I will teach alternative forms of energy to a
class of general education 6th graders. There
are 20 students 11 girls, and 9 boys. The
class has a very low attention span, and
tends to work better with a visual or hands
on approach.
With 95% accuracy, my students will explain
what an alternative source of energy is, and
why they are important with the use of
websites, videos, class discussions, and
visual aids by the end of one week.
 Day 1:
› Students will read a blog in groups as an introduction,
then they will communicate through zello to complete a
series of questions from the blog as homework.
 Day 2:
› Students will view a video on YouTube about different
sources of alternative energy, as well as a take home
assignment that will be posted on Twitter.
 Day 3:
› Students will be asked to view two websites on alternative
energy, we discuss them, and take a quiz.
 Day 4:
› Students will be placed into groups of 3 to
complete a WebQuest on alternative energy
 Day 5:
› As a final project students will have the option to
create a poster, or create a custom image in
photoshop, that shows that they have a true
understanding of the topic.

Teaching 6th Graders About Alt Energy Sources With Visual & Hands-On Methods

  • 1.
  • 2. I will teach alternative forms of energy to a class of general education 6th graders. There are 20 students 11 girls, and 9 boys. The class has a very low attention span, and tends to work better with a visual or hands on approach.
  • 3. With 95% accuracy, my students will explain what an alternative source of energy is, and why they are important with the use of websites, videos, class discussions, and visual aids by the end of one week.
  • 4.  Day 1: › Students will read a blog in groups as an introduction, then they will communicate through zello to complete a series of questions from the blog as homework.  Day 2: › Students will view a video on YouTube about different sources of alternative energy, as well as a take home assignment that will be posted on Twitter.  Day 3: › Students will be asked to view two websites on alternative energy, we discuss them, and take a quiz.
  • 5.  Day 4: › Students will be placed into groups of 3 to complete a WebQuest on alternative energy  Day 5: › As a final project students will have the option to create a poster, or create a custom image in photoshop, that shows that they have a true understanding of the topic.
