2. DEFINITION
• A tense that expresses an unbroken action continuing at the
present time, started in the recent past. In English it is formed
by using have been with a present participle.
3. FORMULA
• (+) Subject + has / have + been + verb-ing
Example: They have been working together since senior high school.
She has been working at that company for three years.
• (-) Subject + has / have + not + been + verb-ing
Example: David has not been eating for 5 years
They have not been studying for the test
• (?) Has/have + subject + been + verb-ing?
Example: Have you been eating this egg for an hour?
Has he been playing game for two hours?
4. FUNCTION
• It used to make a sentence that began in the past and continue
until now
• It can be used without an adverb of time. But, the time
information is replaced by "lately", and "recently".
Example: Recently, I have been feeling very tired
She has been watching television too much lately
