WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT
CHOSEN GENRE
• When we had chosen our genre which would be crime mystery, we thought our audience
should be aimed at viewers over the age of 12. However, after checking the requirements
for each age limit we realised there was a certain limit that we could show on screen. This
made us realise that having an audience over the age of 12 won’t be the best of ideas
and so we finally decided to rate it 15+. This now allowed us to have more explicit scenes
as well as including more in depth violence and the use of drugs, something older
teenagers and young adults enjoy to watch.
WHY DID WE TARGET THAT SORT OF AUDIENCE?
• When researching different films that belonged in our genre we saw that the majority of
viewers were between the ages of 15-35 and so we decided the age group should reflect
the information found from the research. This was reinforced in popular films such as Now
You See Me and Hannibal. In addition, we ourselves are older teenagers and this would
be something we would go to watch if it was made by a professional film company as well
as the fact that whenever we go to the cinemas to watch a similar film we would usually
see the same sort of age group as the one shown through the research.
ISSUES AND INTERESTS
• When planning our media product we had to think carefully about the issues and interests
of the audience and what they would find interesting to watch. When I had asked quite a
few of my friends they had told me in a film they look for a good storyline, action scenes,
attractive and popular actors as well as blood. If a film has these features in them then
they would be more then likely to come and see the film. This is why we decided to
include these aspects in our film as it was something the audience wanted to see.
CONCLUSION
• After reviewing all the information we had gathered through our friends and through the
research we had found online, we believe that picking a target audience of an age group
between the ages of 15 – 35 was perfect as the majority of the people who fit in this age
group would be willing to come and see it.
• In addition, I believe there will be more male viewers than females as I personally believe
males would be more interested in our media product. I came to this conclusion after
reviewing several different films that were based on our chosen genre and the stats
showed that more males had come to see the film. Nonetheless we do still expect females
to come and also watch our film if it was to be completely made.
