IPC Media would be a good publisher to distribute the media product because they reach over 20 million users per month through their 60 iconic brands. They have experience with indie/rock music genres and target a similar young audience. Specifically, IPC Media's music magazine NME focuses on the same genre and demographic as the media product. Distributing through their large, established company would allow for cheaper advertising options to successfully reach the target audience. Bauer could also be considered as they publish magazines like Kerrang and Q that target rock music fans, though they may not be as closely aligned as IPC Media.
1. Q3-What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
2. One publisher that I think might distribute my media product is IPC MEDIA. They produce over 60 iconic media brands in which they reach over 20 million users every month. This institution has experience of dealing with music of my similar genre; Indie/Rock music. They would be perfect as they will know how to deal with many typical conventions and the target audience that VINYL is going for. IPC Media is a convergence company as they deal with more than one media; They specialise in magazine distribution however a variety of aspects. For example, the magazine ‘LOOK’ which specialises in fashion, and ‘TV TIMES’. These all target a similar audience which I am targeting therefore this would be an useful company. IPC media also brand in the music magazine; ‘NME’. This happens to fit into my audience profile as my magazine specialises in a very similar genre to what ‘NME’ specialise in. This would allow VINYL to be distributed to my target audience successfully. As NME target a young audience, this is an advantage because VINYL is also targeting young teenagers/adults. Also as IPC media distributes a large well known company; NME, there would be more advertisement options which are cheaper and easier with a larger company.
