec ve in the
second half, when he posted 104 yards and both touchdowns.
Carsen Cook, Angelo State University, led the Rams to a game-winning touchdown drive in his first career
start for ASU against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The redshirt freshman gained 21 yards on the ground and scored a
rushing TD while also throwing for a career high 131 passing yards. He completed 14-of-28 passes and threw a
10-yard touchdown pass to Mark Munson.
Junior Pomee, West Texas A&M University, had a career-best six catches for 77 yards and a touchdown in the
Buffs’ game at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday. He led the team with 77 receiving yards and the touchdown
was the first of his WT career.
Del’Michael High, Tarleton State University, enjoyed a career night in front of a packed house at Memorial
Stadium as the junior from Mesquite exploded for 153 receiving yards and two touchdowns on six recep ons
to lead the Texans past UT Permian Basin Saturday. High scored Tarleton’s first and last touchdowns of the night
as he hauled in a 42-yard recep on on Tarleton’s first drive of the game to put Tarleton in the driver’s seat right
away. His second score came on a 31-yard pitch and catch from QB Zed Woerner when High came back to catch
a pass and then made three men miss on his way to pay dirt with 10:29 le in the third quarter. High became
the second Texan since 2014 to amass 150 receiving yards in a single game – joining Le’Nard Meyers who went
for 154 against Eastern New Mexico in October of 2015.

