Olivia Waller created experiments for a T-shirt design, CD cover, and magazine article to promote her band. For each experiment, she used Photoshop tools like the magnet tool to cut out elements, the text tool to add labels and details, and the magic wand tool to isolate elements. While the experiments achieved her goals, she plans to refine elements like changing bold colors, adding more band details, and using better fitting photos in her final products. The experiments helped her determine effective layouts and techniques to include like photos of the band and text to identify each product for her target audience.
2. Process
This is my T-shirt experiment for my project. The original
photo I used is under the experiment to show exactly what
I have done and how I changed the photo.
One of the tools I used on my experiment was the text tool
as I have added the bands name at the bottom of my T-
shirt to show the name and grab attention. It helps for the
audience to see straight away who the band is. The font I
have used for my band is girly but easy to read and helps to
show the bands personality.
I used the magnet tool to cut around my band to help
them stand out from the rest of the T-shirt. This is the
main focus of the T-shirt so that is why the rest is simple as
the photo used needs to be the main part. I cut the
background out of this photo with the magnet tool to just
have the girls so that nothing takes the audiences eyes off
the 5 girls.
I also used the magic wand tool to cut out the angel halo
to add to the theme of my band. Adding the angel halo
adds more detail onto my T-shirt giving it more colour and
giving the T-shirt more of a girly theme to help involve the
audience with the personality of the band.
Overall I like how my final experiment turned out as I think
it is simple but effective for the band. It will appeal to my
audience because it is easy for everyone to wear and be
interested by it.
With it being plain and simple it is easy for it to appeal to
my audience and help it all suit them and enjoy the
product.
3. This is my experiment for my CD cover. I have used a range
of tools for the experiment. The photo I used is shown so
you are able to see what techniques I have used and how I
have changed the original photo.
I used the magnet tool again on this as I need to cut out the
background. This is to create the main focus of my CD cover
which is the photo of the band to show who that CD is
made by for the audience to show an interest.
Another tool I used was the text tool to add text to my CD
cover to add the bands name and the name of the album. I
think in my final product I will change the name for the
album as I do not want this experiment as the name.
I have used another angel halo on this experiment and used
the magic wand tool to cut the background out of the halo
to have it on its own. Having the halo on my CD creates a
link with T-shirt giving the band a theme and something for
the audience to notice them by.
I used the shape tool to create the boarder for my cover
and changed the colour to make it look like the structure of
the cover.
Overall I think the finished experiment turned out well, I
would like to change the album name as it isn’t what I want
to call it in the final project and I would like to add more
detail to make it look more effective and realistic.
This will appeal to my audience as it has a girly colour
scheme which will suit my target audience best and
includes a photo of the girls with the angel theme
throughout.
4. This is the experiment for my magazine article.
A tool I used is the bucket tool to fill in the background to
one colour making the magazine look simple and all one
colour, I think for my final product I will change how bold
it is and make it lighter and less bold as I think it can take
away the attention from the rest of the detail which is
more important.
I used the text tool to add text onto the project, this is
the most effective tool I used as it makes it look the most
like a magazine article. I have used the text in different
ways to give different attention e.g. I have made the title
of the magazine a different font and made it bold to grab
attention so it is the first thing you read and are
interested in whereas the font used for the actual text
for the article is simple but there is enough there to grab
attention and makes you want to read it.
I think for my final product I will add more detail about
the band to help the audience be more involved and
help new people be interested.
Also for my final product I will use a photo of the band
that fits with the other half of the page as the photo I
have used is not portrait to fit into the page making it
look less realistic.
Overall I think that it does look like a magazine article
but I think some detail needs to be added to make it look
better and more realistic. It will appeal to my audience
by having a easy to read layout and include photos of the
band showing the audience who the article is about.
5. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include
in your final product?
• On Photoshop I think the best thing that worked for cutting out my photo from the
background was the magnet tool as I think you are able to get the best result from
this technique as it is easy to use and can do it quickly and it looks good.
• I will also use the magic wand tool to get rid of photos too and I think for a simple
image it is the easiest to use and can do it fast to add detail onto the product.
• The text tool is a main element I will use as I include text in all of my products to
add detail and use it to make my products more realistic and how they are
suppose to look.
• Adding photos onto my products of the band is a element I will use as it helps to
show who the band is and what belongs to them.
• The layout of my magazine I am going to use in my final product as I think it makes
it look more like a magazine article as that is the typical layout shown and the
audience are able to see straight away that they are reading a magazine article.
• I also like the layout of my T-shirt and CD cover so I will use the same layout for
them as it looks effective you can see straight away what the products are.
