Unit Plan Abstract
6 December 2015
Abstract
My unit plan will cover the broad topic of alternative energy. I think it is important for
students to learn about this topic because soon alternative energy may be our only option to
power our homes, schools, and businesses. My class is made up of general education 6th graders,
there are twenty students, eleven girls, and nine boys. Most of the students are white Americans,
from a urban and middle class background. The class in general tends to have a very low
attention span, and works well with hands on or visual approaches, such as, computers, videos
etc. I will use many tools I learned in CI350 class to help my students succeed in learning, and
understanding this dense topic. The technology I will use throughout this lesson include: Wiki
and Weebly sites, YouTube, PowerPoint, Zunal.com for WebQuests, Photoshop or Gimp, blogs,
Microsoft Word and different social media sites. My plan is give students everything they need
to know to succeed in this unit in a total of four days using different sources of technology, and
on day five students will be asked to create a final project that demonstrates everything they have
learned about the subject over the course of the week. This unit will teach useful 21st century
skills such as teamwork, collaboration, and responsibilities not only to themselves but to other
classmates.
