1. LSC FOOTBALL
Texas A&M-Commerce, Midwestern State, West Texas A&M, Tarleton State and Western New Mexico picked up
victories a er a full week of Lone Star Conference ac on.
A&M-C and MSU remain unbeaten this season.
LSC football teams are 15-13 overall this season. The squads are 3-3 combined versus the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athle c Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Rocky Mountain Athle c Conference
teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.
LSC FOOTBALL ON ESPN3
A pair of Lone Star Conference football games are part of the 2016 Division II Football Showcase schedule and
will be broadcast on ESPN3 and WatchESPN.
For a second straight season, A&M-Commerce will host a na onal broadcast on October 8 as the Lions wel-
come Midwestern State. The game starts at 7 p.m.
UT Permian Basin hosted West Texas A&M in the Falcon’s first LSC football game in the program’s ini al
season. Due to inclement weather the game was postponed and was not broadcast as scheduled.
NCAA Division II announced 18 of the 22 regular-season football games that will be carried on ESPN3, Wat-
chESPN and American Sports Network, a er the division entered a three-year agreement in 2015 to deliver
Division II athle cs events. By comparison, only seven games were televised in each of the 2013 and 2014
seasons.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Javia Hall, Western New Mexico, SR, QB, Dallas, Texas, Skyline HS
Hall was on fire from start to finish against Oklahoma Panhandle State, accoun ng for all six of the Mustang
touchdowns in the 44-21 victory. He was able to escape several would-be sacks to setup the first score of the
day on an 18-yard TD pass. Hall then displayed his strong arm airing one out for a 75-yard strike. He used his
legs to tally the next score on a 14-yard run. To close the opening half Hall added 25- and 47-yard TD passes. He
ended the scoring in the fourth with an 11-yard scamper. In all, Hall was 17-of-25 for 249 yards with four TDs.
He also led the team in the run game as well carrying the ball 13 mes for 62 yards and a pair of scores. Hall
helped run an efficient offense that piled up 461 total yards, went 7-14 on third-down, 4-5 on red zone chances
and had zero turnovers.
DEFENSIVE
Cody Burtscher, Tarleton State University, SR, LB, Glen Rose, Texas, Glen Rose HS
Burtscher con nued to add to his total tackles as the senior linebacker led the Tarleton defense to its best
performance against a Lone Star Conference rival in nearly seven seasons. The Burtscher-led Texans held
Angelo State to just five points on 222 yards of total offense. The five points allowed is the first me since
Oct. 24, 2009 that Tarleton has held a conference opponent to fewer than 10 points. The 222 total yards is
the fewest allowed by Tarleton since Oct. 11, 2014. Burtscher added 0.5 tackles for a loss and 0.5 sacks while
recovering one fumble and forcing three QB hurries. With his team-high 11 tackles, Burtscher extended his
streak of double-digit tackle performances to eight in a row da ng back to last year.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Tanner Graeber, Midwestern State University, SR, K, League City, Texas, Clear Creek HS (McNeese State)
Graeber connected on an 18-yard field goal with 12 seconds remaining to li No. 12-ranked Midwestern State
to a 32-30 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday night at Javelina Stadium. The senior from League City hit
on 29-yard field goal to open scoring for MSU and was successful on two of his three point-a er a empts.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Josh Stevens, Angelo State University, led the Rams offensively against Tarleton State with over 100 yards
rushing. The junior was the first ASU back this season to eclipse the 100 yard mark with 128 yards on 23 carries.
He averaged 5.6 yards per carry and had a long of 14 yards.
Vincent Johnson, Midwestern State University, rushed for 101 yards and three touchdowns to lead 12th-
ranked Midwestern State to a 32-30 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday night at Javelina Stadium. The
5-10, 203-pound sophomore scored three mes for the second consecu ve games notching three of MSU’s
four touchdowns in a decisive third quarter. Johnson’s heroics allowed MSU to erase a 15-3 hal ime deficit
outscorig the Hoggies 26-3 in the frame. It was Johnson’s second collegiate 100-yard game.
Ethan Brinkley, West Texas A&M University, threw for a season-high 356 yards and two touchdowns, while
running for one as the Buffs downed UT Permian Basin 48-14 Sunday a ernoon in Odessa. Brinkley was a
career-best 34 of 50 for 356 yards with the two scores and a long pass of 28 yards. He ran for his second career
score in as many weeks. He threw to 10 different Buffs in the game and nine different WT players had at least
two catches each. The 50 a empts were the most in a game for the Buffs since Dus n Vaughan had 50 against
Eastern New Mexico on Nov. 2, 2013.
Luis Perez, Texas A&M University - Commerce, completed passes to nine different receivers, leading the No.
7 Lions to a 49-10 rout of Eastern New Mexico in A&M-Commerce’s LSC opener... He completed 77.4% of his

