2. Our results from question 1 showed ‘Beach’ to be the most popular location for us to film however we decided
to go against our audience filming at this location and opt for the second most popular answer of ‘The City’.
The reason for this is because we don’t feel that using the beach as our main location is suitable for the feel of
the video and doesn’t set the correct atmosphere.
We liked the second most popular answer of using the city as our main filming location and thought that this
would also be beneficial to us because it would further strengthen the representations of the music video. In
addition as a group, we also felt that this would most appeal to our target demographic of 16-19 year olds. The
reason we are choosing to film in the city is because this is a place where these issues may not be addressed in
the overwhelming population.
3. From our feedback of question 2 we agreed with the most popular result of using a male as our main character.
We feel as though men are not prone to showing their problems and emotions so we wanted to create a video
that highlights the issues males face as well as females. The reason for this is that we feel that metal health of
men is under represented through the mainstream media and we wanted to pick up upon this social issue.
4. We agree with the response from question 3 as we feel that it is very important for our audience to be able to
connect with and relate to the artist. To do this, we intend to portay our artist as a modest, genuine and down to
earth person in order for the audience to see him as being like themselves and therefore more relatable. We will
show this through the use of mise-en-scene e.g. clothes and also the presentation of the digipak and poster.
5. We again agree with the response from this question. This is because our music video addresses sensitive topics
that can often be overlooked or deemed a ‘phase’ in society and therefore we feel that creating the correct
atmosphere and setting an appropriate tone is very important in order to make the video look professional and
of the highest quality. Taking care with our technique in these important areas would also help ensure that the
narrative flows and is easily understandable by our audience.
6. We were happy with the response from the question because we had previously discussed that if we were to use
this song, it contains a lot of possibilities for a high quality piece. With this we knew that we would be better
equipped to develop an engaging narrative for our audience that is coherent and is relevant to the song lyrics
and music.
7. To give us the opportunity to make our video engaging a video that stands out, we decided to add a stylised camera
work question to our audience survey because it is an element of a production that can often be overlooked by an
audience because of it’s subtle nature.
Our feedback showed that the majority of our audience was in favour of stylised camera work and this was positive
because it gives us more options for when we begin filming and a better opportunity to make our video stand out.
However some of our target audience did mention that they do not like to see too much stylised camera work so
we will ensure that we can incorporate this feedback to better appeal to the different preferences of our audience
members.
8. We were happy with the results from this question because we wanted to show a strong and meaningful
message and the best way to do this is through having a narrative.
We also agree with the response about the visuals because we will be using different shots to show
different emotions and develop the character’s personalities and individual stories.
9. We will be using full colour in our video but it will be dull and de-saturated. The reason we have chosen not to use any
black and white effects because we feel that this will make the video over the top and we don’t want to distract the
audience from the message of the story.
10. We agree with the response from this question, like with question 9 It’s very important for us to have a strong narrative
and give a meaningful social message. The topics used involved in our music video are sensitive subjects in today’s society
so we have decided not to use humor in the video as it would take away from the atmosphere and the story we are trying
to portray.
Making our video a response to the audience’s request for a story driven music video is important because this enables
us to focus on and better develop the narrative as we now know that it is something that our audience find significant
and want us to pay attention to detail to, which we will make sure that we do by developing and refining our ideas in the
planning stages of our project.
11. We found that the most popular answer for this video was very interesting as we felt that it was something
that we could build on because we knew that we wanted our characters to develop but we had not thought
about whether everything would come full circle at the end or whether we would prefer to leave an ending
that is left to an audience member’s interpretation.
Furthermore, because of the topics of our music video, the second most popular answer of the character/s
gaining a good outcome would definitely be something to consider when we decide on the final ideas for the
narrative because we could turn something negative into something positive and show a type of progression
that may not be shown enough or celebrated in society.
12. We will not be using a photo montage for album artwork but we will be using our own photography featuring our artist.
We will also be using the idea of including the lyrics within our album artwork as we know that this is a common feature
used by artists currently in the industry. Both our album artwork, our poster and our video will all tie in together giving an
overall image and style for the song and video.
13. We agree with this response that the artist should be featured on the poster, this is because we want our audience to be
able to relate with the artist and his brand image. With the different results from our survey we will ensure that we
incorporate our target demographics ideas and thoughts and also create synergy across the products as this is a
conventional element of digipak’s and posters.
14. We didn't totally agree with the most popular response from this question as we feel that using vibrant colours
doesn't fit with the atmosphere and story of our music video. We liked the idea of using a limited colour selection
because it keeps it simple linking with our representation of our artist.
