Working Title:
Wide Awake
Audience:
According to my audience research I can tell that my audience is from around the age of 16 up to
20+, and the horror genre seems to resonate well with the younger audiences so this also makes
sense for my short film. I believe that my short film will be gender neutral as there isn’t a massive
gender split in the audience who enjoy horror movies, this means my film can be gender neutral.
The social status of people who enjoy horror the most is from C1 to E, because their film choice
isn’t as refined as a higher class (A and B). The age group I have picked for my audience relates
to my genre because that age group is predominantly used as actors for these types of movies.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Throughout the year I have improved my skills in Photoshop and I have also learnt how to use
Premiere effectively and I now know how to put simple editing effects into use such as Chroma
Keying, I have also learnt most of the basics of filmmaking and cinematography. This year I have
studied IRN-BRU’s advertising campaign so I have been given an idea on how to advertise in all
media’s such as Moving Image, Print and Advergame, this will have an impact on my video as I
will know how to shoot a convincing video.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept for my video is a scenario where someone is stuck in a loop of waking up and
stopping their alarm, but when their alarm on their phone is stopped the person wakes up again,
the character remembers waking up each time and becoming more confused each time, eventually
not stopping the alarm and waking up and not being stuck in the loop. Then the charcters phone
assistant keys up and says “That wasn’t supposed to happen”. I will research by watching films
and videos that are similar and follow a similar plot or story as my video idea, then I can get an
idea of how those films tell their story of deja vu and reliving the same day. This research will help
me as I will know which techniques will be helpful in telling a story in which the story is constantly
being told over and over again. And I will then know how to make an effective déjà vu film. It will
also show me how to make the same scenes look different and that will be key in this film.
Production Techniques (approx. 150 words)
I will need to use a tripod, I will also probably have to use a selfie stick so I can get a Bird’s Eye
View, I will also be using Adobe Premiere but my knowledge of the software means that I doubt I
will need any more specialist training but I might need some help if I forget how to do some things I
will require some help. I may require some training in using a tripod and a selfie stick to make sure
I can use them as effectively as possible. I may also use some effects from AfterEffects so I may
need some training in Adobe AfterEffects to make sure that I can effectively do the effects and that
they look good. Other than this I may require a demo of the camera to refamiliarise myself with it.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I will evaluate my short film against similar films and I will also get other people in my class to
evaluate my video and ask them to give me a response and how I could improve my short film.