Joseph Sadler, Tarleton State University, put the
Tarleton offense on his back as the Texan workhorse
back ran the ball 20 mes for 151 yards, including a
73-yard touchdown, to lead the Purple and White to
a win in their Lone Star Conference opener against
Angelo State. The 151-yard total es his career high,
which he set on Oct. 24 last season. His big play of the
night came with 4:27 le to play in the third quarter
when Sadler broke free for a 73-yard touchdown
run to extend the Tarleton lead to 28-5. His 73-yard
scamper is the first rush of over 70 yards since 2014
for Tarleton.
D.J. White, Texas A&M University - Commerce,
led a Lions’ defensive effort that held the na on-
leading ENMU rushing a ack to half of its season
average on the ground... His nine tackles and one
tackle for loss led A&M-Commerce... ENMU averaged
4.2 yards per rush and had 227 yards a er averaging
455 yards per game entering the contest... The Lions
also intercepted three passes for the second straight
game...
Fred Lawrence, Angelo State University, made
seven total stop, all solo, and an intercep on. The
junior also was able to pick-up a blocked kick and
return it 100 yards for two points. It is Abilene na ves
second intercep on of the season.
Davontae Merriweather, West Texas A&M
University, had another outstanding game for the
Buffs as he tallied a team-high seven tackles with five
solo stops and two tackles for loss for seven yards in
the Buffs’ 48-14 win at UT Permian Basin on Sunday.
Merriweather was all over the field once again and
the Buffs held UTPB to just 262 yards of total offense
in the game. Merriweather leads the team with 24
total tackles and 15 solo stops with three tackles for
loss for 19 yards, one intercep on and a blocked kick.
Emond Hobbs, Texas A&M University - Kingsville,
was a one-man wrecking crew, picking off Quade
Coward twice - one coming late in the third quarter in
the red zone... Hobbs also forced a Mustang fumble
in the near upset... the DB finished with six tackles,
two picks and one FF.
Cullen Cra , Midwestern State University,
intercepted a pass in the end zone at the end of the
first half to keep Midwestern State within shou ng
distance of Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday night at
Javelina Stadium. The senior from Houston finished
with six tackles and broke up another pass but
outleaped a taller receiver to hold TAMUK’s hal ime
advantage to 15-3. The Mustangs rallied to score 26
points in the third quarter to hold on for a 32-30 win.
Buck Wilson, Texas A&M University - Commerce,
averaged 39 yards per kickoff return in the win
at ENMU, with a long of 50 yards... A er Wilson
returns, the Lions started at their own 31 and
scored a touchdown, and the ENMU 49 and scored
a touchdown... Wilson’s 28.7 yard kickoff return
average ranks third in the league and 35th na onally...
Conner Hollabaugh, West Texas A&M University,
broke into the top 10 (10th) all- me in career scoring
at WT with 193 career points. He went 2 for 3 in field
goals and 6 of 6 in extra-points for 12 points in the
Buffs’ 48-14 win over UT Permian Basin on Sunday.
Hollabaugh converted field goals for 42 and 38 yards,
while narrowly missing a 53-yarder. He also tallied
nine kickoffs for 63.2 yards and five touchbacks.
Tyler Vargas, Western New Mexico, affected field
posi on throughout the game against OPSU. He was
strong in the pun ng game, averaging 54.3 yards per
a empt with a long of 67 and two inside the 20. In
kickoffs, he averaged 59.5 per a empt on eight tries
with two going for touchbacks. He went a perfect 5-5
on point a er tries and also added a 34-yard field
goal.
Casey Eyman, Angelo State University, kicked a
season long field goal with a 41 yard kick and averaged
a season high 45.5 yards per punt. The junior had six
punts with two inside the 20 and a long of 53 yards.
Bailey Hale, Eastern New Mexico University,
connected on a season-best 37-yard field goal against
seventh-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce. He also had
one touch back on three kickoffs.
Taylor Massey, Tarleton State University, made
the most of his me on the special teams unit for
Tarleton. With the Tarleton defense keeping Angelo
State off the board for most of the game, Massey
took his only kickoff return 34 yards up the sidelines
for a career long kickoff return. He also made a tackle
and blocked a field goal for the Texans.

