Texas A&M-Commerce, Midwestern State, and West Texas A&M remain unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play
a er wins last week. A&M-C and MSU also improved to 3-0 overall.
LSC football teams are 20-18 overall this season. The squads are 3-3 combined versus the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athle c Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Rocky Mountain Athle c Conference
teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.
LSC FOOTBALL ON ESPN3
A pair of Lone Star Conference football games are part of the 2016 Division II Football Showcase schedule and
will be broadcast on ESPN3 and WatchESPN.
For a second straight season, A&M-Commerce will host a na onal broadcast on October 8 as the Lions
welcome Midwestern State. The game starts at 7 p.m.
UT Permian Basin hosted West Texas A&M in the Falcon’s first LSC football game in the program’s ini al
season. Due to inclement weather the game was postponed and was not broadcast as scheduled.
NCAA Division II announced 18 of the 22 regular-season football games that will be carried on ESPN3,
WatchESPN and American Sports Network, a er the division entered a three-year agreement in 2015 to
deliver Division II athle cs events. By comparison, only seven games were televised in each of the 2013 and
2014 seasons.

Richard Cooper, Texas A&M University - Commerce, SR, RB, Angleton, Texas, Angleton HS
Cooper rushed for a career-high 224 yards on 19 carries with two touchdowns in the Lions 38-36 win over Texas
A&M-Kingsville... His 224 yards is the 11th-most in a game in the long history of Lion football... It is the 13th-
most in a game in Division II this season... He now leads the league in yards per carry (7.2)... His 11.8 yards per
carry average for the game is 1/10th of a yard short of the school record for a single game... It is Cooper’s 12th
game of over 100 yards rushing in his career...
DEFENSIVE
Melvin Robinson, Angelo State University, SR, LB, Victorville, Calif., Rancho HS
Robinson recorded a career high 19 tackles against Eastern New Mexico. The senior helped hold the Greyhounds
to just 51 yards in the second half as ASU mounted a comeback. Seven of his 19 tackles were solo and the
California na ve also recovered a fumble. Robinson’s effort ed for the second-most tackles in NCAA Division
II this year.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Hector Dominguez, Texas A&M University - Commerce, SR, P, Monterey Park, Calif., Monterey Park HS
Dominguez pinned the Javelinas inside their own 20-yardline three mes - all of which were inside the
10-yardline as well. His final punt of the night went out of bounds inside the Texas A&M-Kingsville 1-yardline,
forcing a 99-yard Javelina drive. Dominguez punted seven mes with a long punt of 49 yards in the Lions 38-36
victory.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Devon Paye, West Texas A&M University, had a career-high 148 yards rushing with a touchdown on 21
carries for a 7.0 average. He had a 40-yard scamper late in the game to seal the 37-25 win over Tarleton State
in the 2016 home opener. It was Paye’s second 100-yard game of the season as he has 403 yards rushing and
two touchdowns. He also had two catches for 36 yards in the win over TSU for a career-best 184 all-purpose
yards.
Kamal Cass, Eastern New Mexico University, turned in another strong performance and scored the first two
touchdowns of the game against Angelo State. He reached the century mark for the third me this season and
leads the Lone Star Conference in rushing by 183 yards.
Adrian Seales, Midwestern State University, delivered his second career 100-yard performance rushing for
103 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown to help 11th-ranked Midwestern State to a 42-24 win over Oklahoma
Panhandle State. The 5-10, 205-pound sophomore from Stafford polished off a 10-play, 75-yard drive early in
the fourth quarter to push MSU’s lead to 35-24.
Casen Cook, Angelo State University, provided the Rams a spark in the second half against ENMU. The
redshirt freshman eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark for the first me in his career with 102 yards on 17
carries. The Wylie na ve also threw his first passing TD’s of his career. He tossed two scores and threw for 76
yards.
Bubba Tandy, Tarleton State University, did everything in his power to spark the Tarleton offense Saturday
night as the senior wideout turned in his first 100-yard receiving performance of the season with five catches
for 125 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Both of Tandy’s scores came in the second half when Tarleton needed
them most. His big play of the night came on a 60-yard pitch and catch from QB Zed Woerner. Tandy also added
a punt return of 15 yards.
Xavier Ayers, Western New Mexico, kept the momentum going from the previous two weeks, adding

