2. Q1. How old are you?
• The majority of the people who answered our
questionnaire were aged between18-21.This helps
our results to be accurate because our target
audience is young adults, we want younger people to
be able to enjoy our film and so by getting the
majority of results from this age group, it will increase
the accuracy. The second largest age group that
answered our questionnaire was aged 15-17 year olds,
we also found this to be accurate because our film is
going to have a 15 certificate and therefore people of
this age answering our questionnaire will make it
accurate. Finally, 8.3% of our responses came from
people aged 32+ although this is possibly over our
target audience age, this also helps to get a
representation and opinion from the older target
audience and therefore making it appeal to them as
well and the younger audience, therefore they could
be our secondary target audience.
3. Q2. What gender are you?
• 58.3% of people who responded to our
questionnaire were female and 41.7%
were male. Although there were more
females than males who responded, the
responses are fairly even and therefore
we would suggest that both males and
females would watch our film. They could
also go and watch it together possibly as a
date and to provide comfort for each
other as it is a horror film. This even
spread of males to female also allows us
to create a bigger audience and hopefully
create more revenue.
4. Q3. Are you a fan of horror films?
• Although the majority of people
(58.3%) responded to this question
with them not being a fan of horror
films, 41.7% of people said they
were. This is in our favour as those
41% of people would potentially go
to see our film, and probably bring
their friends with them who said
they didn’t like horror films, meaning
that our target for our film is over
half of the population, including
those who like horror films, and their
friends.
5. Q4. How often do you watch horror
films? • The most popular frequency for watching horror
films was monthly, with 58.3% of the votes.
Second most popular was never, with 33.3% of
the votes. This could help us decide on our
specific release date, as we would have to try
and leave a month’s gap between other big
horror films being released, as so we don’t have
much rivalry for viewings of our film. Again,
those who said they never go to see horror
films, may be persuaded to go and see ours by
their friends who watch them either weekly or
monthly. Those who watch horror films weekly,
especially in the cinema, are potentially a more
likely viewer for our film, as there is not usually
more than 4 horrors released per month –
allowing them to see a different film every
week, including ours.
6. Q5. If you do like horror, what is your
favorite horror film?
• Final Destination
• Prometheus
• Devil Inside
• WorldWar Z
• The Purge
• Insidious
• Alien
• The Shining
• SAW
• The Others
• Triangle
• We received a mixture of different
favourite horror films, some of the sub-
genres are zombies, paranormal,
aliens, gore etc.We received a few from
the paranormal films which links into
the film that we have planned. The
variety of films chosen suggests that
our audience knows the typical
conventions of horror which means we
need to keep up the typical horror
conventions. Many of the films stated
here include the element of survival
which is a sub-genre of horror.
7. Q6. Where do you normally watch
horror films?
• The majority of people prefer to watch a
horror film at their friend’s house so that
means that the person that wants to watch
it would then persuade their other friends
to watch it with them. It would also be a
social thing for their friends because of it
being the horror genre, they would want
other people to be there for a comfort
feeling. People also answered that they
would watch it at the cinema so we would
release it to the cinemas and then from
there it would go to people’s homes for
them to watch it on their own or with their
friends.
8. Q7. What makes you want to pay to
watch a film in the cinema?
• The answers that we got from
conducting our survey clearly shows
that the synopsis plays a big part in
the willingness for someone to go
and pay to watch a film. Secondly
we can see that it is also dependent
on whether friends want to go see
the films.
9. Q8. Reading the following synopsis how
likely would you pay to watch the film? (5
being very likely and 0 being not at all)
• This shows that our synopsis was a
hit because of the fact that nobody
didn’t like our synopsis and the
majority would most likely pay to
watch our film so this assures us
that the film will be successful.
10. • The mystery elements
• The mystery
• The buried alive bit
• Her being framed for being a grave
digger
• The characters
• The mystery
• Spirits of the dead returning and being
angry
• Everything
• Kendall
• Being wrongly arrested, wanting to know is
she gets let off
• Misunderstanding of Kendall’s intentions.
• Sounds like there will be a lot of plots twists
and stuff
Q9. Which elements within the synopsis
makes you want to watch the film?
11. • The fact it’s a horror
• No deaths
• None
• It’s a horror film and a bit unrealistic
• Not realistic
• The fact she is framed as a 'grave
digger' doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather
Kendall get framed as a murderer after
going crazy- it would contribute more
to the horror genre. Spirits of the dead
returning and being angry
• The clichés of spirits not being at rest,
disturbing graves etc.
• nothing
• spirits
• She needs a better name like Sam?
• Misunderstanding of Kendall’s intentions
• Summoning of spirits
• Just not a fan of these sorts of films
Q9. Which elements within the synopsis
makes you want to avoid the film?
12. Conclusion
From the research that we conducted we could clearly see that our synopsis was
suitable for our target audience because of the responses we got in regards to
content and characters. Even though our audience that we pitched our questions to
weren’t all horror fans, they still would pay to see the film which is a good sign on
the success of our creation. Although the audience did pick out some flaws, that was
personal preferences and nothing in the plot was shown to be dominantly disliked.
Even though we got some silly answers from people who did not take it serious we
still got a good selection of answers from numerous age range’s and genders which
helps us secure our target audience as well as touching out to our secondary.