for 165 yards on 13 catches and two scores against
na onally-ranked Midwestern State. He had a long
recep on of 55 yards that went for a touchdown on
a flea flicker play. In se ng up his second touchdown
of the game, he caught six passes on the drive for a
total of 71 yards, with the last five finding the end
zone. Ayers con nues to create separa on between
the next closest receivers to him in the Lone Star
Conference as he leads the league with 556 yards on
35 catches and has seven scores.
Luis Perez, Texas A&M University - Commerce,
completed 34-of-48 passes for 396 yards, with three
touchdowns and one intercep on (which bounced
off a receiver’s pads)... Perez completed passes to
11 different receivers as the Lions picked up their
fi h straight win to start the year... His 396 yards are
the most in a single game in the LSC this year... Had
two comple ons of over 50 yards... Led the Lions to
scores on five of the game’s first six drives...
Frank Honang, West Texas A&M University, led
the Buffs with 11 tackles, four solo stops, one tackle
for loss and one sack (13 yards) in the annual Wagon
Wheel Game at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday. It
was Honang’s first career double-digit tackle game,
his first career fumble return and first career sack.
Prior to Saturday’s game he had just three tackles on
the year now he has 14.
Brad Hardin, Eastern New Mexico University,
made a team-high nine tackles in Eastern’s Wagon
Wheel victory over West Texas A&M. he also made
an intercep on in the second quarter, when the
Buffaloes were in Greyhound territory. In the second
half, Eastern allowed just one drive of more than five
plays, and allowed just six first downs.
Dominic Barry, Western New Mexico, con nues to
pile up the tackles as he led the team with nine stops,
including three solo. He also added a half sack and a
pass broken up. He leads the team in tackles with 36
and in solo stops with 17.
Cameron Rogers, Texas A&M University -
Commerce, Led the Lions in tackles in a 35-13 win
over OPSU on the road... Had 1.5 tackles for loss
as the Lions stopped the Aggies behind the line 16
mes... Also had a pass breakup on a third down to
force a punt...
Quailon Haynes, Midwestern State University, strip
sack changed the de for 10th-ranked Midwestern
State Saturday allowing the Mustangs to roll to a
43-22 win over Western New Mexico at Altamirano
Field. In his collegiate debut, the redshirt-freshman
out of Duncanville High made six tackles including a
pair of sacks and two forced fumbles. Haynes sacked
WNMU quarterback Javia Hall and stripped the ball
away giving MSU possession inside the Western New
Mexico 10-yard line to kickstart a 22-point quarter for
Midwestern.
Basil Jackson, Tarleton State University, a er UTPB
cut Tarleton’s 14-0 lead in half and were in possession
with a chance to e the game early on, he swung the
momentum back to Tarleton with an intercep on
returned 41 yards for a touchdown as the first quarter
expired to extend the Tarleton lead to 21-7. Jackson
jumped a Falcon flat route on the final play of the
opening quarter to ignite a game-changing Tarleton
run as the pick six was the first of four straight
Tarleton scores that helped Tarleton take a 38-7 lead
against the Falcons. Jackson, who also made five
tackles on the night, returned the first intercep on
to the house for Tarleton since September 28, 2013. –
snapping a streak of 31 straight games without a pick
six. It was Tarleton’s third intercep on returned for a
touchdown since 2009 and he becomes the second
player over that span to accomplish it – joining
Desmond Jackson who did it once in 2011 and 2013.
Casey Eyman, Angelo State University, averaged
43.0 punt per game over seven punts against Texas
A&M-Kingsville. The junior made his fi h field goal of
the season, a 21-yard field goal on the opening drive.
Eyman recorded two punts inside the 20 and had a
long of 53.
Bailey Hale, Eastern New Mexico University,
had a strong night for the Greyhounds in Saturday
night’s Wagon Wheel win over West Texas A&M. He
averaged more than 40-yards per punt, and had two
downed inside the Buffalo 20-yard line. In the fourth
quarter, his 44-yard kick was downed at the WT 12-
yard line, with ENMU holding a nine-point lead.
He also connected on two field goals, which were
nullified due to WT penal es.
Lee Anthony Dawson, West Texas A&M University,
returned a failed two point conversion on a PAT for a
safety for the Buffs as it was the first PAT return for a
safety since 2010 at Angelo State by Tae Evans, 9-25-
2010...Dawson had five tackles in the game as well
in the ba le for the Wagon Wheel at Eastern New
Mexico.
Bubba Tandy, Tarleton State University, had two
touches on special teams and recorded 80 yards
on one kickoff return and one punt return. Tandy’s
biggest play of the night was a 44-yard punt return
to set up the Texan offense at the UTPB 15-yard line,
which ul mately led to a one-play touchdown drive
for Tarleton. Tandy’s 44-yard punt return was the
longest by a Texan since October 24, 2014.
Ian Davis, Western New Mexico, came up with
several big plays on special teams to help the
Mustangs collect a pair of turnovers. He recovered
two fumbles on punt returns, including one in which
he forced. In addi on to that, he added five tackles,
two solo and a pass breakup. His first fumble recovery
gave the Mustangs the ball at the MSU 30 and they
turned it into six points. His second one didn’t directly
lead to points, but later turned into a safety.

The Rams improved to 2-3 and 1-2 in the LSC a er
a 22-21 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville ... ASU held
TAMUK to just 262 yards of total offense and only
76 yards on the ground ... The Rams extended their
blocked kick streak to five games with the team’s
eighth blocked kick of the season which leads all
divisions ... Rance Layton scored his first career
touchdown on a fumble recovery in the end zone
... Mark Munson and Carsen Cook also both scored
for the Rams ... ASU has the No. 7 ranked third down
defense holding teams to only a 26 percent success
rate on third down ... ASU returns home to face OPSU
this Saturday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m.
Eastern New Mexico
Facing a 28-7 deficit, Eastern New Mexico used
second-half turnovers and a ball-control offense to
rally. The Hounds held the ball for about 22 minutes
in the second half and took the lead for good on
Chivasiay Gallagher’s one-yard plunge in the third
quarter. Gallagher emerged for a career-best 122
yards rushing, to eclipse his previous best of 12
yards last week at Angelo State. In the third quarter,
the Hounds outgained WT 199-41 in total yards and
recovered a pair of fumbles. The win allowed the
Hounds to raise the Wagon Wheel for the third me
in the last four seasons. The contest also marked the
first me the wheel had been contested on the ENMU
campus, although Eastern had played the West Texas
A&M freshman on campus in the 1930’s. This week,

