2. Film & Media
• I hope to achieve a merit/distinction grade for my first year of level 3, I want to aim for the highest grade possible in my final year of media
level 3. This grade level will help build up my chances of having a very successful career in the near future wether it is 5 years from now or 10
years. It will also increase my chances of getting accepted into high educational and skill expanding university courses connected to the film
and media industry.
• My plan is to work in the film and media industry, preferably in video editing department, I have always enjoyed creating videos so this was
always going to be my dream job. To get a job in this industry I first need to complete my 2 years on my Level 3 media course at York college.
After I complete these 2 years at college I will then progress onto do a film degree at University. Completing the level 3 media course at
college will give me a much higher chance on being able to get accepted into a good university. After I finish my degree I am then hoping to
move to Manchester and get a job within media city working as a video editor or a producer of some sort.
• Next year after I will be in my final year on my media course at York college I feel I am going to work self employed during the summer to do
video editing for you tubers and influencers, I already work with quite a few currently but by that time I will have enough clients to start
creating a business. I am wanting to create my own business and employ people to edit the videos that people will pay me to edit, if I
employ other people to edit these videos I will take a percentage of what they get paid. I currently only have 3 clients to edit for but I want it
to grow to a point where I can afford to buy an office for myself and my workers.
• After I have completed my media course and began to set up my small editing business I will then be applying to go to university to do a
degree in film and media. When I have completed my degree I then plan to try and get a job placement within a tv studio as either a video
editor or cameraman. I am going to university because if my self employed business does not work out at least I will have a degree
qualification to give me a better chance at getting a job.
• I will need some work experience beforehand to give me a better chance of getting a job in this industry, the work experience I could get is
to work on small projects such as short films and promotional videos for different businesses. I can do this by contacting and reaching out to
smaller businesses to see if they are in need of a videographer and/or editor, If I I do small jobs like these then it allows me to put it onto my
CV and to build up a strong portfolio to give me high chances of getting job’s within the industry.
