LSC FOOTBALL
Texas A&M-Commerce claimed its third straight and 23rd overall Lone Star Conference championship with an
8-1 league record.
LSC football teams are 55-53 overall this season. The squads are 3-4 combined versus the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athle c Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Rocky Mountain Athle c Conference
teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.
A&M-C, MSU CHOSEN FOR NCAA FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD
Texas A&M-Commerce and Midwestern State were chosen to represent the Lone Star Conference in the 2016
NCAA Division II Football Championship. The Lions earned the No. 4 seed in Super Region Four, while the
Mustangs are the seventh seed.
A&M-C earned its second consecu ve berth to the NCAA championship ļ¬eld, and will host postseason
ac on in Memorial Stadium for the ļ¬rst me since 1991.
The Lions earned the fourth seed in Super Region Four, and will host ļ¬ h seeded Colorado Mesa on Saturday,
November 19, at 2 p.m.
MSU earned its seventh NCAA Division II playoļ¬€ appearance Sunday a ernoon as the No. 7 seed in Super
Region Four.
The Mustangs head to Big Rapids, Mich. to take on Ferris State Saturday at 11 a.m. CT at Top Taggart Field.

OFFENSIVE
Kamal Cass, Eastern New Mexico University, JR, RB, Clovis, N.M., Clovis HS
Cass rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns in Easternā€™s 30-28 win at 12th-ranked Midwestern State. The
junior running back topped the 100-yard mark in less than one full quarter of play, and helped the Hounds
charge to a 17-0 lead. Cass reached the 1,000-yard mark for the second season, and leads the Lone Star
Conference with 1,125 rushing yards.

SPECIAL TEAMS
Shawn Hooks, Texas A&M University - Commerce, JR, PR/KR, Daingerļ¬eld, Texas, Daingerļ¬eld HS
Hooks sealed the Lionsā€™ 30-10 win over Tarleton with a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown in the fourth
quarter. The return is his third punt return for a touchdown this season, which leads Division II and is ed for
the lead across all four NCAA Divisions.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
DeAndre Williams, Western New Mexico, had a big ļ¬nal game in a season in which he emerged as the top
running back on the team as a true freshman. He rushed 27 mes for 127 yards and two touchdowns, with a
long carry of 40 yards that went for a score. He averaged 4.7 yards per a empt. He also added ļ¬ve recep ons
for 32 yards, with a long catch of 11 yards. It was the second me this season Williams rushed for over 100
yards going for 146 against Midwestern State.
Nick Pelrean, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, ended the regular season with a career-high 103 rushing
yards on just 12 carries... the sophomore found the end zone twice and added a 13 yard recep on in the 53-39
victory at Oklahoma Panhandle State to extend the Javelinasā€™ win streak to six.
Joseph Sadler, Tarleton State University, capped oļ¬€ his Tarleton career with his seventh 100-yard rushing
performance a er going for 100 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown at Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday. He
also added 41 yards on three recep ons out of the backļ¬eld.
Jake Faber, Angelo State University, had a career day for the Rams in a blowout 70-21 win over UTPB. The
junior threw for a career-high 276 passing yards and gained a career-high 94 rushing yards. Faber accounted for
six touchdowns (three rushing, three passing) and hit Mark Munson for an ASU record of 99-yard touchdown
pass. He completed 15-of-22 passes and averaged 8.5 yards per rush in the win.
Luis Perez, Texas A&M University - Commerce, was 22-of-35 in the Lionsā€™ 30-10 win over Tarleton to clinch
their third straight LSC tle. He completed a touchdown pass to Vincent Hobbs from 54 yards out and led
a very eļ¬ƒcient oļ¬€ensive performance. The Lions completed the season with Perez at the helm as the LSC
leaders in scoring oļ¬€ense and passing oļ¬€ense, and second in total oļ¬€ense. He leads the conference in 5 passing
categories and has a 27-3 TD/INT ra o, far and away the best in the league.
