LSC OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field athletes have recorded 19 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying
marks (9 men, 10 women).
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN’S TRACK
Chase Rathke, Tarleton State University, SR, Crawford, Texas, Crawford HS
Rathke got Tarleton’s Outdoor season off to a quick start when the senior won the 800m run with a time of
1:53.66. Rathke’s time is the fastest in the Lone Star Conference this season.
MEN’S FIELD
Richard Cervantes, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, SO, Mission, Texas, Sharyland
Cervantes set two provisional qualifying marks as the sophomore finished second in the shot put and discus at
the Islander Open... Cervantes tossed 52-7.25 (16.03m) in the shot put and 169-02 (51.56m) in the discus... the
sophomore won the shot put in the 2016 LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
WOMEN’S TRACK
DeAijha Hicks-Boyce, Tarleton State University, SO, Waco, Texas, La Vega HS
Hicks-Boyce won the 200m in a provisional time of 24.52 at the Joe Gillespie Invitational at Tarleton State
University. Hicks-Boyce has the fastest time in the Lone Star Conference for the 200m this season.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Valerie Vrana, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, SR, Seguin, Texas, Navarro
Vrana placed third with a provisionally qualifying toss of 45-7.0 (13.89m) in the shot put... she placed seventh
in the discus with a mark of (122-01/37.22m)
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Courtney Macon, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, won the 110m hurdles with a mark of 14.85 in the season
opening meet at the Islander Open... Macon is a senior from Dallas, Texas and he also competed on the relay
team that placed third.
William Carlton, Tarleton State University, win in the pole vault was good enough for his first career NCAA
provisional mark as a Texan after clearing 16-0 (4.88m) at the Joe Gillespie Invitational hosted by Tarleton State
University. Carlton’s season-opening jump came up 2.75’’ short of breaking the 11-year-old school record of
16-2.75 by Adam Phillips in 2005.
Teandria Taylor, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, was fourth at 25.32 in the women’s 200m dash... in the
100m dash, Taylor was 10th with a time of 12.56... the 4x100m women’s relay team of Brittany Holcombe,
Taylor, Alvarez and Brigance placed second at 48.10...
Hannah Patterson, Tarleton State University, finished fourth in the discus at the Joe Gillespie Invitational
hosted by Tarleton State with a throw of 134-3 (40.92m).

Tarleton Track and Field made its outdoor debut Thursday afternoon as the host institution for the Joe Gillespie
Invitational, where the Texans and TexAnns combined for 11 event victories and four NCAA provisional marks.
The day started with the field events where Tarleton set two of its marks and got first-place finishes from
Rascellis Williams and William Carlton. Williams won the high jump with a leap of 6-6 while Carlton’s win
in the pole vault was good enough for his first career NCAA provisional mark as a Texan after clearing 16-
0. Carlton’s season-opening jump came up 2.75’ short of breaking the 11-year-old school record of 16-2.75
by Adam Phillips in 2005. On the women’s side, came up just short winning three events with second-place
finishes but did get an NCAA provisional mark from Hannah Patterson in the discus. Patterson, a freshman from
Spearman, secured her first career mark with a throw of 134-3. From there, Tarleton headed over to Memorial
Stadium for the running events for the remaining nine victories and two more national marks. The TexAnn
track and field team got victories from DeAijha Hicks-Boyce (24.52) in the 200m, Jasmine Owens (57.61) in the
400m, Haley Dennard (2:23.80) in the 800m, Aly Coughlin (17:39.59) in the 5000m, Kara Bickham (1:04.18) in
the 400m Hurdles, and both the sprint and mile relay teams. The sprint relay team of Deylinn Garrett, Ariel
Ballard, Hollie Boyd, and Hicks-Boyce finished in 46.00 for their first NCAA mark of the season. In the mile relay,
Ariel Ballard, Hicks-Boyce, Leslie Zupanic, and Owens won the event with a time of 3:50.06. On the men’s side,
the final two event victories came in the distance events when Chase Rathke won the 800m run with a time of

Vrana in the shot put and Aricela Alvarez in the triple jump... The fifth-ranked men won four events as Garcia’s
52-9.50 (16.09m) mark in the shot put was tops, the 4x100m relay team of Ramon Quijano, Todd Nicholas,
Jalen LeCounte and Deon Hope won the event with a time of 41.46, Francisco Solis finished the 1500m run in
4:01.80 and Courtney Macon won the 110m hurdles with a mark of 14.85.
