2. Target Audience Research
• We decided to aim our target audience at males aged 12 to 30, as this is the audience who mostly
watch and enjoy action films.
• This is the audience profile for Taken 2, this is a good comparison to work from because like
‘Covert’ it is an action film with similar conventions and connotations
• From this table we can understand what are ideal target audience will look like, with the majority
of our audience being male teenagers. However the table does show a large percentage of the
audience being female. This is most likely the partners of the male audiences who might also watch
the film with them.
3. Ideal Audience member
• This is our ideal audiencemember, his name is Derek he is 24 years old, middle class and works for at an IT management
company as an IT support technician.Derek is old enough to be within our target audiencerange and is also part of the
highestage demographic more specifically (15-24). Because of his job at Higson & Wells Ltd in Reading Derek would be
interested in Covert because of the films use of computerhacking and espionage. Derek has the weekends free and enjoys
watching sci-fi and actionfilms in his free time as well as playingOn his X-Box and PC, he enjoys the Call of Duty
Franchises as well as Minecraft. The film genres that Derek enjoys watching are very appealingto a male audience because
of their fast pace and thrilling actionsequences, we know this because of the Pearl and Dean audience profile statistics that
we looked at as well as our audienceresearch that we carriedout before filming. Derek does not have a girlfriendbut does
have many other friends from outside of work who he spends most of his weekends with going into town and sometimes
watching the latest films that have been released. Derek reads the movie magazine ‘Empire’ so has a good knowledge on
what latest films he should go see and what to look out for in the near future. Because of this Derek's friends normallygo of
his advise on what movies to watch an because theyare all in the same age category (15-24) theyadd to the overall
percentage of this demographic when they see films together.
5. • We can draw a lot of our conclusions of target audience from the research
that we carried out.
• We interviewed a group of people within our target audience and when asked
what their favourite genre was they all said ‘Action & Adventure’
• And because this genre is most popular with such a large target audience we
decided it was best to make our film an action and adventure.
• We made sure to include some of the connotations that they said they would
expect to see in an action film such as- a chase, fast music, quick editing
