Pool finished fourth at the DBU Patriot Invitational (8k) on Saturday morning... He ran the course in 25:54.0 and
led the Lions to second place at the race in the team standings...
FEMALE
Katelin Huckabee, Tarleton State University, SR, Belton, Texas, Belton HS
Huckabee started her senior season off in dominating fashion by winning the Bob Gravett Invitational and
running the 5,000-meter course in 19:47.88. Huckabee helped the defending Lone Star Conference champions
win the overall meet with a score of 16 points.
OTHER TOP RUNNERS
Mirko Blaettler, Cameron University, placed first at the Aggie Dual by finishing the 8,000-meter race in 27:34
with a four second lead. Blaettler’s time was 29 seconds faster than last year’s top finisher in the race and
would have been the second quickest at that length in 2015 based on LSC member finishes.
Blake Whalen, West Texas A&M University, defending LSC Newcomer of the Year, had a strong start to this
season this past weekend at the Border Classic. The senior from Dubuque, Iowa finished sixth covering the
5,000-meter course in 15 minutes 42 seconds. It marks the second straight season that he finished in the top
10.
Jarred Elizondo, Tarleton State University, took home a first-place finish for the Texans in the 8,000-meter in
a time of 26:27.47 in his first collegiate cross country meet. The freshman helped give Tarleton the top finish at
the Bob Gravett Invitational with a perfect score of 15 points.
Jose Rojas, Western New Mexico, the only returning runner on the squad this year, paced the team in his first
meet since 2014 coming in 33rd with a time of 25:23.4. Placed 33rd out of 100 runners at George Kyte Classic
Open Race.
Guadalupe Cantoran, Western New Mexico, led the way for the Lady Mustangs, carrying over her strong
runs from last year and in the spring track season landing in 26th with a time of 17:13.7. Finished 26 out of 95
runners at George Kyte Classic Open Race.
Caitlyn Cecchini, West Texas A&M University, paced the Lady Buffs to a third place finish at the Border Classic
on Friday night. The Cedar Park, Texas native finished 10th covering the 4,000-meter course in 15 minutes 35
seconds.

The Tarleton cross country teams came home with a sweep of the Bob Gravett Invitational hosted by Ouachita
Baptist on Friday as the Texans and TexAnns both took home first-place finishes. The Texans, who earned the
lowest possible score with 15 points, claimed the top seven spots in the meet with Jarred Elizondo, a freshman,
winning the individual title in the 8,000-meter course in a time of 26:27.47. Peyton Heinig (26:48.35) and
Joshua Perez (27:01.23) finished in second and third, respectively. Michael Simcho came in fourth (27:32.82),
while Robert Pereira (28:01.11), Quenten Lasseter (28:05.40) and Andrew Clark (28: 59.81) rounded out the
Texan runners. The TexAnns came away with a score of 16 points as senior Katelin Huckabee won the individual
title in the 5,000-meter course in a time of 19:47.88. Esmeralda Fuentes was right behind Huckabee, coming in
second place in 19:48.07. Andelynn Carlton (20:15.16) and Gretzel Jimenez (20:49.38) helped give the TexAnns
the top four spots in the standings. Emily Ayers finished in sixth (21:39.49) and Gabrielle Hawes (21:51.19)
placed seventh. The TexAnns claimed eight of the top 10 spots with Molly Cross (22:07.89) and Lisa Flores
(22:17.65) coming in ninth and tenth. Tarleton’s next meet will be at the Texas A&M Invitational in College
Station on Sept. 24.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Texas A&M-Commerce Lions cross country teams opened the 2016 season at the DBU Patriot Invitational
in Mansfield… The Lion men earned second place in the team standings and the Lion women finished in third…
Turner Pool finished in fourth place in the men’s race to lead three Lions in the top 10… Pool finished in 25:54.0,
Evan Luecke was seventh (26:19.3) and Trevor Montgomery was ninth (26:25.4)… In the women’s race, three
Lions finished in the top 20, led by Terra Truitt (19:09.0) in 13th… Brandi Stalder (19:23.2) was 15th and Jasmine
Amo (19:50.4) was 19th… The Lions are off this week and are next in action at Missouri Southern’s Southern
Stampede on September 17…

WT opened the 2016 season at the Border Classic on Friday night. The men’s team finished second while the
women’s team finished third. The Buffs were led by senior Blake Whalen and junior Owen Hind, who finished
6th and 10th respectively. Tyson Wieland was 14th followed by Michael Barnett in 17th and Brandon Rivera
in 19th. Caitlyn Cecchini was the top finisher for the Lady Buffs in 10th. The junior from Cedar Park, Texas
covered the 4,000-meter course in 15 minutes 35 seconds. The next five runners from WT were all freshman
with Mallory Shehan finishing 11th, Leslie Davis in 13th, Briana Hernandez in 14th, Samantha Cabrera in 16th
and Kristen Elzalde in 22nd.
Western New Mexico
Cantoran has led the team in five straight meets dating back to last season...Her 26th place finish is just one
off of her high finish with WNMU after placing 25th at the Joe Vigil Open last year...Team has finished sixth of
better in four straight season-opening meets, including a first-place finish at George Kyte Open Race in 2013...
Men add their fourth straight fifth or better finish to start the season...Have enjoyed success at George Kyte
over the years placing third (2013) and fifth (2014).
