LSC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Lone Star Conference will hold its cross country championships Monday, October 26 at the Tejas Golf
Course in Stephenville, Texas. The West Texas A&M men and Midwestern State women will look defend their
2014 titles.
The championships will consist of a six-kilometer race for the women starting at 9:30 a.m. and an eight-
kilometer race for the men starting at 10:30 a.m.

LSC CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS OF THE WEEK
MALE
Trevor Merhege, Eastern New Mexico University, SR, Española, N.M., Santa Fe Indian School
Merhege pace the men’s cross country team at the New Mexico Junior College Invitational with a seventh-place
finish. He crossed the finish line in the 8k run with a time of 25:36.4, and was the only runner in the top-ten
that was not from South Plains College.
FEMALE
Aly Coughlin, Tarleton State University, SR, Rockwall, Texas, Rockwall Heath HS
The TexAnns won the Angelo State Blue and Gold Classic with 28 points and Aly Coughlin led the way again by
winning her second meet of the season. Coughlin ran the 6K course in 22:00.75 giving the two-time Lone Star
Conference Runner of the Week two first-place finishes and a second place finish in four meets.
OTHER TOP RUNNERS
Devitt Smetana, Angelo State University, extended his top 10 finish streak to four meets. The freshman ran
sixth after a time of 26:51.19 to lead ASU to a second place finish. He has been ASU’s top runner at every meet
this season.
Thorne Pettigrew, Tarleton State University, finished in first place at the Angelo State Blue & Gold Classic in
a time of 26:38.00 to give him the individual title for the first time in his career. Pettigrew and the Texans also
won the meet with a perfect score -- the first time that’s occurred in Tarleton history.
Reid Splawn, West Texas A&M University, was the top finisher for the Buffs at the Tiger Open in 89th place.
He covered the 8,000 meter course in 26:40.9.
Candida Chairez, Angelo State University, crossed the line in 23:27.7 for a second place finish at the ASU Blue
& Golf Classic. The senior recorded her third top five finish of the season. It is also her second runner-up placing
at a meet this season. The Rambelles were second as a team.
Bridget Reilly, Midwestern State University, led Midwestern State to its second team meet win of the season
pacing a season-best 6K time of 22:39.00 in the Incarnate Word Invitational ran at the Live Oak (Texas) City Park.
The time was the 25th fastest in MSU history as the true freshman from Royalla, Australia placed third within
the non-Division I field and 11th overall at the meet.
Amber Saiz, Eastern New Mexico University, registered a second-place performance for the women’s cross
country team at the New Mexico Junior College Invitational. She crossed the finish line with a time of 19:19.1
and paced the Hounds to a first-place finish.
Sierra Spinler, West Texas A&M University, was the top finisher for the Lady Buffs this past weekend at the
New Mexico Junior College Open. Spinler placed 14th overall finishing the 5,000 meter course in 20:25.59. It
marks the second straight race that she was the top finisher for WT.

Amber Saiz, Klaudia Szych, and Coley Norcross all posted top-ten finishes to lead the Eastern New Mexico
University women’s cross country team to a first-place finish in the team standings of the New Mexico Junior
College Cross Country Invitational. Trevor Merhege paced the men’s team to a fourth-place finish and he was
the only runner not from South Plains College to earn a top-ten finish in the 8k run. The women’s team finished
with a score of 42 points, well ahead of runner-up NMJC (85 points). All six members of the ENMU women’s
team finished in the top 22 of the 5k run. The men’s team compiled 105 points to place fourth and was 14 points
ahead of fifth-place Texas Permian Basin. South Plains won the meet with 15 points, while Lubbock Christian
was second with 82 points. The Eastern New Mexico University cross country teams will return to action on
Monday, October 26, for the Lone Star Conference Championships. The event will take place in Stephenville,
Texas, and be hosted by Tarleton State University.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State claimed its second meet win of the season winning the non-Division II portion of the

Incarnate Word Invitational Saturday at Live Oak (Texas) City Park... MSU amassed 40 points to beat Texas
A&M International (56), Our Lady of the Lake (57), Trinity (Texas) (128), Concordia (Texas) (145), Austin College
(Texas) (161), Southwestern (Texas) (167) and Schreiner (Texas) (231)... The Mustangs broke with season best
6K times from freshman Bridget Reilly (22:39.00), junior Leticia Shaban (22:54.00), junior Brandi Hobson
(23:12.00), freshman Sara Smith (23:31.00), senior Maira Salinas (23:43.00), senior Brittany Adams (23:44.00),
freshman Michelle Rieves (23:54.00), junior Tia Streeter (24:24.00) and junior Jasmine Stokes (25:24.00)...
Midwestern also claimed fourth using a split squad at the Midwestern State Invitational led by Stokes, who
paced a 26:08.00...
Tarleton State
Both the Tarleton men and women cross country teams dominated the Angelo State Blue & Gold Classic today
by each winning the meet and the men’s team achieving a rare perfect score. The men had five runners finish in
the top five in the 8K course to claim the 15 points – the lowest possible score – with Thorne Pettigrew winning
his first meet of the season. It is the first time in Tarleton history to accomplish a perfect score. The women
won with 28 points and had runners finish in three of the top four spots with Aly Coughlin winning her second
meet of the season. This is the second straight season that the men won the Angelo State Blue and Gold Classic.
Tarleton cross country will look to carry the momentum over into the Lone Star Conference Championships
when they host the meet on Oct. 26.

The Buffs finished 16th at the Fort Hays State Open this past weekend. Reid Splawn was the top finisher for
WT in 89th place (27:02.3). The Lady Buffs finished sixth at the New Mexico Junior College Open. Sierra Spinler
finished in 14th (20:25.59) to lead WT.
