Working Title:
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
It will be called ‘Future Film’. I decided to name it this title so that it would
correspond to the existing products within the marketplace. After all I have
to compete with existing and well-established products.
Product’s Purpose:
What is the product’s purpose (entertain/educate etc.) and how will you
achieve this?
My product will be a Superhero Magazine, and the purpose of it will be for
entertainment purposes. I will be discussing in detail upcoming movie
releases as well as what is happening now in the news within the movie
industry. My double page spread will concentrate on a new super-hero and
actor each month, with a variety of colours, fonts and images to make my
magazine appealing to my target audience each month.
In addition to the above, I will be giving one lucky reader the opportunity to
win a product which an image will be displayed on the front cover of my
magazine.
Genre:
What sort of product is it?
My product is a ‘Film Magazine’. Through my research of existing
products, I found them to be male orientated. Therefore, in the design of
my magazine I have made it gender neutral, meaning that it is interesting
and informative to both male and female readers alike.
Content
What is your product about? Discuss what you would put in it (be specific).
Does it have a story? If so, discuss it here
My product will include upcoming film releases, reviews and a chance for an
item to be won. The images will be bold and dramatic for maximum effect.
The font will stand out against the background creating mystery and
suspense thus ensuring that the reader will not be able to put my magazine
down until he/she has read all the magazine.
On the double page spread there will be an image of a scene from the front
cover of my film magazine which will be dramatic and outstanding.

Audience:
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status,
psychographic etc
Why would your project appeal to this person?
The target audience for my product will entertain and inform my audience
from Children/teenagers/adults alike. The magazine will be gender neutral
and social status will not be an issue, as the only prerequisite is that they
will be able to afford to purchase my product.
Psychographics is the method of studying consumers on psychological
characteristics and traits. In the function that I am using it for, it focuses on
the consumer’s emotions and values so that I can produce and market my
product more accurately, as it is incredibly valuable for opinion research,
prediction and broader social research.
All of this will be achieved by appealing to the audiences' personalities in
the following way:
Values – I will ensure that my product has no violence, swearing or
nudity and is therefore suitable for all age ranges and genders.
Opinions, attitudes and beliefs are distinct psychographic categories
because they are strongly correlated. These can predict opinions and
general overviews, meaning that any particular interest in the
marketplace I will need to concentrate on within my publication to
keep my product ground-breaking.
Attitudes – People's attitudes change all the time, so through opinion
research, prediction and broader social research, I can ascertain what
is ‘in’ now and what is ‘out’. This will make the difference between a
successful product and a failing product.
Interests are people’s hobbies, pastimes and what occupies their
time. My product will address these by exploring the fantasy of
Super-Heroes, therefore keeping their interests and curiosity fuelled
whilst reading my magazine.
Lifestyle - my product will be able to fit into the lifestyle of the reader
in their day-to-day lifestyle, as they well be able to read it whilst
travelling to work, on holiday, at home or elsewhere.
My product will appeal to my target audience as I have designed it to be
innovative and ground-breaking, with a fresh new look and ideas. This will
ensure that it is unique and not just another Film Magazine on the shelves of
retailers.

Researchand Planning:
What elements of your research and planning will you use in your final
production?
Where will you use your research and planning in your final production?
The research and planning stages will play a vital role in my final
production. I have already experimented with different colours, fonts and
images during my research and planning stages so that my product remains
unique and fresh to the marketplace. I must compete with existing and
well-respected Film Magazine Companies who are already established. By
previously doing research and planning, I will ensure that my product
stands out from what is on the ‘shelves’ at the present time. This gives the
reader an alternative to their normal publication which they purchase.
I used the ‘Mood Board’ and’ Mind-Map' in my research and planning for my
final production. These gave me the tools that I needed for what to include
and what to omit. In addition to this, I did ‘Survey Monkey’ Questionnaires
to gauge the opinion for my potential readers. The feedback that I received
from the participants was excellent, and I have/will make the appropriate
adjustments for my product now and in the future. These are the people
who will be purchasing my product, so their opinions are vital for my
success of my product.
Legal & Ethical Considerations:
Think about any offensive material you will include?
There will be no offensive material in my product. I will adhere to the
Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) guidelines whereby my product will
be legal, decent, honest and truthful.
Will you restrict younger people using/accessing it?
I will ensure that my product is suitable for all ages. There will be no
images or text which will be abusive or insulting or inappropriate. This way
I will be complying with the ASA Regulations.
Will it offend any social groups/religions/ethnicities?
My product will not offend anyone. It will be free from bias in all forms and
be suitable for anyone regardless of their sex, age, race and nationality.
How will you ensure you do not offend anyone?
By having no violence, swearing or nudity in my product and by writing
objectively, I will ensure that I do not offend anyone. In addition to this I

will proofread my product before publication to ensure that this policy is
followed.
Are you using characters/names/logos of existing products/IPs?
As my product is a Super-Hero Magazine, I will be using images of actors
and their costumes and logos. I will ensure that I comply with the copyright
status of content rules to comply with the law.
Will your product be sufficiently different from existing products to not get
sued for copyright infringement?
During the research and planning stages I viewed my competitors'
magazines for how they design and produce their products, so that I could
take this information in making my product unique and fresh, which is what
the marketplace desires in a new product.
Existing magazines have their Masthead covered by the actor on the front
cover. I Will have my Masthead fully visible with the image of my topic or
actor clearly visible on the front cover. I will use the same cover template
for all my issues for continuity and for easy recognition of my product to
potential readers/purchasers.
I will choose a subject that may be written by my competitors but to make
my product fresh, I will use different images, logos, fonts and texts to
maintain a fresh a vibrant issue.
My writing style will be different to other magazines.
I will ensure that my winning products are the current DVD’s so that they are
something worth competing for.
The use of taglines, coverlines, central images and header will be unique to
my product.
By ensuring that I always do the above, then I am providing journalism that
is honest, reliable and has integrity.
Every time I will check that am I publishing original content or is it existing
or previously published content. Also ‘what is the source’. This must be
checked every time for authenticity and accuracy every time. Finally, if I am
using content from the internet, I must assume that the content is protected
by copyright, and I would need permission from the owner to use it.
All of the above avoids copyright infringement from established film
magazine companies, or others against me, providing I follow these rules.
