2. Fonts
For this Experiment I set out to get back into the creation of fonts. These can feel different from the overall
creation of pixel illustrations and animations. As fonts are a medium that already exists, just that variants of the
already established concept are created. I knew that the font I had used in my previous FMP wasn’t really going
to fit the concept of the game. As the game is set around 44 BC, the end of Caesars life. I thought that a more
roman inspired font would work better. To get this right I needed a ratio that would definitely work well. I used
my old ratio in the first 3 attempts, but the final one (largest) was going to use a mixture of two ratios. I did this
because the font I used for my inspiration was only higher case, so I needed a way to show the actual higher
case letters. This experiment has set up which font I will use and how I will use it for the production. This will
serve me a lot for the short intro animation.
3. Insignia
This experiment was to see if I could create a likeness from an existing inspiration. I think I somewhat did a good
job, as I will be using this method for production. Some people can find it hard to just come up with ideas and
designs off the top of their head, I found that using existing inspirations helps to counter this. The first image is
of the existing inspiration, the next is my experiment. I feel that this experiment has shown me of where some of
my strengths lie, So I’d say it was worthwhile. As my doubt of my ability is an issue that could potentially
challenge his project and its production. I tried creating a few different symbols for the insignia, but I knew tat
what I created would likely directly be used in production, and it would have been wasted time, as I would have
wanted to spend it actually experimenting.
4. Insignia
This was an experiment I had thought about doing, but I knew most roman shields used curves and circular
designs. This would have been quite difficult for me, as its not one of my practical skills. I had left that experiment
idea to rest, but then I found myself with half an hour left and nothing much to do. I didn’t want to rush anything,
but then I turned back to this. My experiment is the third image and I felt like I did an alright job of it. You can
see the existing inspiration as the second image. I did run out of time, but I am glad I attempted this experiment.
This was again to see how well I could recreate/reform an existing inspiration into my own creation.
