LSC INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field athletes have recorded two NCAA Division II Automa c qualifying

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN’S TRACK
Luis Romero, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SR, El Paso, Texas, Montwood HS
Romero has won every race he has entered in the 2016-17 indoor track season. He set a Lone Star Conference
record in the 3,000 meters at the Crimson & Gold Invita onal in December with a me of 8:12.44, the fastest
me in the league this season. The defending na onal champion in the 800 meters, Romero ran the fourth
fastest 800 meters this season with a track size converted me of 1:51.98. He anchored the Distance Medley
Relay team to a 10:01.57 me, which is the fastest in the na on and the only provisional mark set in that event
so far. He was also on the 4x400 meter relay team that won the MSSU Southern Invita onal at 3:19.58. Four
of his five races this season are the fastest mes in the LSC. His converted mile me from the DMR anchor leg
converts to the fastest mile in the na on this season.
MEN’S FIELD
Charles Greaves, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, SR, Bridgetown, Barbados
Greaves exceeded expecta ons in his first meet as a Javelina. The Barbados na ve placed first with provisional
marks in the long and triple jump. Greaves recorded a 24-10.5 (7.58m) mark in the long jump and leaped 50-
4.5 (15.35m) in the triple jump to set a new school record. Both marks top the LSC this year and rank third
and fourth respec vely in NCAA Division II. Although he was the talk of the meet in the field, he also ran a
provisional me of 6.86 in the 60-meter dash for third place.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Deana Richardson, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, SO, San Antonio, Texas, William J. Brennan HS
Richardson crossed the tape first in the 60-meter dash with a me of 7.52 seconds at the Aggie Team Invita onal.
She shaved off 0.04 seconds of her me that she ran in the preliminaries. The provisional mark ranks first in the
LSC and third in NCAA Division II.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Rellie Kapu n, West Texas A&M University, JR, East New Britain, Papua New Guinea, Kabagap Academy
Kapu n put together one of the most complete weekends in school history at the Cherry & Silver Invita onal
in Albuquerque, New Mexico this past Friday and Saturday as the East New Britain, Papua New Guinea na ve
now sits atop the na onal rankings in the triple jump and top 10 in both the high jump and long jump. She got
off to a hot start on Friday evening breaking the school record in the long jump with a leap of 19-1.5 (5.83m)
before becoming just the second Lady Buff to clear 5-7 (1.70m) in the high jump at an indoor compe on. She
maintained that momentum in the triple jump where she jumped 41-5.25 (12.63m) on her second a empt to
finish third in the compe on and punch her cket to the na onal championships.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Jacques Hall, Eastern New Mexico University, registered a strong all-around performance for the Greyhound
men’s team, placing 17th in the 200-meter dash with a me of 22.18 and 20th in the long jump with a distance
of 19-5.5.
Alex Ntagawa, Lubbock Chris an University, helped the Chaps kick off their indoor track season. Ntagawa
first competed within the second heat of the One Mile Run. He finished the race with a me of 4:34.63 to place
sixth place within his heat and 18th overall in the event. The junior had a limited me to rest a er his mile race
as he also competed in the second heat of the 3,000-meter race. He finished third in his heat and 12th overall.
Ntagawa finished the event with a me of 8:59.02.
Steven Cooper, West Texas A&M University, opened his 2017 season with a third place finish in the
400-meters at the Cherry & Silver Invita onal running an al tude adjusted me of 48.23. His me is good
enough for sixth in school history and now ranks him eighth in the na on.
Javier Lopez, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, a er claiming the silver medal in the 60-meter hurdles at the
2016 NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships, picked up where he started at the Aggie Team Invita onal
by running a provisional 8.06s me for a first place finish in the same event.
Kenneth Lloyd, Eastern New Mexico University, led the ENMU men’s field team at the New Mexico Cherry
and Silver Invita onal with a high jump of 6-8.75, good for a second place finish.
Florian Obst, Texas A&M University-Commerce, achieved two provisional qualifying marks that lead the
conference in the first ac on of the season. In December at the Boo Rogers Combined Events, he earned 5,049
points in the heptathlon, where he had the longest shot put in the heptathlon at 46-1.25 (14.05m) and the
highest pole vault at 15-3 (4.65m). On January 21 at the Missouri Southern Open, he achieved a provisional
mark in the pole vault with a vault of 15-5 (4.70m), which is the highest in the conference this season.
Abraham Seaneke, West Texas A&M University, made the most of his debut for the Buffs at the Cherry &
Silver Invita onal where he finished second in the triple jump and now ranks in the top 10 na onally in the

