2. 15-19 YEAR
OLD MEN
AND WOMEN
IN ORDER TO ATTRACT THIS GROUP
OF PEOPLE WE CHOSE TO MARKET
OUR FILM USING SOCIAL MEDIA. SO
TO DO THIS WE CREATED A
FACEBOOK PAGE AS WELL AS A
TWITTER PAGE. WE CHOSE THIS
FORM OF MARKETING BECAUSE,
BOTH FACEBOOK AND TWITTER ARE
EXTREMELY POPULAR AND
INFLUENTIAL TO THE EVERYDAY
LIVES OF THIS SECTION OF OUR
AUDIENCE.
3. SOCIAL MEDIA
PLATFORMS ARE FREE
AND ACCESSIBLE FOR
A WIDE RANGE OF
DIFFERENT PEOPLE.
THEY ARE ESPECIALLY
EFFECTIVE AT
TARGETING OUR CORE
AUDIENCE OF
TEENAGERS.
4. WHAT IS APPEALING
ABOUT OUR FILM?
Props: The novelty games we use throughout our film will
attract our target audience because they add an aspect of
the past and so will make the audience remember their
youth and how they spent their time before the
development of technology, such as smart phone and
computers.
Characters: The characters that feature in our film will
appeal to our target audience because they are
teenagers as well and so our audience can relate and
empathise with them. Not only that but the characters in
our film are very similar to the characters that feature in
similar, well known, films.
5. THE BREAKFAST
CLUB
MALE CHARACTERS THAT ARE SIMILAR TO OURS.
THE BREAKFAST CLUB IS ONE OF THE FILMS WHICH WE
FELT WAS SIMILAR TO OURS AND SO WE CAN FIND MANY
PARALLELS BETWEEN OUR CHARACTERS AND THEIRS.
Both our male characters and
the male leads in The Breakfast
Club are very visually similar.
Not only that but both of our
male leads and the men in The
Breakfast Club have very
similar representations.
On the left, John Bender is
presented as being the “rebel”
and an “outcast” and this very
similar to how our male lead is
presented throughout our film.
It is because of these parallels
with the Breakfast Club that our
target audience will be able to
relate to our film.
6. THE BREAKFAST CLUB
FEMALE CHARACTERS THAT ARE SIMILAR TO
OURS
The female leads in our
film also resemble the
women in The Breakfast
Club because:
On the left, both women
are classed as “popular”
and have a “princess”
reputation, and on the
right both women are
classed as being “geeky”
and “outcasts”. Both of
these representations are
relatable to teenage girls
and so this will help attract
our target audience.
7. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
In order to fully understand our audience
we created a survey monkey about our film
and distributed this to a group of teens that
had previously watched our film.
Here are
some of
the
sample
questions
that were
featured
in the
survey
monkey:
8. RESULTS
THE RESULTS THAT WE RECEIVED FROM
OUR SURVEY MONKEY CLEARLY SHOW
THAT WE WERE CORRECT IN OUR
ASSUMPTION OF OUR TARGET AUDIENCE.
This graph here tells
us that 77% of the
people that completed
the survey were
women which further
informs us that are
film predominately
targets women as
opposed to men.
9. THIS QUESTION AIDED US IN DETERMINING WHETHER OUR TARGET
AUDIENCE WOULD ENJOY OUR FILM. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT:
NEARLY 90% OF THE PEOPLE WE SURVEYED ENJOYED OUR FILM
OPENING AND THAT JUST OVER 10% OF OUR SURVEY POPULATION
SAID THAT THEY ‘SORT OF’ ENJOYED OUR OPENING, WHICH SUGGESTS
TO US THAT THEY WOULD NOT COMPLETELY RULE OUT WATCHING IT
BUT WE MAY HAVE TO CHANGE ELEMENTS OF IT TO APPEAL TO ALL.
10. We asked in our survey for our
audience to rate our film opening out of
a possible 10 marks. This was to help
us see whether we were successful in
pleasing our primary audience. The
highest mark we received was a 10 out
of 10 but this came from just over 20%
of the audience we asked. The majority
of people we asked gave our film 8
marks out of a possible 10 which we
believe to be a very positive response.
11. We also asked people to
honestly say whether they
would watch the rest of our
film 'Connect Four' after
having watched the opening
scene. The feedback
we received was that over
88% of people said that they
would want to continue
watching the rest of our film
after it is released. There
was only a small minority of
under 12% that said they
would maybe watch the rest
of our film.
12. Out of all of the people we
asked to complete our
survey, only 10% of these
were classed as out of the
age of our primary
target audience.
Therefore, the other 90%
of people who completed
our survey were in our
primary target audience
age of 15-19 years old.
We asked for their ages to
help us further determine
our primary audience and
their ages, as well as their
likes and dislikes in
relation to our film
opening.
