Working Title:
Urgent.
Audience:
My audience is Teenagers. So around 15 years to 24 years. The film is made so that they
understand what’s going on, as there is no dialogue or a narrator. Its not really aimed at a set
gender, as I am going to do a comedy, finding something amusing isn’t based on your gender its
just your preference to a certain kind/s of comedy. As far as social status goes, it wouldn’t really
matter about their social status, except for owning digital devices to access social media, like
Facebook, instagram and YouTube. My product will appeal to the age group because Teenagers
like comedy films more than other categories, like adults and seniors because in my short film
there will be no inappropriate content as the main part is heavily insinuated and not directly shown.
As my short film isn’t aimed at a specific gender, so my product would not appeal to a specific
gender.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Review your progress throughout the year- what skills and knowledge have you acquired?
How has the subjects you have studied this year informed your choice for this project?
What have you studied and how will it have a direct impact upon your project?
One of the main things we have studied that will directly help me is editing techniques, for example
Jump cuts and fading. In fact even the experience I have gained in using footage and audio will
help me immensely in a direct way in producing my short film. As it would obviously be cantered
around the editing and audio part.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project?
I am going to make a comedy short film about a boy in a class who urgently needs the toilet.
The amusing part is that when he runs to the toilet he does not realise there is cling film/plastic
wrap on the toilet seat, this then backfires on him, literally. Whilst this is happening it cuts to a shot
from outside the toilet cubical and you hear the boy make a sound like “ahhh!!” to show his
annoyance, without words. It would then turn to the mirror and in postproduction would add in the
words “That wasn’t supposed to happen” on the mirror opposite the closed cubical. The short film
is based of insinuating what is going on to the audience, like making them think about what is
going on, however it isn’t hard to grasp as it is aimed at under people between 10-18 years old. As
I say it isn’t meant to be complex, it’s just a comedy short film that some people will hopefully find
amusing and I imagine some people will not.
The research that I need to conduct to help me will be; Asking people through a survey what part
of comedy they prefer, like the build up, the reaction etc. Also, another way I will research is by
watching short films in comedy or even other genre to see what worked for them, and hopefully
replicate methods from different short films in mine.
Production Techniques (approx. 150 words)
What specialist techniques do you need to consider? (e.g. green screen, Steadicam, post-
production, sound, etc.)
Does this require any specialist equipment/training/demos?
There is a slight possibility that I will be using green screen. Something like a green screen would
definitely require specialist equipment as that’s what it is, it would require specialist training and a
demonstration as it is expansive equipment. There will hopefully be some postproduction
techniques used for my short film, for example I will hopefully use an editing technique, like Jump
cuts and fading.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation and your final
self-reflection, analysing your work and its outcomes.
One way I pan to evaluate my work is by using my blog on blogger to document my progress week
by week, this will allow my to make a more in-depth evaluation of my work. At the end of this
rotation I will do some self-reflection and evaluate the work from the perspective of finishing the
short film.
