1. AND WHY?
WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION
MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT
2. …………………………………………………………………………………………
TIME INC.
▸ I wanted to follow the footsteps of a magazine publishing company that produce
similar style magazines as they have experience in grasping the similar target
audience through different viral campaigns. In this case I have chosen Time Inc
due to its connection with the magazine I have mentioned and referred to my
research multiple times, NME.

IPC MEDIA
▸ After doing some more research on the institutions of my media products distributor, I
discovered that IPC is a subsidiary company of Time Inc that focuses on the
distribution and publication of NME. They will also do the same for Riff magazine due
to the similarities of the two magazines, however they have different content features
such as ‘riffs rare finds’ and the key target demographic itself has certain differences
etc. Moreover this magazine company has been very experienced as it has been
focusing in magazine and online publishing since the 1950’s ensuring that the target
demographic is reached throughout this process.

OTHER MAGAZINES FROM IPC/TIME INC
▸Here are some other
magazines that were
presented on the website of
IPC. As you can see NME is
the only largely recognisable
music magazine and one of
the only ones featured in this
list. This encourages the fact
that the music magazine
section has little variation
ensuring more focus on this
one in particular, moreover
adding Riff to this list, it will
also have lots of attention
from the music side of this
company.

ADVANTAGES//DISADVANTAGES
▸Advantages
▸has more room to focus on the music
magazines
▸NME is a similar style of magazine
▸Same music genre - able to reach out to the
audience with no trouble due to previous
experience with NME
▸Has many other successful magazines on
board
▸Originated in 1950s, it is now 2017 (67
years…)
▸very successful music magazine apart of
the company
Disadvantages
- NME could be seen as too similar
- there is a slight difference in the social group target
market - age range
- only 1 music magazine - other music magazines don't
want to be apart of this company…?
- too many magazines apart of the company already…

SUCCESS
▸ The success of the music magazine (other viral campaigns such as a stage at
reading/leeds, a website, an awards ceremony and other social media
networks) NME has received from the public and reporters, this indicates that
IPC/Time inc is a very good company to work with who ensure reliability of
audience participation in grabbing a copy from their local HMV (now for free!!).
Moreover, Riff will fit in very well alongside NME due to their major similarities,
but still differs due to the actual content itself as Riff mainly focuses on new
bands on the rock scene, where as NME gets big stars on their front cover
promoting themselves even more!
7. ………………………………………………………………………………………….
.
▸ In conclusion, I believe that Time inc is the perfect match for Riff magazine due
to its success with NME and also it has room for more music based magazines
of the similar genre considering that the magazines aren't identical which is why
Riff has a focus on the alternative side of rock with links to psychedelic and
indie rock already devising a different magazine content and features within it.
Adding onto that, IPC is very reliable due to its continuous work since the
1950s publishing and distributing magazines within the UK.