Midwestern State has now won four consecu ve
games for the 15th me in the Maskill era and for the
12th me in 13 years... The Mustangs never trailed
in a game for the first me since bea ng West Texas
A&M 24-17 on Oct. 10, 2015 -- a span of 10 games...
Sophomore running back Vincent Johnson delivered
his second 100-yard rushing day of the season
finishing with 103 yards on 18 carries with three
touchdowns... Johnson has scored three touchdowns
in three games this season -- Truman State, Texas
A&M-KIngsville and Western New Mexico. He scored
two more against Oklahoma Panhandle State. He
is now 10 shy of Keidrick Jackson’s single season
record of 21 set in 2012... Johnson needs 102 yards
to become the 19th MSU rusher to amass 1,000
career yards... Senior Dante Taylor moved past Phillip
Boggs (386-1590/1999-03) into 11th on MSU’s all-
me rushing list with 94 yards on 10 carries to up
his career numbers to 1,648 yards on 297 carries...
Taylor needs 134 yards to become one of MSU’s Top
10 all- me rushers... Senior wide receiver Statron
Jones caught two passes for 69 yards including a 63-

Jones became the sixth MSU receiver to go over

Quade Coward connected on 11-of-21 passes for 139

accounted for 129 combined yards with 94 yards
on 10 carries while catching one pass for 35 yards...
Senior linebacker Adam Hill returned from injury to
lead the Mustangs with eight tackles including six solo
stops... Redshirt freshman defensive lineman Quailon
Haynes had six tackles with two sacks in his collegiate
debut... Redshirt freshman DaMarcus Wilson made
his first career intercep on late in the first half...
Oklahoma Panhandle State
A er a frustra ng first half that saw the Lions take
a 35-0 lead, the Aggies’ second half efforts held the
Lions scoreless, but were not enough to pull off
the victory. Running back Rod Moore and receiver
Brandon Tro er each put the ball in the endzone for
the Aggies a er hal ime; and the Aggie defense took
three intercep ons, a forced fumble and recovery
and one sack on the Lions in the second half as well.
Darryn Cain came down with two passes intended for
Lion receivers and Marcus McCants got his first INT
on Saturday. Neptune Joseph had the forced fumble
to open the third quarter which was recovered by
Panhandle’s Byron Edwards. Despite the strong
second-half performance by the Aggies, A&M-C took
the 35-13 win to remain undefeated on the season.
Commerce held the Aggies to their lowest offensive
performance thus far with only 262 yards of total
offense for the game; the Lions added up 561 yards
with close to 400 yards coming in the first half of the
game. Panhandle Football will travel to San Angelo
this week to take on ASU Saturday at 6 p.m.
Tarleton State
Tarleton was dominant from its opening possession
Saturday night as the Texans improved to 2-1 in
Lone Star Conference ac on with a 48-20 win over
UT Permian Basin. Tarleton will host Western New
Mexico on Saturday, October 8 for ‘Pink Out’ Night at
Memorial Stadium.

The Texas A&M-Commerce Lions won their fi h
straight game to open the season with a 35-13
conference victory at Oklahoma Panhandle State…

heartbreaking 38-30 loss at Eastern New Mexico in
the annual Wagon Wheel Game on Saturday night...
The Buffs held a 28-14 lead at hal ime and were
outscored 25-2 in the second half and 32-2 from the
final 14 seconds of the first half to the end of the
game...Four turnovers proved costly for WT in a tale
of two halves as everything went right in the first and
not in the second...WT had combined 8:07 minutes
of possession me in the second half as ENMU held
a 12-9 lead in points off turnovers...Sophomore L.A.
Dawson returned a missed PAT 98 yards for a safety
marking the first me that had happened since 2010...
WT had a season-low 22:03 me of possession, while
ENMU held the ball for 37:57...The Buffs managed a
season-low 47 yards rushing on 17 carries (2.8), while
throwing for 345 yards on 31 of 45 by junior Ethan
Brinkley with his second-straight game of throwing
