1. Final Reflection
Reflecting images
What do the clothing codes tell you?
The clothes on the main image of my magazine tell me that the model is a
student as she is wearing casual clothes but I did not include any props to
make the audience aware that she is a student such as an ID card or folders
etc. For this reason, my main image does not match the genre of the magazine.
What are their facial expressions? Why?
The facial expression on my model on my front cover and contents page are of
the model smiling which indicates that she is happy and so will tell the
audience that she is enjoying college which will also make them want to read
the magazine.
What is their posture? Why?
The posture of my model is of her standing up in a casual position. This would
make the model seem relatable to the target audience as the target audience
are students and so they would think that this magazine is for them.
Subsequently, making them want to buy the magazine.
What roles and stereotypes are being represented… or challenged? Does the
image conform with or challenge conventional ideas of male/female….
young/old…etc.?
The image conveys a young female student which matches the genre of the
magazine and the model is also a typical stereotype of the average student at
college. She is wearing casual clothes which would make her look like a
student.
Is the representation of race significant in your image?
No because my magazine is aimed at all students of all races.
Who is being addressed (Audience)?
Who is the magazine aimed at? How do we know?
2. The magazine is aimed at students as the main image is of a young student and
the cover lines are linked with college. The images on the contents page
include one of a rugby field which indicates the magazine is for sport as well as
college which will also attract the male audience. The cover lines on the
contents page are also linked with college.
What have you done to attract the target audience?
On the front cover, I included a free poster which would intrigue the audience
and would make them want to buy the magazine. I also made the title big so it
attracts the audience’s attention. I finally included cover lines that link to
college and are bright in colour.
How have you made use of both text and image to address that intended
audience?
I made sure that the main cover line matched the main image and on the
contents page, I used page numbers that matched the contents pictures. I also
made sure that the pictures linked with college.
