Working Title:
Time to Time
Audience:
Age- 16-19-Despite my age group being aimed at 16-19 year olds, some people may be squeamish
to violence or explicit content such as curse words, despite this however I picked this age group due to
the confusing concept of the film that little children would struggle to understand.
Gender- Male:60% Female:40%- My target audience is primarily male as it was the male
participants in the survey who reacted positively to the concept of time travel and the reason they
provided was that it is an interesting concept when done right.
Favoured genres: comedy and action/thriller- these two genres are the most favoured by the teenage
generation, whether they are more engaging or interesting but due to this, it is the reason that I will likely
include one of the two genres, but probably not both because movies that try to combine both of the
genres end up getting very mixed reviews.
Least favourite genre: horror- whether too visceral or too tired or too boring my target audience
don’t enjoy this genre, therefore I feel that making a horror film would repulse my target audience rather
than attract them.
NRS grade: anywhere typically on the scale- This doesn't matter as much because as long as the
audience has a way of viewing movies (most do) so unless perhaps it's the lowest social grade this area
isn't as relevant.
Psychographic: achiever- I don't believe any of psychographics typically described my target
audience however I believe that this one suits the description best because the main character in the short
film acquires a unique power that gives a semblance of control over time itself, achievers often like to set
and succeed in goals for themselves, they like to be in control a lot and as a result I believe the use of a
time machine is something that would appeal to them.
Sexuality: doesn't matter- I say this doesn't matter because in my work I don't intend for it to be
aimed at anyone of a specific sexuality as media should be suitable to be used and viewed by anyone and
so I aim to make short film that won't offend anyone.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
To generalise my work throughout the year we have focused on stock motion animation,
Photoshop editing and video editing through Premiere Pro, this has taught me the basic skills that I
need in order to perform basic tasks on these programs however I feel that I need to further
enhance my skills to create high quality level work to the standard that I would like it to be. I do
however believe I am better at using Premiere Pro than the other software that I use, I am
competent at using recording software, on the other hand past projects including this one have
required performing of some kind, those are skills that I still do not have and audio recording
hardware is still something that I require practice with. I originally came with the concept for this
project because in order to make it successful it requires the use of greenscreen there's no other
way around it and as a result this project will teach me how to use special effects in my work which
may or may not be a vital part of my final project, but either way it's useful to have the skills
necessary to operate it.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
My project revolves around a college student typing up a short story for an English essay, that
involves time travel, as they write up different parts to the film time starts to alter around them,
realising what is happening he/she starts to abuse the power they have discovered by typing in
different dates on the time machine and travelling to different dates throughout history in order to
get true inspiration for their story, however as soon as they reach the stone age possible
Neanderthals show up, frightened they try to return to the present but the laptop has run out of
power, the Neanderthals reach them but are shocked by their clothing, phone and other tech,
thinking it is evil they then proceed to chase the protagonist until the laptop flickers to life (movie
logic) and the protagonist is able to return to the present in the nick of time, after returning to the
present they throw the laptop away.

Production Techniques (approx. 150 words)
For my idea to work right it going to require the use of a green screen special effects to emulate
the historic settings that the story will require, it will also use canted angle shots and possibly a
steady cam to ensure that my shots are consistently still and focused throughout the duration of
the film, this will become exceptionally important if at any point in the film I decide to use canted
angles for instance, they are very hard to hold steady throughout the entire shot, this can become
especially obvious with zoom in shots, as the increased magnification can make it a lot easier to
pick up any unsteadiness, given how close up shots of people's faces will likely be a crucial part of
my film it becomes quickly apparent a steady cam will likely be necessary. I will in most cases
throughout my film just be using standard lighting throughout the film as it won't be set in darkness
or confined spaces so specific lighting wouldn't be needed in any of the scenes, as far as audio
goes it will remain diegetic throughout most of the film, however it would be good to have a non
diegetic ambient soundtrack throughout the beginning of the film, sound effects will also have to be
used however a lot won't be naturally recorded and instead probably created online using audio
generating software, and the music will also change during scenes of tension, for instance any
action or chase scenes that occur throughout the film will not use the same music as the rest of the
project.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I will have to consistently check my on-going evaluation and my final production reflection at the
end of the project, compare what I was saying in both of them and conclude whether or not I was
including everything that I had hoped for and whether or the standards of my work has dropped or
risen, after which I should talk about what parts of my plan I stuck to and what parts of it I ditched,
using my production reflection I will have to compare whether or not I think it is an improvement or
if I should have stuck to my original plan. To make sure I maintain a standard in my work it would
be a good idea to set a criteria before beginning production to make all the way through my
standards don't drop.