another solid seven catch, 139 yard and three score
performance in the win over the Falcons. He started
the scoring just over three minutes into the contest
when he got loose for a 41-yard TD strike from
Javia Hall. Ayers closed the first half with a 10-yard
TD recep on again from Hall and then had the last
offensive touchdown of the game snagging a 25-yard
toss from Ma Hommel. Ayers now has 22 recep ons
for 391 yards and five touchdowns on the season,
averaging 97.8 yards.
Sir’Vell Ford, Midwestern State University, proved
to be a force for the Midwestern State defense
notching a career-high 11 tackles to go along
with two intercep ons to lead the Mustangs to a
42-24 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State. The
5-11 sophomore safety intercepted OPSU’s Shane
Truelove on the Aggies’ first play from scrimmage and
returned it 24 yards to the OPSU 21-yard line to set
up Midwestern’s second score of the game. Ford’s
second pick thwarted the Aggies in the end zone
allowing the Mustangs to maintain a double-digit
advantage midway through the fourth quarter.
Dominic Barry, Western New Mexico, was a force
all game long in WNMU’s win over UTPB. He led the
team with 11 tackles, including seven solo. He also
added three tackles for loss, a pass breakup, a forced
fumble and sack. His sack and forced fumble came
on the same play early in the second half, that was
recovered by teammate Aaron Leauma and returned
for a TD.
Daelin Young, West Texas A&M University, was all
over the field in the Buffs’ 37-25 win over Tarleton
State on Saturday. He recorded nine total tackles, six
solo stops with one tackle for loss for seven yards and
one sack for seven yards. The nine total tackles and
six solo stops were career-bests for Young.
Chase Varnado, Tarleton State University, JR, DE,
Stephenville, TX, Stephenville HS, Chase Varnado
was a defensive machine for the Texans against West
Texas A&M. The junior defensive lineman made seven
tackles on the night – all of them solo – with 2.0 sacks
for 16 yards lost on the QB drops. Varnado also forced
a fumble and recorded one QB hurry.
Hatari Byrd, Texas A&M University - Commerce,
had six total stops and blocked a game-winning field
goal a empt in the Lions’ 38-36 win over A&M-
KIngsville... All of Byrd’s stops were solos and his
blocked kick sealed the win as me expired...
Desmond Blue, Eastern New Mexico University,
cri cal in both pass rush and coverage du es as
Eastern’s defense played a key role in Saturday’s win
at Angelo State. For the game, the Hounds allowed
just three third down conversions in 14 tries. As a
result, ASU held the ball for just 21:50 of the game.
Blue made his presence known with a sack on the
Ram’s first offensive play of the game. With ENMU
holding a 7-0 lead at the start of the second quarter,
he made his second intercep on of the season
and returned it to the ASU 22-yard line to set up a
Greyhound touchdown drive. With less than one
minute remaining in the first half, Blue helped keep
the shutout going, with a fumble recovery at the
ENMU 12-yard line.
Robert Grays, Midwestern State University,
performance on special teams played a key role in
helping No. 11 Midwestern State improve to 3-0 with
a 42-24 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State Sunday
at Memorial Stadium. The 5-8, 155-pound true
freshman from Fresno, Texas returned the opening
kickoff 73 yards to set up the Mustangs’ first score
of the game. The return was the seventh longest in
program history. Grays added a 27-yard return in
the second and a 28-yarder in the third quarter to
finish with 128 yards on three returns which ranks
as the fi h most in a single game in program history.
He also made a tackle and broke up a pass from his
cornerback posi on.
Taylor Massey, Tarleton State University, Massey
had a career night in the kick return game as the true
freshman from Cisco returned four kickoffs for 114
yards, which is the first 100-yard returner this year
for Tarleton. The freshman had a long return of 40
yards on the night.
Mazin Khalil, Western New Mexico, made a big
special teams play on the kickoff against UT Permian
Basin as he returned an on-side kick 45 yards for a
touchdown. He also added three tackles, with two
coming solo.
John Cummings, West Texas A&M University, had
four punts for 176 yards and a 44.0 average in the
Buffs’ 37-25 win over Tarleton State on Saturday. He
had a career-long punt of 61 yards in the game with
one touchback and one punt inside the 20. For the
season he is pun ng at a 43.8 clip with three punts
over 50 yards, two over 60 and three inside the 20 in
12 total punts.
Bailey Hale, Eastern New Mexico University,
averaged a season-best 41.2 yards on five punts
in Eastern’s 25-14 win at Angelo State. He had two
kicks downed inside the Ram 20-yard line and booted
a career-best 51-yard punt in the fourth quarter,
followed by a 50-yard punt later in the quarter. The
two kicks allowed a combined one yard in returns and
both pinned ASU inside their own six-yard line. Hale’s
31-yard field goal in the second quarter was the third
straight made field goal by the redshirt freshman. He
also had two touchbacks on five kickoffs.

