Working Title:
Stop Motion
Audience:
My audience is a young male audience. From my primary research I have noticed that
some, if not the majority of younger males, (16-24) have said that films to do with time
travel are more entertaining than any other genre. Most maleswould prefer to watch an
action/adventure/fantasy film rather than any other genre. I believe my film would appeal to
younger males of this age group because it is a fantasy/adventure.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept for my project is about a man who can freeze time using a watch. The plot is
that he finds a watch in he middle of nowhere that turns out to be a watch that can freeze
time. The man gets greedy with the watch and his own greed becomes his downfall. The
man then wakes up after thinking that him finding the watch was a dream but the camera
pans to his bedside table and on the table there is the exact same watch.
I have done research on a film that is about a man who can freeze time when he presses a
button on a camera. The reviews said that the plot didn’t make sense and that the ending
was disappointing. I am not sure if my ending will be disappointing, as some people like to
have a cliffhanger so they can make the ending up for themselves. I think my plot is fairly
developed as well so I won’t have problems with people not understanding what’s
happening.
Production Techniques (approx. 150 words)
For my film, I will definitely need to use postproduction techniques, as it is impossible to
freeze time. I will use Adobe Premiere to edit the clips and find a way to make it look like
I’ve frozen time. To achieve this I will probably follow a tutorial on YouTube, as I am not
fully knowledgeable in Adobe Premiere. If I find out that it is not possible to “freeze time”
within Adobe Premiere, I could maybe use another program such as Adobe After Effects. I
think using a tripod for the camera is mandatory for the majority of the clips apart from if
someone is running or there is action.
I do not think I will be using any other specialist techniques as I am trying to make my film
as real as possible with the exception of the magic watch. To create this realism, I do not
want to use specialist techniques such as green screen as this may ruin the authenticity.
I will keep my special effects to a minimal. For example, when the character uses the watch,
there might a sound effect and some smoke may come out of the watch but I do not want to
add anything to extravagant as this may ruin any existing realism. Having special effects
may make the film more exciting, but I don’t want to over use them.
I will keep the props to a minimal asthe watch is a very important and vital part to the story
so if I implement any other props, then the viewer may get confused. I think that keeping
props to a minimum may be very effective because then the viewer will be engaged on the
watch. However, minimal props may mean the story could be a bit boring.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
My evaluation will consist of things that I have done well within the film and things that I
haven’t done so well in. For example, if the story goes to plan and it makes sense then I will
definitely identify this in my evaluation as putting the story together could be the toughest
part of this project. Something I think that may go wrong is the quality of the acting. This
may contrast heavily with the desired authenticity but it something that will be worked on. I
will also state thing that need to be improved on in my evaluation.
