Strengths of my research
• One strength of my research is I feel I had a
good Varity of different types of magazine
so I could contrast and compare.
• Another strength of my research was that I
had a clear understanding of what each
magazine use on their front covers and
double page spread.
• A final strength of my research was the
magazines I chose to research as they
showed off clearly what are put into
magazine to attract and audience.
How did my research help my product
My research helped my product by helping me
understand what needs to be on my magazines
front cover such as a flashy slogan and a bright
color scheme and what needs to be in my
double page spread.
Weakness of my research
• One weakness of my research is that I only
looked at three types of magazine when it
would have been better to look at more
types for extra reference material.
• Another weakness of my research was that I
only said I use a smaller amount of the
similarity I found within each magazine.
What I could have improved
What I could have done to improved my
research would be to look at two more types
of magazines and see what their front covers
and double pages spread contain and the way
this may have effected my product would be
that maybe the front cover would look
different or the double page spread may have
been set out differently.
3. Planning
Strength of my initial plans
• One of the strengths of my initial planning was
the scheduling I had done as it was set out quite
clearly and easy to understand what I planed on
doing at what specific point during production.
• Another strength of my initial plans were my
mind maps as each idea is set out clear and easy
to understand and developed quite naturally.
• A final strength of my initial plans was the mood
board which gives a clear sense of how my
magazine will turn out from the art style to what
the theme of the magazine would be.
How my planning helped my product
The way my planning helped my product as it helped
me decide what style my magazine for example the
front covers art style being anime inspired and its
theme would be for example the magazine being a
game magazine.
Weaknesses of my initial plans
• One of the weaknesses of my initial plans was
that I didn’t have enough ideas on the first mind
map.
• Another weakness of my initial plans was the
bibliography as on reflection didn’t make the best
reference materials.
How I could have improved the initial plans
An improvement I could make to my initial plans
would have been to explore more ideas on the mind
map page and the way this would have effected my
product that the theme of the magazine may have
been different.
4. Time Management
• I believe I have managed my time well with this project as I was able to get
every part of the project done in time and the product itself in time as
well as I am quite happy with how the products turned out as any work I
wasn’t able to get done at college I finished at home.
• What I would have done if it had more time would be to make more
double page spreads to really make my project feel more like a real
magazine.
5. Technical Qualities
Similarity's
• One similarity my product and the
existing product has is that both cover art
are that of front covers for games.
• Another similarity my product and the
existing product has is that it has extra
bits of information scattered about
around the front cover.
• A third similarity my product and the
existing one has the title of the magazine
at the top in big bold letters.
• A fourth similarity between my product
and the existing one is that the double
page spreads have images that relate to
the game the double page is covering.
Differences
• One difference between m
product and the existing one is
that the arts style for the existing
product front cover is realistic
whilst mine is anime inspired.
• Another difference between my
product and the existing one is
that my front cover has the bar
code whilst the existing one
doesn’t.
• A third difference between my
product and the existing one is
that the existing products double
page spread talks mostly about
the game it covers whilst mine
also has an interview with the
game's director .
• A fourth difference between my
product and the existing one is
that the existing products front
cover has the title for the game on
it whilst mine doesn’t.
• A final difference between my
product and the existing one is
that my double page spread
contains a background image
whilst the existing one dosent.
6. Aesthetic Qualities
In my honest opinion I feel my work looks quite good as I feel the visuals of the front cover really
help my work stand out among other gaming magazines with the bright colors and the stylized
fonts which gives the magazine its own identity, the same going for the double page spread with
the additional background image.
Strengths
One strength I feel my product has is that of
the color scheme as feel I used the right
amount of bright colors allowing the magazine
to be eye catching to any potential reader.
Weaknesses
One strength I feel my product has is the
design of the text as I feel that some people
may have a hard time reading it
7. Audience Appeal
The way I have appealed to my target audience which was men was by giving my characters
dynamic poses and serious looks and giving the letter a very technical feel and using the phrase
taking your gaming to the next level tempting said target audience wanting to by my magazine
another way I have appealed to my target audience is by giving my double page spread a very
medieval fantasy feel to it by making the background image a map of the game world and the
text having a very medieval feel to it really appealing to my main audience of men and the
secondary being women.