Chris Gilchrist, West Texas A&M University, had a career day in his ļ¬nal game in a WT uniform as he caught
a career-high eight passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns in the Buļ¬€sā€™ thrilling 37-30 win in over me at
Western New Mexico. The win gave WT a 6-5 season as Gilchrist caught the tying touchdown with 16 seconds
le in regula on on a 41-yard pass and caught the winning score in over me on a 25-yard pass. WT was down

Jus n Jackson, Angelo State University, was key
in limi ng the Falcons to just 37 yards rushing. The
sophomore recorded 11 total tackles with 2.0 tackles
for loss. It is the sixth me ASU has held a team under
100 yards rushing and Jacksonā€™s ļ¬ h game with
double-digit tackles.
Daelin Young, West Texas A&M University, helped
lead the Buļ¬€s to a miraculous comeback with nine
tackles, three solo stops, two sacks and 3.5 tackles
for loss as WT scored 14 points in the ļ¬nal two
minutes forcing over me and won 37-30 in the extra
period in the season ļ¬nale at Western New Mexico
on Saturday for a 6-5 season. Young had his second
game of two sacks this season and a season-high 3.5
tackles for loss as this marks the third consecu ve
game for Young of nine tackles. He leads the team
with 78 tackles, 55 solo stops, 15.5 tackles for loss
and 6.5 sacks.
Garre Blubaugh, Texas A&M University -
Commerce, was the Lionsā€™ leading tackler in a 30-10
win over Tarleton to claim their third straight LSC
tle. He had nine stops but his most important play
came on the ļ¬rst play of the second half, as he forced
a TSU fumble that was recovered deep in the heart
of Texans territory and immediately converted into a
touchdown, giving the Lions a lead they would not
relinquish.
Basil Jackson, Tarleton State University, led the
Texans with eight tackles, including seven solo stops
and 1.5 tackles for a loss. Itā€™s the second me this
season Jackson led the team in tackles.
Alfonso Wilson, Western New Mexico, wrapped up
his Mustang career tying for the team-high in tackles
with six, with four coming solo. He added a tackle for
loss and two pass breakups. He concludes the season
with 57 tackles, 31 solo, two tackles for loss, a fumble
recovery, three intercep ons and a punt return for
TD.
Devonte Williams, Texas A&M University -
Kingsville, ļ¬nished the regular season with another
intercep on, returning the pick 70 yards for a
touchdown... Williams added ļ¬ve tackles, two solo,
and on special teams, ended up with a 24 yard
recep on on a 4th down conversion.
Ron Reid, Tarleton State University, con nued to
give the Texans excellent work from the punter spot
as the junior from Burleson punted ļ¬ve mes for 219
yards and an average of 43.8 yards per punt with a
long of 56 yards. He also pinned one of his ļ¬ve punts
inside the 20 yard line.
John Cummings, West Texas A&M University,
punted a career-high eight mes for 343 yards and a
42.9 average in the Buļ¬€sā€™ thrilling 37-30 over me win
at Western New Mexico Saturday. He had a long punt
of 52 yards in the game as he ļ¬nished the season
leading the league in pun ng average at 41.9 per
punt. For the season he had 42 punts for 1,759 yards
with a long of 69, two touchbacks, six fair catches,
seven inside the 20 and seven over 50 yards.
Tyler Vargas, Western New Mexico, kept his
pun ng game s ll near the top of the conference
averaging 39.4 yards on ļ¬ve tries, with a long of 57
and one inside the 20. He added ļ¬ve kickoļ¬€s for
an average of 56.8 yards and two touchbacks. He
connected on three extra points and added a 27-yard
ļ¬eld goal.
Bailey Hale, Eastern New Mexico University, had
a strong game for the Greyhounds. His 27-yard ļ¬eld
goal in the opening quarter staked the Hounds to
a 3-0 lead. He was three-for-three on point-a er-
touchdown a empts and had a pair of punts over 40
yards.
Tristan Hernandez, Texas A&M University -
Kingsville, surprised all with his best Myles Carr
imita on... on a 4th and 9, the punter faked a punt
and threw a 24 yard spiral to Devonte Williams to
move the chains for the Hogs... Hernandez punted
four mes and pinned two inside the 20.