with their seventh of the season ... ASU leads the

the seven blocks ... The Ram defense limited ENMU
to 51 yards of offense in the second half ... Carsen
Cook became the second ASU player to rush for at
least 100 yards in a game with 102 yards on 17 carries
... Jermiah Baines caught his first career touchdown
from Cook ... The Rams will travel to Kingsville to face

Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico University football team
bounced back from last week with a 25-14 win at
Angelo State. The game saw ENMU limit the Rams
to just three third-down conversions and force five
turnovers. The result allowed the Hounds to hold on
to the ball for 38:10 of play. Desmond Blue’s sack of
Ram quarterback and subsequent intercep on on
the respec ve first plays of the first two quarters
set the tone. Kamal Cass scored the game’s first two
touchdowns on short runs and finished with 141
yards on the ground. Eastern also had a strong game
on special teams, with Bailey Hale notching his third
consecu ve made field goal and averaging a season-
best 51.2 yards on five punts, with two downed inside
the Ram 20-yard line. Eastern’s three intercep ons in
the game were the most since last season’s win at
Tarleton State. This week, the Greyhounds will host
West Texas A&M in the annual Wagon Wheel Game.

Tarleton State
Trailing by 19 late in the third quarter, Tarleton’s grit
and determina on was on full display Saturday night
as a valiant comeback a empt came up just short in
a 37-25 loss to West Texas A&M. The teams, which
had combined for 23 points in the first 41 minutes
of ac on would go on to combine for 39 points in
the final 18:54 as the heart of Tarleton was on full
display in Canyon. Zed Woerner boasted his best
individual performance of the season as the junior
signal caller threw for 368 yards on 26-38 with three
touchdowns and one pick. He found seven different
receivers on the night, but none bigger than the trio
of Jeff Thomas, Tandy, and Del’Michael High. Thomas
(132) and Tandy (125) each topped 100 yards with
eight and five catches, respec vely. They are the
first Tarleton teammates to top 100 receiving yards
in a game since Le’Nard Meyers and Tandy against
Eastern New Mexico on Oct. 17, 2015. Tandy added
a team-high two touchdowns and High chipped in
with four catches for 62 yards and a score. Tarleton
will host UT Permian Basin next Saturday at 7 p.m. in
Stephenville.

The No. 6 A&M-Commerce Lions survived the upset-
minded A&M-Kingsville Javelinas this week, 38-36, at
home… A&M-Commerce is now 4-0 overall and 2-0 in
LSC play… This is the Lions’ first 4-0 start since 1990…
The Lions have beaten the Hogs to win the Chennault
Cup for five straight years… The Lions’ No. 6 ranking
in the AFCA poll is the highest ranking in that poll

victory over UT Permian Basin. The Mustangs had
zero turnovers for the second straight week, went
9-16 on third down and 5-5 on red zone chances. Top

and Mazin Khalil for nomina ons of the week. QB

yards and four TD. Tyler Vargas averaged 40.8 yards
on five punts, with a long of 51 and three inside the
