3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
1. 3. What have you learned
from your audience
feedback?
2. How did I gather my audience feedback?
To collect my audience feedback I used 2 different ways to do this. I have made a
questionnaire and got audiences to make comments on my different products. We
also looked at interviewing our target audience and using google forms to open
our questionnaire up to a wider audience. On the next page is photos of the the
questionnaires i have conducted. The feedback I have received effected the type
of products i have created, for example, most of my audiences have agreed that
they preferred narrative style videos as they are more engaging, I tested this as I
sat a test group in front of two different styles of videos and they preferred the
narrative style one.

4. Feedback from audiences
Doing a questionnaire has helped me understand the target audience we should focus on. Asking questions such as, what
is your age? and how often do you watch music video has widen my understanding of what type of people watch music
videos. Younger people invest more time on social networking sites where music videos are shared. Also a lot of people
idolise artists and therefore watch their music videos. Also, when interviewing people and asking gender we discovered that
women invested a lot of time in watching music video. This is due to the craze and the fandom of bands and artists. Also, a
lot of the males preferred thought provoking videos. They said they find them more interesting as it follows meaning.
I also have conducted an interview which gave me a sense of what general audiences enjoy as there was a wider range of
ages when conducting this interview. They all favoured the narrative music video as it was engaging and 'gave meaning to
the song.' They all agreed that the artist isn't necessary which surprised me because most people enjoy artists music
videos.Only one of the audience said they would invest in watching indie music videos which shows the 'indie' genre is a
smaller genre and a more focused genre to its preferred audiences. They criticised the performance video saying it was
boring as they didn't connect with the artist. Even the person who liked Kodaline said they didn't enjoy watching the artist as
it was more about the music and how it sounds then the star power of the artist. This is stereotypical for an indie video as it
attracts their audience mainly on the music they sell and their unique sound. They didn't think the budget made a difference
because they believed it was about how entertaining the video was and not about how much money they have spent on it .
5. Feedback from Music Video
As I was editing my music video I asked my peers to give me feedback on what
could change or be refined in the video.
Positives:
- Many people enjoyed the eye opening at the beginning
and the end of the video as it gave a clear start and
finish to the video and made the audience feel like they
are entering into an intimate shot video.
- They also liked the change of locations which has
worked as it has engaged our audience in the our
video keeping with the pace of the song.
- They believed it matched the genre of the song which
was my main worry as they isn't a clear artist in the
video.
- Actors which we have cast as they fit the genre and
narrative of the song.
Negatives:
- One person saw a problem with split screen shot as
we having issues with the middle line in the split
screen moving and have looked up the problem on
adobe's website, however we changed this part of the
video for the final edit as it affect the overall
professional presentation of the video. However, this
person understood that the video was well planned
as it lines up with our animatic.
- The argument is slow and doesn't make sense as
they hug at the end of the long shot. We spent a lot
of time changing this section of the video as we
weren’t happy with the ending of the tracking follow
shot, we added more jump cuts to the section as it
added to the tension of the argument engaging our
audience, however this is different to how we first
planned the video.
6. What did I learn from receiving feedback on my
video?
Having audience feedback on our music video gave me a good outlook on the
parts that didn’t work as I had seen the video so many times in the editing
progress it was hard to spot the parts that didn’t work. Also having audience
feedback has helped me create a video that will appeal to my niche indie target
audience. I believe by having this feedback it has given me the opportunity to
match the video as close to the genre as possible as most inide music video are
narrative based without lip syncing and don’t include the artist as they want to
convey a message, we have portrayed young love in our video (showing the ups
and downs of the a general relationship).