event. His leap of 49-6.25 (15.09m) on his sixth and final a empt is the second best in school history as he
became just the second athlete in school history to eclipse 15 meters indoors.
Melina Gryschka, Eastern New Mexico University, posted a fourth-place finish at the New Mexico Cherry and
Silver Invita onal in the 3000 meter run with a me of 9:55.13.
Amira Cunningham, Lubbock Chris an University, competed in two different events for the Lady Chaps. She
kicked things off with the One Mile race. Out of four heats, Cunningham was placed in the last. She got out to
a great start and ul mately finished first in her heat and 18th overall with a me of 5:29.43. She then lined up
for the 3,000-meter race in the third heat out of three. Once again, she finished first in her heat with a 10:38.29
pace. Out of 49 compe tors in the event, she placed 16th overall.
Kamryn McKee, Texas A&M University-Commerce, set a school record in the 300m dash at the Crimson &
Gold Invita onal with a me of 40.45 seconds. She then earned the top me in the LSC in the 400m dash at
the Missouri Southern Invita onal, with a converted me of 57.06 seconds, the only LSC runner under a minute
in that event so far this season. McKee ran the first leg of the 4x400m relay at the MSSU Open for the Lions,
where they earned the LSC’s top me at 3:52.50. Addi onally, she has the second-longest long jump in the
conference at 18-2.5 (5.55m), just 5cm short of a provisional mark.
Victoria Rausch, West Texas A&M University, had a career weekend where she ran personals bests in both
the semifinals and finals of the 60-meter hurdles at the Cherry & Silver Invita onal. She finished fourth in the
final running an al tude-adjusted me of 8.59 which now ranks her third in all of Division II. That is also the
fi h-fastest me in school history. Earlier in the day, she had run 8.66 in the semis to finish fi h and punch her
cket in the finals.
Danee Bustos, Eastern New Mexico University, ed for eight in the women’s high jump with a leap of 5-1.
Alexandra VanSickle, Texas A&M University-Commerce, achieved a provisional qualifying mark in the shot
put with a toss of 44-9.5 (13.65m) at the Missouri Southern Open, the third longest shot put in the LSC this
season. She also ranks in the top 10 in the conference in the weight throw at 45-3 (13.79m).”
Racheal Somoye, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, highlighted the throwers with a new school record in the
weight throw at the Aggie Team Invita onal Her 58-1.75 (17.72m) toss sha ered the previous record of 51-1
set by Tasha Savage in 2013.

The A&M-Commerce Lions entered the 2016-17 indoor track & field season with the men’s team ranked No.
14 in the na on. The Lions have competed twice - once at Pi sburg State in December, then at the Missouri
Southern Open in January. The Lions have seen Luis Romero set an LSC record in the 3,000 meters and Kellon
Alexis set a Grenadian na onal record in the weight throw. The Lion men also have the fastest distance medley
relay me in the na on.
The Lion men have set nine provisional marks, while the Lion women have set two provisions marks in the
opening two events of the season.
A&M-Commerce competes this weekend at the Pi sburg State Invita onal on Saturday, January 28.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
In the first scheduled ac on of the 2017 season, Texas A&M-Kingsville cashed in 16 total provisional marks at
the Aggie Team Invita onal in College Sta on, Texas. The men’s team claimed eight provos and finished third
with 70 points, while the women captured the other half and ed for fi h with 46 points. The Javelinas will
head to Louisiana on Feb. 3 to compete in the Bayou Bengal Invita onal hosted by LSU.
West Texas A&M
The na onally ranked Buffs and Lady Buffs had a great start to the 2017 season at the Cherry & Silver Invita onal
this past weekend. In total, WT picked up one automa c qualifier and 10 provisional marks over the two day
meet.
Rellie Kapu n now sits atop the na onal leader board in the triple jump as the junior finished third in the triple
jump with a mark of 41-5.25 (12.63m). She also provisionally qualified in the high jump and long jump. Victoria
Rausch also had an outstanding weekend for the Lady Buffs as he ran 8.59 in the hurdles, a me that now ranks
third in that na on.
Abraham Seaneke and Steven Cooper both picked up provisional marks in their respec ve events. Seaneke
finished second in the triple jump with the second-best mark in school history, 49-6.25 (15.09m). Cooper ran
the sixth-fastest me in school history in the 400-meters (48.23) and now ranks in the top ten in na on.
WT will return to ac on on February 3-4 at the Grizzly-Buffalo Clash in Alamosa, Colorado.
