2. Target Audience
I plan on appealing to a larger male audience, by including a male lead. My age
range will be 16-20, and I will be appealing to this audience by having someone
in-between those ages as the main character. The nationality I want to appeal to
will be UK based, so my main person in my film will be British.
3. Initial ideas
• Base video on how “The New Mutants” used social media to promote its release
through its multiple delays. I will talk about the gifs and short videos it uploaded onto its
twitter and Instagram.
• How all films in general have used social media to promote itself.
• How social media was used by characters and was essential to the plot in the movie
“Spree”. I will talk about how the main character used social media to show his killings.
• How social media is more commonly used in films and tv shows. I could talk about how
it causes the characters to act ridiculously and stupidly.
4. Strengths and Weaknesses of my ideas.
1. The idea of the first might not seem that interesting to other people, however I am well
educated on this topic and I have a lot to say about it. I also think I could get more
people into watching the movie.
2. This idea is more open to discussing other films and how they promote themselves on
social media, however it could take me longer to do and could be more complicated if I
find out that other films promote theme selves differently.
3. The way social media is used in Spree will be interesting to talk about in the film
however it isn’t 100% accurate to real life scenarios.
4. This idea is good but feels a bit basic and not very interesting as the way it’s often
used in films and tv shows is very repetitive.
5. Schedule
Wed-Come in to college on day off. Film introduction in the studio.(Possibly the
majority of it the project as well as it will only be a few minutes long.)
Thurs-Export footage onto iPad. Screen recording social media advertisement for
the film.(Mini trailers, gifs, images, etc.)
Fri-begin editing the video project, use iMovie to do so. Use YouTube to screen
record music for the video.
(Spend weekend and days off editing the rest of the video and have it in before
the deadline.)
6. Shot list
• Long shot of jumping onto a chair in front of a white or green-screened
background.
• Close up shot of my face talking to the camera.
• Screen-captures from the films social media posts.
• Long shot of me walking out of frame at the end of the video.
7. Skills audit
I have a large range of skills when it comes to filming and editing. I can extend
clips, minimise them, drag the audio to overlap other scenes. I am able to adjust
the volume in multiple clips so they all have the same volume. In terms of set and
production design I am good at setting up lighting to brighten up the set clear
enough so the room is well lit.
10. Equipment
I won’t be using too much equipment for my project, but I will need a decent microphone
from the IT department for good sound quality.
I’m not sure which camera I should use. I could use my canon 1300D, which can have
great quality with the right settings. Or I could use my iPhone12pro which comes with a
decent microphone and 4K setting on the camera but has trouble exporting in quality as
good.
For the lighting I will use the lights that are provided in the studio. I will use the lights on
both sides of my face so it’s as clear as possible.
I will edit the film on my iPad using iMovie. I feel it’s the editing software I feel the most
confident with, although I am open to using other softwares if I am encouraged to do so,
but if edit the movie on my iPad I can take it home and do more time on it.
11. Health and safety-Risks
1. When I am filming on set and using the lights they could be potentially damaging to my
eyes if they are too bright.
2. I could trip over one of the wires on the floor that is connected to the lights.
3. I could overheat or dehydrate during filming.
4. I could feel tired from sitting still all day.
5. When I edit my project there is a risk of me spending too much time at my screen to
the point where my eyes could start to hurt.
6. My back could ache from sitting on the chair all day.
12. Health and safety-Solutions
1. I will adjust the lights so they aren’t too bright and don’t do any damage to my eyes.
2. I will move all the wires on the floor to wreath a safe path on and and off the camera so I don’t
trip.
3. I will wear some loose and warm clothing and drink plenty of water so I don’t become
dehydrated.
4. I can get up, walk around or do some exercise for half an hour every two hours to keep myself
awake.
5. I will occasionally look away from my screen and at something else so my eyes can rest for a
bit.
6. I can put a cushion in between my back and the chair rest for comfort.
13. Experiments
For my experiments I created a potential opening video. I
filmed it on my canon 1300D camera and exported it to my
phone through email. I used iMovie to edit the scene and I
used screen record on my iPad to record music I found on
YouTube. I raised the volume of my video and lowered the
volume of the music.
https://youtu.be/9jaClozjcI4
I feel like my experiment was a good
attempt at an intro. I plan on sticking
more or less to the script when I film
the real video.
14. Potential Problems
1. Camera could run out of battery
2. Memory card could be full
3. Tripod could be broken
4. Lights could break
5. iPad could run out of battery when I am in the process of editing
6. iPad could crash and work could be lost
7. iPad could get lost or stolen
8. Camera or microphone could break
15. Potential solutions
1. I can charge up the camera the night before using it and/or bring spare battery.
2. I could clear the memory card of any irrelevant and useless footage.
3. I will ensure the tripod is in good condition before use.
4. I will also ensure the lights are in good condition before use and could potentially bring in
one of my own just to be safe.
5. I will charge up my iPad so it has enough battery as well as bring a charger to maintain the
battery level.
6. /7. I could back up work onto iCloud or another device so my footage still exists.
8. I Can bring a spare camera which will have a decent microphone.
