The document summarizes the results of a questionnaire about music video viewing habits. It found that most people watch music videos on their phone/iPod and online. Respondents said this is because mobile devices allow easy, anytime access to choose what music to watch. When making their own music video, the group will upload it to YouTube so it can be viewed on mobile. The questionnaire also found that camera shots and the setting were the most important technical aspects for music videos. Representations of gender in videos were seen as mostly positive but other factors like age, ethnicity and disability were seen as both positive and negative depending in the video. An effective narrative was also deemed important for a music video to be understandable, realistic, relatable
2. From our results this is the first chart we
had produced. It illustrates the different
platforms the public view music videos on.
As you can identify, most of the individuals
use their phone/ iPod and the internet to
watch music videos on. The reason for this
may be due to the ease of access for these
products, and that they are available at
anytime, therefore individuals are able to
decide what music they watch/ listen to.
Whereas, with the radio, you are not able
to chose which music/ song you can listen
to, as each channel has set times when the
music is played. Phones are a more modern
form of technology, hence the reason the
amount of people listening to radios are
decreasing. In relation to these results, we
are considering to upload our video to the
internet (YouTube), which can be viewed on
mobile devices.

3. The next question that we presented in a pie
chart highlighted the significance of each
technique. When viewing a music video there
are certain features that must be considered.
From our questionnaire we found out that
camera shots were the most important factor
for individuals in a video. This indicates that
when we create our music video, we have to
ensure that shots are unique and different so
that they appeal to the audience. The second
factor that held the most significance was the
setting. This is important due to the fact that
it sets the mood and atmosphere of the scene
making it more realistic, therefore the
audience are able to visualize themselves in
the characters position. When making our
video we will be taking these results into
consideration in order to ensure that our
video achieves success.

4. Every video consists of representations,
which can either be positive or negative,
depending on the message they are trying
to set. Most of the individuals we
questioned believed that gender has been
represented positively in videos, however
it can vary depending on the genre and
type of video. Age, ethnicity and disability
is seen as a factor that consists of both
positive and negative representation. The
reason for why individuals had chose this
is because each video is different in
relation to their genre and theme.
Therefore as ours is a love song, gender
may be represented negatively, as the boy
has broken the girls heart, whereas age
and ethnicity will be seen as a positive
factor due to young love, however
disability is a representation that we are
not including in our video as it is difficult
to portray in a positive/ negative light
according to our genre.

5. It is important for a music video to
have a clear narrative, hence the
reason we asked individuals the
significance of having an effective
narrative. The most common answer
that we found was that the video is
easier to understand and follow when
the narrative is set. The second result
we identified was that, the narrative
enhances the realism of the video,
making it appealing to the audience.
The third finding represented the fact
that a narrative can be used for the
audience to relate to the artist and
their experiences in life, and the last
result with the least amount of votes,
illustrated that a narrative sends a
clear message to the viewers. All of
these factors are significant to include
in a music video, therefore they all
need to be taken into consideration to
ensure that our video is targeted to our
specific audience.