Eastern New Mexico
A er a pair of heartbreaking losses to Midwestern
State last year, the Eastern New Mexico football team
used some last-second magic of their own to earn a
road win over the 12th-ranked Mustangs. A er MSU
scored twice within a 20-second span to seize the
lead with 52 seconds le . Three seconds remained
on the seventh play of the ensuing possession, when
quarterback Wya Strand found Aaron Johnson in
the endzone for the winning score as me expired.
Deā€™Aundre Sanders and Quavshaun Branch combined
to make three intercep ons, all deep in Greyhound
territory. Running back Kamal Cass registered his
second straight 1,000-yard season and rushed for
a career-best 159 yards. The junior running back
topped the century mark in the ļ¬rst quarter. With the
win, the Hounds posted thrid third seven-win season
in the last four years.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State earned its seventh NCAA Division II
postseason appearance with an 8-2 overall record...
The No. 7-seeded Mustangs face No. 2 seed Ferris
State in the opening round Saturday morning in Big
Rapids, Mich. at 11 a.m. (Central Time)... Midwestern
State rallied to take a lead in the minute of the game
for the fourth me this season Saturday against
Eastern New Mexico, but the Greyhounds regrouped
to go 70 yards on seven plays in 49 seconds scoring
the winning TD with no me remaining... MSU has
won four games in the ļ¬nal minute this season which
matches the total of last minute victories in all the
previous years with Bill Maskill at the helm (since
2002)... The Mustangs were limited to 36 rushing
yards Saturday against Eastern New Mexico which
were the fewest by MSU since totalling 28 yards on
the ground against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Oct. 17,
1998... The Midwestern State oļ¬€ense managed just
8 yards on its ļ¬rst ļ¬ve possessions of the second half
before pu ng together drives of 54 and 49 yards to
take a lead on back-to-back Quade Coward-to-Jerryl
Yarbrough TD connec ons at 28-24 with 52 seconds
le ... Junior wide receiver DeAndre Black caught a
season-high eight passes for 89 yards... Black also
returned a kick 67 yards in the fourth quarter and
ļ¬nished with the fourth most kick return yards in a
single game in MSU history with 135... Junior wide
receiver Jerryl Yarbrough caught two passes -- both
for touchdowns -- for 62 yards... Of Yarbroughā€™s
10 recep ons this season, four have been for TDs
and two of those have come in the ļ¬nal minute of
the game... Sophomore safety Sirā€™Vell Ford led the
defense with 10 tackles including six solo stops. It was
his third game with at least 10 tackles this season...
Senior defensive lineman Darian Childers had a
season-high seven tackles including 2.5 stops for loss
with a quarterback sack... Childers leads the team
with 13.5 tackles for loss and has recorded a sack in
six consecu ve games...

Tarleton dropped its regular season ļ¬nale 30-10 to
No. 8 Texas A&M-Commerce.
Texas A&M-Commerce
A&M-Commerce claimed its third straight Lone Star
Conference championship with a 30-10 win over
Tarleton on Saturday. The Lions ļ¬nished the season
9-1 overall and 8-1 in the LSC to stand alone at the
top of the league. It is A&M-Commerceā€™s 23rd LSC
football championship. The Lionsā€™ 10-win season is
the ļ¬rst since 1990 and the sixth season with double
digit wins in school history. The Lions qualiļ¬ed for the
NCAA Division II Playoļ¬€s for the second consecu ve
year and will host an NCAA Playoļ¬€ game for the ļ¬rst
me since 1991. A&M-Commerce is the 4th seed in
Super Region IV and hosts 5th seed Colorado Mesa
at 2 p.m. Saturday. In the 30-10 win over Tarleton,
QB Luis Perez ļ¬nished the game 22-of-35 for 274
yards and a touchdown. Shawn Hooks returned a
punt 70 yards for a touchdown in the game. It is his
third punt return for a touchdown on the season.
