Kipchumba took third at the Border Classic finishing the 5k course in 15:17.5.
FEMALE
Aly Coughlin, Tarleton State University, SR, Rockwall, Texas, Rockwall Heath
After redshirting last season, Coughlin made a grand return to the TexAnns by winning the Ken Garland
Invitational hosted by the University of North Texas. It was the senior’s first career win as she set a personal
best time in the 5K with 17:52.99. Coughlin topped 85 runners in her win that included 54 Division I runners in
helping the TexAnns to a fifth-place finish overall and first in the group of Division II schools.
OTHER TOP RUNNERS
Tye Doty, Tarleton State University, returned to the Texans after redshirting last season and came away
with a seventh-place finish overall and first against Division II teams at the Ken Garland Invitational. Doty ran
a 19:41.43 in the 4-mile course. The senior helped Tarleton finish fourth overall and first against Division II
opponents. Doty also placed ahead of 41 Division I runners.
Chloe Smith, West Texas A&M University, was the top runner for the Lady Buffs finishing 13th covering the
4k course in 15:51.3.

Cameron Cross Country placed second at the Midwestern State Mustang Stampede on Sept. 10. Senior Steve
Orwell matched the Aggies overall place at second individually by running a time of 20:03. Cameron scored
48 points overall with the help of freshman Tristen Leyva, who placed eighth with a time at 20:42.3, and
sophomore Leonard Kiplagat who rounded out the top-25 for the Aggies at 22nd place with a time of 21:38.3.

The Tarleton cross country teams competed at the Ken Garland Invitational hosted by the University of North
Texas for their first meet of the season with senior Aly Coughlin winning the women’s individual race and the
men’s team coming in fourth overall followed by the women’s in fifth. It was Coughlin’s first career cross country
win as she set a personal best in the 5K with a time of 17:52.99. Tye Doty headlined the men’s side with a
seventh-place finish overall in the 4-mile run with a time of 19:41.43. Doty was the top finisher among Division
II runners. The meet featured Division I and Division II teams with both the Tarleton men’s and women’s team
winning their respective divisions against Division II opponents. Tarleton’s next meet will be on Sept. 19 at the
Missouri Southern State Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo.

The West Texas A&M men’s and women’s cross country teams opened up their season this past weekend at the
Border Classic in Johnson, Kan. The Buffs were led by Geoffrey Kipchumba’s, who placed third on the 5k course.
He was one of five WT runners to place in the top 11. WT won the team title with a score of 39. The Lady Buffs
were led by a pair of freshmen, Chloe Smith and Sierra Spinler. Smith finished 13th followed closely by Spinler
who was 15th. WT placed third with 87 points.
