1. Evaluation
1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
I believe that I have developed the previous ideas and conventions that were in a real sixth form
magazine that I analysed. I have used some conventions that that magazine has used but I have also
used some of my new ideas in producing the sixth form magazine. I used some ideas such as just
having one main image on the front cover of the sixth form magazine; also having a left third was
included in both mine and the real piece of media, these are both conventions that appear in not
just this type of magazine but any type magazine can do this. But I also incorporated some of my
own ideas such as a simple colour scheme include few colours unlike the sixth form magazine that I
analysed because that had a lot of colours in the colour scheme which I did not find very attractive
and so I slightly changed this factor.
2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My media product will represent both girls and boys at Nicholas Chamberlaine School because these
are the target audience for the magazine, it is only made for the sixth form students and so it does
not need to represent or appeal to anyone else. In order to make this appealing and represent this
social group I have used images of the other sixth form students and images of the school that they
will know. I have not had to make it appealing to other social groups as it is only aimed at a select
audience, no other groups will be interested in sixth form affairs.
3) What type of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The only institution that might distribute this would be the school Ni cholas Chamberlaine as it is only
made for the students of this school and so there would be no other reason for someone else to be
distributing this type of media. This would only be sold in the sixth form centre as well because it
does not apply to the rest of the school and so only the sixth form would distribute this product.
4) Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my media product would be the sixth form students of Nicholas Chamberlaine
School, this is because they will be the only people that are interested in the magazine and so they
will be the only ones that this type of media product will be aimed at.
5) How did you attract/address the target audience?
I have appealed to this target audience through the use of my chosen images and the fact that I have
wrote about topics that are included in the contents page, these topics are only relevant to the sixth
form students that my magazine is aimed at. The images are of other sixth form students and the
places in the school that they will know.
6) What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
During the construction of my magazine I have managed to further my knowledge on the
technologies that I have used, I have managed to improve my skills on Photoshop. This was very
difficult as I have had to learn the basics of Photoshop. I have managed to create a whole magazine
2. cover and contents page; I have had to learn how to edit images, text and also had to make it all
appealing to my target audience. I have also managed to learn even more about the blog that I need
to upload all of my work to, before starting this project I had little knowledge on how to use the blog
but now I am able to use the blog for everything that I need to do.
