LSC INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2018 Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place at the Texas Tech Sports
Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas on February 24-25.
The meet begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and continues at 11 a.m. Sunday. Results and complete meet information

The league has four men’s and two women’s teams in the top 25 of the latest national team computer rankings
conducted by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The men’s rankings included
No. 6 Texas A&M-Commerce, No. 12 Texas A&M-Kingsville, No. 18 West Texas A&M, and No. 22 Eastern New Mexico,
while the women are represented by No. 2 WT, and No. 6 Angelo State.
A&M-C is the three-time defending men’s champion, while WT has won the last four titles on the women’s side.
The Texas Tech Sports Performance Center, a state-of-the-art facility that opened this year, boasts an indoor 200-
meter banked track.
The NCAA Division II Championships are March 9-10 in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field athletes have recorded 12 NCAA Division II Automatic qualifying marks

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN’S TRACK
Dalton Stidham, Tarleton State University, JR, Boyd, Texas, Boyd HS
Stidham had a very impressive performance at the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier. Stidham set a new school record
previously held by him for the third time this season. The junior from Boyd placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with an
NCAA provisional mark 8.00 seconds. Stidham topped his 14-day 8.10 record that he posted at the Texas Tech Open
earlier this month.
MEN’S FIELD
Kenneth Lloyd, Eastern New Mexico University, SR, East Chicago, Ind., East Chicago Central HS / Vincennes
At Texas Tech's Matador Qualifier, Kenneth Lloyd won the men's high jump with an ENMU indoor-record leap of 6-11.5
(2.12m). His jump was two inches higher than South Plains' Zach Marshall. The jump currently ranks fifth in NCAA
Division II.
2. WOMEN’S TRACK
Kami Norton, Angelo State University, SR, Albany, Texas, Albany
Norton ran a lifetime best and the No. 9 time in Division II in the 60-meter hurdles. The senior clocked an altitude
converted 8.59 to place second at the Matador Qualifier at Texas Tech. It is a personal best and NCAA Division II
provisional qualifying time for the Albany native.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Minna Svaerd, Texas A&M University-Commerce, FR, Karlstad, Sweden
Svaerd broke the Lone Star Conference record in the women's pole vault at the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier. She
cleared the bar at 12-6 (3.82m) on her third attempt to set the league record with the nation's eighth-best mark this
season. She ranks first in the LSC in pole vault and 3rd in the 400m.

Steven Cooper, West Texas A&M University, impressed this past weekend at the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier at the
Sports Performance Center in Lubbock. The senior hit a provisional mark in the men's 200m Dash with a time of 21.68 to
finish sixth overall in the event to currently rank 47th in the nation."
Steeven Martinez, Texas A&M University-Commerce, set a school record in the 1,000m run at the Texas Tech
Matador Qualifier, crossing the line in 2:40.47, besting the previous record by more than nine seconds.
3. Zachary Martinez, Tarleton State University, competed at the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier. The freshman jumper
from Waco finished long jump in 24th place, with a jump of 19-11.75 (6.09m).
Gretzel Jimenez, Tarleton State University, had the best performance from the TexAnns at the Texas Tech Matador
Qualifier. The sophomore distance runner ran a career best 10:43.99 in the 3000-meter run and finished third-place in
her race.
Norma Cunigan, West Texas A&M University, had a strong showing at the Texas Tech Matador Qualififer last Friday
afternoon at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock.The junior from Wills Point hit a provisional mark in the
women's Shot Put with a throw of 47-11.75 (14.62m). She currently ranks 13th in the nation in the Shot Put and 152nd
in the Weight Throw."
Daisy Osakue, Angelo State University, won her third straight shot put individual title with a NCAA Division II
provisional throw. The sophomore won the event with a mark of 49'-7.25" (15.12-meters) on her final attempt of the
competition. It is the third time she has recorded a provisional mark this season in the shot put.
Jasmine McQuirter, Tarleton State University, finished seventh in the long jump with a leap of 17' 9.5" (5.42m). The
sophomore from Teague had one of four of the TexAnns top-eight finishes at the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier this past
weekend.

The A&M-Commerce track and field teams wrapped up the indoor regular season at the Matador Qualifier at Texas Tech
on Friday night, establishing a Lone Star Conference record and three school records. The top performance came from
freshman Minna Svaerd, who broke the LSC record in the women's pole vault. She cleared the bar at 3.82 meters (12-6)
on her third attempt to set the league record with the nation's eighth-best mark this season. Anitial'a Robins broke the
school record in the women's weight throw, winning the event with a distance of 17.79 meters (58-4 ), which is also a
provisional qualifying mark. Hailey Wanoreck had broken her own record in the event just one throw before Robins at
17.49 meters (57-4 ). In the men's 1,000-meter run, Steeven Martinez set a school record, crossing the line in 2:40.47,
besting the previous record by more than nine seconds. Chase Graham put up a provisional qualifying mark in the men's
weight throw with a distance of 17.55 meters (57-7).

West Texas A&M Track & Field completed their final meet before heading to the 2018 Lone Star Conference Indoor
Track & Field Championships as they sent a handful of student-athletes to the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier last Friday
afternoon at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas.
4. Norma Cunigan impressed in the women's shot put as she finished third with a mark of 14.62m for a provisional throw
for the NCAA Indoor Championships while Steven Cooper also hit a provo mark in the men's 200m Dash with a time of
21.68 to finish sixth overall.
Brandon Rivera finished second and set a personal record in the 800m as the senior moved up to 18th in the nation with
a time of 1:51.64 while teammate Jacob Suchors hit a provisional mark in the same event with a time of 1:53.64 to finish
fourth overall.
The #18 Buffs and #2 Lady Buffs now turn their attention to the 2018 LSC Indoor Track & Field Championships on
Saturday and Sunday at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock.
