2. Wolf Alice – My Love Is Cool
This album cover for Wolf Alice – My Love
Is Cool is very minimalistic with colours
and the actual images on the front cover.
The band have done this to catch attention
with the amount of negative space and
curiosity due to the name not being visible
on the front side.
The image of the person in the bottom left
corner is of someone with glitter possibly
being thrown at them. This relates to the
bands 'look' and 'theme' of gold glitter as a
photoshoot they did involved all the band
members being covered in glitter. This
then enforced fans to wear gold glitter on
their faces at the gigs they would play.
Adding onto that I think that this
album cover is quite aesthetic
because of the simplistic outlook it
has. The glitter could represent the
music and it is 'golden' implying it is
good and makes you feel good. Not
only that but glitter 'sparkles' which
could imply that the album will spark
out from the rest of the albums that
may be on show.
3. The back cover has more
writing on and the actual
band name so listeners will
know who is it and the title
of the album. Not only that
but all the song titles are
written vertically down the
centre for a more statement
look as it is more visually
nice to look at rather than
one after the other like a
sentence.
The colour scheme of black
and gold still follows from
the front cover which adds
more aesthetic to the bands
appearance.
The font is quite a 'feminine'
style of writing I think, this is
reflecting the idea that a
band can have a female in it
and this band does so they
opt for the "swirly" writing.
4. Kodaline – Love Like This
Kodaline always follow a similar
scheme with their album covers
and EP covers. They always
seem to be in a scenic place
with people in the shot but you
can't distinguish their actual face
features as they are somewhat
in the distance.
This single album cover is called
Love Like This. The image
actually relates to the title as
there are 2 people in shot on a
beach – most likely they are in
love and/or they are a couple/in
a relationship.
The scenery is quite
romantic on the front cover.
This implies the style of
music the band aim for and
the lyrics could relate and
reflect from personal love
stories or personal
heartbreaks.
5. Father John Misty – I Love You, Honey Bear
Father John Misty's
album cover for 'I Love
You, Honeybear' has a
religious vibe to it which
is implying that he is
religious and some of his
songs do mention
religious comments
reflecting his Christianity.
The illustrations show
the Virgin Mary holding a
baby who you presume
would be Jesus but if
you look closely it is
actually a small baby
Josh Tilman. This is also
a way of implying his
religion.
It could be seen as he is
a brother pf Jesus, and
God is his father as he
comes from a religious
background, therefore he
has used that to
incorporate an album
cover.
6. The back cover has similar
illustrations of animals
dancing and playing
instruments, however the
religion theme still continues
as there are beasts visible
on the album sleeve as if
they were the
representation of the devil.
The song titles go along the
lift hand side in a sentence
style/structure. I find this
harder to read as the writing
is very small in comparison
to the Wolf Alice album,
however FJM probably
preferred that the
illustrations and artists work
wasn’t covered over.
