2. Process
Before I started to make my front cover and double page spread I
decided to edit this picture. I edited this because I knew that I was going
to use this picture , this being because it was the most clear and looked
the most professional. I edited the spots and made the picture more
bright. I edited the spots out of this picture because on the main images
on magazine covers they normally include perfect skin. To edit these
spots out I used both the spot healing brush and the patch tool. These
were so that I could make the skin looked at smooth and normal as
possible. To use these tool I had to select the size of the brush and then
select the are where the spots were. The brush then fills this in to make
it look like it was never there. To use the patch tool you draw round the
specific item and then replace it with the color of something else. This is
useful for editing skin as you can get the exact skin color used and
replace the spots with this. After doing this I then brightened up the
background and the skin. To do brighten the skin and make it look more
smooth firstly selected the brush tool and changed the color to pink or a
skin color. I then changed the opacity down so that it did not look out
the ordinary. This made the skin look brighter and sticks out more. I then
changed the brightness of the picture so that it sticks out more. This is an
important feature of a main image as if it draws the audiences attention
tot the magazine they will most likely buy it. To brighten up the image I
selected the lighting gallery and stretched the selected area so that it
would affect the whole image.

3. Process
• When starting my front cover I firstly created a layout. The layout
included all the conventions of a normal front cover except from the
barcode and the price which was added in later. The layout was quite
simplistic in my opinion however quite effected. This was effective as
of the bold writing and the appealing colour of the text. I chose this
colour because I took several pictures of the model in this case and he
was wearing a green sweatshirt , I felt that this linked in with that. The
reason why I did not include the image at this moment is because I had
several good ones and did not know which one to include. The bold
text used in the masthead clearly shows the audience what the name
of the magazine is. The name fresh came to me as I felt that the name
for this magazine had to be a single word and had to be music related.
The name fresh has a meaning of it either being new or it being highly
approved by someone. The masthead fresh also could suggest to the
audience that you will most likely find new things inside this magazine ,
for example new music. This will intrigue the audience as my target
audience will most likely want to see what new things are inside. The
name itself is also in my opinion effective as my target audience will be
easily able to read it and remember the name. To make this and also
the other text I had to select the text tool and just write what ever I
wanted. I then changed the font to green. The headings I used I
thought long and hard about , this was because I wanted to try and
draw the audiences attention to them. To do this is included an
alliteration and used words like free and exclusive which will both
make the audience want to buy the issue. I then included some smaller
writing below the headings , this was to provide the audience with
more detail about what is inside. This is only visible when you pick up
the magazine.

4. Process
• After completing the layout I then decided to insert a picture. This
was a difficult decision , this was because I only had a certain
amount of pictures. This picture initially seemed to be the best ,
this was in the way that it was the most clear and also looked the
most like a magazine image. A problem I faced when cutting this
image out via the magic want tool was that the edges around him
did not look so clear. I chose to cut him out so I could have this
layout , if I did not cut him out the main image would be in the
middle of the page not the side. After doing this I then was faced
with a problem. This was that I either have main image more
zoomed in , this is shown in the first one. Instead of this I could
have it as shown in the second one down but the image was rough
around the edges. In hindsight I wish I took more photos which
were focused. Overall though I think that the top one looks better,
this is because the image is all together and is not as rough. This
will make my magazine cover look more professional.

5. Process
After completing my front cover I then decided to start on my double
page spread. On my double page spread the plan was to have a very
simplistic plan. This was mainly due to the time limit. This layout was
going to consist of a main image on the left side and some text on the
right side. The main image I imported was the one I edited before. I
chose to include this image as it looked the best. This also used a
medium close up shot which would instantly show the rappers face to
the audience. the image also showed some elements which are
conventions of rap. One convention is wealth. This has been shown by
the rapper having a gold watch and also his jumper being stone island
which is a well known and expensive brand. After importing the picture I
then placed a slanted rectangle above the rapper. This was to tell the
audience who he is. I chose to have a slanting text box simply because I
felt that it looked less plain. I then included a drop shadow behind this ,
this was to make it stand out. This took quite a lot of doing due to myself
being new to indesign , to do this I went on Photoshop and copy and
pasted the shape. After all this I then put a section of text to the side of
the rapper. This is so that the audience get to know what the article is
about without reading it all. I included this section as I thought that it
sounded the most interesting.

6. Process
After completing the first side of the double page spread I started on the other
side. When starting this I was initially the least confident about this side. This
was probably because I did not really know what to write about. The first thing I
did when starting was to start creating an article. This was based on a made up
interview. In this interview I started to write about the rappers music and other
related questions. To do this I started writing the article on Microsoft word. I
chose to do this because then I would know if it made complete sense and also
if things were spelt wrong. After finishing the article I then imported it into in
design. To do this I struggled , this was because there are certain ways of doing
things on that program. After importing it I then started to change font and
colour. I chose this font because personally I felt that this looked quite urban
and rap related. This was because of the scruffy graffiti style. After doing that I
then made the first letters at each new paragraph larger. I did this because
personally I felt that this looked better. I had also seen this in several magazine
double page spreads. When finishing the whole article I then created a
masthead. The masthead was hard to come up with , this was because I did not
know what to put. In the masthead I used the adjective exclusive. This was
because it should make the audience want to read it , this being because they
will want to know what is exclusive to this magazine. I then included some more
information below the masthead. After finishing this side of the double page
spread I felt rather happy , this was because I felt that this included all the
conventions needed for it to look professional.

7. Overall I feel fairly happy about my products. This is because I
feel that they both look quite professional. This is because I
have tried to follow the main conventions of magazines. I also
feel quite happy about my products as I felt that I would not get
them finished within the week I had. In hindsight I would have
defiantly took some more photos , this being because the one
on the cover is quite blurry. I would also make sure they were
focused. One thing I really like about my magazine is the colour
scheme. I like this because I feel that it makes the magazine
look more organised and therefore more professional. One
challenge which I overcome was using the program in design.
This was a challenge to use because I found it hard to even
import an image. I now kind of now how to use it.