The touchdown moves him into the lead for most
punt return touchdowns across all four divisions of
NCAA football. Ovie Urevbu had 110 yards rushing
on 14 carries. Richard Whitaker added 54 yards and
a touchdown on eight carries. Vincent Hobbs led
the Lions with 81 yards receiving on three catches,
including a highlight reel 54-yard touchdown catch
and run near the end of the ļ¬rst half. Dā€™Arthur Cowan
had six recep ons for 72 yards and Jus ce Luce added
54 yards on ļ¬ve recep ons. Neema Behbahani and
Yusef Sterling-Lowe each had an intercep on, giving
the Lions 19 intercep ons by 15 diļ¬€erent players for
the season. It was Sterling-Loweā€™s third intercep on
of the season. The Lions forced three turnovers in the
game, two of which led to touchdowns in the second
half. A er falling behind 10-0, the Lions scored the
ļ¬nal 30 points of the game.ā€
Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M-Kingsville extended its win streak to six
with a 53-39 victory at Oklahoma Panhandle State...
the Hogs close out the regular season with the
longest ac ve win streak in the LSC and in third place
in the conference... the eight wins are the most in a
season since 2010.
UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin closed out its 2016 Inaugural
Season with a 70-21 loss at Angelo State. Freshman
wide receiver Mitchell Leonard caught nine passes
for a season-high 215 yards on the night and scored
his seventh touchdown of the season. He ended the
year with touchdowns in each of his last four games.
Freshman quarterback Mathis threw for a season-
high 403 yards on comple ng 22 passes in the game
and threw mul ple touchdowns for the ļ¬ h me this
year.
West Texas A&M
The Buļ¬€s had a miraculous 37-30 over me win at
Western New Mexico on Saturday as they were down
30-16 with just over two minutes le in the game and
scored two touchdowns and converted an onside kick
to e the game at 30...Senior Chris Gilchrist scored
the ļ¬rst of his two touchdowns on a 41-yard recep on
to e the game with 16 seconds le and scored the
game-winner on a 25-yard recep on in over me as he
had a career-high eight catches for 109 yards and two
scores...WT won its ļ¬rst over me game since a 30-27
win on Nov. 18, 2006, versus Abilene Chris an...WT
stands at 3-2 all- me in over me games...Following
two disappoin ng oļ¬€ensive performances, WT raced
out to a 13-0 lead in the ļ¬rst quarter against WNMU
with a pick-six from Davontae Merriweather and a 43-
yard recep on from junior Eppy Henriques...WNMU
quickly erased the deļ¬cit and took a 14-13 lead, but
a season-long 48-yard ļ¬eld goal by senior Conner
Hollabaugh gave WT a 16-14 lead at intermission...
It was Hollabaughā€™s ļ¬rst made ļ¬eld goal since the
Tarleton State game (Sept. 24)...Up un l the ļ¬nal
two minutes of the game, WT was outscored 30-3,
but the two touchdowns in a ma er of 26 seconds
ed the game...WT scored on the Gilchrist strike in
OT and sophomore Chazz Sla nsky picked oļ¬€ WNMU
quarterback Javia Hall to seal the win in the extra
session...It was WTā€™s 12-straight winning season
though the 2014 season had four wins vacated as WT
ļ¬nished 6-5 that season, too...WT had its ļ¬rst game
of the season without a turnover or fumble...Coach
Nesbi now stands at 25-17 through four seasons at
WT...The Buļ¬€s had just 10 seniors on the squad as a
majority of the team is coming back next season...

Tarleton State.
