The document discusses research the author conducted on their target audience for a music video project. They presented initial ideas to the audience and received feedback both in-person and via online surveys. The feedback showed that the audience felt the video suited the intended genre and they could follow the narrative. It also confirmed that the video's style was original and coherent. This feedback helped the author understand how the audience reacted emotionally to the video and what minor errors could be improved.
2. Audience Research

On which it can be seen our initial ideas about our target
audience. We felt that to understand our audience and
appeal to them and their needs we needed to do some
extensive research about them and their likes and dislikes so
as to create a video that fits for them.
3. Audience Feedback

our initial ideas and our Pitch to them;

We felt that by presenting our findings in such a way this
allowed us to show pictures as well as videos, therefore
giving a broader overview of our target audience. This also
helped us to research the audience in a more detailed way.
4. Audience Feedback Video
Here is the link to our audience feedback on YouTube;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgMH-TL_xU8&feature=youtu.
We asked them a selection of questions such as
Do you feel the music video suits our genre?
Could you follow the narrative?
Do the performance elements work?
Does it remind you of any other artists?
Do you think it appeals to our target audience?
Is there anything that doesn't work?
5. Audience Reaction
These are some of the questions both my group and myself individually asked
our target audience. By asking these we hoped to achieve a sense of
understanding about what they as an audience want in a music video and also
how we could improve the video. The following questions I asked on my
Facebook page via a poll device.
Does the video remind you of others?
3 votes no, this could a sign that the music video is original.
If you could change one thing, what would it be?
No answers so I can gather that there isn't anything the audience wants to
change or feels should be changed.
Can you tell the print products are connected/related?
2 votes yes, from this I can conclude that I succeeded in coherency and brand
image through the use of colour, font ect.
6. Audience Reaction
These questions were again asked on my Facebook page for my coursework. This
way of gathering audience feedback proved to be most useful.
How do you feel after watching the video?
No answer-this could be a sign that the audience can't describe with they feel.
However in the focus group for our audience feedback after finishing our music
video, the group expressed feelings of sadness and depression.
Does the narrative make sense?
3 votes yes, one comment, means we managed to create a music video that
showed the audience the story.
What genre of music does the video reflect?
2 votes alternative, I vote indie, after I posted this I realised that indie is a sub
genre of alternative that has recently become more popular.
8. Feedback from our target audience about our music video
Evidence such as the audience feedback
given on my Facebook page as shown
by the example on this slide and the
previous one.
By this I can tell that the audience can
tell that the print products are
connected as well this they also said
that the video doesn't remind them for
any other video they've come across.
9. Audience Reaction and my thoughts...
+ How have they been effected by the text? In expected ways, or unexpected ways?
They have been effected by the text in an expected way as they said they
feel sad and empathize with the characters we showed in our video. I was
surprised to find this out, however I realise that this means we
accomplished to make a video that connects with the audience, something
we weren't expecting to achieve.
To alter my work as a result of this feedback I feel that we as a group, and
myself as an individual could edit the music video again so we could solve
problems with consistency errors such as the colour of the text and
costume errors or faults.
10. From this feedback I have learnt that we did appeal to our target audience
from all of the positive feedback we received I believe the music video had
a direct effect on our audience as they said they were effected emotionally
by the video. It also seems to me that my target audience would be
technophiles as they can access media through so many forms of
technology and have the knowledge of how to use it.
We had quantitative feedback as well as qualitative feedback, although we
could have done with more variation to their comments so we knew what
needed improving if we were to take it a step further. They were helpful as
with this feedback we were able to change any little faults that we still had
with our video such as a time of an edit one audience member noticed
was out of sink.
11. End notes...
The Long Tail theory applies to our target audience as they are those interested in
alternative music. They play an important part in this theory as niche/genre
artists and bands are becoming more widely known, generating more products.
They are not perhaps as popular as mainstream products however they are
increasing in number through the help of those such as my target audience.
Technological determinism doesn't always play a part in their lives as they have
many ways of getting music however it does effect them. They still need some
technology to get access to most music, but they can still go to concerts ect to
avoid this. The genre of music that I have been investigating and researching
also dabbles in push media and pull media. My target audience can listen to
music given to them via radio, TV ect. They can also request it (pull media) in
forms such as radio requests and recorded content. As well as this peer 2 peer
comes into this too. Through this people, particular my target audience can
share files such as music.
