Analysing a magazine advert
1. Olly Murs is a pop artist and
sings very upbeat fast songs.
He came second place in the X-
Factor and this is an advert for
his debut Album. The style of
the advert is very funky and
reflects the style of the artist in a
positive and eye catching way. In the middle of
the advert the
artist has been
edited to show
multiple versions
of himself with
different
expressions, body
postures and hand
gestures. This
could represent
how the artist is
very versatile and
able to perform in
different singing
styles and tones. It
could also
emphasise the
sense of unity he
has with music
and that he feels
strong as a solo
artist.
At the top of the
advert the Artists
name is written in
bold red typeface.
This stands out
against the white
background and is
the largest text on
the advert. At the
bottom of the advert
it announces the
release of his first
album. Underneath
this there is a tagline
informing the reader
that it includes a
number 1 single.
This is a good way
of grabbing the
reader’s attention. A
release date is
written in white so
that it stands out
against the other
lines. A website is
also placed at the
bottom so that the
readers can find out
more information if
they want.
In this advert the rule of three is put
into use. Splitting the page into three
means that the individual items can
be seen clearly and the important
information such as names and
dates are made clearer.