Western New Mexico
WNMU concluded the season with an improbable
game against West Texas A&M as the Buļ¬€s rallied
for the win in over me. The Mustangs put together
a season-high 251 rushing yards and receiver Xavier
Ayers wrapped up his career with 75 more yards
against the Buļ¬€s to ļ¬nish with over 1,000 yards for
the second straight season. Williams had a big ļ¬nal
game in a season in which he emerged as the top

  • 1. LSC FOOTBALL Texas A&M-Commerce claimed its third straight and 23rd overall Lone Star Conference championship with an 8-1 league record. LSC football teams are 55-53 overall this season. The squads are 3-4 combined versus the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athle c Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Rocky Mountain Athle c Conference teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four. A&M-C, MSU CHOSEN FOR NCAA FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD Texas A&M-Commerce and Midwestern State were chosen to represent the Lone Star Conference in the 2016 NCAA Division II Football Championship. The Lions earned the No. 4 seed in Super Region Four, while the Mustangs are the seventh seed. A&M-C earned its second consecu ve berth to the NCAA championship ļ¬eld, and will host postseason ac on in Memorial Stadium for the ļ¬rst me since 1991. The Lions earned the fourth seed in Super Region Four, and will host ļ¬ h seeded Colorado Mesa on Saturday, November 19, at 2 p.m. MSU earned its seventh NCAA Division II playoļ¬€ appearance Sunday a ernoon as the No. 7 seed in Super Region Four. The return is his third punt return for a touchdown this season, which leads Division II and is ed for the lead across all four NCAA Divisions. OTHER TOP PERFORMERS DeAndre Williams, Western New Mexico, had a big ļ¬nal game in a season in which he emerged as the top running back on the team as a true freshman. He rushed 27 mes for 127 yards and two touchdowns, with a long carry of 40 yards that went for a score. He averaged 4.7 yards per a empt. He also added ļ¬ve recep ons for 32 yards, with a long catch of 11 yards. It was the second me this season Williams rushed for over 100 yards going for 146 against Midwestern State. The junior threw for a career-high 276 passing yards and gained a career-high 94 rushing yards. Faber accounted for six touchdowns (three rushing, three passing) and hit Mark Munson for an ASU record of 99-yard touchdown pass. He completed 15-of-22 passes and averaged 8.5 yards per rush in the win. Luis Perez, Texas A&M University - Commerce, was 22-of-35 in the Lionsā€™ 30-10 win over Tarleton to clinch their third straight LSC tle. Garre Blubaugh, Texas A&M University - Commerce, was the Lionsā€™ leading tackler in a 30-10 win over Tarleton to claim their third straight LSC tle. He had nine stops but his most important play came on the ļ¬rst play of the second half, as he forced a TSU fumble that was recovered deep in the heart of Texans territory and immediately converted into a touchdown, giving the Lions a lead they would not relinquish. Basil Jackson, Tarleton State University, led the Texans with eight tackles, including seven solo stops and 1.5 tackles for a loss. Itā€™s the second me this season Jackson led the team in tackles. Alfonso Wilson, Western New Mexico, wrapped up his Mustang career tying for the team-high in tackles with six, with four coming solo. He added a tackle for loss and two pass breakups. Devonte Williams, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, ļ¬nished the regular season with another intercep on, returning the pick 70 yards for a touchdown... Ron Reid, Tarleton State University, con nued to give the Texans excellent work from the punter spot as the junior from Burleson punted ļ¬ve mes for 219 yards and an average of 43.8 yards per punt with a long of 56 yards. John Cummings, West Texas A&M University, punted a career-high eight mes for 343 yards and a 42.9 average in the Buļ¬€sā€™ thrilling 37-30 over me win at Western New Mexico Saturday. He had a long punt of 52 yards in the game as he ļ¬nished the season leading the league in pun ng average at 41.9 per punt. LONE STAR CONFERENCE FOOTBALL WEEKLY RELEASE 3 Oklahoma Panhandle State * Texas A&M-Kingsville 53, Oklahoma Panhandle State 39 Tarleton State Tarleton dropped its regular season ļ¬nale 30-10 to No. 8 Texas A&M-Commerce. Texas A&M-Commerce A&M-Commerce claimed its third straight Lone Star Conference