ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN’S TRACK
Luis Romero, Texas A&M University - Commerce, JR, El Paso, Texas, Montwood HS
Romero made his first foray of the season into the 800 meter run at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational, ensconcing
himself immediately onto the national scene with a third place finish on the strength of a 1:52.30 (adjusted
to 1:51.67 for altitude), which is currently the 14th fastest time in Division II, and the second fastest time in
the conference. Romero’s time broke the previous A&M-Commerce season high by over seven seconds, and
earned him a provisional qualifying mark.
MEN’S FIELD
Masoud Moghaddam, Texas A&M University - Commerce, SR, Mashhad, Iran, Shahid Beheshti
For the third consecutive meet, Moghaddam broke the LSC record in the weight throw at the Don Kirby Elite
Invitational, smashing his previous high (63-1.87, 19.25m) with a lob of 66-11.25 (20.40m). Not only that, his
toss won the event outright against a field full of some of the top NCAA Division I programs in the country,
including No. 24 BYU. Moghaddam’s newest provisional qualifying mark is currently the best in the Lone Star
Conference, and sixth best in the country.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Ewa Zaborowska, Harding University, SR, Wejherowo, Poland, King’s Jan III Sobieski Secondary School
Zaborowska won the 3,000 meters at Samford Multi and Invitational in 9:23.01, the fastest time on record in
NCAA II. The automatic qualifying effort tops her previous conference record (9:46.39).
WOMEN’S FIELD
Holly Cunigan, West Texas A&M University, SO, Wills Point, Texas, Wills Point HS
Cunigan continues to roll in her standout sophomore season as she crushed her own school and LSC record
in the women’s shot put competition at the ASU NCAA Qualifier on Saturday in Alamosa, Colo. Her 46-10.25
(14.28m) throw would win the her the title at the meet as well. She leads the LSC in the event by over 3 full feet
and ranks 13th nationally. Cunigan would also place third in the weight throw with a new PR of 50-4 (15.34m),
a mark that also leads the LSC.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Baptiste Moreu, West Texas A&M University, had an amazing weekend in Allendale, Mich. as he broke two
school records and one LSC record during both days of the GVSU Big Meet. On Friday, he kicked it off by setting
a provisional time and breaking a school record in the 3000m event with an 8:20.16, ranking him first in the
LSC and 25th in the nation. He followed up on Saturday by breaking an LSC and school record in the DMR with
a provisional time of 9:55.03. That time also leads the conference and ranks 10th nationally.
Trey Adkison, Harding University, won the pole vault at the Samford Multi and Invitational by clearing 15-
5.00 (4.70m). It was Harding’s highest clearance in the school’s NCAA era.
Benoit Nadin, West Texas A&M University, had another big weekend for WT in the field at the Don Kirby
Open & Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The Cergy, France, native broke his own school record in the
triple jump with a new provisional 48-10 (14.88m) mark. That now ranks second in the LSC and 15th in the
country.
Sharon Kwarula, West Texas A&M University, recorded a huge provisional time in the women’s 60mH last
weekend at the Don Kirby Open & Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. After placing fourth in the prelims
with an PR of 8.56, she rolled to a second place showing in the finals with a new school and LSC record of 8.48.
That increases her provisional and now ranks her first in the conference and second in the nation. She would
