2. In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms of conventions
for real media products
My media product shows conventions seen in many other films, primarily of the horror
genre. It contains some quick cuts, and the soundtrack adds to the tension. My project
also covers quite a few of the main horror aspects such as the ghosts etc. in the movie
I leave the viewer in suspense due to the fact they don’t know what the demons face
looks like or why these two boys are even in the house in the first place. However, the
actors in my film are quite young, which is quite unconventional, as usually there is
mostly adults in horrors.
3. How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
The main group shown in my film project is lower class boys who are looking
for jobs, and they find one eventually which is the paper boys. From my
project is could be deducted that males such as these would be caught
up in situations of desperation and would accept any job causing them
to lead to bigger issues. Also the costumes of these actors were shown
to be not posh dressed but casual to show that they are not middle
class or high class people in the short opening of the film, as well as this
stereotypical dressing was not done we did not show that they are poor
through the way they are dressed.
4. What kind of media institution distribute
your media product and why?
As my media product is a low budget low quality production, I cannot see
any studio or distributor getting involved, so I don’t see that my film
would make it into the cinemas. It isn’t a blockbuster. I feel that my film
would more likely be released on public sites such as blogger and
YouTube, or as a general internet release with a series of other similar
small films. I could get into contact with a company, and see if for a
sponsorship my film could also link into a magazine such as Empire to
see if they would give away my film inside
5. Who would be the audience for your
media product?
I believe the best audience for my movie would be teens in the age of 16
to young adults to the age of 21 this is because they are more into films
like this and are more socially desired by this age group and audience
as well as this I think the content of the film would appeal to them more
than others. Above all as I have teens acting in the film other teen
viewers would be more engaged with the film due to the fact they may
be able to relate with the characters additionally considering the
content of the film it will be disliked upon if younger viewers watched
such content and may lead to complaints by parents
6. How did you attract/address your
audience
There are various ways I could attract viewers in my film. The fact that I had
a horror scene straight away in the opening scene can attract the
audience and make them be aware that there is, as well as this I fell
that the films aspects would draw the target audience naturally be
drawn into the film as they be ale to relate to certain characters. I can
also atrect target audiences through advertising campaigns.
7. What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing the
product?
I have leant a lot more than I originally expect about technologies from my
product, I learned about making blogs, and using the website blogger
and all its features. I also have learnt to use editing suits such as movie
maker to there full potential, I have learnt a lot about the power of
camera angles and how they can emphasize the seen as well as
making it look more appealing to the viewer and how important it is to
look into choosing the correct setting for shooting. I did learn a small
about editing photos, as I tried to edit a title, but im still not very good at
using such software.
8. Looking back at your preliminary task, what
d you feel that you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
I feel that I have learnt lot in the time between filming my preliminary and
my final film, I have learnt about the importance of camera angles and
choosing a location which is best for my situation. Also, I made my
preliminary project in windows moviemaker, and I can see a large
difference in the spitting capabilities of the 2, and generally in the
splitting capabilities of the 2, and generally the features of pinnacle are
far better. I have also learnt a lot about the general conventions of films,
as I looked at many types of film during my planning, so I had to look
into things like suspense in horror, and fast cuts in action films.
