1. Evaluation Question 3 :
What have you learned from
your audience feedback?
By Paige Hadaway
Year 13 Media Studies
2. After analyzing my audience feedback ,which I created on survey monkey ,
I was able to gain an understanding of how effective my range of media
texts were within my year 13 production. As my survey was anonymous
and I wans’t aware of who gave each answer when participating in my
survey it makes my results more accurate and honest as there is no bias
when answering the questions.
From all the stats in which were collected , I have come to the conclusion
that my main task and ancillary products have been mostly successful in
meeting the typical codes and conventions of a trailer and of the social
realism genre.
It always gave the rewarding and desired effect to my target audience. I
wished for my trailer to not only be entertaining and give the audience a
feeling of escapism but I also wanted to make sure it was informative for
those who do not know as much about the working class and gang culture.
This may have given people a better understanding of todays youth and the
extremes they may go have to go through to make money or to live a
normal life.
3. When starting my audience feedback survey I wanted the the opening question
to ask what their age is. This is helpful as is shows me everyone who watched
my production was of the age I predicted within my research and planning ,
appealing strongly to teens and young adults. 100% of people who answered
my survey were of this age.
4. • I also wanted to find out my audiences gender as this shows me if
my predictions were correct that my production appeals to mostly
men. As you can tell here from my statistics over 50% of people who
watched it and and answered my survey were actually female. This
shows my film does not only appeal to males but both genders.
5. • I wanted to know the area in which my audience were coming from as this
helps to show weather they think my film is an accurate and effective
representation of the gang culture which may occur in this area. As my
production was set in a town in the South East of London (Dartford) I
wanted know if they were from the same region or near too. My stats show
that some people who answered my survey were actually from Dartford
town themselves, others were from towns very close and one even from
London.
6. • After finding out the area of my audience who gave feedback it was important for me to
gain an understanding to see if the my representation was seen as accurate for youths
within this area. 12.5% of answers shows that some people were not sure of this perhaps
as they may not know what to expect or may not be interested in gang culture. However my
stats over 70 % of people to watched my trailer agreed that is was an accurate
representation and said that it also gave a insight into real life gang culture that may occur.
This feedback allows to me conclude that my production has given the effect that was
desired and was successful in providing some individuals who may not participate within
gang culture insight into that lifestyle.
7. • From this chart it shows that over 85.5% of people who watched my
film trailer said that they were entertained when. This helps me to
gain an understanding that people are entertained by my film trailer
meaning that if it was released as a full length movie they would be
more likely to watch it as the trailer entertained and intrigued them.
8. • 100% of people who watched my production and filled out my survey
said that the trailer would make them want to watch the whole movie.
This is important as it shows my film trailer was successful in promoting
my film! I can conclude that what I chose to include within my trailer was
effective in attracting people. After analyzing this I feel the fact that I left it
on cliffhanger and added a sense of enigma to the trailer helps to create
an active audience ,this gets my audience to engage in asking
themselves questions about the characters or situations , which in turn
makes them want to watch the full movie to answer their budding
questions.
9. • Quality was something that I focused on strongly when creating my
production ,I wanted to ensure it was of the highest quality and
standard that I could achieve, with a professional outcome. This helps
to make it feel a lot more realistic when watching the trailer. 87% of
people who answered my questionnaire agreed that my trailer was of
a high quality, and just over 10% of people agreed that it was neither
high or low quality. From such a big differences in the amount of
answers it shows me that the majority vote was successful and of a
high quality.
10. • I felt it was essential in my feedback top see if my audience felt
that the cliffhanger was effective, as a cliffhanger in a social
realism trailer is important. It usually entices the audience to go
and watch the full movie if left on a suspenseful note . Over half of
my audience felt that the cliffhanger at the end was effective! And
only 37% thought it was “ a little effective”. This indicates to me
that my filming and editing skills combined worked strongly in
creating an effective film trailer and gave the desired effect of the
trailer.
11. • Music is a huge effecting factor within any social realism film , it helps to not
only set the scene but also the emotion and mood of a film or scene. I felt it
was essential for me to find out if the music used along side the trailer was
effective. From my feedback survey is shows that the majority of people
agreed that the music used was fitting with the content of the film. This
gives me a good indication that I chose the correct music and done enough
research to get this part of the trailer correct.
12. • I made two ancillary tasks in which were both products which helped to advertise my film. I
felt it was important to ask my audience filling out the questionnaire weather they thought
my magazine and film poster were effective with regards to advertising my film. Over half of
the people in which filled out the survey said that it was very effective when advertising my
products. This gives me a good idea that my choice of publishing style works well and look
both professional and support my production. It informs me that my choices of imagery ,
text , font and colours were all successful as the no one within my survey audience said it
was not effective.