championship with a 30-10 win over Tarleton on Saturday. The Lions ļ¬nished the season 9-1 overall and 8-1 in the LSC to stand alone at the top of the league. It is A&M-Commerceā€™s 23rd LSC football championship. The Lionsā€™ 10-win season is the ļ¬rst since 1990 and the sixth season with double digit wins in school history. The Lions qualiļ¬ed for the NCAA Division II Playoļ¬€s for the second consecu ve year and will host an NCAA Playoļ¬€ game for the ļ¬rst me since 1991. A&M-Commerce is the 4th seed in Super Region IV and hosts 5th seed Colorado Mesa at 2 p.m. Saturday. In the 30-10 win over Tarleton, QB Luis Perez ļ¬nished the game 22-of-35 for 274 yards and a touchdown. Shawn Hooks returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown in the game. It is his third punt return for a touchdown on the season. The touchdown moves him into the lead for most punt return touchdowns across all four divisions of NCAA football. Ovie Urevbu had 110 yards rushing on 14 carries. Richard Whitaker added 54 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Vincent Hobbs led the Lions with 81 yards receiving on three catches, including a highlight reel 54-yard touchdown catch and run near the end of the ļ¬rst half. Dā€™Arthur Cowan had six recep ons for 72 yards and Jus ce Luce added 54 yards on ļ¬ve recep ons. Neema Behbahani and Yusef Sterling-Lowe each had an intercep on, giving the Lions 19 intercep ons by 15 diļ¬€erent players for the season. It was Sterling-Loweā€™s third intercep on of the season. The Lions forced three turnovers in the game, two of which led to touchdowns in the second half. UT Permian Basin UT Permian Basin closed out its 2016 Inaugural Season with a 70-21 loss at Angelo State. Freshman wide receiver Mitchell Leonard caught nine passes for a season-high 215 yards on the night and scored his seventh touchdown of the season. He ended the year with touchdowns in each of his last four games. Freshman quarterback Mathis threw for a season- high 403 yards on comple ng 22 passes in the game and threw mul ple touchdowns for the ļ¬ h me this year. West Texas A&M The Buļ¬€s had a miraculous 37-30 over me win at Western New Mexico on Saturday as they were down 30-16 with just over two minutes le in the game and scored two touchdowns and converted an onside kick to e the game at 30...Senior Chris Gilchrist scored the ļ¬rst of his two touchdowns on a 41-yard recep on to e the game with 16 seconds le and scored the game-winner on a 25-yard recep on in over me as he had a career-high eight catches for 109 yards and two scores...WT won its ļ¬rst over me game since a 30-27 win on Nov. 18, 2006, versus Abilene Chris an...WT stands at 3-2 all- me in over me games...Following two disappoin ng oļ¬€ensive performances, WT raced out to a 13-0 lead in the ļ¬rst quarter against WNMU with a pick-six from Davontae Merriweather and a 43- yard recep on from junior Eppy Henriques...WNMU quickly erased the deļ¬cit and took a 14-13 lead, but a season-long 48-yard ļ¬eld goal by senior Conner Hollabaugh gave WT a 16-14 lead at intermission... Western New Mexico WNMU concluded the season with an improbable game against West Texas A&M as the Buļ¬€s rallied for the win in over me. The Mustangs put together a season-high 251 rushing yards and receiver Xavier Ayers wrapped up his career with 75 more yards against the Buļ¬€s to ļ¬nish with over 1,000 yards for the second straight season. Williams had a big ļ¬nal game in a season in which he emerged as the top running back on the team as a true freshman. He rushed 27 mes for 127 yards and two touchdowns, with a long carry of 40 yards that went for a score. He averaged 4.7 yards per a empt. He also added ļ¬ve recep ons for 32 yards, with a long catch of 11 yards. It was the second me this season Williams rushed for over 100 yards going for 146 against Midwestern State. Wilson wrapped up his Mustang career tying for the team-high in tackles with six, with four coming solo. He added a tackle for loss and two pass breakups. He concludes the season with 57 tackles, 31 solo, two tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, three intercep ons and a punt return for TD. Vargas kept his pun ng game s ll near the top of the conference averaging 39.4 yards on ļ¬ve tries, with a long of 57 and one inside the 20. He added ļ¬ve kickoļ¬€s for an average of 56.8 yards and two touchbacks. He connected on three extra points and added a 27-yard ļ¬eld goal.
