2. ASA Codes
Number Name Brief Description

no images that general audience members would find
disturbing or graphic.
2 Recognition of
marketing
communications
Make sure the advert actually looks, like an advert, make
it obvious that you’re advertising a product and clearly
state what the product is. Make sure you have a
memorable slogan/ advert.
3 Misleading Adverts Have your adverts tell the truth and be honest about
what your product does. Do not over advertise it by lying.
4 Harm and Offence The advert cannot be offensive to any sub group or race,
make sure to keep them friendly and clean for all people
5 Children Make sure that every advert you make is friendly to
children and that they can appeal to them, but don't force
them to buy your products.
6 Privacy If a celebrity is included in your advert ask their
permisson first, which is written word. To do otherwise is
to break the law.
13 Food, food supplements
and associated health or
nutritional claims
Do not promote bad dietary habits, you also cannot tell
the consumers that your product has health benefits
without backing that up
4. Mind Map
• Strengths of using this method
• All of the ideas I have are clearly mapped into one place so I can easily find
them later on if I want to make any changes.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• If I want to find something it could easily get lost and mixed up with
everything else that's on the paper. Some of the plans may not work out.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I found this method to be one of the easiest to organise all my ideas onto under
the correct title. I made sure to use bullet points to make sure that nothing
would get lost. I ended up really enjoying using this method
6. Mood Board
• Strengths of using this method
• There is a visual representation of what you took inspiration from for your
adverts even if it's just a small part some inspiration was still taken, no matter
who obscure it can be.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Some of the pictures may not make much sense, since it's not extremely
obvious how you're taking ideas from something straight away, and might only
make sense when the ideas are put into fruition
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I like it for the most part, however if you only took ideas from a few things it can
be difficult to make a complete mood board. Apart from that I like the method.
8. Style Sheet
• Strengths of using this method
• They can give you a head start on what the style of the text will be on the
final poster. It also gives you a good visual on what the slogan will look like,
which will help decide if it will be memorable or not.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• The layout or style that has been chosen may not be that good, or you just may not like
any of them, or they just won't work with what had already been envisioned, resulting in
you having to make your own kind of style or layout, that actually works. Also some
colours you may have chosen, didn't blend together as well as hoped.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• Yes. I like seeing what potential styles and colours are available and settling on a
combination that looks like it will work in the final product. Also it was good to
put a style on the slogan that looks memorable.
10. Layout Plan
• Strengths of using this method
Gives a somewhat good visual representation of what the advert will end up
looking like, so when the time comes to actually make it there is something to
base it off.
• Weaknesses of using this method
The actual layout might be difficult to understand and may require some
explanation as to what is going on. So it will have to be obviously watered
down so it's easy to understand. Also you may have a different idea for the
layout while making it, or after making it, requiring you to start again.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I liked using this method because it let me physically plan out how my advert
will look, and I only had to change it once or twice because I wasn't happy with
how it turned out. After that it was easier to make the poster because I had
something to base it off
11. Brainstorm
• The radio advert will be set during a BBQ gathering filled with a bunch of friends
• We want the advert to cover the 5 senses
• We want to have a memorable slogan for the advert that will have a somewhat special
impact on people
• Since the advert will have an older feel to it the slogan will have to match that time
frame
12. Brainstorm
• Strengths of using this method
• We get to hear multiple opinions and ideas and get to choose the best
ones that will end up in the final product. We get to work with more than
one person.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Sometimes neither person will have any ideas which could result in the
whole project being slowed down for those people, so they might need to
work in a bigger group. Or some ideas could clash with one another and
neither person can settle on a final product
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I normally prefer working by myself so I can explore all the ideas that I
personally want to, and also so I can work at my own pace. So I didn't really
enjoy using this method.
13. Informal Pitch
• Strengths of using this method
We get to explain our idea in full to another person and get to hear all of their
constructive feedback on it, which will end up helping a lot. It could also serve
as a confidence boost to some.
• Weaknesses of using this method
If the idea isn't fully formed yet then it will not look good on how serious you
actually are about the project. Or also someone could just be nervous and
scared to pitch their idea to someone else, because they might think it's very
good.
Did you like using this method? Why?
• I liked it because I get to hear constructive critism on the product and how I
could make it better, so I has a postive experience with this method.
15. Group Idea Generation
• Strengths of using this method
• We get to see all of our ideas in one place which makes it very easy to
organise and see what we will actually end up using.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Sometimes there will be too many ideas to go through and the actual good ones
that you want to use will end up getting lost
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• Yes because we found it very easy to narrow down which ideas we actually
wanted to use, which made using this method easy to do.
16. Formal Pitch
• Strengths of using this method
• They get to see how the criticism was taken and we ended up doing with it
• Weaknesses of using this method
• It still may not be good enough, resulting in a lot of things having to be re
worked.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I enjoyed it more than I did with the informal pitch because I felt like we were
actually getting somewhere with our project
17. Initial Reaction
• My initial reaction to having to make a small game was, mostly nervous.
I have never done anything like this before and had no idea what I was
going to do. So I had to sit for a while and think about what I wanted to
do. I ended up coming up with wanting to go down the more retro side
of games, because a lot of teens today are still attracted to that style of
game. It did end up being more fun than I thought it would.
18. Initial Reaction
• Strengths of using this method
• We get to see our first thoughts and feelings towards having to do as
challenging as making a game. And at some point we can look back on it
and see how much we have grown in reacting to something like that.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• A lot of people don't like writing down what they are feeling, or maybe
they didn't even have a reaction to when they found out, making it hard to
write anything down at all.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I liked it because I enjoy expressing how I feel about new challenges like that
one., and would do it again for future projects.
19. Sketches
• Strengths of using this method
• It's a way of pre planning what our final game may end up looking like
which gives us a chance to improve it before we even start work on it. It is
also a good first step for people who have never done anything like this
before
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Since a lot of people aren't very good at drawing seeing what they have to
recreate and animate might shake their confidence a bit. Or someone might not
even be able to think of a sketch until after they have made their game, and
they have nothing to base their product on
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I liked it as it gave me an idea of what I want to do when it comes to
actually making the final game
20. Formal Proposal
• Strengths of using this method
• By this point all of the ideas are finalised and should be perfect to propose to
someone else. Which takes you ahead of the project and you can finish work on
it right away.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Some people won’t have all their ideas yet or they do and they don’t look like
they’ll it in as well with some better ones so they’ll have to take them out and
completely take out and rework their ideas
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I liked using this method because I got to see all of my final ideas in one place
and I didn’t dislike any of them and didn’t feel like they needed to be changed