The Rams blocked a kick for the third straight game
and now have six on the season ... Josh Stevens
became the first Ram to rush for over 100 yards this
season with 128 on 23 carries against Tarleton State

... ASU will play its first home game on Saturday at 7

Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico University football team
hosted seventh-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce
on Saturday at Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound
Stadium. Kamal Cass, the top rusher in the country
went for 62 hard fought yards, to lead Eastern’s
ground game, which finished with 227 yards. Aaron
Johnson made a 35-yard catch in the fourth quarter,
followed by a 27-yard touchdown run from Paul
Terry. Tayshaun Gary contributed 48 rushing yards,
while Adam Lucero finished with 63 passing yards
and 33 rushing yards. Bailey Hale connected on a 37-
yard field goal late in the third quarter. The defense
was paced by seven tackles each from Toby Amadi
and Quavshaun Branch, while Harry Lehauli added
four quarterback pressures. A er a two-game home
stand, the Greyhounds will visit Angelo State, this
Saturday.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State improved to 12-6 all me against
Texas A&M-Kingsville by winning its sixth straight and
11 of the last 12 against Hoggies... The Mustangs are
39-3 in games played before Oct. 1 since the start of
the 2006 season... MSU has faced deficits in each of
its last seven games and in 11 games since the start of
last season. The Mustangs are now 9-2 in that game...
The Mustangs have overcome double-figure deficits
to win five mes since the start of last season...
Sophomore Vincent Johnson delivered his second

Oklahoma Panhandle State
Despite a 90-yard return for touchdown by Marcus
McCants on a blocked field goal by WNMU in the
opening drive of the game, the Aggies fell in their
first LSC matchup of the season 44-21 to Western
New Mexico. Running back Rod Moore contributed
106 yards rushing to help the Aggies mark their
best running performance of the season thus
far; Panhandle averaged 7.1 yards per carry and
accumulated 186 yards on the ground. Quarterback
Shane Truelove collected 200 yards in the air with 15
comple ons on 31 a empts. Truelove suffered one
sack and one intercep on to the Mustang defense.
Panhandle State’s defense was responsible for one
sack, one QBH and five pass breakups. Lejarius
Anthony got a hand on the blocked field goal that
resulted in the Aggies’ first TD of the game. Panhandle
State now sits 1-2 on the season; the Aggies will
embark on their fourth straight road trip this week as
they travel to Wichita Falls, Texas to take on a highly-
ranked Midwestern State team.
Tarleton State
Tarleton head coach Todd Whi en earned his first
victory back at the helm of Tarleton. The Texans
toppled Angelo State 35-5 Saturday night to improve
to 1-0 in the LSC standings. It marked the first me
since 2009 that the Texans held a conference team
without a touchdown.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions won their
Lone Star Conference opener at Eastern New Mexico,
49-10... The Lions entered the game ranked No. 7
na onally in the AFCA poll and No. 11 na onally in
the D2Football.com poll… The No. 7 na onal ranking
is the highest A&M-Commerce has ever been ranked
in the AFCA Division II poll… The Lions are now 3-0
overall and 1-0 in the Lone Star Conference… At
ENMU, quarterback Luis Perez completed 24-of-31
passes (77.4%) for 342 yards and 5 touchdowns, all in
the first half… Lance Evans had seven catches for 78
yards and a TD, D’Arthur Cowan had six catches for 82
yards and a TD… Jus ce Luce, Darby Smith, and John
Thomas each caught touchdown passes… 10 different
receivers caught 27 passes as Perez and Gabriel
Rodriguez combined for 378 passing yards… Richard
Cooper had 11 carries for 64 yards and a score…
Tristen Slaughter had five carries for 16 yards and a

Texas A&M-Kingsville nearly upset No. 12/10
Midwestern State 32-30 a er scoring a touchdown
with 1:59 remaining in the game... despite three
turnovers in the third quarter, the Javelinas scored
two touchdowns in the fourth and took the late
lead before MSU hit a field goal with 12 seconds
remaining... the Hogs are 2-1 on the year and head to
A&M-Commerce next week.

The WNMU offense carried over the momentum
from the second half against Eastern New Mexico into
piling up 44 points and 461 yards in the win against
OPSU to give the Mustangs their first LSC victory in
school history. The defense made sure not to be le
out forcing three turnovers, while the Mustangs took
care of the ball with zero turnovers. Outside of an
early blocked field goal, special teams favored WNMU
and helped give them a big advantage throughout the
game. The Mustangs held the edge in punt average
(54.3-38.8), kickoffs (59.5-43) and kickoff returns (34-
17), which included a 82-yard return by Treydonte
Hill. WNMU will hit the road this coming week as they
